Body After Baby Month 9

Posted: October 11, 2011 at 7:20 am

Guess who turns 9 months old today?

IMGP1790-1

And guess who is on the move and  into everything??? Winking smile

I can hardly believe it’s been nine months since taking that ambulance ride through the “ice storm”. And nine months since I looked like this…

I must say that, as much as I appreciate what my body did for me in bringing baby B into the world, I also really appreciate how fit and strong it feels now. It helps me feel more like myself – not from a looks standpoint, but from a lifestyle standpoint. Plus, why wouldn’t I want this cutie out in the open with me to play with for the last nine months?

Okay, now that I have oohed and ahhed over Baby B enough, let’s get to Body After Baby! I debated doing this installment, because it’s not about making big leaps of progress anymore. I reached my happy weight. I fit into “The Jeans”. I wanted to focus on training for my half marathon and other fitness goals. And I didn’t want to come across as “Look at me! Look at me!”.

But Body After Baby isn’t 100% about losing the baby weight. It’s about showing the full journey of a post pregnancy body the first year after birth. I believe a woman’s body changes and reshapes itself a lot over that time. I want to document those changes and show the real post baby body journey.

So despite not focusing on monthly progress anymore, I still decided to go ahead with two last updates – one at 9 months and then one final one at a year. Here we go.

Month 9 Body After Baby

month 7 front IMGP1970-2month 7 side IMGP1971-1

Change Over Past 2 Months Overall Loss (since 1 month post partum)
Waist (Narrowest) - 0.5” - 4.50”
Waist (Belly Button) - 0.5” - 6.50”
Hips - 0.5” - 6.0”
Butt - 0.25” - 5.25”
Thigh - 0.25” - 4.0”

I notice two things:

a) Yep, I’ve been basically maintaining!
b) Oh dear goodness, girlfriend needs a tan!!!!

I truly believe the mentality that It takes 9 months to make a baby and it will take at least that long to get back to your normal. I also believe having that mentality can make the process more realistic and more achievable overall. It is possible, but it can (and likely will) take lots of time. That’s what I hope to show by sharing my journey.

I’ll be honest – I was a little nervous before checking in on whether or not I have actually maintained. From a personal standpoint, this check-in reassured me that I don’t need to overanalyze my decisions. I have learned what works best for me to balance a healthy lifestyle. I just have to stay consistent and trust my body. Focusing on the feeling of health will continue to carry me a long way.

Thanks again for reading my journey! Crazy to think only one more Body After Baby installment left now!!! Hopefully Braedon won’t work me too haggard chasing after him the next few months. Winking smile

  • Do you remember what you were doing 9 months ago?
  • Are you fair-skinned or do you hold a tan longer than a month? More than I can say for myself obviously! Ha!

  1. You look amazing! I hope that after I hae a baby, I’m able to at least look like I did before I got pregnant. Good for you, girl. You look amazing.

Nine months ago, I was doing last minute prep for my wedding and trying to shed the last few pounds to fit into my wedding dress. I can’t believe it’s already October!

  2. 9 months ago I was 5 months pregnant, so my body’s better now. 😉 But I did just do a comparison post, since I’m back at the same WEIGHT. That does NOT mean everything is back to wear it should be, so I hear you on recovery being more than weight!

And I’m so fair I never GET a tan in the first place. 😉

    • Tina says:

Haha! My tan in those pictures is probably half the yellow lighting in my bathroom to begin with. I feel ya on the fair skin.

And yes – it takes forever for the body to change. The weight may drop, but the composition takes forever.

  3. Katie says:

Looking good, friend! It’s amazing what dedication and perseverance can do for a mama’s body!

  4. RunEatRepeat says:

I can’t hold a tan. I just turn “less white”.

  5. Brianne says:

You look fantastic! I just found your blog a couple weeks ago and am really enjoying it. I have a 6 month old but haven’t lost any weight since 6 weeks post partum. I exercise 5 times a week for an hour (weight & cardio) and eat about 2200 calories a day and can’t lose the last 15 pounds. I’m 5’10 and prepregnancy I didn’t have to worry about my weight but I’d guess that I ate around 2400 calories. I’m also nursing and am getting pretty frustrated. Any tips?

    • Tina says:

I know nursing sometimes made me hold onto weight. I dropped at least 5 lbs almost instantaneously after weaning Makenzie. So, from my experience, some hormonal things could play into it. I also make sure to really focus on the quality of the foods I eat. It always made a big difference for me.

      • Brianne says:

I make all of my food myself and eat almost nothing processed plus lots of fruits and veggies. Hopefully I’ll drop a bit of weight when I’m done nursing too. Thanks!

  6. Ela says:

You have my admiration, both for your stellar attitude and for your body comp successes. Congrats–you look awesome!

I am also so envious of you. I just wrote a post yesterday about failing when you deserve to succeed: I have been working out _hard_ for eight or nine months and have basically no change to show for it. It’s very disheartening (and I know that the physiological issues I have play a part)–I wish I could see the progress that you are seeing! But I’m trying to turn it into something positive, both on my blog and in real life.
    love
    Ela

  7. You look awesome! After I have a baby, I am so going and looking at these old posts for motivation.

  8. You look so terrific, Tina, you are just amazing. Of course you received that wonderful little blue eyed gift, too. Excellent!

  9. Apparently when you were popping out a baby, I was trying to create one 9 months ago! LOL I have loved reading your journey! I have people continuously tell me that I will be back to my pre-baby weight in no time, but I am choosing to ignore their thinking because they don’t know that, and I don’t know that. I am definitely sticking by 9 months up, 9 months down.

Braedon is still as cute as ever! I can’t believe he is 9 months old already!

  10. You look fabulous and seem so incredibly happy and grateful. 🙂 Your kids are so stinkin cute. Love them.

Thanks for always keeping up with my post-baby progress as well and for letting me know you felt like you hit a bit of a plateau around 4 months too!

  11. janetha says:

    You are one inspiring STUNNER.

  12. Spring says:

Tina, you look fantastic! I’m so happy that you are content with where you are at and feel at home in your body. I lose my tan within 2.5 weeks. Goodness! 🙂

  13. Tara Burner says:

I hold a tan easily 🙂 apparent in my pics
and 9 months ago I was enjoying the ‘good life’ (had sold my biz and was traveling, enjoying life)
now….looking for a job (after a failed biz start up & losing a paying gig I had compliments of slow economy)

    and you’re looking awesome girl!

  14. Jenny says:

You look awesome! You’d never know you even had kids with that smokin’ body! I can only hope that a year from now I look that good again! This baby’s due at the end of Jan so I’m secretly wishing to have a bikini body by next summer.
I usually keep a bit of a tan year round so I am feeling awfully white myself!

  15. AmandaCG says:

You look freaking AMAZING! Your stomach is unbelievable!!!! Happy 9 months to Baby B 🙂

  16. catching up! you look FANTASTIC. if i can have abs like that 9 months postpartum i will be super excited 🙂 obviously it’s not the MOST important thing but it would be lovely nonetheless!
