Something To This Goal Thing

Posted: July 1, 2011 at 8:00 am

Why, hello July! Arenโ€™t you a sneaky little monster popping up so suddenly? Would you mind playing nice and not going by super speedily like your cousins January, February, March, April, May, and June? Thanks. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So, July already! I guess that means I need to do a little check-in on those goals I set for myself in June. It was my first time writing out my goals like this, but Iโ€™m glad I did. It helped me remain focused on all of them this past month. Letโ€™s see how my June Goals list played out, shall we?

Personal: A Balanced Life of God, Family, and Personal Passion

IMGP0154

  • To get in the 20 minutes Bible study and prayer time I hoped for each day, I would set a timer for 20 minutes at the start of nap time every day before doing any work. I cannot even describe how positively this affected my days!
  • I continued to make concentrated time with my family. We had lots of fun with bowling, putt-putt, pool time, as well as daily things like reading, snuggling, and playing pretend โ€œpig and duckโ€. <โ€”donโ€™t ask
  • Not only did I look into personal training certifications, but I have my materials in hand to start my personal training certification process!
  • I read my one book - Jillian Michaelsโ€™ Unlimited that I received at Fitbloggin
  • We made our first month on a strict budget work with flying colors! We went over in a couple areas, under in others, but in the end it balanced out to mostly under budget and it kept us on track with our spending.

Health/Fitness: Continue Trusting My Body & Making Healthy Decisions Regularly

IMGP1608 P1140559

  • I stepped out of my comfort zone to prepare at least one new recipe every week, with the exception of vacation. I shared great ones like: Peanut Butter Pancakes, My Favorite Enchiladas, Hawaiian Tofu, and Rainbow White Bean Salad.
  • I obliterated my first 10K race goal. I ran almost 10 minutes faster than my goal!
  • I maintained my running stamina even while on vacation in order to start my half marathon training last month.
  • I did NOT end up reaching my goal of two unassisted pull-ups, but Iโ€™m working my strength back up on those now!
  • I certainly achieved my goal to use healthier coping mechanisms when eating struggles presented themselves. I found balance on vacation and overcame particular eating triggers, for example!
  • I ate lots of fruits and veggies, so I think I can safely say I hit my 6+ servings/day goal mark! Yay for the feeling of health!

Blogging: Have Fun While Developing My Biggest Personal Passion

P1140583

  • I kept things balanced and focused with my blogging. I concentrated blogging time during times that didnโ€™t affect my family.
  • I put effort into a variety of topics (new fitness exercises, the Strengths Out Loud series, fun giveaways, body image talks, and random daily fun). I sure hope you enjoyed it all!
  • I finally put up a recipe page. And even made a t-shirt shop just for you!
  • I connected with all of you on your blogs, as well as via Twitter and Facebook, because the relationships and community keep me going with blogging the most!

Goals = achieved! Maybe there really is something to this whole putting goals on paper screen thing? I know it makes me want to keep up the habit for July! But those will have to wait until later. Itโ€™s time for breakfast!

sunday breakfast

Happy Friday, friends!!! And have a happy, safe Fourth of July for those who wonโ€™t be checking in over the long weekend.

  • Any fun plans for the weekend?
  • Name a goal you achieved last month! I know we all achieved something!

  1. Where in the world did the first six months of this year go? Absolutely ridiculous, I tell you! Great job on your goals this month. This weekend we’re going to our cousin’s cottage in Michigan – I can’t wait!

  2. Kelly says:

I can’t believe it is July 1…this year is flying by!!

  3. Alexandra says:

Way to go on your goals! You should be oober proud ๐Ÿ™‚ I did a post on my accomplished goals today, too–in June I ate new foods, read more, found an apartment, and started working out in the mornings again. This weekend we’re having a big family cookout for the 4th, I’m so excited to get the grill going!

  4. COngrats on hitting your goals!! I kept up with my goal of working out at least 4 days a week, though I continue to feel more and more lethargic every week- darn pregnancy ๐Ÿ˜‰

I’m working on setting some exciting goals for July, too. I lvoe goals, they keep me motivated!

  5. great job on your goals Tina!

  6. It never ceases to amazing me what a difference goal-setting makes. Congrats!

    Have a great 4th! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. Its crazy how fast July snuck up! I love your idea of monthly goals, I make goals but not like that. Its brilliant! I’m going to do this for July. Thanks for the suggestion! You have a lovely family by the way!

