it has never felt so good to sit

Posted: September 26, 2010 at 5:11 pm

Oh. My. Goodness. This weekend completely exhausted me! I don’t think I have taken a break since Friday afternoon at 4 pm. This weekend would certainly fit under the “fun” aspect of how I live a fulfilling life, but I need some empty hours this evening. Which is why I plan to sit around, have my legs rubbed, catch up on blogs, and well…pretty much nothing else the rest of the night.  Get ready for a fairly picture heavy post. Sometimes those are the best though. Don’t you agree?

I spent Friday afternoon/evening at my friend’s rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. The rehearsal part went smoothly.

IMGP7147

Then, we headed back to her parent’s house for the rehearsal dinner. They had a tent set up outside, which was beautifully decorated.

IMGP7153 IMGP7154

And some family friends who do Italian cooking catered the event. I had some lasagna, salad, and a roll.

IMGP7173

Taking cue from my post on Friday about not overeating in social situations, I only ate half the lasagna to save room for dessert. A mocha mouse in a dark chocolate cup. It was tiny, but soooo rich it filled me up.

 IMGP7174

After giving my toast (which I totally came up with on the car ride over) and mingling for a few hours, I headed home and crashed. Simply to wake up early Saturday morning to go ahead and get some things done ahead of time for the remainder of the weekend. At 10:00 I had my hair appointment for a cut, 2nd coat of color to go back natural, and a style for the wedding.

From 3:00 on, I was on my feet and doing the wedding. My friend looked absolutely stunning.

IMGP7220

The venue had such Southern charm, even down to the meal. The buffet featured a wide variety of Southern style casseroles and soufflés. I took a sampling of a baked macaroni & cheese, sweet potato soufflé, salad, green beans, and a roll.

IMGP7250

Of course I loved on a piece of cake later that night as well. I forgot to snap a picture of my slice, but here is the complete cake. It screams my friend’s style.

IMGP7194

Then, I danced the night away with the abundance of great company at the wedding. We really celebrated! Some of us a bit too much with the open bar. Not me, of course. 😉

This morning I awoke thanks to two brutal charlie horse cramps in each of my calves. My legs hurt soooooo badly after being on my feet all day and dancing. I felt like I had run a marathon! Or what I think I would feel like after running a marathon. Basically, I hurt and I hurt BAD.

That didn’t stop today from going though. I had to lead Sunday school in the morning, attend worship service, and then head to a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese. Thankfully, we had an hour to kill between the party and church so we stopped for a sandwich lunch instead of the nasty Chuck E Cheese pizza. Then, I about lost my mind in the madness of Chuck E Cheese.

I will give them credit that it was much cleaner and nicer on the inside than I anticipated. However, I will never voluntarily go there if I don’t have a very specific reason. The place was a mad house. I couldn’t wait to get out of there. And that pizza – blech! My insides appreciate eating a better quality lunch beforehand.

Now…I’m beat! See you tomorrow for one of the last few posts of September’s 30 Days of Self Love. This month went by so fast. Check out the other posts from this weekend if you haven’t already – Gifts of the Body 4 / Numbers Don’t Matter.

  • What did you do this weekend?
  • Have you ever gotten those charlie horse cramps? How do you deal with them?
  • Lastly…how the heck do you spell mouse/moose for the dessert?

  1. oh my gosh you look so gorgeous in that red dress! (laaaaaaaaaaaaaady in reeeeeeeeeeeed!) get some rest girl 🙂

  2. Mousse! 🙂 Charlie horse cramps are the worst! I usually stretch them out as best I can, and then swear to consume more friends higher in potassium.

  3. Ditto to Heather’s comment. You look stunning! Glad you had a fun weekend, but yes, I’d want some downtime if I were you!

  4. Mousse for the dessert 😉 When I danced, I got charlie horses more often than I care to admit. If I get them now, it’s b/c I’m dehydrated. There’s really not much you can do other than try to massage them. Ouch is all I can say ’cause I know how bad they can hurt. I love that first pic of you – you look so happy! Rest up sweetie!

  5. homecookedem says:

Love that red dress on you!!

