TEN!!!
Posted: September 3, 2011 at 10:00 amI. Ran. Ten. Miles!!!! Reaching that double digit milestone feels oh so good.
And the run itself didn’t feel half bad either!
I woke up while it was still pitch black dark outside and grumbled for not forcing myself to bed earlier last night. How time leaps so suddenly from 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm I will never know. It’s mighty hard waking up so early to eat even when you aren’t hungry. But fuel is most important for long runs, so chow down I will!
Don’t you love the high class Instagram-broken-muffin-smooshed-Larabar-on-a-napkin shot? You may sign up for photo lessons with me through my contact page.
Then, after chilling, digesting, and using Twitter to motivate me for an hour, I finally laced up, started my Garmin, strapped on the Spibelt, and took off.
And I survived!
No, really…I survived. Running ten miles was the easy part of this run, it seemed.
When I got to the running path, I opted to go a different direction than my normal route to have some different scenery. This part of the running pathway is a little older and mostly made up of “boardwalks”.
Boards + running = not safe for this klutzo. I tripped six times on my run. I’m thankful I didn’t sprain an ankle and only came out with my confidence bruised a bit.
Although the tripping wasn’t quite as embarrassing as what happened towards the end of my run. After 7.5 miles, things started to get a bit hotter and I went for a big gulp of my water. Note to self: only small sips work while I’m on the move.
The water ended up going down the wrong pipe and left me splurting and coughing with water gushing out of my nose. I should have taken a bow for the show I gave all the other runners passing by.
So, despite almost choking to death (dramatic much?) or almost taking a face plant numerous times, I survived the run and felt on top of the world as I walked back to my car.
See what my shirt says? It most definitely is.
- What time did you wake up this morning?
- Are you a klutz?

Congrats on double digits!!!! That is an AMAZING feat.. it makes the tripping and choking not even matter! I’m a total klutz (and I was a ballet dancer.. you’d think the opposite) so it doesn’t even phase me when I stub my toe 19 times a day…
Congrats on 10 miles! I love that you don’t give up even when it seems like everything is against you. Trip 6 times and keep on going, that’s awesome!
CONGRATS!!! 10 miles is a looong way and you are going to ROCK this half marathon!! 😀
I sprained my ankle when running by falling over haha, so yes I’m a klutz! And I woke up at a leisurely 9am…but my long run is tomorrow, so I’ll be doing the same as you! Yaay can’t wait for that early start! 😛
Oh, to wake up at 9 am…..what’s that feel like? LOL
Girl your arms in that last pic, Daay-am! 😀 Color me jealous. I think some planks and push ups will now be following my walk today hehe. Total motivation!
Ten miles!!! Well done for completing a double digits run, girl! I was up at 7.45 this morning to hit up the gym! Lately it seems that either I go first thing in the morning or chances are I will be very unmotivated to go at all!
Aw, that is awesome, Tina! Good job! And nice stats, too! It’s amazing how good we feel after we push through a workout–taking the first step in the morning is always the hardest!
Haha, love the subway napkin too.
Congrats!!! Double digits, whoop whoop!
My morning run got cancelled due to tropical storm Lee. 🙁
Boo hiss on that. Sounds like Lee got in the way of a lot of runs this morning. I’m sure you will get another good one in soon though! 😉
Way to go on double digits Tina!!! You’re giving me hope that I can hit(and surpass) the 10k mark 🙂 I woke up at 5 for a 630 shift and I am a TOTAL klutz, I have all the bumps, bruises, scars, and stains to prove it 😀
LOL, don’t take up trail racing any time soon, Tina! 🙂 Awesome job – enjoy your daylong double digit runner’s high! (and start looking into fall marathons for next year 😉 )
I will NEVER trail run. I know I would end up in the hospital. LOL
Awesome job, girl! I always loved long run days because I felt like I could eat absolutely anything I wanted! 😉 I would usually try to drag the family to all-you-can eat type places.
