A Review Of Two Cup Sizes

Posted: September 7, 2011 at 7:51 pm

I don’t lie when I say you can expect genuine honesty and realness when you come to this blog. I happily put it all out there. Perhaps I should get a filter for my click-a-clacking fingers that type whatever they fancy…but that would take the fun out things. So, here I am discussing the lady humps again.

You all may recall my participation in the Champion Shape Your Life blogger campaign. As part of that campaign, I received two different sports bras to review. And only I would manage to review two different sports bras while sporting two different cup-sizes. I’m a dang magician, I tell ya! Or a mother who went through the weaning process mid-program.

The first sports bra I tried out was the Champion Double Dry Spot Comfort bra. The bra claimed to have maximum support and that it was perfect for higher impact activities.

IMGP0921-3

I put the bra to the true test and wore it on my ten mile run this past weekend. With the whole milk swollen, painful thing going on.

Champion did some good with this one. I give the bra an A+ in handling this D-sized situation. My run was bounce free with no chafing (yay moisture wicking qualities) and without feeling pinched and constricted in a too tight bra (my previous remedy to the bounce). It even has a clasp like a bra in the back so you can size it perfectly for your body. Nice. Smile

This sports bra made me question everything about my firm belief I needed two sports bras to keep things under control. Nope. I just needed a sports bra that wasn’t 5+ years old. <—Sad truth.

Then, I broke out bra numero dos during my strength training workout on Tuesday. The Champion Double Dry Absolute Workout bra.

P1140835-1

Or I guess we could call it Bra B – to represent my post-weaning bra size. This bra had medium support and is great for activities like group fitness classes, cardio time on the elliptical, hitting the weights, or if you don’t need to keep things under lock and key to prevent having your eye poked out during higher impact workouts. Plus, it’s cute.

So two bras – two reviews – two sizes. And a demonstration that I clearly don’t know what TMI means. What can I say? I like to research well. Winking smile

  • What things do you look for in a sports bra?
  • Do you have any old workout clothes you still wear? How old?

The review in this post is sponsored by Champion and I received monetary compensation for my participation, but my review and opinions are my own. I only ever participate in programs that I see naturally fit my blog and that allow for honest feedback.

  1. I love your TMI posts – they make me laugh and I basically nod along with them the entire time. And, I don’t need much support. Heck, I could go braless if I really wanted to. TMI? Maybe.

  2. girl, I always admire your open honesty! 🙂 and it only benefits US – just today I was thinking I need to look for a couple new running tops + bras. I have a good one, and actually it’s a Champion (the one you have to CLIMB into, it doesn’t unfasten all the way… and I love it. it’s nice to know about others that keep you from moving! 😀

  3. Haha, I loved this post. I mostly just look for comfort in a sports bra… not much support is needed here. 😉 Aaand I definitely have some workout clothes that are several years old…oops. I just can’t part with them!

  4. Nothing ruins a workout faster than a lousy sports bra.

I love my Moving Comfort ones, but they’re getting kind of old and scuzzy. Time to look for some new ones — I’ll have to check out Champion!

  5. I actually just bought of of their sports bras at Target today. I hope it’s good! I can’t wait to try it. Thanks for the review! I do love your honesty!

  6. Being a natural D cup, support is my number one priority! My favorite sports bras are the ones that have individually shaped cups because I often fall victim to ‘uni-boob’!! Attractive, right!? 😉

P.S. I am totally guilty of having a couple of sports bras and workout tops that are past the 4-5 year mark!

    • Tina says:

The maximum support one has individual cups but it’s not super separate looking itself to where it looks like a regular bra. I loved that.

  7. Amanda says:

My sports bras need a) distinct cups (NO uniboobing here!), b) underwires, and c) to be rated for high impact. Not so much because I’m a high-impact kind of gal, but because The Girls have been through two pregnancies, a combined 2.5+ years of breastfeeding, and a massive weight gain and loss so they’re… erm… more of a 32-Long than a 32 D anymore.

And yes, one of my best is a Champion 🙂

    Support: I needz it.

  8. I love your honesty! You are too funny girl! I JUST bought new sports bras…mine were about 4-5 years old…eww!

  9. Let me tell you, I have a few sports bras in my drawer, that I still wear, that are almost 10 years old. I’m so not kidding. I hate spending money on things like sports bras! I’m happy to hear the Champion ones are good, because I think they are less expensive than the majority of the ones I own.

