8 Ways To Make Today A Good Day

Posted: October 4, 2011 at 7:11 am

Yesterday could have started off as a recipe for disaster – a sick child, a good bit on the to-do list, and a Monday. Ick. Yet, I still ended up having a really good day. I took care of my kids. I made homemade tomato soup for dinner. I made my workout happen with two fantastic new circuits.

I saw a quote while reading my morning devotional yesterday:

“An attitude is contagious. Is yours worth catching?”

Something about that stuck with me and I decided I was going to make the day a good one. I believe we have the power to do that each and every day – to make our days good or bad. Well, except for those days where everything seems to align against us or something really awful happens. Have a bad day then. I don’t blame ya.

But in the day to day? Make it good. It may not be ground-breaking information, but sometimes we all need a little reminder or nudge in the right direction…

8 Ways To Make Today A Good Day

Find something to laugh at – whether a comedy on TV or a funny YouTube video online. Might I suggest an oldie but goodie of baby B getting caught dancing?

De-stress. Take 5 deep breaths. Take a power nap. Pray. De-clutter your space.

Splurge a little on something you normally wouldn’t. Nab that $30 group deal for a massage. Satisfy the fancy coffee craving. Crawl into bed at 8 pm tonight. Do whatever suits your fancy and will feel like a small treat.

Get active. Even a short walk outdoors will get the blood flowing. Hey – it could even be better than the time in the gym.

Flashback “get active” image! Look at that belly go!

Tackle a realistic to-do list. I try to pick the minimal amount of things that really need to get done. That way, I feel productive and not overwhelmed.

Give someone a kiss, a hug, or, at the very least, a smile. I plan on all three…although I must say baby snuggles are the best.

If only they could stay this snuggly forever.

Count up the blessings. List out 5 good things in life. I promise you have five.

Eat something delicious….and savor it. Oh pumpkin oats breakfast, you really do start my day off right. Cliché? Whatever. I’m going to eat what I want for my one meal of the day I get to enjoy in peace and quiet.

And that breakfast is calling my name right now… Coffee cup

You tell me – how do you plan on making today a good one?

  1. I think that having a positive attitude makes a world of difference!! Even if things don’t go your way, having a “c’est la vie” attitude is key!

  2. Khushboo says:

Great list and all very realistic ideas! My day is going great thanks to 3 of those:

    1) I started off with a great upper body workout and finally increased my dumbell weights for overhead presses

    2) I had my overnight oatmeal ready for me when I came home, which hit the spot as usual

    3) I managed to tick a few things off my work to-do list

and for one which you didn’t mention:

    4) Read blogs that bring a smile to your face…I just did 🙂

  3. Katie says:

    Love this!

I always count my blessings, kiss my husband and son goodbye EVERY day and EVERY night before bed : )

I just had pumpkin pancakes, your pumpkin breakfast looks fab!

I need my pumpkin coffee now, and its brewing ; )

  4. I already found someone to kiss good morning and I’m enjoying some coffee before I rush to the shower before work! I love getting up when it’s dark out and working out in the peaceful cool mornings! It is so refreshing. I hope the kids feel better today and that you have a great one Tina!

  5. i think the laughter one is the one that really hit me as completely necessary…the other ones are doable and completely part of my everyday life, but i can’t remember the last time i belly-laughed at something!

  6. Chrissic says:

My dad always said, “happiness is a choice, choose happiness”. Starting my day hearing this as a kid was annoying, however, having this implanted in my head as an adult is priceless. Thanks Dad 🙂

    Have a great day!!

  7. Thanks for the reminder to declutter. I always get anxious the second I open my office door and see my messy desk. Today is the perfect day to take the bull by the horns and tackle it!

  8. Lori Lynn says:

Thank you for the list this morning. It was something I really needed today!!

  9. I always find the best days are the ones when I start off with a good attitude about how the day will be. Today is going to be a great day because I have a long walk with the dog planned for tonight! (And the TV to myself while Jon works late. Hee hee.)

