Fair Game

Posted: October 17, 2011 at 6:51 am

Rise and shine!!! Trust me. I know it’s hard on a Monday morning. I’m feeling the pain of that statement right along with you. I even decided to sleep in an extra hour later than normal because I couldn’t peel my eyelids open.

Likely because I had such a fun-filled, but a little tiring, weekend. You already know that I ran a 15K race. Now, let me fill you in on the rest!

IMGP2157-1

I didn’t get any rest after my race Saturday. But I didn’t mind! We had a fair to visit!

The reason why I love the fall so much is easily because of the many traditions and activities we do together this time of year. This weekend kicked it all of with the annual fair in our area. Smile

Last year, I was pregnant and Makenzie was so much smaller, so we had big hopes of lots of excitement at this year’s fair. And it (mostly) lived up to it!

IMGP2161-1IMGP2162-1

You should have heard the excitement in her voice!!

Our first order of business though?

IMGP2166-1

We held off on an afternoon snack because we knew we would have to pick up one of these at the fair. Since it was already 4 o’clock by the time we got there, Peter and I were both hungry and ready to partake in our once a year maze of fried dough.

IMGP2167-1

And now I wish you could have heard the excitement in Peter’s voice. Winking smile

Once we shared that part of our little family tradition, we then got started on all the rides. Our first attempt at rides almost resulted in a meltdown. I thought my little M had reached 36 inches tall by now…but apparently not. She was not thrilled when told she couldn’t ride the kid train.

We diverted the crisis by finding all of the 30 inch tall rides and the ones she could ride with a parent. I think we made out well.

Poor baby B had to chill on the sidelines for it all.

IMGP2219-1

He didn’t seem to mind too much. Peter says he is going to be an engineer with how interested he was in all the machines.

IMGP2263-1

He had a taste of freedom at the end of all the ride fun. We spent our last bit of time at the fair, perusing the sights and displays.

IMGP2226-1

There were some interesting ones. Do you think I should have picked up some filet mignon and lobster for dinner at the fair?

IMGP2165-1

Or how about feather hair extensions?

IMGP2227-1

They did have some good finds, though.

IMGP2235-1

And I seriously wanted to give this little activity a try!

IMGP2218-1

That would be people in blown up balls. On water. Bumping into each other. It’s like water bumper cars but in a bubble! How cool is that?! Open-mouthed smile

Needless to say, we had a GREAT time. I think the overabundance of pictures can tell you that. I know I just picture loaded you. Allow me one more, though. I just love this one of Makenzie and I getting off a ride too much.

IMGP2193-1

I don’t know why…just feels like it captures one of those special mother-daughter moments so well. Now, I can’t wait to take her to Disney World!!! Although, the kid has to grow a good 6” first.

I hope you all had an amazing weekend as well! And here’s to making it a great week ahead. Have a good one. Smile

  • Do you have a special tradition food you get only at certain events?
  • Do you like riding rides? Low-key ones? Rollercoasters? Spinning ones?

  1. What a fun afternoon! I’m going to be at Disney in January if you want to show up then! 🙂

I swear, every time I see Braedon’s eyes I think about how he will be a heartbreaker!

  2. I love the fair!! It’s funny but I usually get popcorn. Even though its pretty common, it just seems like “fair food”. Glad you guys had such a great time 🙂

  3. Not really a fair food, but big in to mince pies at christmas and christmas pudding! I shall be making my own veganified and wheat free versions this year! 🙂

  4. Khushboo says:

I love fairs, it’s like they spray happiness in the air! I’m a bit of a whuss when it comes to rides- I refuse to partake in anything that goes upside down! I like my food IN me, not ON me!

  5. Katie @ Raisins&Apples says:

I miss having student discounts and going to fairs! I’ll always be a sucker for a caramel apple though

  6. I I love the picture of Makenzie in the Nemo ride. She looks so excited. It was quite brave of you to eat the funnel cake before the rides:) I saw those water bumper balls at the beach over the summer. My boyfriend’s mom said that she wanted to get them for her kindergarten students. When they had too much energy, she could just let them run around in the balls… like hamsters in a wheel.

that the Indiana theaters invlvoed will be Showplace East Cinemas 18 in Evansville, Kerasotes Showplace 16 in Schererville, and Kerasotes Showplace 12 West in Indianapolis. That last one sounds like the Traders Point Kerasotes, but on the Thursday night showtimes page for the Indianapolis-area Kerasotes Theatres, the only one with a showing of Stark Raving Black is the Kerasotes Showplace 16 and IMAX on the south side, which has one showing, at 8 PM.The other Thursday night event is an encore presentation of the RiffTrax gang taking on Plan 9 from Outer Space. This will be shown at 7:30 PM, October 8, at the Castleton Square 14, the Kerasotes 16 and IMAX, and the Hamilton 16 in Noblesville, along with theaters in Bloomington, Fort Wayne, Lafayette, Mishawaka, Schereville and Valparaiso. Go to the Fathom Events page for more info on this one.

