Long Time, No See

Posted: July 9, 2011 at 6:00 pm

How is it already Saturday late afternoon? I feel like I was constantly busy today, but can’t even remember what I exactly did. I hate that feeling. I know I grocery shopped. I know I did my long run. I know I played with my precious little ones. And I stopped at the gym to snag a few pictures for an upcoming exercises post. Well – I guess that does all add up to a busy day! But I still want my Saturday back.

Thankfully I had fun plans yesterday so today’s “just-another-day” feeling doesn’t have to bother me too much. I hung out with a good friend who I haven’t seen in way too long. In fact, Em and I haven’t seen each other since our boys were not even a month old!

And now just look at them…

Time goes so fast! Yet even though we somehow managed months without getting together – those dang busy schedules – we picked up like we saw each other just last week. The true mark of a special friendship, if you ask me. We talked and talked…until particular little boys got hungry and sleepy and we wanted to avoid metldowns. So, Em, thanks for a special day! Love you!

My best friend from high school is one of those girls that we can just pick up like we saw each other yesterday, even though we have only gotten to see each other like once a year (twice in a good year) since high school. It’s nice to have one or two of those friends!

  2. I feel like it’s always too long when I see any of my friends. They all live at least 3+ hours away (I have not a SINGLE friend in my town..lame) and so we only see each other 3 times or so a year. With the last wedding coming up and everyone having babies now, I’m sure it won’t get easier. But, it does make me really enjoy the time we do spend together since I know it doesn’t happen often.

  3. Lee says:

Sounds like a fun afternoon with Em and the boys!

I actually just talked to a good friend of mine from high school that I probably haven’t talked to since my wedding a year ago and we just chatted on the phone for like half an hour like no time had gone by.

  4. Em says:

Yes, it had been WAY too long!! But I totally agree, it did feel like no time had passed and we were able to just pick up where we left off! You are one of the nicest people on the face of the earth… thank you so much for a wonderful time yesterday. Hopefully next time I won’t be an hour late, eek!

Way to go on the long run this morning!! 🙂 I thought of you for inspiration as I was struggling to complete a 4 mile walk/jog!! I survived it, but promptly went to get new running shoes after! It had been a year and a half!! Hopefully it will make the next time easier?? Hopefully?!?!?! 🙂

    • Tina says:

I still need to go get fit for running shoes. Mine don’t bother me but I always wonder if they are “right” for my feet.

Great job on your run/walk!!!!! One weekend after the weather cools down we will need to meet up for a walk again. But until then we’ll need to plan another down time inside. and I hope you can make the lunch on July 30!

  5. Maria says:

Oh my – Baby B’s baby blues are mesmerizing. Adorable!

Ugh, why do Saturdays always go by so fast? 🙁

  6. Em says:

Oh and P.S. Finn looks humongous next to Braedon!! Haha!! And they are only 3 weeks (I think) apart! My kid is huge!!

  7. Oh my gosh…I’m so jealous of your visit with Em! The boys are both getting so big! I’m glad you had a good visit.

  8. I definitely have days where I don’t remember what I did. Especially after a long week, the weekend just seems to fly by and I can’t even remember what happened sometimes. That’s when you know your life is crazy!

  9. I hate it when the day gets away from me. Especially Saturday. It’s the most precious of them all. I love that you have friends with kids that are the same age! I’m dying for some! 🙂 The boys look SO CUTE!!!!

    • Tina says:

Have you looked into any moms groups in your area? You can check momsclub.com or meetup.com for group listings. Or just google “mom’s club in ______”. They are a great outlet for friends with little ones!

  10. Hah, both your questions pertain to things I was going to comment on anyway.

Totes agree with you on wanting your Saturday back. Around 3:00 today I was like, “Can we just have today all over again please?” Probably because I got pampered with a five-day weekend last week. Alas. I definitely have those what did I do today? sorts of days. I journal every night, and I hate those days where I’m like “Today I…lived…life…and that’s about it. I did nothing worth remembering today.” Haha. No good.

