Irony For The Win

Posted: October 4, 2011 at 1:03 pm

I have a varied sense of humor. I get a kick out of immature things, like farts. I also love dry wit and sarcasm. I think irony can lend itself to some pretty hilarious situations. Unless it happens to me. Then, it’s just plain cruel. Double standard,  say what?

My last post talked all about making the day a good one and a signed off to merrily go on my way to my oatmeal breakfast. I opened the pantry to pull out our huge tub of oats and get to making said happy breakfast.

Well, clumsy Tina struck again and I had half a large tub of oats all. over. the. floor.

I wasn’t flying with Peter Pan and Tinkerbell and their happy thought induced fairy dust any time soon with the thoughts running through my head at that moment. My patience left for a moment as well and a few snappy words left my mouth when asking Makenzie to “Please JUST. CLEAN. YOUR. PLAYROOM!”

Keeping it real, folks. Keeping it real.

After snapping at M, I immediately felt worse and gave myself an attitude adjustment. Still no happy thoughts, but at least my mind wasn’t spewing filth and I wasn’t making my daughter cry. I calmed down and grabbed the broom ready to clean up the mess I had made.

Clean clean clean. Sweep sweep sweep. Oh…heck…NO! What the flip is THAT?!

IMGP1868-1

I came across some nasty little bugs that apparently had been hiding out in the dark corner of our pantry floor. There were only a handful, but enough to make me freak. I squealed. I jumped. I stomped around on all those little suckers. I held my arm out as far as possible to sweep up all the mess.

Side note: I also sent a picture to Peter because he wanted to see what they are. I used instagram on autopilot to email it to him quickly. I apologize if you follow me there and were graced with that lovely photo this morning.  End side note.

After my drawn out momentary freak out, I went on a cleaning spree.

I realized you can get a lot of cleaning done when you go full speed ahead for an hour. I swept, mopped, and vacuumed all the floors. I dusted and disinfected all the surfaces. I even scrubbed the bathtubs and shower glass.

IMGP1866-1

It seemed to be the only thing to shake the feeling of buggies crawling all over me. At least we now have a clean house from top to bottom, which puts me in a better mood. Well, except for this room -

It’s still a slight wreck…but whatever. I give her a free pass after this morning. Onto that good day, shall we?

  •  Do bugs gross you out or not bother you much?
  • What type of humor do you enjoy?

Hilarious! Can we say Mr. Murphy’s Law came to visit for just a wee bit?

I don’t particulary mind the bugs, I just hate it when they pop out of seemingly thin air at the least time I expect it. And, then I get shamefully squeally… and then embarassed for being “girly.” I was in the Army for 10 years and we ate bugs for breakfast. LOL.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

  2. Kelly says:

Nothing grosses me out more than cockroaches. Nothing. Those bugs are the nastiest, dirtiest things ever created.

True story…one year in college we went to this party at one of our friend’s houses and we ended up just spending the night over there. I slept on the couch and woke up the next morning with a cockroach crawling up my arm. It makes me shiver just thinking about that night!

    • Tina says:

Oh my gosh! I so relate! I am scarred for life from waking up with a cockroach crawling in my hair in 4th grade at a sleepover. Those things are just NASTY.

  3. pretty sure all of us get a kick out of the ol’ flatulance every once in a while.

    ….guilty.

bugs don’t scare me, but they definitely gross me out. I feel like the squish is the thing I hate the most. lucky for me, I have a puppy who likes to hunt bugs. 😉

  4. Ugh that stinks I am sorry! I spilled my oats all over the place last year in my dorm room and I feel like I never got rid of them. It stunk!

  5. Khushboo says:

Ohh man that is so totally something I would do! For what it’s worth, thank your lucky stars it wasn’t chias!

  6. Mellissa says:

I HATE bugs with a passion, and my freak outs are long and involve screams. Ick.

I spilled an entire bag of Trader Joe’s Harvest Grains all over the kitchen. That took me so long to clean up. Darn tiny pieces of grain.

  7. Jess says:

I don’t know what it is – but NOTHING irks me more than dropping or spilling something. Yes, it makes a mess, but even worse? It just throws me into a tailspin, usually happens when I’m in PMS mode but sometimes I’ll just have a clumsy streak and man, you do NOT want to see me when I get that way. It’s not pretty. PS. clean houses make me happy too 🙂

    • Tina says:

I have hit a clumsy streak today. You just wait until my post tonight. If I get one…after dropping my netbook.

  8. I love how much cleaning can be accomplished when going all-out for an hour. I can get my place nearly spotless in that amount of time, and love it!

  9. Bugs are NO fun…and neither is resume writing.

But at least this post gave me a little chuckle during a break!

  10. Oh my gosh I would’ve done the same thing. This is even grosser…ready…I was cleaning the shower last week (we have a stand up only shower, like yours but smaller) and where the glass meets the floor water has gotten behind the silicone seal and turned the inside (where I can’t get to b/c of the silicone) black. I assume it’s mold. Well…I was taking the plastic piece that goes under the door (keeps the water from seeping under the glass door onto the floor) off to clean it and no joke, WORMS came out. 2 small (like 1 cm each) black worms. I almost lost my sh&t. I started freaking out, immediately called my husband to tell him we were infested and ran to get the bleach. Needless to say, that bathroom got the ultimate scrub down for the next hour and I’m still freaked out.

    • Tina says:

EWWWWWW!!!!!! That sounds like something I would find too. I really need to be better about deep cleaning. Bugs gross me OUT!

