30 days of self love – gifts of the body 3

Posted: September 17, 2010 at 9:00 am

Morning everyone!!! May all your dreams come true this Friday. Or at the very least, it be a good one and kick off your weekend right. 😉 In case you can’t tell, I’m still in such a good mood. I love happy days! Hehe.

Today brings us this week’s installment of the Gifts of the Body series within the 30 DSLR. Click for Part 1 and Part 2. We need to grow to appreciate every part of our bodies. We need to love them for the life they give. No part of our bodies is insignificant and we need to honor them. Find three new things to thank your body for today. Praise your body throughout the day. It truly is a blessing.

I thank my hands…

IMGP5616

for being able to hold little M’s hand to keep her safe. For having the ability to write/type quickly so I can do more of what I love and express my thoughts thoughts. For being able to cook healthy meals for my family, albeit not extremely well. For being able to caress my husband or rub his achy back and legs.

I thank my tongue…

[source]

for allowing me to taste and enjoy food. And also for helping me to speak. You are one powerful muscle because I know I can talk! For the record, there are a lot of unattractive tongue images on Google!

I thank my brain…

[Source]

for my creativity and knowledge. Even though you may not be as sharp after “pregnancy brain” has hit me twice, you still do not fail me. I can still make sound decisions. You can still guide me to answers. You provide me a pathway to pursue a passion for helping others. You help me remember special moments so I can cherish them. You help me communicate in two languages (Spanish & English) and do quick math in my head with ease. You were crafted by God to make me who I am.

What of your body (inside or out) do you thank today?

  1. I thank my legs for carrying me through an energizing run yesterday.
I thank my core for giving me the strength I needed during a yoga session last night.
I thank my arms for showing my love through hugs (a walking Hallmark card, I am)!

    Happy Friday, Tina

  2. I have never thought to be thankful for my tounge. But, how true? Imagine if we lived in a world where we had no tastebuds. How boring. Really makes you appreciate how food DOES taste doesn’t it?

I’m thankful for my fingers. They allow me to write letters to people to show them that I care.

    • Tina says:

And I love your letters!! Which reminds me…I don’t know if I ever thanked you for the birthday card. Sorry! I really loved it. 🙂

  3. Great post – you are so creative with thinking of things to thank! I’m like YES, never thought of that! Today, I thank my fingers for letting me type and blog! I type all. day. long – don’t know what i’d do without them!

  4. i am going to be a copy cat and thank my tongue for helping me speak words of encouragement and love to others and to TASTE delicious food!

  5. Angela says:

    My new 3:
    1) My sense of smell – my roommate has never had a sense of smell, and I recently read an article that said 90% of what we think we are tasting is actually scent. I don’t think I would enjoy food anywhere near as much as I do without it!

    2) My toes – for tolerating my super-tight-and-uncomfortable flats that I wore to salsa dancing lessons last night

    3) My biceps – when I was in Body Pump this morning, I realized they’re looking pretty good these days! 🙂

  6. Julie says:

After a week of being enlightened at the last place I would have expected: the chiropractor’s office…
I am going to thank my entire body for still standing after all I’ve put it through over the years…
…and I’m going to give it a thank you hug every day from now on…
by treating it so much better.

  7. I thank my mind for shutting off and letting me sleep like a rock last night 🙂

    TGIF!

  8. Oh I agree! I totally appreciate my tongue!!! Without it I couldn’t taste delicious hot sauce or salty chips… or healthy vegetables;)

    Have a wonderful weekend!!

  9. I thank my back for healing and allowing me to get back to walking and running without pain.

Glad your morning is off to a great start. It’ll be an awesome weekend!

  10. homecookedem says:

I’d like to thank my heart for always wanting the best for my family and friends, for always praying for others, and for the strong love I feel for everyone in my life.

  11. […] out this morning’s 30 Days post to share this week’s gifts of the body. Also, thanks for those of you who gave me feedback last […]

  12. Kelly says:

Today I thank my eyes for seeing the good in people even when there isn’t all that much to see. I thank my tongue for LOVING spicy foods and eating them as much as possible. I thank my ears for keeping out the negative and holding on the positive. Happy Weekend!

  13. I’d like to thank my lips for kissing my husband before going to work today. It always makes my drive to work very enjoyable 🙂

  14. My white blood cells for letting me keep the fives second rule.

My wrists for holding my ever present watch.