Just wait until tomorrow afternoon’s post. I will do you proud. 😉
yes, total clutch here. wow and so long run. Ahh when I run already a 2 miles I feel like I have done great. But your 10, wow , just wow
Congratualtions of the run! I am totally a klutz – I have tripped before, without boardwalk-boards, just under my own 2 feet! hahaha 🙂 And I was an early bird myself this morning, getting up at 6:15 – without an alarm clock I may add (brushes off shoulders) 🙂
Haha! Love the shoulder brush. 🙂
Ahh congrats! That is so awesome :). I can be a klutz..it depends on what shoes I’m wearing. Actually, that’s kind of a lie because I always have bruises all over my legs and I’m not really sure how they got there haha
I enjoy reading about your running progress. it’s motivating. I woke up at 7 and got out the door for my run around 8:30. Wish I would’ve woke up sooner for a little bit cooler run. I took a week off (read: lazy & unmotivated) so it was a difficult run but I did 5K!
What do you like to eat before you run besides the above shot?
I usually always do that combo because it works so well for me and never upsets my stomach…but before other workouts during the week I will do bars, a yogurt, a banana, an apple, or a few handfuls of cereal/granola typically. 🙂
Great job on your run and getting back in the groove! 🙂
Great job!!!! Such a milestone. I always choke on beverages in the most public of places ;). We got up, up at 745. But you know how newborn feedings go.. 🙂
Great job, Tina! You are going to rock the half marathon (and the 15K for that matter)!
I’ve definitely choked on water on the treadmill before and spit it out on my shirt. I’m sure the people next to me loved that.
Congratulations on double digits Tina! It does feel wonderful first time you do it! Thank you thank you, so much for posting these things and making me feel like I am not the only person out there who chokes to death trying to drink water and run simultaneously or locks their keys inside their car. I’m sure you wouldn’t clog an entire race though because you had it happen to you in the middle of a half marathon 😉
You just wait. I very well could have my own embarrassing moment to share after my half. LOL
Klutzes unit!!! 😉
Oh my gosh! Super congratulations!! Ten miles? That’s amazing! Relating back to Lisa’s response on the Healthy Living Summit, I don’t really enjoy running. I love walking, bike riding, and basically any other form of cardio except running. Every once in a while it feels really good to go out for a mile or two mile run, but I’m not like most other bloggers who run daily and run races. Sometimes I feel like I’m missing out on something, and I wish I could be like you and enjoy running. I just don’t though. I just have to keep doing my own thing and remember not to compare myself to other bloggers.
DEFINITELY!!! You have to do what works for YOU. That’s kind of how I feel with yoga…like I should love it, but i just don’t. So I don’t stress it. You do you! 😉
Woohoo! Awesome job Tina!
I totally would have stumbled on the boards too…
I got up around 6:45 to run 5 miles, it was a little later than I wanted, but I had a good run 🙂
Excellent, Tina!! You are terrific. Now go run a mile for Me!! Just kidding. Walking is my thing. So proud of you, though!!
Way to go, Tina!! 🙂 Hope I can work my way up to ten miles someday!
You definitely can! I started shocked I could run 5 minutes straight. LOL
I woke up at 6 but didn’t get moving until 630. I love AM workouts 🙂
this makes me excited for the day I hit 10!
Yay for a double-digit run! Such a cool accomplishment. Don’t worry about being a klutz, your race won’t be on boards.
I woke up at 5 today to run and swim. Nice to be done early.
Haha! I’ll just end up tripping over all the other people.
And you are one of the most determined/dedicated worker-outers. Love that about you! 🙂
Congrats!!
I didn’t wake up until almost 11 this morning. I was up late with my roomie and her boyfriend and her cousin. First time sleeping in in over a week. Woo!
Yep, bit klutzy.
I sooooo wish I could sleep in until 11. At least I had a good 3 hour nap today. 🙂
Congrats on an awesome run! 10 milers always seem SO exciting because it’s in the double digits. I am a total klutz – I’ve almost faceplanted too many times to count while running.
Good job on the 10 miler! You will totally rock that half if you can already run 10 miles this early in the game! Sorry about the tripping though, I’m a klutz too that’s why I don’t really care for trails. But at least your half won’t be on the board so it will be easier when you do the actual race!
I woke up at 6:30 this morning to take my husband to get new tires and we went yard saling :). That’s pretty much it for us, lol.
AWESOME! I’m so proud of you Tina! And that is a fantastic time too! 😀
Ugh, snarfing water sucks! Awesome job on your run, but most importantly still fitting in the time for YOURSELF! Keep that streak going because your relationships will only be that much better if the relationship with yourself is in tact (that starts with some alone time). Your an inspiration!
Big High five over here from the Cotters! Klutz free and all!
Good Job on ten miles! I woke up at 7:30am today to complete my workout. One of my best workouts. 🙂
Yay for an awesome workout!!
