Too Much Of A Good Thing
Posted: November 2, 2011 at 4:08 pmI have a slight obsession right now with tea.
Is it possible to drink too much tea? I find myself craving a cup of green tea to start my morning, a cup of Gingerbread or Sugar Cookie or French Vanilla in the afternoon, and then perhaps a cup of peppermint to wind down in the evening.
They say you can’t have too much of a good thing, right?
Although…could it be possible to OCD on holiday tea from last year? I hope not. I for sure won’t stop my habit, and you know I’m too cheap to throw it away. So, sip on year old tea I will. It still tastes mighty good!
This afternoon, I prepared a cup of the Gingerbread decaf tea for a little pick-me-up. While sipping, I perused the site Rock My Run for new race playlist ideas. That site is a gold mine. I came across so many songs that I kept forgetting to download!
I immediately hit up Amazon Marketplace and can’t wait to have some new tunes to power me through my half on Saturday. Speaking of which, thanks for all the support on the concerns I voiced earlier. You guys (<—rock). Just like my new playlist!
While I did add some songs by the likes of Pitbull, Rhianna, Katy Perry, and LMFAO for their perfect running beats, I also added some other favorite music – some of my favorite inspirational songs. People think Christian music is all gospely and sing-songy, but I have to tell you otherwise. You can find some really great beats with lyrics that can get you feeling stronger and more motivated no matter who you are.
Check out my favorites below and see what I mean by the perfect lyrics to give you that extra oomph or help you push through doubt towards the end of a run.
Tunnel (Third Day)
I won’t deny the pain that you’re feeling, but I’ll give you the hope you’re waiting for
There's a light at the end of this tunnel, Shinin' bright at the end of this tunnel
For you, for you, So keep holdin' on
Strong Enough – Mathew West
Well maybe that’s the point, to reach the point of giving up
’Cause when I’m finally, finally at rock bottom
Well, that’s when I start looking up
The Light In Me (Brandon Heath)
This path is sure too hard, You are the hope that leads me out of the dark
When Everything Falls Apart (Fee)
When everything falls apart and my strength is gone
I find you mighty and strong, you keep holding on
Burn For You (Toby Mac)
You got me higher than Kilimanjaro, Got me believin' I can "save the day"
I'm up and running like their ain't no tomorrow, I'd rather burn for you than fade away
Some other favorites for their great beat:
- Shine Bright (You Are The Way) – Jeremy Camp
- Symphony – Switchfoot
- Roaring Like A Lion – David Crowder Band
- pretty much anything Toby Mac
Apparently, I think you can’t have too much of a good thing when it comes to running songs either. I added quite a few to my library and I think I’m all covered! I’m trying to hold off on listening to a lot of it until race day. Have to make it special and extra leg-pump-worth.
- What’s something you have a lot of and makes you stick by the “can’t have too much of a good thing” saying?
- Where do you find ideas for music motivation? Do you like anything “different” than the standard pop or hip-hop?

Chocolate- can’t have too much of a good thing! I definitely find inspiration outside of pop and hip-hop; right now I’m on a real big country and 80’s music kick- Thanks to Pandora!
One More by Superchick and It’s Your Life by Francesca Battistelli are two more good ones.
Oh, thanks! I love both of those and had forgotten them.
If drinking tea is wrong, I don’t want to be right! I am actually drinking the sugar cookie one right now!! I love it! As long as I am drinking no more than 2 cafinated drinks a day I am good 🙂
I love music for running, and I like to listen to various pandora stations, but recently it’s been driving me NUTS because it cuts out all the time. I think I need to invest in a good playlist.
I generally try to pick out of my current music (alt rock) things that have certain keywords or anything I can use as motivation. My fav song is probably Pain by Jimmy Eat World. Part of the chorus is “It takes my pain away” and that really helps when I’m hurting.
Best of luck this weekend 🙂
For inspirational music, Natalie Grant’s “I Will Not Be Moved” rocks! I love that one. It’s my reboot on a hard day.
I’m so glad I found your blog recently. I love your posts!
Love that song! Thanks for reminding me of it!
Does country count as different? 🙂 I have looked EVERYWHERE for that sugar cookie sleigh ride tea and can’t find it anywhere around me. It haunts me every time I see it on a blog!
Just wanted to say that I like to listen to some Christian music when I run — I feel so emotional when I listen to it and for me running can be very emotional so the combo can be very intense.
I usually drink at least 3-4 cups a day, especially at work since my office is freezing. I think I have at least 5 different kinds in my desk and more at home.
Not trying to sound rude, but don’t you think “This afternoon, I prepared a cup of the Gingerbread decaf tea for a little pick-me-up. ” was a bit contradictory…? I mean after all, decaf means sans caffeine…so there wouldn’t be a pick me up involved.
Either way, I hear ya on the tea. I drink it year round and love it. And that sight is AMAZING!!!
I meant more the cozy feeling of having a cup of tea picks me up because it tastes good and I enjoy it more than the caffeine.
You can never have too much love in your life! And I love listening to music from broadway musicals :). Does that sugar cookie tea actually taste like a sugar cookie?? That sounds great!
