sometimes you just need…

Sometimes you just need…

…a good cry. My hormones drove me crazy this past week. I think they played a big role in everything I felt a few days ago as well. Or at least made it easier to let those thoughts bring me down at the time. Mentally, I felt much better by Wednesday night. Emotionally, I still felt off until last night. I popped in The Last Song and let the tears flow. Even though I didn’t feel upset about anything in particular, I just needed a good cry and felt much better afterwards. Strange, but true.

…to sleep in. Yep. I slept in until 7 am this morning. My body still awoke around 5 am but instead of just getting out of bed and using that time, I forced myself to stay in bed. I only dozed off and on, but I awoke with more strength and energy.

…to say no. Poor miss M did not like that I would not allow her to watch an extra episode of her favorite show. I stuck to my guns and said no. I ignored the tears, squeals, and pleas for attention from throwing things. She needs to learn “no” sticks to life like duct tape.

…to say yes. When Peter learned his work sponsored lunch wasn’t until next Friday I had no problem saying yes to an impromptu lunch date so my man wouldn’t starve. We went to Tacone, a specialty wrap cafe. I love this place! I ordered a wheat wrap wit fish, shredded cabbage, red onion, tomato, lettuce, pico de gallo, and cilantro ranch. Definitely worth saying “yes”.

…to sing at the top of your lungs in the car. On the way home from lunch I belted out all of my favorite songs that played on my favorite radio station. I listen to a Contemporary Christian station and praising God out loud in such a positive way truly uplifted me. One of my favorites -

…earplugs. While I sang, M tried to outdo me with her renditions of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and the ABCs. Let’s just say she has my genes and nails on blackboards sound better. It’s still pretty cute though. I’ll have to get a youtube video of that for you. :)

  1. And sometimes, you just need to put those headphones on and start singing that chalkboard-scratchin’ song out loud!

  2. sometimes you just need a beer. or a marg. or a glass of good wine. and that sometimes always tends to be on a friday afternoon :)

  3. LindseyAnn says:

1.Sometimes I just need __________: Sports! For me, there’s something about watching or going to a sports event and cheering my brains out that is invigorating and brings my spirits up! (Especially hockey-I’m a HUGE college hockey fan!)

    2. I’m actually really liking Taylor Swift’s new song, “Mine”. It’s just so upbeat and catchy, and the video is adorable! :D

I agree on the singing in the car, too! That was my rev up and wind down when I was student teaching–I had a 20 minute commute in to school, so I would crank up the radio and belt it out! It just feels awesome! :)

  4. I agree with ALL of these things. My boyfriend gets really worried when I cry (understandably so, because I used to cry ALL the time when I was anorexic), and I try to explain that every once in a while, crying HELPS me feel BETTER.

Sometimes, you just need: time with your friends, a swim in the pool, a walk with your sister. Anything that connects you to those around you!

  5. my body has been the same way as you! and i can relate to almost everything u said!! its crazy when u find out someone else is having a similar day and similar emotions.. definitely makes it easier on a person :)

right now i also need this hot tea.. and some good shows to watch on tv later <3

    xoxo

  6. Kia says:

to have a little fun. Stop taking myself and life so seriously.

Free by Zac Brown Band. Love the video and the words.

  7. Sometimes you just need to shut down the computer and head outdoors to grab froyo with the coworkers. Great mental break!

My favorite song right now is Taylor Swift’s Mine. I can’t help it, I love her :)

  8. Kati says:

Sometimes you just need to…get off work early and come home and veg. And watch tv. And update your baby registry ;)

My new fave song right now: “Unredeemed” by Selah!

  9. Mark says:

I totally agree that sometimes we need to cry. I haven’t always been a fan of letting my emotions run wild, but it can be such a relief to just let everything wash over you. This new-found sensitivity comes at the price of me not being able to watch certain movies, without becoming a blubbering wreck. My dreams of being a macho alpha male have been shattered :p

I normally listen to a lot of dance music, but some mainstream music will sometimes find its way onto my stereo. Right now I am loving Firework by Katy Perry :)

  10. Jessica says:

I loved that music video! Gave me goose bumps. Thanks for sharing it. :)

  11. Kelly says:

Amazing post and I couldn’t agree more on everything you’ve said.
Sometimes you just need to let it all out. Worries, frustrations, excitement… all of it. I need to do that right now!