Oh, man! Those boardwalk planks would have been the end of me. I fall *every time* (yes, it’s true) when I run on trails, so I imagine the boardwalk would be the same. I’d probably trip while walking on it. Clutzo.
I didn’t get up until 9 AM today (even though the dogs were barking at 6:30, and I should have been up then to swim from 7:00 to 8:30, then cycle afterwards). Apparently my body needed it. Heading out for a run now…
I woke up at 5:30 this morning, for no reason other than being pregnant.
Anyway.
Congratulations on your run!!! Ten is HUGE!
Yea,I saw your tweet. I remember those days. No fun at all!
Yay for completing your long run! 10 miles is awesome. I got up at 7:30 this morning so I could also do a long 8 mile run!
I am a huge klutz so I totally understand the whole tripping on the bridge thing. I constantly trip on the sidewalk!! So embarrassing!
Double digits are SUCH a fun milestone! GOOD JOB!
Congrats on the long run! It’s always awesome to be able to run that far!
I also always choke on my water and trip when running across wooden slats. On my long run this morning, there were three bridges that were made up of slats and I kept catching my foot every 10 feet it seemed. Just call me Grace!
Congrats Tina! I am horrible at walking into walls. The ones that have been there for years! I got up at 6:30 am. I keep thinking I can sleep in, but my body just won’t allow it. Oh well, I’m just going with it these days!
I hope your mom is doing better. I’ve been thinking about your family!
Congratulations on your 10 miler today. Good time also.
Sounds like you had a great time in spite of the spills.
Keep up the great progress.
Congrats on the new PDR! 🙂
I’m a HUGE klutz. When I used to live on campus at my college, I would run around the streets there. As I was running through a busy spot on campus I tripped on an uneven part of sidewalk. Not only did I trip, I completely wiped out. With many, many people watching. I just got up and ran away and tried not to look at anyone.
Also, I apparently didn’t learn my lesson because this happened not once, but TWICE within a few months of each other. Same spot. I’m a walking embarrassment, really.
10 must be the magic number today – I got in a fantastic 10-mile run too. I started at 7:30 trying my best to beat the heat. Nicely done!!!!
We are made to workout together someday. 10 mile runs, Cathe lovers, weight lovers…it’s destiny. 😉
Yay on your 10 miler!!!! I love that you never give up no matter how much stuff could go wrong on your run!
I got up at 4:40am to get to the gym to do some free weights and on the spin bike for 45 minutes and then back home to pick up my 10 month old so we could go run our 7 miles today. Momma’s tired now! 🙂
Heck yea Mommy’s tired now! Whew! And then no rest for the weary caring for the little ones. 😉
This deserves a fist pump. Great job!
Congrats on your first 10 mike run! Speedy too!
I moved my long run until tomorrow so I slept in today, prob got up around 9:30. And, yes, I’m a klutz.
Congrats, Tina!!!! Well done!! That’s a huge accomplishment!!!
Congrats!!!
WOW! I’m seriously impressed!! Congratulations!!!!
I got up today at 7…then 8….then 830…then 9….then 915…then 930…then 945…and finally I just decided to give up on sleeping in & got out of bed. Today is the one day of the week I can sleep past 7 and I couldn’t even do it!! Bummer.
Yay!!! Congtats! I remember when I first hit double digits. Such a great feeling. 🙂
Congrats on the double digits. I have been reading your blog for about a year and you always seem to remind me why it is so important to make goals and more importantly- follow through with them! Love your blog:)
Thank you so much, Jennifer! And thanks for commenting…now I can come visit you. 🙂
Were can I sign up to take these high class photos???
Hahaha! Love you, Sana!
You are awesome! Congrats! “Run like no one’s watching,” right? But I love how you tell a joke on yourself.
I woke a little before six this morning–fairly standard for me.
I have been an awful klutz at certain times in my life, and at others, not at all. For me, it seems linked to my health and nutrition, especially as a vegan. It’s one of those little warning signs. When I ‘took a break from being vegan’ a few years ago and added raw eggs, I had been falling apart in every which way. One of the most obvious quick changes with the eggs added was that I completely stopped being klutzy!
Right now, I’m pretty klutzy again. And pretty vegan for a few years. Hmmm…
Awesome job on the run!! I just ran 9 miles a few nights ago and it felt amazing!! I’m glad you didn’t sprain anything, I feel like I would have lol.