  10. G says:

HA you are too much! seriously though, thanks for the review. my baby is 7 months old and um I am still not exercising much in part because I didn’t feel like shopping for a new (temporary) sports bra. I like that the first one has the clasp in the back. May have to try that one.

D to B isn’t too bad. I’m at D now while nursing and have nightmares of AA when I’m done! HA

  11. I don’t think you’re being too TMI at all! I like my sports bras to be supportive…I’m not big at all, but I don’t like the girls bouncing around either. And I think I still have a sports bra from high school…eek that’s like 6-7 years old!

  12. Heather says:

I must admit I have some pretty old running socks and sports bras.

I like my sports bras to be really tight when I am running. I have champion c9 from target with the adjustable straps and I like those. I also love running skirts strappy tops b/c they have rouching so no uni boob action and they have double straps to evenly distribute weight!

  13. Lauren says:

I have a few Champion sports bras and I love them! A girl can never have too many “good” sports bras.

  14. i still have a couple sport bras that my mom got me for high school gym class. i’m 25. you do the math. thankfully, i’ve recently started upgrading them by finding deals on nice bras at marshalls or tjmaxx! 🙂

  15. Goodness gracious! I think my oldest sports bra is around 8 years old. My monkey will be 7 this November. 😛

If I could find one that wasn’t to expensive, I would look for the moisture wicking and super support for jumping around like in plyometrics. There are an awful lot of things I do modified since it hurts way to much to do them regularly.

  16. Ana Maria says:

haha, this post was so honest and clever! you made me laugh out loud.

  17. April says:

Oh nice! I would love to review sports bras because those things are EXPENSIVE if you end up getting and sweating on them, you’re out like fifty, sixty dollars a pop! Bras for anything bigger than a C cup are so pricy, and the higher the cup size the less pretty they are. That’s why I am trying to exercise my DDs down to a D at least. At least… thanks for the reviews!

  18. I love for support, support, support! Can’t say that enough! I still wear a lot of my old workout clothes…many of them are ratty T shirts!

  19. Emily Malone says:

Seriously, B to a D? Ugh, I need to go buy all new nursing bras! This stuff is so confusing!

    • Don’t do it yet!!! I was a 36C, went to 38F!!! while pregnant, and am now DOWN to a 34DD and am nursing. Wait and see.

As for sports bras? None of mine are more than maybe 3 years old b/c I need so much support. I’ll have to try the first one!

    • Tina says:

Keep them with the tags on and wait and see what you’re looking like about 2-3 weeks post partum. Things will be very, errr, swollen let’s say for the first couple of weeks. Then, they may stay big, go down a bit, or go down more than you thought.

      Dang crazy pregnancy bodies.

      • Jessica says:

Is it sad that all these comments are making me WANT to have another baby? I loved nursing. My first one (now 17) was a natural, but it only lasted about 4 months with work and school, and being very young myself. My second (now 12) was a horrilbe nurser. It was very discouraging because I was looking forward to it the whole time I was pregnant. My third (almost 3) was also a natural. My only boy, I nursed him until he was 14 months.

  20. I’m in the market for a couple of new sports bras..I’m going to look for these. Mine always create a uni-boob, totally unflattering.

  21. been there with the D to B. will be there again in 8-12 mo when I wean tis babe! Great review! I love Champion!

  22. Amy Lauren says:

Last year when I moved, I threw out some adidas running shorts I’d had since 2004, haha. But really, if clothes fit and are in good shape, I keep them around. Workout clothes are not cheap.

I think it’s neat you were able to review two sizes of bras and you went through the weaning process while doing the review. It shows that the bras are really made for women of all sizes and going through things that people go through, but still being able to work out in the process :).

  23. I have tons of old workout clothes — but I like to get new pieces now and then. I actually picked up a few new Champion bras at Target a few weeks ago and I just love them. I really like them to be as snug as possible without digging in/chafing. Champion is my fave brand for sports bras for sure!

  24. Thank you for this post! I have been on the lookout for a new running bra, because I too wear sports bras that are 5+ years old and don’t seem to work very well. I like Champion, so I will definitely have to check this one out!

  25. Kelly @ Not So Rocky Road says:

That is great news about bra numero uno b/c I just ordered 1!! Now I can’t wait to try it! I’m still searching for that perfect bra.

  26. Lisa says:

For those of you who are on the “larger” side, I totally recommend the Enell sports bras. They are intense, but NO bouncing will occur.