So I hadn’t gotten any charlie horses during pregnancy yet… until last night I almost got one while stretching my legs out in the middle of the night but felt it coming on and relaxed my legs completely before it could get me. My friend who’s pregnant (a week behind me) is getting them all the time now! Andrew gets them a lot too. I’ve heard it’s from not drinking enough water earlier in the day. You were so busy and on your feet all day, I wonder if you just didn’t get enough water combined with tired legs. I hope you don’t get them anymore, they are no fun!!!! 🙁 If you do though, I’ve heard getting up and stretching is the best thing for it.

Get lots of rest tonight and put those feet up!! Rub the belly for me!! 🙂

    • Tina says:

And rub your belly for me too. 😀

Good point. I know I didn’t get in enough water those days. I normally guzzle a gallon a day. At least. I was soooo thirsty on Saturday.

  6. Lee says:

Love that cake. It’s so pretty.

Get some rest! One of my good friends has a 2-year old and has told me horror stories about Chuck E. Cheese.

  7. Kristie says:

I have been getting charlie horses a lot lately (not pregnant, I just get them), and used to get them a lot back in high school too. I’m going to echo some of the stuff on here – they can come when you’re dehydrated or low on potassium. When I wake up with them I immediately either drink a small glass of OJ or eat a banana (whichever one I have in the kitchen usually) and can feel the pain go down a ton!

  8. busy busy lady! Love all of the pictures – that red dress is fabulous and so is the wedding cake!

I get them sometimes – I usually just cry and try to massage it out… which never works. SAD. They are SO painful.

This weekend we CHILLED. It was awesome. And we went to a beerfest/sleepover party last night!

  9. Emily says:

What a beautiful wedding, love the cake, so fun!! I looove dancing at weddings, you can bring out all the great moves including my favorite versions of “mom dancing” (not mom like your age, mom like our mothers ages, etc); the slow swaying just to the beat, nothing too crazy 🙂 Rest up, can’t wait for the next few days of posts!

  10. Where do I begin?

That pic of you in the red dress? BEAUTIFUL! I love the candid nature of it, and you look so calm and serene. Who knew you were having such a crazy weekend?

Ok next. That mousse cup? WOAH. Can I have one?

And finally, Chuck E Cheese. Talk about a crazy end to the weekend! M looks like she was having a blast. I wanted to take the little boy I nanny for there, but his mom wouldn’t let me 🙁 Maybe that was a good thing.

Have a relaxing evening! You deserve it!

  11. Pregnant or not, your calves can’t take that much with a wedding! So much standing! Sorry about the legs. I hope they feel better. I detest Chuck E. Cheeses, but the kids seem to love it…the atmosphere, not the food. YUCK.

The word is mousse…and yours looked delicious! Get some rest tonight Tina.

  12. Good for you for taking time to relax… I did the same thing tonight too. I watched an episode of Grey’s Anatomy online. Sounds simple, but it’s hard for me to just sit. And let myself relax. It’s important to rest and recharge!

  13. Is it mousse?? However you spell it, your looks divine! I could go for some of that. Those charley horses are killer!

  14. Aw- the wedding looked like so much fun! But exhausting at the same time… lol

  15. I really like that wedding cake. Very pretty and fun.

I know what you mean about busy weekends. It’s good to have fun activities scheduled, but sometimes relaxing and doing nothing is the best. Hope you enjoy your evening! 🙂

    • Tina says:

I like when I have something fun on a Saturday…then time to just chill at home the rest of the weekend. Those weekends are always the perfect balance to me.

  16. Lori Lynn says:

Sounds like a really fun weekend! I was able to take a walk/run on a trail, and I got caught up on some organizing of my new apartment I moved into.
I eat a lot of banana’s, and I think that helps with the charlie horse’s, but it’s hard to tell b/c I don’t get them very often.

    • Tina says:

I think I’m going to start incorporating more bananas into my life. I almost got them again last night…even after being sure to guzzle tons of water. 🙁

  17. Wow! That WAS a jammed packed weekend! I love that picture of your daughter against the glass – too cute! Kids definitely have the best excitement faces :-D. Your friend’s wedding cake was gorgeous! And that mocha mouse dark chocolate cup is making me drool :-P. Hope you get some good rest before Monday starts again.