Love the song you posted :)

  12. Kelly says:

Have something for you over at my blog :)

  14. Julie says:

The Last Song was the first “chick flick” Mai and I watched together. I’m almost sad that she really is almost old enough to watch these with me. She loved it! I loved the cute boy :-)

  15. Penny Lane says:

Some times I just need to scream and act like the Biggest dork in the world. ( acting like a dork usually included dancing badly, singing at the top of my lungs, and acting silly in generally) I have to admit the last one happens daily, but it makes me feel better everytime!

Anything by John Mark McMillan, Duffy, or on Glee! I can’t choose one song. Music is very important to my life, each season has its own sound.

  16. Lori Lynn says:

I’m reading the book The Last Song- Haven’t seen the movie yet, but I really want to.
My new favorite songs are NY2LA by Press Play (really good work-out song!), Light Up the Sky by The Afters, and Run, by Charmaine.

  17. A nap! Oh man i love naps in the middle of the day :) its like a tiny vacation.

  18. Felicia says:

a good piece of dark chocolate + peppermint tea + a blanket + my dog + a good movie. ahh :)

  19. Sava says:

Sometimes you need to be just a little bad.

Whenever I feel like doing something I shouldn’t, for example eating cheese or mowing down on some milk chocolate because its easier to find than vegan chocolate, I allow myself just a little bit of something bad.

Then I feel better and can get on with my life :)
Instead of breaking and going all out.

  20. Camille says:

    Chocolate!
    Wait, always you need chocolate!

  21. Lee says:

    Sometimes, you just need….a nap.

And coincidently, I’m loving the song “Sleepyhead” by Passion Pit right now.

  22. Sometimes I just need a day to myself with nobody asking me any questions, nobody asking me to do or get something for them, and nobody telling me what to do.

A “ME” day where I can do whatever I want uninterrupted, with no schedule and no agendas. :)

  23. Sometimes I just need a hug and sometimes I just need to be left alone. It’s weird. I love this post :)

    • Tina says:

I totally get that. On Thursday night I really felt like being alone but I know other times I just want someone to hug me and talk to me about everything. I guess its what makes us women so complicated. LOL

  24. Sometimes I need a nap and a snack…and then I’m good to go! I’m a 4 year old! lol

  25. Totally with you on the good cry. Man that can feel so good. I love this list by the way. Sometimes you just need a glass of wine too ;-) Also, sometimes you really need to turn off the computer and unplug. Hope you have a great Saturday!

  26. I totally agree with everything you said! For me it would be sometimes you just need to pause for a moment and slow down. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed and it helps to just take a breathe and realize that I’m going a hundred miles a minutes.

I love Eros Ramazotti’s songs (he’s an Italian singer) and right now I’m really loving “Tu Sei.” It’s one of his older songs but I’ve been listening to it a lot lately. :)

  27. You are so fabulous Tina…I love your honesty, your heart and how much you share on this blog. It is so genuine and authentic!

    You are FABULOUS!!!!

  28. Sometimes you just need…to veg out on the couch and do nothing. Relax, unwind and get lost in something for a while.

  29. homecookedem says:

I love Tacone! I just went there at the end of July with a friend. Their cucumber salad is amazing!!

  30. Sometimes I just need someone to talk to. It’s amazing how much better I feel when I can share how I am feeling with someone who cares! I am definitely loving “Just the way you are” by Bruno Mars :)

  31. Mellissa says:

Sometimes you just need a really good dinner out with friend, it has this amazing ability to erase stress!

  32. I need to be more patient with the actual “staying in bed”. Doesn’t it just make you feel like a lady of luxury?!?! Even just one hour makes all the difference…

  33. Sometimes I just need alone time. It feels good to get time to myself and to focus on what I want to do, without worrying about anyone else!

  34. sometimes you just need a hug from a loved one :)

I’m in love with this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfH2BY5pdLw