My calfs for being amazingly strong and looking mighty good on the rare occasion I wear high heels

  15. Nichole says:

OK this is fun! I want to thank my legs for carrying me throughout all of my obstacles and races – both mental and physical.

  16. Susan says:

Today I am thanking my poor, poor feet. They sure do get a beating. They have the weight of my body on them all day, take me walking, running, get crammed into shoes, and hold me steady when forced to stand on the streetcar home.

I thank my hips/hip flexors for staying strong through all I put them through. For reminding me when I need to slow down, but opening up for pigeon pose in yoga. They remind me that I need to listen and be nice to my body.

  17. I thank my new, long nails for making me feel feminine, and even more for making it easier to pick things up off of the ground! I love to pick up pennies (I feel bad that they are so oft neglected), and now I can do so easily. Also longer nails mean I can take up a new nail painting hobby AND BEST PART I can scratch my boyfriend’s back like 2000 percent better than before.

I thank my heart for, physically and emotionally, carrying me through a most excellent and exciting journey.

I thank my brain for always keeping me on my toes. And my toes for never failing me.

  19. Penny Lane says:

Thank you to my brain that provides me with those ever witty comments, but also doesn’t present those comebacks until after the situation is over so that I can not get in trouble for my wild tongue.
Thank you to my tongue for aiding me in speaking and helping me to taste all the delicious things that my hands and mind have created.
Thank you for my back, Though you sometimes cause me pain as I cause you pain I am thankful that you give me the ability to stand, carry myself as well as lifting and hugging the little children who sometimes just need a hug.

  20. Ela says:

    Hey there,

I’m still here today! And I wrote a post about some more body parts – it was very hard for me today because I’m feeling yucky about myself all over, so I was grateful to do it!

  22. Shannon says:

I love the tongue thanks. I never would have thought it but how true. Thanks for letting me taste delicious food, speak words of encouragement and voice my own strong opinons, sing along with my radio in the morning to get going and give me something to chew on when I’m nervous or anxious.

Thank you to my lungs for adapting to my C25K program and for letting me run further yesterday with a little bit less breathlessness. Yay for being able to improve my endurance.

Thank you to my beautiful, curly hair for being low maintenance and easy to take care of and still awesome.

    • Tina says:

Congrats on improved endurance. I’m not the best of runners either and I know what an accomplishment that feels like. 🙂

  23. Three new body parts to love. This is getting harder.

Stomach. For letting me know (if I listen) when to eat, and when to stop. Its rumbling is letting me know it is time to eat right now.

Skin. It is far too white (it is fading so fast this fall I’m beginning to think it didn’t see any sun this summer), blue veins are appearing on my left lower leg, and right now you can easily see every shade of black, blue and yellow of each bruise I obtained helping people move this week but I have been lucky to have fairly flawless skin most of my life.

Heart. Steady and strong. Caring and compassionate. Easily shared and thus easily broken. Here’s a heart poem/quote I wrote…

The light of my love shines through the cracks in my heart, radiating with the wisdom of its brokenness. Only in giving ourselves, despite the certainty of heartbreak, can we truly live. If we never take the chance to choose love, our heart remains whole, and the light of our love, trapped in darkness, suffocates and dies.

Here I go, rambling again…and I promised myself I’d be brief!

  24. Holly says:

    I love the baby/tongue picture!

Today I am thankful for my hands….I am getting ready to do my first Habitat for Humanity build – so hopefully they will come in handy (pun intended). 😉

  25. Today I am thanking my wonderful feet for reminding me that walking is a great exercise even if I can’t run.

And I’m so grateful for my nose that can remember the smells of my hometown even though I haven’t lived here in 11 years.

  26. […] this is getting harder. Gifts of the body #1 was bad enough; then came #2; and now it’s #3. Imagine how much I will struggle when I get to the fourth and  final one. I’ll have run out […]

  28. […] Today’s reflection on self-love – back to body parts! Argh… I’m not feeling good about myself today, just generally out of sorts. Been working too hard, getting anxious about our trip to Oregon that’s coming up so soon and all the chores still to do here before everything freezes. […]

  29. Xandria says:

I’m thankful for my tongue for allowing me to enjoy food some much and for not being discriminating in taste.
I’m am thankful for my stomach for still having a high metabolism and for keeping my food down and not giving me digestive problems (yet). Hahaha.
I am thankful for my heart for always beating, even if sometimes it feels like it’s beating in a strange rhythm. And even though a lot of people don’t believe this, I believe the heart can actually feel emotions. And mine feel extreme love.
    🙂