  18. Tina charlie horses are the worst!!! I got them all the time when I was marathon training — I’d wake up in the middle of the night bucking and kicking because of the pain. Poor Jason got kicked quite a few times. What helped me was foam rolling my calves — after that it never happened!

M looks WAY too excited about Chuck E Cheese — I remember going as a kid and being terrified!

  19. Thanks for the comment! That wedding cake is so pretty! Make sure you’re drinking enough water to deal with those cramps. I swear if I’m ever cramping up, water is KEY!

    • Tina says:

Thanks for stopping by! 🙂 I love connecting with new blogs and making new friends. And my legs did better after drinking up a lot of water, but they still felt on the verge most of the night. I hate those things.

  20. chelsey says:

Ahhh Chuck E Cheese! It kind of scares me – pizza and all! 🙂 Your friend’s dress is gorgous! Glad you had a great weekend!

  21. Eliza says:

What a great photograph of you! I love weddings- sounds like a fun one. Our weekend was much quieter, especially compared to Chuck E Cheese (which I have to admit, sounds like my personal hell).

  22. You looked fantastic! I had a quiet weekend but fun with friends. 🙂

  23. Becca says:

I LOVE that picture of you in the red dress. And that cake is really cute!

Oh, good gravy. I went to CEC (I think that’s what it was; something like that) once with my cousins, and it was ridiculous. I’ll avoid it if I can.

Yesterday I worked and went to a church fun night. Today I went to church, hung out at home and baked cupcakes, and went to small group. 🙂

Charlie horses are something I don’t get too much, and I think the only reason I would would be if I was dehydrated or something. I hate them, but I’ve found that moving gets rid of them quicker. Last night at the church thing, our pastor got a cramp and I told him to get up and walk. (He didn’t, of course. :P) My friends would always tell each other to walk them off and/or massage the area.

  24. sophia says:

    lol! It’s mousse.

And chuck-e-cheese…never been there, but don’t wanna from what I hear from you.

I didn’t realize dancing is that much of a workout, because I know you’re pretty damn fit! You looked gorgeous, though!

    • Tina says:

I think carrying around quite a few lbs of baby and baby byproduct made it a bit tougher. LOL I seriously was so beat I couldn’t believe it.

  25. Uninvoked says:

At least you had an unforgettable weekend. Don’t you hate those ones that seem to slide by without anything happening at all?

    • Tina says:

Oh yes. Those are the worst. When you blink and its Sunday night but can’t even remember what you did to fill the time. I hate those!

  26. Erica says:

Aww- looks like so much fun! She had great food at both the rehearsal and the wedding itself. Love love when they do southern food (with an elegant touch). I hope you got in LOTS of rest last night. This weekend was lots of family time & teaching.

  27. The wedding looks SO fun. I love weddings. I just love love 🙂

EW Chuck-E-Cheese. Haven’t been there in years, but yeah, gross!! At least the kids probably had fun!

    It’s mousse, btw 🙂

Hope you have a great start to your week!

  28. YUM!! that food looks so good! what a beautiful glowing picture of you! wow, I love taht 🙂

I HATE charlie horses, they happen to me sometimes riding on jasons motorcycle for a while in one position, I have to get up an stretch lol

I think its Mousse!? or is that hair mousse? haha I have no idea!!

  29. You look absolutely glowing in that top picture! Love it!

    Mousse??? 🙂

  30. Nichole says:

Can’t believe September is almost over:( HOW gorgeous do you look in that pic, beautiful!

Love the kids at Chuck E Cheese, priceless. I wonder if it still smells the same as I remember, lol.

  31. Lauren says:

You look glowing and gorgeous in your red dress – love it!

I hate charlie horse cramps. They are soo painful when I get them. I read something online about them being caused by dehydration, so I try to drink more water if I get one. I usually have to flex my foot and massage my calf muscle like crazy to get rid of it. There have been times my calf was sore for a whole day afterwards because the muscle pulled so hard. Ouch.

My weekend: working on Sat. morning, going to an outdoor theatre production w/hubs Sat. night, pancake breakfast and church on Sun., and pretty much all day Sun. chilling with lots of magazines I needed to catch up on – it was great 🙂

    Mousse for dessert 🙂

  32. At least you had an unforgettable weekend. This posting is marvelous and what a fantastic research that you have done.