  11. The smaller a bug is, the more it bugs me. Namely: fruit flies! I don’t like killing them, though. I prefer to let nature take its course. 🙂

  12. Ugh– living back in the south has made me remember how BUGGY it is down here!! I was writing at my desk the other day, middle of the day, and out comes a roach, just sauntering across my office floor. SO gross.

  13. jobo says:

Oh MAN I can relate to the bug thing right now…I have freaking fruit flies EVERYWHERE and cannot figure out where the eff they are coming from or why. I have cleaned top to bottom, not an ounce of food anywhere. I have bowls of beer (yes, beer!), red wine vinegar and soap suds everywhere because apparently, that catches the little suckers. Trouble is, they keep reappearing. Okay, end rant 😉 I get it! totally!

  14. Emily says:

I feel your pain. I just spilled a Costco/Sam’s Club sized bag of oats all over my dorm room floor. My dorm is a 9×9 box and I’m pretty sure the spill covered 75% of it. To make matters worse, it’s carpet!!! Oat dust everywhere!
I need to give myself an attitude adjustment too, thanks for the reminder!

  15. Ugh. Bugs. Ants are at it right now…but the bug that gets me EVERY fall is the stink bug. Do you guys get the raid every year in GA? Stink bugs are to me what spiders are to a lot of people…the jump on the chair, flip out, heeby jeeby shakes…yep. That’s me. I can’t stand them!!!

By the way…farts? Totally a dinner topic in my house. Maddie (who’s 2) got her hands on a jar of FLARP (remember that stuff?) that I bought as a joke for Hannah. She started making the poot noises…and walked around the house for two days asking, “Wanna hear my poooooots??”

    • Tina says:

Haha! Love it! The farts – not the stink bugs, of course. I don’t think I even know what a stink bug is to be honest though.

  16. Oh no!! Something similar happened to my roomie a few weeks ago that ended up with a whole box of penguin cookies all over the floor!

Bugs creep me out. Certain ones are okay but I absolutely detest earwigs and roly polies. *shudder*

  17. Tina! Oh no! What an awful morning. Though I am jealous of your motivation to clean the whole house. Want to come clean mine? I’ll even watch the kiddos while you do it. …No? Dang it.

Other random things: 1. I love your shower. As in, I want it in my house. Now. 2. I hate bugs and probably would have flipped out like a crazy person if that happened to me.

  18. Kat says:

eeek bugs! although I live in Florida so I’m a little de-sensitized to roaches (gross, but everyone has them – they usually only come out at night :/), but the worst — a few weeks ago we had a R-A-T! it was enormous (to me anyway!). Thankfully the hubby was home, and he wielded a weapon (aka broom) and chased it out from behind the fridge and was my knight in shining armor 🙂

my sense of humor is sarcastic. and dry 🙂

    • Tina says:

I would have flipped my lid if I came across a rat. Oh thank goodness you had the husband to help you deal with that one. I wouldn’t have been able to myself either.

  19. Ack!!! I would have screamed too, I HATE bugs, especially when they come out of places they shouldn’t be…like the pantry!!!

P.S. I am in love with your shower!!!!!

  20. Hilary says:

Earwigs…not a fan! And that oatmeal looks like quite a mess…reminds me of the time I once broke an ENTIRE BOTTLE OF BALSAMIC VINEGAR on the kitchen floor. Yeah. Not pretty.

  21. cheryl says:

    i LOVE your shower.

in my GA days, i’d RUN when i put my gym stuff in my car at night b/c there were often palmetto bugs lurking in the garage. and i once found one (dead) in my UNDERWEAR drawer. yeah, whole drawer dumped in the wash on hot….energy saving and fabric labels simply took a back seat to the “ewwwwww” factor and fear of more bugs (or bug eggs!!!).

  22. Bugs are so nasty! They belong outside, not in our homes!

I really enjoy sarcasm and childish humor. Fart jokes are all the rage in my house right now!

  23. um…i HATE bugs….last year I thought there was a fly in our house…it turns out we had rice moths! If you have never heard of this —please let me explain….there are moth eggs in rice. If you do not keep your rice in containers after opening…they can eat through ziplocs. Let me tell you it was horrible. There were hundreds in days. They apparently eat through boxes, plastic, etc.. Now….there is not one piece of rice in this house that is not in a container…. google it…it’s apparently very (scary) common….

    xoxo from Trinidad

  24. Oh yes, bugs TOTALLY gross me out. :)Yuck! Are your cleaning is inspiring me to get to wrok during naptime this afternoon. I’m so impressed with all you did! 🙂 Happy good day! 🙂

  25. Brittany says:

Sounds exactly like something I would do. I absolutely HATE bugs. I will scream and run away at the tiniest bug. So gross!!

  26. All bugs completely creep me out! I Just found 3 little bugs today too..and stomped the crap out of them 🙂

  27. gaaah I hate bugs! I would have been freaking out! We had ants in our pantry in the spring – it was NASTY!!

  28. Karen says:

Cleaning the playroom is one of my least favorite tasks. It only takes about .5 seconds for everything that I cleaned up to be pulled back out again! I try to encourage the girls to clean it with me at the end of the day but they get easily distract with their toys : )

  29. Bugs generally creep me out. Crickets don’t bother me. In fact, one startled me in my kitchen yesterday. I got a plastick container and an envelope. I picked it up and freed it outside. I can’t kill them.

  30. Coco says:

Too funny! This morning I could NOT do the dishes because there was a hairy bug in the sink. Luckily it was gone by tonight or we would have had to order take-out.

  31. Sara says:

So unrelated (and late) but I love your shower!!!