  8. we have a years pass to an old fashioned Village with a train that has something going on every day this weekend. We are going to go there and probably the beach at some point, otherwise we’ll just hang out at home. A nice quiet weekend.
I never set an exact goal but I did notice a slight improvement in my running, I ran an 11 min mile an upgrade from the 13 minutes I’ve been doing ๐Ÿ™‚

    • Tina says:

Congrats on the run progress! And that sounds like a great, fun weekend ahead. Love family activities like that. ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. Genie says:

You did so great on your goals! I have been a complete slacker when it comes to setting concrete goals. You’ve inspired me to come up with a few that are concise and attainable.

  10. Last month I made it through my first trimester in one piece! Great job with your goals, Tina. ๐Ÿ™‚

  11. I didn’t make specific goals for last month, but we did well with our budget, I finished my marathon under the time goal I had chosen and I think I’ve done a good job at supporting Jason during his job search.

Tina I think you did really well!

  12. Congrats on your goals Tina! Sounds like things are moving in the right direction for you! I hope you have an incredible weekend with your family!

  13. Kara says:

Great jobs on your goals last month!

I’m sooo excited for it to be July 1st because that means registration just opened for my 50 mile race! I have my paperwork all filled out and ready to mail (so old school!)

    • Tina says:

I mail in for my races too. Then you only have to pay the price of a stamp – not the dang $7 or whatever through active.com Makes sense to me! So excited to read all about this experience. 50 miles is unimaginable to me, but I know you can do it!

  14. This is my first weekend home in a while so I plan on relaxing.

Last month, I successfully ran all my long training runs for the marathon. I met most of my mid week work outs, but definitely need to work on getting more of them in.

    Have a great weekend!!

  15. Felicia (natural and balanced) says:

Great job on achieving your goals! Hope you have a fabulous weekend with your family!

  16. Quite an impressive month! Kudos to you. Heading home to see my family in beautiful northern Michigan–can’t wait!

  17. Great job Tina! I love reading about other’s goals and seeing them achieve them!

This weekend is pretty low key for me. Just a 13 miler on Saturday and then getting my blog in order for two blogging events I have over the next two weeks!

  18. jobo says:

Wow, you did a TON this month Tina! That’s awesome!! I think achieving 8.25 inches off for the first month of the 60 day challenge was a good goal for me to reach ๐Ÿ™‚

  19. Wow! I’m so impressed with the goals that you made and achieved – all in one month. Good for you!

Plans for the weekend: sun and fun…probably more sun. I need to rest up for a busy July at work leading up to my vacation to my hometown, Omaha, in July YAY!

One goal achieved in June: Blogging consistently. Still working on balancing it all within my schedule….

  20. Mrs. Fish says:

You did such a great job with your goals! Yay you! ๐Ÿ™‚ We really don’t have big plans this weekend, and I’m more than okay with that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  21. Brindi says:

I tried avocados and I completely ADDICTED! I cannot stop eating them!

  22. I successfully got rid of my walking boot and am officialy rehab-ing my broken ankle!

  23. I love love love yes love your goal to do 20 minutes of prayer/bible study before you blog. My main goal with blogging is to keep it separate from my family life because if I blog while my kids are awake then my attention is on the computer instead of on my family. Since only 1 of my 3 kids still naps, blogging during nap time is out. So the only time to blog is early in the morning before they wake up BUT I noticed that I have been blogging instead of reading the bible now. I am going to make this my goal too!!

  24. One big goal I achieved is Lifetime status with Weight Watchers!! And for this weekend I got a cabin in the Shenandoah Valley with my boyfriend to celebrate my birthday and the 4th! I’m so excited.

  25. Wow, I’d say you ninja kicked those June goals! Nice job ๐Ÿ™‚

  26. You did SUCH a good job with your (pretty ambitious) goals – and what I think is most impressive is that you didn’t make all of them, which says that you are truly pushing yourself. You must feel amazing.

My goal for June? 3×6 bench press at 115 lbs. Done on the 18th. Fun stuff

  27. We are RELAXING thank goodness! And maybe hitting up the mountains for some hiking!

  28. Whitney says:

Super excited about the shirts! Thank you ma’am!! I love them all! Especially ”who can’t have a body after baby” and well all of them! I will be ordering them ASAP! Great job on your goals! You really keep it all together! Hope you have a fabulous day and weekend! Today baby Holden is 5 months, so I may cry all day. ๐Ÿ™ But I plan to enjoy the weekend with a Braves game tonight and grilling all weekend!! Hope I eat well!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  29. Jessica says:

I am so happy for you, that you achieved so much in only 30 days! I definitely achieved a better image of myself over this past month, as well as starting to run my longest run ever-3 miles!

