The Biggest Emotional Rollercoaster
Posted: October 7, 2011 at 6:51 pmLife certainly has its ups and downs. I have highs and lows in my marriage. Peaks and valleys in my healthy habits. Surges and trickles in my devotion to my passions. Yet, only one can take the title of Biggest Emotional Rollercoaster EVER.
Drumroll please.
Motherhood.
Being a mommy will send your emotions through the wringer and make your head spin more times in a day than I thought could happen while still staying sane. Although, some may argue my head isn’t exactly screwed on straight. I hear ya. It’s not surprising when you consider the following…
Braedon caught Makenzie’s virus. When he gets sick, he has a very hard time breathing. The thought of your child not being able to breathe is enough to put you over the ledge of crazy-freak-out-worry-wart.
Breathing treatments have returned…
Then, you stumble across a moment like this and feel nothing but peace.
And thank heavens he decided to take a nap. It was a looonnnnggg night last night. Baby boy needed some rest even more than mommy needed a break.
Then, let’s not forget the other roller coaster that comes in the 28 pound package with blonde curls and way too much energy.
One moment I can find myself wanting to rip my hair out, even while praying for the ability to show the little terror some grace.
And suddenly she does something to melt your heart and make you forget the tantrum from mere seconds ago.
You want to know what she said? I love you THIS much, Mommy! It’s a circle. It goes round and round and never stops.
Putty. In. Her. Hands.
Emotional rollercoaster? Most definitely. Best ride of my life? You betcha.
- What’s an “emotional rollercoaster” for you?

oh my gosh – what a sweetheart. And Im sorry baby B is so sick right now! Teaching is definitely an emotional rollercoaster – as is being a wife!
Motherhood is definitely the most challenging, but most rewarding job ever.
The picture where you’re giving B a breathing treatment is so sad. You never want to see your baby so helpless.
My stepson both challenges me and makes every day the best ever. There are days where I think he’s driven me to crazy town but then he just wants to cuddle on the couch or help me make cookies. Love that little man. For people who wonder if having a baby is worth it? Yes, it is.
I’m so sorry your little guy is going through this! 🙁 Poor baby!!!!
Thanks for the honest post. I appreciate reading the “real” side of bloggers. Not everyone has a perfect relationship, perfect life. Life comes with lots of ups and downs (sometimes in a day) and it’s relateable.
Aww I hope Baby B feels better soon!!
Struggling with anorexia then BED has been an emotional rollercoaster for me. Somedays I feel great and other days I can’t handle life. But lately there’s been many more good days than bad.
And it’s all about thte progress. 🙂
M is adorable. I love that she knows that idea already.
Poor B! Hope he gets better soon!!
Emotional rollercoasater for me right now? School.
I can totally relate! It’s amazing what it does to your heart when they say they love you.
My daughter had pneumonia once and had to have those breathing treatments. It was so painful for me to have to do that to her! She hated it!
Awww poor Baby B! Hope he is feeling better soon. And with M…sigh. Sometimes I wish we could just skip to 5. 5 is WONDERFUL.
I feel you on the rollercoaster – but it is truly is the best ride ever!
Oh girl! My heart is with you! Hope little man feels better fast!
Awww, Braedon. I hope he feels better soon.
Makenzie’s metaphor for love is beautiful and pretty darn insightful! Toddlers are far wiser than we often give them credit for… You have such sweet little ones.
I’m so sorry to hear about Baby B! HATE to see children in pain or sick!
We had a doozy of a day too – teething related. I’m SO happy it’s finally 8pm and I can put them down for bed.
Oh my goodness, that has got to be the sweetest thing ever…it’s those moments I absolutely cannot wait to experience as a mom 🙂
You have such adorable sweet children…and I hope baby B feels better!
Great post, Tina! My biggest roller coaster so far is probably marriage, but I bet kids will top it.
I can’t imagine the toll that motherhood takes on your emotions. I just get emotional thinking about it.
Sorry Braedon is sick. Praying for a speedy recovery for the little guy.
I find being a wife and mother to be a roller coaster. Especially when pregnant!
Sorry you’re dealing with sick kiddos. That is the worst.
Oh my gosh! the emotional rollercoaster of pregnancy takes it all to a whole new level. LOL
I’m sorry baby Braedon is sick right now! I hope he feels better soon! And I feel like motherhood would most definetly be the most emotional/best roller coaster. I wouldn’t know right now but hopefully in the future I will! So for now, I’d have to say being in college!
Believe me when I tell you the most extreme full range of emotion is experienced being a mother and it does not end when they get older!!!! Being a mom wil teach you so much about yourself!!!
Aww hope he gets better soon! My siblings and I all had asthma so I am quite familiar with breathing treatments…definitely not fun. This was such a sweet post though! 🙂
I hope Braedon feels better super soon! I don’t know what it’s like to have a child feel unwell, but if it’s anything like having a parent unwell, it’s not a nice place to be in!
Poor baby B!! Hope he feels better soon. And M is just so darn precious! I’m beginning to understand what you mean about the rollercoaster… But I love it too 🙂
Truthfully the emotional roller coaster continues … my girls are 17 and 15 … and there is still the same pain felt when they don’t feel well and their faces revert to when they were young children helpless in your arms … then the worries of teenage years and teenage drama fills your day … and I have to do everything to stop myself not to charge the world in order to take care of those that have been unkind or unfair or those who want to stray them in the wrong direction … like others may have said … there is no biggest joy than what your little ones (because they always be little ones) bring!
Oh poor baby! i hope he gets better soon – not being able to breath is NOT FUN.
Tina- Sorry the breathing treatments have returned. I’m with you on the roller coaster of motherhood.Everyday is a new ride. I just LOVE your last line! 🙂 And Mackenzie’s circle? How cute is she? Hope your weekend gets better!
Oh no I’m so sorry your little one is not well, the breathing problems must be so scary! 🙁
It’s a beautiful post though, it is just so obvious that your children are loved above everything else 🙂
I hope I get to experience the emotional rollercoaster that is motherhood one day!
OH no! I’m glad B’s okay! Love those kids! and you too 🙂 Theey are so cher!
Lol! You are such a wonderful Mum – your honesty and love for your little ones just resonates off this page. Thank you for being so truthful, Tina – your openess is such a relief and a blessing! <3 I am so glad your litttle one is feeling peaceful now, and I reallypray he gets better soon. My relationship can be an emotional rollercoaster at times too – which I think is normal. Such a learning curve, being in a relationship, and making two lives one, but a beautiful mess, for sure! 🙂 xyx
I have to tell you, you always say it best when it comes to kids. I don’t know if it’s because mine are right around the same ages or if you just know how to express it.
Motherhood definitely takes the cake on the emotional rollercoaster ride. But, like you said, best ride ever!
I don’t know where the words come from sometimes, but they just flow when I write. It’s definitely the best comparison though in my mind. 🙂