  27. Haha! Tina, I love your TMI posts, they keep it fun up in here 🙂
Sadly, I have a 5+ yr old (more like 10+) sports bra too. I can’t wear it for high intensity workouts anymore obviously, but I do break it out when everything else is in the laundry and I’m doing something low key. No shame! 😉
I’m partial to my lululemon ta-ta tamer. That bra is amazing and worth every penny!

  28. Oh yes, I have lots of old clothes. Sports bras are as hard for me to buy as regular bras because I am very, very small on top. But even tiny boobs need some support during a workout! The ones that fit me best were 3 for $10 at Walmart!

  29. Anna Crouch says:

There are only 2 things I look for in a sports bra:

    1) the smallest size available (possibly from the little girls department)
    2) padding–the more the better!

Is that TMI for you?? I, for some reason, have been *blessed* with an extremely small chest so I don’t need much support from a bra while I work out. All I need is a bit of OOMPH so people don’t mistake me for a 12 year old.

And you may think I’m kidding when I say the bra could come from the girls department. I’ve bought them from there before!!

  30. Dorry says:

I love the honesty! Especially when it comes to girly things. We can all relate. I have to say I’ve found my best sports bras (specifically for running!) since I started working at lululemon. I used to double up on running bras, but now I just wear one and it holds the girls in place!

  31. Love it! I love bra reviews! Sports bras are my most important workout gear. I need a ton of support, especially for running. Well you read my nunga post, so you know all about this 🙂
    You are the cutest ever.

  32. Lee says:

I recently threw away a few sports bras that were from my sophomore year in college which was 1998!

Also, the treadmill that I was on in Vegas was sort of in front of a window and I could see my reflection and I realized that the bra that I was currently wearing was not working. I thought my boobs were going to hit me in the face.

  33. I so need new sports bras. All of mine are at least two years old, but most are six years old. Yikes!

  34. Loved this post! I’m going to have to check out their bras – although I’m afraid they might not have the circumference size that I would need… These 40Ds are hard to tame.

  35. Hilary says:

You make me laugh…thanks for sharing! 😉 I’ve got some workout tops from Costco that are probably 4 years old, maybe more, and a couple t-shirts that are 10 + years old (don’t wear them that much tough). I have to say, my fav sports bra of ALL TIME is the lululemon tata tamer. Expensive, but SO worth the $! No uniboob, and serious control. Any sports bra that comes in regular bra sizes and not small/medium/large I find gives you a nicer shape.

  36. You make me giggle!!!
I love lululemons sports bras but i need to get some that clasp in the back because i always struggle with getting them off after a hard workout, i have wimpy arms you see 🙂

  37. Lisa says:

My bra size used to be 42FF. Pretty, pretty big. It was difficult to find sports bras that fit. It was a struggle. Then as I lost weight it was hard to find ones that were adjustable as I lost weight. So I had some pretty bad sports bras for awhile. Now I’m at a size that’s difficult to find because it’s really small. Boo. Why couldn’t I lose the weight in the hips instead??

  38. Katie says:

Haha! I can so relate…I wear two (really small) sports bras while running with milky-full boobies these days. Maybe I should just invest in a more quality one.

  39. I don’t think this was TMI at all. Finding the right bra is serious business for us gals trying to stay fit. I can only imagine how much more difficult it becomes while breast feeding. I’m impressed more than anything.

The only bra I’ve found to keep the bounce under control (I’m a 32DD) is Moving Comfort’s Juno bra. When I tried it out I was in AWE. There isn’t zero movement, but I can run with confidence. Amazing. Maybe I can try out bra A above because its way cuter than my 4 (2 black and 2 white) juno bras.

  40. Amy says:

So I am going to be a newb here (or just a clueless 27 year old) but how long do women nurse for? And the milk just stays in the tata’s if it isn’t used?

  41. This post and the accompanying comments is why i just adore the blogging community! I dont think it is TMI at all when we all go through the exact same issues! I do not have kids but have played high-impact sports my whole life and while I certainly lack in the chest department, there is still a necessity to find ‘the one’ when looking for a sports bra. Once ‘the one’ is found I usually stick with it for the next 4-5 years.
Plus, wearing a new sports bra always seems to give me a little extra self-confidence 🙂

  42. Amy says:

I love this post! It’s actually coming at a great time for me because I am training for my 1st marathon in October– and have been experiencing the “I-feel-like-I-need-2-bras-otherwise– OUCH” phenomena you described 😉

I’ll have to try out #1 for sure! Thanks for your honesty & a great review!