  30. What great accomplishments! You really do an amazing job connecting with your readers. I think it is something most of us really value and appreciate! Thanks girl!

  31. Sarah says:

Nice job on all of your goals. You had a wonderful June! I think one of the things I accomplished last month was going back home and catching up with old friends. I hadn’t seen them in 2 years! That’s nuts because I grew up with all of them. It was really great to see everyone and has made me feel better about moving along in my life where ever it takes me.

    • Tina says:

I love reconnecting with firends. Isn’t it amazing how fast time can go by between visits with those we care about…but its so easy to just pick back up again?

  32. Cara says:

Great job with the goals!!! And you are right, this year has FLOWN by!
A goal I achieved or began working on (more of a process) last month was to be at peace with myself and a positive role model to the girls on the Italy trip.

Weekend plans, consist of lots of relaxing and firework watching! Have a good one!

  33. Mac says:

I seriously feel like I was just reading your post about June goals yesterday, where did June go?!

  34. I love how the goals you set for yourself are based on your overall well being and cover so many different areas of your life. Great job!

Last month I finished NROL4W stage 1 and reached my goal squat weight of 80lbs. I could barely lift the 45 lb bar at the beginning of May so I feel pretty awesome about that ๐Ÿ™‚

  35. you knocked your goals out of the ballpark.

  36. That 20 minutes sounds like heaven.no pun intended. You appear really tall, mind if i ask how tall you are?

    • Tina says:

      Haha! I’m only 5′ 5″. I don’t think I’ve ever heard I’m tall. Maybe I have good posture. ๐Ÿ™‚

  37. This is awesome Tina, you’re rocking it! Thanks for inspiring me to keep working on my goals ๐Ÿ™‚

  38. I cannot believe how fast this year is going by…it certainly scares me a bit ๐Ÿ™
Amazing job on your goals Tina!

  39. Becca says:

    YAY for meeting goals!! ๐Ÿ˜€

I get to work all day tomorrow, and then Sunday we’re going to my uncle’s house at the lake for family, fun and fireworks. ๐Ÿ™‚ My dad’s helping at a race Sunday morning, so we can’t leave ’til after he’s done with that.

Hope you guys have an awesome Fourth of July weekend!

  40. Yay on your goals!! My goal in June was to do an 11 mile run and I accomplished it with flying colors. yay!!!!

  41. Great job on achieving your goals!! ๐Ÿ™‚

I can’t believe it’s July either. Where does the time go?!?! Wishing you and your family a Fun Filled & Safe Fourth of July holiday!

  42. Happy 4th Tina! Congrats on the great work on your goals! ๐Ÿ™‚

I didn’t set specific June goals, but I have kept up a good running schedule, ran a faster pace than expected at Ragnar Relay, and I finished a great book – slower than intended, but I finished and I’m glad. Bring on July!

  43. Mandy says:

Happy 4th Tina! Love the t-shirts! When I’m not pregnant anymore I will have to get one ๐Ÿ™‚ But right now I don’t think it would fit LOL ๐Ÿ™‚

  44. Ela says:

Congrats on achieving your goals so apparently effortlessly and happily.

I’ve lapsed into being very inexplicit about my goals, so, although I’ve probably achieved several, I can’t say what they are! Good lesson, thank you!

We have a friend’s birthday party on the 3rd and a barbecue on the 4th.

    love
    Ela

  45. cindy says:

Great job on your goals!! Makes me want to write down some July and second half of the year goals.

We have made huge strides on our budget in the last few months. We are one of the few who have gotten out from underneath huge amoints of credit card debt. I started using a site called southern savers to help grocery shopping…we drastically cut our grocery budget without giving up a lot of favorites.

  46. Meg says:

I REFUSE to believe it’s JULY!

Way to rock your goals, beautiful lady ๐Ÿ™‚

  47. Ummm you do not have 2 children! You look amazing and your family is gorgeous!

Very inspired/motivated by all of your goals!! My boyfriend and I set a different goal each month and by the end of the year we’ve accumulated 12 that we try to keep going! (key word= try!)

    Happy 4th weekend!

  48. Easy Reading says:

[…] and highlights, so thatโ€™s where my focus shall lay today. I left off yesterday morning with a recap of my June goals. Since writing my goals out worked so well for me, I figure why not go for it again? I promise to […]

  49. Jill says:

I’m glad you worked on connecting with others! I really enjoy “knowing” you virtually! Great job on your goals! You are truly inspiring!
