I’ll Tell You What I Want

Posted: July 26, 2011 at 4:00 pm

I looked at the calendar today. The combination of our calendar tucked away on the side of the refrigerator and my relative obliviousness to the passing blur of days always leaves me surprised when I do stop to take a peek. Hold up. What day is it again? And then the following three thoughts cross my mind:

  • Must. Remember. To. Send. August. Preschool. Payment. MUST. Remember! (think someone is looking forward to the start of preschool?…then again my baby can’t be big enough yet! – tears commence)
  • Healthy Living Summit is in three weeks. Squeal with delight. But…oh yea. I need to find the time somewhere to finalize all the panel details. Yikes. Three weeks?!
  • Happy Birthday to me in four weeks from today!

Since my upcoming birthday has no extra freak out emotions, we’ll lay our focus there. I remember as a kid always having to craft up wish lists for my parents well in advance. You all know how I enjoy making lists. Making a list detailing fun things I would love to have awaiting me four weeks from now sounds like a pretty good way to occupy my time. And we’ll just gloss over the fact it only takes 30 seconds since I’ve had one running in my mind for at least the past two months.

A Subscription to Runner’s World

I am fully aware that running has overtaken me. I am also fully content with that and want it to overtake me even more. This way I can get my running fix even on those elliptical cross-training sessions. Winning, no?

The Women’s Health Big Book of Exercises

I used to own this book and loved it to help me always have something new to do for my workouts. It got lost in a move sometime ago and I want it back. Perhaps its lost with my previous love of reading novels because now apparently all I want to read are exercise books (NASM study materials, hello!!!), running magazines, and blogs.

iTunes Gift Card

A gift that would keep on giving. And earn you a spot in my rambling thoughts during my half marathon as I would use this gift to help create a rocking playlist for the race.

Massage

massagepanamacity5

Because I’m obviously going to need one considering my first three gift choices.

Tickets to See Wicked

Wicked is coming to The Fox! Wicked is coming to The Fox! Wicked is coming to The Fox!!! Only my favorite theater in Atlanta. Only the one Broadway musical I have been hoping would make its way to Atlanta one day. Only the best idea for a date night for me! Think I threw enough hints in there? 😉

A New FFF Shirt

Just because I create them doesn’t mean I get them for free. I want one of these two that I came up with after my original designs.

Any of the Following Will Do…

Would you expect any less of me?

A Day Where It’s All About Me

tina crop

Okay, that sounds extraordinarily selfish but I only ask for 2 of 365 days (birthday and Mother’s Day) to have the focus on me, myself, and I. To get cared for by others instead of taking care of others. And I must admit that I desperately need that feeling for this birthday. I could care less about any of the other things as long as I get that one day to feel special, appreciated, and care-free. Although Wicked tickets sure would make a nice fit. Too bad a certain two-year-old’s tuition takes precedence. Then again, that could very well be a gift that keeps on giving as well. Not bad at all, I’ll say.

  • Do you ever make gift wish lists? What would be on yours?
  • In what month is your birthday?

  1. Our birthdays are just about a week apart!! I am the 31! Hooray for August birthdays 🙂 It’s totally NOT selfish AT all to want TWO days a year focused on you, I try to get a week out of my birthday, but it doesn’t often happen haha. I want a sub to runners world too! I acutally might get one for $9.99 from Coverleaf if I can get it to work on my ultimate present, a Nook (my whole family is pitching in!) but only if I can read the articles on the Nook easily 🙂

  2. I rarely have lists of things that I want, but this year for my birthday, I can definitely think of a few!

-Garmin forerunner (super excited about this)
-A better camera (after I started blogging I found this is necessary)
    -New running shoes

My birthday is in October…my favorite season!

  3. LOVE gift wish lists!! I mean – it’s nice for others to have an idea of what you would like or make you smile – no shame in that! People aren’t mind readers! 🙂

My parents always told me that “You’re birthday is the most important day of everyone else’s lives” (because your existence – brightens everyone who knows you day) 🙂

My birthday month is June — every 7 years I have to share it with my dad because it falls on Father’s Day…

    xoxo from Trinidad

  4. I have a miles-long wishlist on Amazon, but the #1 item is a Garmin 305. I was already told I’ll get it… but not until Christmas. Boo.
And you definitely deserve a day where it’s all about you! Hopefully you get it! 🙂

  5. Maren says:

Oh my! I’ve seen Wicked twice and it’s amazing! You must go.