When I was in 6th grade (10 years ago…gosh am I OLD), I met a girl Christy. She and I went to school together for one year before she moved away. We kept in touch for about the first year and then things kind of faded until social media became popular and we were friends on Xanga/MySpace/Facebook, depending on the era, but we still never really talked. Every now and again she comes back to town, and whenever she does we pick up just like we saw each other yesterday. Even though it’s been so long since we saw and talked to each other on a daily basis, every single time it’s as if no time passed it all. It’s a really cool and special friendship and was exactly what came to mind when you talked about your friendship with Em.

    • Tina says:

Your friend story reminds me of like a new age version of that movie Beaches where the two women wrote to each other all the time growing up but never really got to see each other in person, but were still the best of friends. Love that movie!

  11. Oh I definitely have those days! Like, I have to think for a while when someone asks me 😛 Wow you’re lookin’ smokin’ for real! So many cool ladies out there for sure~

  12. Priyanka says:

Today was one of those day, its 10 and I don’t even know where the day went. I achieved a lot though.

I have a few friends from college with whom I can pick up and there is not a single moment of dullness when we meet.

  13. Robyn says:

My best friends are the ones that we can go awhile without seeing or talking and pick up right where we left off. Those are the forever people who stay with you and support you through it all!

Glad to hear you had a productive day!

  14. aw so glad you got to see Em! I haven’t seen either of you since you were both pregnant – eek! You are just looking AMAZING btw and best of luck on the ambassador program!

  15. Beth says:

    Tina-
I wanted to ask you a recommendation for someone who needs to start a simple weight training program. I am great with cardio but don’t do a systematic weight training program. Any videos or books you could suggest a newbie to start with?
    Thanks!

  16. That has been this month for me. It has literally been non stop. It has been really good, but some things have had to go on the back burner because I’ve been so busy with work, grad school, and events. Life is good though!!

  17. I have a really good friend from high school that I see every 6 months or so — and we email now and then, but nothing too regular. But when we do get together we pick up where we left off — it is so cool and I love spending time with her because it feels so easy.

  18. Isn’t it so great having friends like that? So glad you had a great time! My best friend lives in Texas and I have never ven met her 10 month old son, but I’m sure when we finally get together it’ll be just like old times. 🙂
And yeah, where the heck did Saturday go?

  19. I definitely have days like that! I actually had a whole week like that when I took off from work!!

  20. Sometimes it will take a good few minutes for me to be like what DID I do yesterday!!!

Off the top of my head, I have one friend where I could years without seeing her (luckily that doesn’t happen) and we could pick up where we left off the last time. Those are the best friendships. You need that because life DOES get busy!!!

  21. I can’t believe how good you look 6 months post-baby! You look better than I do, and I haven’t had a baby! Keep up the great work, Tina

  22. How cute that your boys are the same age! I hope that when I have kids that I will have friends with kids around the same age. But all my friends are either way ahead of me or way behind! haha

  23. The boys are just too cute playing together! I frequently have days where I feel like I’ve been ripping and running but it doesn’t seem like I’ve accomplished anything 😉 Usually if I start writing down what I did I realize that I have in fact been, ripping and running all day! Hope the rest of your weekend is AMAZING!

  24. Not sure how I missed the happy weight post, but I just went back and read it and I have to say that you look AWESOME!! Just shows how being mindful really does work…you’re probably the best example I’ve ever seen of why you don’t need a diet to look amazing!

  25. oh yes, definitely had those days even weekends when I know I was busy, but can’t really recall what it was that took up all the time!

  26. aw so happy to see em here! she looks beautiful and her little boy is handsome as can be! 🙂

Where The Change Happens

Posted: November 16, 2011 at 7:54 am

It’s kind of funny. I become a certified personal trainer and the first workouts I turn to this week come from someone else. The book came in for me at the library last week and, after flipping through it, I couldn’t wait to give the circuits a go. Making The Cut includes a lot of […]