  7. that looks like a great afternoon, and you’re kids are adorable!

  8. Lee says:

Glad she was able to ride some of the rides at least. I cannot believe they were selling lobster. Too funny!

I used to LOVE roller coasters when I was a kid/teenager. There was a big amusement park two hours away and going there was always the highlight of my summer. Now, I can take it or leave it.

  9. Brittany says:

How fun!! I haven’t been to a fair in ages or had a funnel cake! I use to love those things. Glad you guys had a great time. Your kids have the BLUEST eyes oh my gosh gorgeous

  10. katie says:

    Hello love!

Glad you had a fabulous weekend!

The fair is so fun!!!! Mike and I love the funnel cakes too! I got one last year topped with warm apples in a syrup, so good!

    Happy Monday!

The last pic of you and your daughter is SO precious!

  11. i love love love rides! rollercoasters all the way…and a funnel cake at the end of the day please 🙂

  12. Sounds like a great day! Beautiful pics 🙂

  13. Kelly says:

I LOVE fairs! It looked like you guys had a fantastic time! My favorite fair treat is a BIG preztel with the rock salt on it. That has been my favorite ever since I was a kid. My brother was always the funnel cake kid!

  14. That looks like so much fun! And can I just say how incredibly jealous I am that your fall wardrobe is jeans and a tank top? We’re already bundling up in Chicago!

  15. Chocolate covered strawberries! I only have them at fairs, that means only a few times per year. Sigh!
I don’t like rides, as I have a very (!) sensitive stomach and get sick very easily. In other words, I’m a whimp. 😉

  16. Melanie says:

    Your children are gorgeous!! 🙂
My favorite part of the fair is always the food – I’m a person that gets sick on even the less intense rides haha

  17. What a fun day! Ahh I love funnel cakes! Glad you had one. 🙂 I really enjoy rollercoasters. The spinny ones that make you feel like you want to throw up when you’re done I’m not so much a fan of. Makenzie and your little guy are so stinkin’ cute!

  18. Mellissa says:

Cotton candy at baseball games, I love it so much and only get it a few times a year and I enjoy every single fluffy bite of it.

  19. Amy Lauren says:

The pics are super cute :). I’m glad you guys got to go to the fair, but yeah the filet mignon and lobster sounds kinda weird, hehe. Don’t know if I’d trust that. Usually my husband and I split a funnel cake or something like that, we’re pretty tame when it comes to food at things like fairs.

Those hair extensions are REALLY big where I live. A lot of people are getting the pink ones for breast cancer awareness. As for the bubbles on the water, we have that in Myrtle Beach but it’s crazy expensive to do, I’ve never done it.

  20. Looks like you had a wonderful time at the fair! I’m not a very big rides person anymore as they make my stomach do loops and swirls. I could be a pretty good kid ride rider though =)

  21. Such wonderful photos! Looks like it was a really fun day for you and your family 🙂 Congrats on the 15K by the way! 🙂

  22. those water bumper balls are seriously awesome. i don’t even like fair/amusement park rides but those look great. 🙂 but i do love funnel cakes!

  23. Did you read Mama Pea’s post about styling Lulu’s hair so she could get on rides? Hilarious!! Your post made me think of that. Haha. It looks like you had so much fun!

  24. cheryl says:

apparently funnel cakes are super easy to make. at my BF’s family reunion event, an “uncle” makes them every year….really just like pancake-making according to those in the know….

of course, there’s always something about fair foods that makes ’em special so you can just ignore the info if you like!

  25. First of all, you are looking good Mama!!!

I kind of love little kids and pumpkin photos — so darn cute!

B has some huge baby blues!

DQ blizzards I only get on special occassions if that counts 😉 Usually 1-2x per year.