  6. Karin says:

My birthday is coming up next week. I have wishlist too, and you gave me some more ideas. I like that exercise book. Would love to have a kindle, but don’t think it will happen. But, most of all, I want a ‘me’ day. I took the day off work, and I told everyone, I’m busy that day. I plan to hit a spin class in the AM, maybe take myself to lunch or a movie. But, it is all about me. Hope you have a great birthday too. Enjoy YOUR day.

  7. I definitely think you should have the spinach/wineglass one for HLS — to me that is kind of your “signature” one!

My sisters have seen Wicked and LOVED IT — I haven’t seen it yet. I kind of want to read the book first.

My birthday is in December — which means lots of “here is your birthday and Christmas gift” — ugh. That is the worst. This year I’d love a Garmin/heart rate monitor, Barnes and Noble gift cards, jewelry, more Flowerbomb perfume, etc. But I usually change my mind a million times, so who knows what I’ll want in December!

  8. I LOVE WICKED! I saw the original cast on Broadway with Idina Menzel and cried the entire show! It was just so powerful and overwhelming– I couldn’t help it. Are you familiar with the show?

Also, I own and LOVE the Women’s Big Book of Exercises. That thing is practicially my gym bible

  9. Errign says:

My birthday is in June, and yes, I do tend to make gift wish lists and then pick and choose what I want off of them after everyone in my family gives me cash, hehe.

  10. Rebecca says:

The first thing I thought of when I saw this post’s title was the song, and that made me think of Chicken Little. 🙂

Also, I appreciate the way you phrased your second question, about birthdays. 😉

To answer your questions (in backward order because I’m awesome): MARCH! 🙂 And yes I do make a list. Sort of. It’s usually a combination of the left-overs from my Christmas list (the stuff I didn’t get), and stuff I’ve decided I want in the four months after Christmas. Sometimes my birthday list left-overs end up on the next year’s Christmas list too…

I would LOVE to see Wicked!
I FINALLY used my $10 iTunes card. I got it for Christmas and only just used it like last week. I still have an Applebee’s giftcard from Christmas that I haven’t yet used… Heh.

  11. Is your birthday August 25th?! Mine is August 25th!!!! FUN! 🙂

  12. Oh and you should totally get a subscription to Runners World! IT is my favorite magazine. Every time it comes in the mail I get sooo excited!!

  13. I think a day all about you us the perfect bday present. I do make gift wish lists – it helps the family LOL.

  14. lindsay says:

those all sounds good to me! my dad got me a subscription to runners world for christmas 2 years ago and its been the best present! LOVE IT. Hint hint to peter.
    😉

  15. I LOVE making wish lists…except that I usually seem to make them at times when my birthday or christmas are not near haha. I really want a massage. I’ve never had a professional one…I think I should get on that asap! 🙂

  16. Ha! I was just pointing out one of those pillows with arms to my husband and telling him it’d be a fabulous gift for a breastfeeding mom who had to be up in the middle of the night. However, my birthday’s still 6 months away, so that’s all I’ve got for now.

  17. What a great wish list! And happy one month early birthday to you!

I don’t normally make wish lists..usually all I want is a new LuLuLemon shirt or pants or a nice meal out to one of our fav restaurants…it always somehow seems to involve either fitness or food…fine by me 😉

My birthday is in May (a big one too, 30!), and my only one big wish is to be pregnant by then 🙂

  18. I always make wish lists! a massage is always on the higher level on my list 🙂 My bday is in September!

  19. Sooo I may or may not have been crafting my birthday list since, you know, January.

My birthday may or may not be in September.

Haha but really. I do have a mental birthday list already. I already got one of the items (hello new cell phone!), but we have a couple things in common (iTunes gift card and a massage). I really should write the list down sometime in the near future, because I know there’s more….

  20. Chelsea says:

I’m praying one of your t-shirts is waiting on my porch for me when I get home!

You DESERVE to have a day to yourself and there is nothing wrong with asking for it. Being a mom is the toughest job out there…I wouldn’t REALLY know but it’s my dream job 🙂

You must must must go see Wicked. I have seen some other shows, and nothing has topped this one!!

  21. corndog says:

Running World magazine is awesome!! I am by no means a “runner” and I have been getting this magazine for about 3 years now.

  22. Great wish list! Of course your birthday should be all about you ~ it’s a special day! I always make gift lists for my hubby. We both like them because then you can actually get something that you want, but don’t want to splurge on for no reason. It’s nice to be spoiled with something you’ve been dying to have!!

  23. Ela says:

I hope you get your wishes. Happy almost-birthday: I always wished my birthday was sometime btwn June and August, summertime: mine is at the end of February, midwinter!

That Book of Exercises looks like an awesome resource.

  24. cheryl says:

Back in 2006 or 2005, I saw Wicked at the Fox. SO MUCH FUN!