It doesn’t really taste like a sugar cookie exactly but it does have a lightly sweet taste.
thanks for the new song reccs! i’ve heard some on the radio and will definitely check them out. 🙂
I’ve been on a crazy tea kick too with my pregnancy– it’s not coffee, but I’ll take it! 🙂
Brandon Heath!? Mathew West?! Can we just share ipods already? 😀
Love hearing others share the same tastes. 🙂
I love “Just like a Pill” from Pink and try to run as fast as possible during the chorus ( “Run just as fast as I can , To the middle of nowhere , To the middle of my frustrated fears “). Another good one when running on a steady pace is ” I still haven´t found what I´m looking for” by U2.
You know what? I don’t think I have that one from Pink yet. Need it!
I wish I liked tea! Hooray for new music. My iPod broke and I need to get a new one stat! I can’t get enough FRUIT!
I love tea this time of year, too. I can’t get enough of it. Even though I loveee Britney (guilty pleasure), I really like listening to accapella groups and Glee, because I really just focus on the music then when I run!
Love all your music choices! I just saw Switchfoot in concert! So amazing! I am loving their new album 🙂
Love me some Christian tunes and country! Also love some pop songs and even some ‘heavier’ music like Breaking Benjamin for working out. 🙂
If chugging tea is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
One can never have too much tea! I love Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride! I bought Gingerbread, but once I looked at the ingredient list I realized it contains toasted barley–bummer for us gluten free folk!
I love music! I’ll listen to anything, but I prefer alternative “punk” rock/”indie”!
We have several of the same teas:) I also highly recommend Republic of Tea for the cinnamon cardamon and the coconut cocoa tea. Yum.
coconut cocoa tea? must find some of that!
Oh that sugar cookie tea is such a winner! I drink 2 cups each day at work most days!
LOVE this list! Whoever says Christian music can’t be fun or easy to run to has no idea what they are missing.
Good luck in savannah, I am so so sad I won’t be there tto run and to see you!
I love matthew west. Such a good song! I’ll have to check out that site too! Goldmines don’t come often these days. So excited for you this weekend!
LOVE Jeremy Camp..he actually came to our Performing Arts Center last year..so good!
And I agree- you can easily find good Christian running music…download Cory Asbury’s Psalm 18!
Loooove Jeremy Camp – and one of my favorites right now is I Lift My Hands by Chris Tomlin – not really a running song, but I love it!
I loved the Celestial Christmas teas that came out last year. The Candy Cane Lane was my absolute favorite (I still have 3 boxes I’m slowly drinking through!). I bought the sugar cookie one too, and while I LOVE the smell of it, I don’t like the taste too much.
Tea is AWESOME for you. Never enough, I agree. Although- do you find that the sugar cookie tea takes FOREVER to steep? It’s always kinda watered down to me!!
I love the sugar cookie tea! It tastes like little sips of dessert!
I NEED to find those teas! especially the sugar cookie one! where do you buy them?
I have always found mine at Target or Kroger. Target seems to have a great selection, but it might not be out until closer to the holidays. Mine are from last year’s season. 🙂
On that note, I have taught an interval class at my church for years and rely on great, upbeat Christian music to work out to and I always love finding new uplifting, fast paced music! Even when not teaching those classes I still incorporate them into my classes at my local Y! Great job!
OHHH winter time=tea time! I get obsessed too!! I lov epumpkin spice and eggnog and also english breakfast and chai oh I could go on and on…oh ginger tea! 🙂 one of my favs
More than the tea (which I do love), I want the Oreo mug!! I can never OD on peanut butter..ever!
It may sound like a cliché but I can never have too much chocolate! 😀
Loving chocolate is never cliche! LOL
I definitely listen to Christian music when I run! Some favorites include Francesca Batistelli and also Newsboys (I like “Born Again”). TobyMac is good too. I’m glad to meet someone else who listens to it while running but also listens to secular music too.
I don’t really drink hot tea that much, but some of those sound really tasty. I got a Keurig so I usually drink that now :).
Good luck with getting music together for your half! And resting, resting, and more resting… oh and eating. That too!
Those tea flavors look so good! I have tons of fruit teas, but will be on the lookout for some of those other flavors…yum!
Great tips on the new music. Just what I need as I try to embark on the Couch to 5k plan again. I can walk for days, but jogging & running are WAY more difficult for me! Ugh!
Best of luck in your Half! You’re my hero!!
🙂
I drink a lot of tea too. I especially love black chai teas, but I fear all this tea is going to stain my teeth. Yipes!
I totally stockpile those holiday teas during the season so I can enjoy them all year round! 🙂
I am with you on the “anything by tobyMac” comment. His music is infectious, inspiring and gets me so pumped up! And good call on Burn For You – a favorite of mine as well! 🙂
There’s a tea called Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride?! Sounds like happiness in a cup. I need to find this.
Also, I’m definitely checking out that running music website. I usually just fill my ipod with the most upbeat songs in my collection, but some new additions would be nice! One of my personal favorite running songs right now is Beyonce’s “Run the World”…so motivating.
I loved this! I was just listening to tobyMac at the gym this morning!
I love all your music choices. I love Casting Crowns, Nataie Grant, and Mandisa, Francessa (cant spell) as well. They keep me going. I love worshipping Jesus when I run. 🙂 I will have to try some tea. I’m thinking sugar cookie flavor. Sounds yummy!!