  26. I used to love the fair…I grew up in a small town and every year that was definitely the highlight. I love all the rides…so much fun! My husband is an engineer so he basically against all crazy rides…he assured me that the ride is unsafe…I assure him that we all are going to die sometime… LOL Next time you see the feather hair extension you need to go for them! They are fun! Maybe you missed my tryst with feathers –

I gave you a big shout out today… Thanks for being your awesome self!

    xoxo from Trinidad

  27. Looks like fun! 🙂 The picture of you and Mackenzie on the carousel- ADORABLE! 🙂 Hope you can get some rest this week. 🙂

  28. Aww, that’s an adorable Mommy/daughter picture!! Your children are so cute.

The bumper bubbles look amazing! I’m easily entertained by the idea of rolling around in a bubble.

  29. Oh man…I used to LOVE the fair when I was little– even though most of the rides made me (and still make me) queasy! Such a fun fall activity!

  30. Carly says:

That pic of you and Makenzie is too cute 🙂 She looks nothing like you *wink*

  31. Rebecca says:

That looks like fun! And I’m not usually much of a fair/amusement park person. I HATE rollercoasters. (I can’t even go over hills in a car without my stomach dropping.) Two of my friends convinced me to go on one with them when we were at the MOA a couple of years ago (they were handing out free tickets with different point values or something) and I almost lost my glasses. Not to mention it was just way too fast.
I used to love the ferris wheel, but for some reason now I’m always paranoid that I’m going to get stuck at the top or fall out or something. Ruins it. 🙁

Bumper bubbles? I wanna try that!!

I LOVE all the photos of the kiddies! That one of B in the stroller is great, and so is the one of you and M. You should maybe frame some of these… 🙂

  32. Kara says:

Cumming County…hahaha. Do you get to make a lot of jokes about that?

I don’t “do” rides. That’s my husband’s responsibility. All those hours of centrifuge training he had in flight school should count for something!

    • Tina says:

You would have loved the Cumming BJ’s Huge Blow Out Sale we had a couple years ago.

      Not. Even. Kidding. Hahahaha!

  33. Looks like you had a great time! I love that picture as well. Those feather extensions are all the rage!

  34. That looks like so much fun! (Especially the water bumper bubbles)

  35. What a fun way to spend a weekend with your family! Aren’t kids so fun when you take them on rides? I love how excited they get and it’s hard not to get into that excitement.
You and M are so cute! Love that last pic!

  36. I like the calmer rides but roller coasters have their place in my heart too 🙂

  37. Hilary says:

Yay fairs! My local fair was last weekend. There is amazing taffy there that I love and have to get every weekend.

  38. Melodie says:

Love the fair! Ours was a few weeks ago 🙂 I have to see that seeing your adorable kiddos realllllllly makes me want to have another one. I mean, teens and preteens are… interesting… but I LOVE the enjoyment and gratitude that little ones have… and not to mention the JOY 🙂 Glad you guys had a blast!

  39. Awesome weekend lady!! You deserved an extra hour sleep 😀

  40. You must live in a small town too. 😉 We just had our annual county fair less than a month ago. Its a big deal here, schools even get the Friday off!

I used to like riding the rides, but I think my old age has gotten the best of me…I get headaches now. 😛

  41. Oh my gosh your kiddies are so cute! What a fun day.

  42. Carissa says:

Awww! That looks so fun! I’m especially partial to the Nemo ride! Our fair came in May when i was a kid and I love the ride that spun really, really fast and stuck you to the sides!!!! 🙂 Now fair rides scare me…oh the innocence lost! 🙂
    Beautiful kids BTW too!

  43. What a fun day! Poor little M – looks like she fared (pun!) well anyway 😉
Tina you have gorgeous kids. I know I’ve told you before, but seriously!! And that last picture? You look hawt, my friend!!

  44. Hey! I had 2 of those feathers in my hair! don’t be hatin’…LOL 😉
    Looks like an awesome time!

  45. Kiah says:

That picture of you and M is adorable!! I’m with ya on the once a year funnel cake consumption–it’s one of those things that tastes perfect, but I know if I had it more often it’d lose that special glow.

  46. Lauren says:

Something about funnel cake at a fair is simply amazing. This year, I indulged in my first every pumpkin funnel cake. It was epic!

  47. Denise says:

It would have to be an Indian Taco at the Oklahoma State Fair.

I love the pic of your daughter in the orange fish.

  48. I love rides! I can’t really handle the spinny ones anymore though. I used to be able to go on the tilt a whirl time and time again, and now I just can’t seem to stomach it!