  25. Courtney says:

I hope all your wishes come true!
I have been eyeing the Big Book of Exercises, too 🙂

  26. I just told my husband I want a subscription to Runners World- great minds think alike! My bday is August 21- sounds like we are pretty close! How old are you turning? I’m hitting the big 2-9.

  27. Elaine says:

OOOH!! I love your gift wish list- I hope you get it all! 🙂 Wicked is so so so good, so I really hope you get that one!

  28. I would take any of those gifts!

I am a big fan of gift lists and post my wishlist every year for my birthday and Christmas on our fridge 🙂
    (As a joke…well, semi ;))

  29. I love love LOOOVE birthdays – it’s the only day in the year that I can pull the “it’s my birthday” card out.. works like a charm!

  30. cindy says:

My birthday was yesterday!! And it was one of the best ever! I got a new Garmin (to replace my super ancient one, almost 10 years old!!!), a Bluetooth speaker for my car (i drive about 30K miles a year, so safety is important), a special dinner out the night before w hubs, a special dinner at home the night of w the Fam, and a girls lunch w mom and sis coming up on Friday! Couldn’t ask for more!!

We always celebrate bday week….mine is July 25, hubs is July 30 and our anniversary is July 28! (which means I get another dinner our thurs for our anniversary and Sunday for his bday!!!)

And I have seen wicked twice, once on Broadway. You would live it!

  31. There is NO shame in making birthday gift lists. 😉 I’ve actually found it harder in the past few years to make them, even when family requests it. They must hate shopping for me. haha. Running gear is always fun to get though.

Hope you get several of the gifts off of your wish list!

  32. I am a huge hinter at Christmas, but not so much for my birthday. I always consider summer vacation to be my birthday present, since I’m a June birthday.

I love everything on your list, especially Wicked! 🙂

  33. I make wish lists for Christmas, which I think is super helpful and wish my husband would do! But, we’ve kind of stopped with the birthday presents recently so I don’t make lists for that as much. Yours all look like great gift ideas though. I would love a runner’s world subscription and another lens for my camera, too bad Christmas is still a ways off and my birthday is in April!

  34. Anna says:

I used to make gift lists but haven’t the last few years. If I were to make a list I am pretty sure it would include Mother Goose Rocks CDs for my classroom, music posters for my classroom and some curtains for my new place. My birthday is in July 🙂

  35. My birthday is August 16th…I can’t wait!

Asking for a day where it’s all about you is NOT selfish, you deserve it girl! I hope you get everything you wished for, and more!!

  36. LindseyAnn says:

My birthday is in July. In fact, said occasion is this Friday. 🙂 I used to be a bit of a diva in regards to it, but after I had a rather traumatizing life event happen 3 years ago right around my birthday, I’ve started just wanting it to be low key. This year, all I want to do is go to the beach and leave my phone in the car so no one can reach me.
My “gift wish” lists have evolved as well, from things I’d like to have to things I’d like to do. Last year, I just wanted to go camping. The year before, milkshakes and a movie. And, as I said this year, just a day at the beach and maybe a burger after I can’t take the sun anymore.

  37. My birthday is in two days! My husband whisked me away last weekend for trip to Canada’s wine country to celebrate. On Friday I plan on skipping work, getting a massage, and maybe doing some shopping- nothing to taxing as I arrive at 30!

I don’t typically make lists due to guilt so I’ll try to hint in the months leading up. Nobody asked for a list this year…guess maybe I dropped enough hints.

  38. Rebecca says:

I always make birthday and christmas lists! And I have a friend who e-mails her wish lists with links to the gifts she wants!

  39. Lee says:

I saw Wicked at the Fox the last time it was here (maybe 2 years ago?). You need to get tickets. It was really good!

For my birthday, which is not until April, I’d like some yoga classes. They get expensive!

  40. My birthday is in August too! I do not make wish gift lists. Good idea, though.

I am dying to see Wicked. For the longest time it was impossible to get tickets on Broadway and now that they are available it feels like a long stretch for me to leave the baby. Maybe I’ll hint to my husband that we could do it for my birthday!

HLS is in 3 weeks? Wow! I didn’t realize it was so soon. I’m so excited to meet all my favorite bloggers (including yourself!) in person!

  41. I am SO LIKE YOU! I think that my birthday is one of those days that I NEED to be taken care of.

  42. I got a Runners World subscription a few months ago – great investment, and really not very costly! I hope you get it, you’ll love it Tina!

  43. […] you might know that her birthday was not too long ago and there were a couple of items on her birthday wish list.  I tried to satisfy them all but there was one item she wanted/wants so bad.  Of course, […]