  10. Lauren says:

This was a great way to start the day! I’m gonna make it good by going into my exam with a positive attitude.

  11. This is totally random, but I love the paint color of your living room! I’ve always wanted to paint our dining room green, but haven’t been brave enough to do it!

  12. That video is too cute! Great post 🙂

  13. Amy says:

Lovely post — exactly what I needed this morning. (Ha, I am running on way too little sleep this morning… and a few other things have conspired to make me say, “Well, it can only go up from here!” 🙂

Today I will (1) Write (2) Fit in a strength training circuit work out and (3) Buy pumpkin spice coffee. Today is (and will be) a good day 🙂

PS: Also, the video? …Cutest thing ever <3

    • Tina says:

You could always do normal coffee with pumpkin spice added to the grounds. That’s what I do and its a cheaper way to get my fix without buying a “special” seasonal bag. 🙂

  14. agree with everything you said, friend. I think just knowing that God is in control of everything we need – knowing that provides me with a peace that I don’t have to be in control. So glad that I’m saved. So glad that I’m loved beyond what I deserve!

  15. I’m going to go with the last one and eat a pumpkin chocolate chip cake bar later that I made yesterday. I can assure you it will be savored 🙂

  16. I love your tip about de-cluttering your space. If I take 15 minutes to just pick up odds and ends and do a little organizing, I instantly feel so much better.

  17. jobo says:

I plan to make today a good day by being productive at work and making M some cookies as a little surprise since he had a bad day yesterday 😉 LOVE that vid of baby B! so cute.

  18. Baby snuggles really are the best 🙂
Attitude is a huge deal! No matter what is going on in my life, I put everything in perspective. Start your day saying “this is the best day of my life!” Maybe its corny, but theres so much to be grateful for (like the simple things:food, a roof over my head, my health), and don’t sweat the small stuff. Today I plan on being super productive !

  19. Your right on with all of these! I always appreciate your uplifting and encouraging posts. Today is quite a gloomy day here, so I’ve been feeling pretty “blah” today – this is a perfect reminder for me!

  20. Tina did you write this post just for me? I’m thinking so.
I’m having a terrible morning and this is just what I needed to slowly but surely move my day in the right direction. Mwuah to you!

  21. Kat says:

I love this idea! it’s something I’ve been doing a lot of lately – just focusing in the morning and telling myself “today will be a good day.” Even if something less than desirable happens, I try to remind myself “today is good” – and you know what? the positive thinking works! either that or being pregnant makes it easier to persuade myself into happy thoughts 🙂

  22. It’s funny you posted this this morning because as I was getting ready, I actually said out loud, “Let’s make today a good day.” We have just been having icky weather lately and I was feeling exceptionally down about my job this morning, but I decided I was going to just try and make the best of my day since there was nothing I could do about going to work! Haha!

  23. I need an attitude adjustment today, so this post is perfect timing. I’m tired, irritated, stressed, and hormonal, and totally snapped at my stepson this morning, which makes me feel horrible.

It can still turn out to be a good day!

  24. That video of B dancing is the cutest thing I’ve ever seen!!! Hahahaha!

  25. What a great post for me to read this morning… I was feeling a bit blah for numerous reasons but reading this helped me to see the good things in my life! Thank you for the reminder Tina 🙂

  26. Maria says:

I hope M is feeling better!

I count my blessings. This morning the same old familiar, “I don’t want to go to work today” feeling emerged and I fought it by reminding myself how blessed I am. Then I called my mom and we talked Christmas plans. The perfect start to my day!

  27. Brittany says:

I Love this! Such a great post. I love your attitude Tina!

  28. Great tips! We used to say that attitudes are contagious quote when I was swimming all the time…it was our motto!

  29. This is a great post Tina! Thanks for sharing these tips. It is really good to be reminded.
