the best and the worst

FFF Featured Blogger (chosen from your comments): A Girl and Her MuttErin blogs about her life with good food and fun ideas all in the mix.

First of all, I want to thank those of you who commented on last night’s post. I appreciate every single word and all the support you all provide to me on a regular basis. Like I said, there was no rhyme or reason to those emotions yesterday, except the fact that they simply surface time to time. I have learned I can do nothing but ride them out and fortunately, by recognizing them, they usually disappear within a day. I felt better by the time I posted last night, and woke up feeling normal and cheery today.

Although, perhaps my cheery mood comes from two of the best feelings in the world happening last night/this morning. 1) Makenzie slept through the night again for the first time in weeks! The little booger wakes up asking for water or just climbs out of bed to come say hello at least once typically. She goes back down easily, but I never enjoy the interrupted sleep. 2) When you wake up and think its about time to get up for the day, only to look at the clock and see you still have a few hours left. I love when that happens! I seriously believe it is one of the best feelings in the world. Other best feelings?

  • when your kiddo looks into your eyes and says “I love you, Mommy”
  • when you have a great workout
  • a freshly clean house
  • a good cup of coffee
  • checking things off a to-do list
  • not turning to food for comfort
  • being able to shop in your closet because you are back to pre-pregnancy size (I cannot wait for this! actually I simply long to no longer feel like I’m about to explode from my stomach)
  • the feeling after being able to “let it all out” when your stomach hurts or you feel nauseous – gross I know, but its fresh on my mind

That, of course, also made me think of some of the worst feelings.

  • when you’re already running late and then hit lots of traffic
  • when you get a stain on something the first time you wear it
  • when you’re waiting for an important/special phone call and it is always someone else on the other end
  • writer’s block
  • figuring out what to buy family members you rarely see for Christmas
  • that I still have 2.5 to 3 months left of this pregnancy…HOW?
  • that it is National Love Your Body Day and I promised myself I wouldn’t complain about my aching pregnant body today, but already have…twice…just in this post….oops!

So, here’s to a day hopefully filled with the best feelings and none of the worst. I think I’m off to a pretty good start.

  • What are some of the best/worst feelings you can think of?
  • How do you plan to love your body for National Love Your Body Day?

  1. Best: when you have a great run, your crazy recipe idea turns out to be delish, warm sunny days.

Worst: cold rainy days, stressful work days, feeling super rushed, forgetting an important item on the grocery list.

  2. best:

that *high* I get from running… when I get into my rhythm and could go forever…

    when I make Jason laugh.

when Basil comes to snuggle with me.

    a delicious sushi dinner.

I already told myself I’m only going to focus on the positive today…

    🙂

  3. I love the pic of you in the mirror with the coffee. Looks like me this morning.

I’m just going to focus on the best feelings for now 🙂

    Best:
    Finishing a run
Waking up thinking its a week day and it’s really Saturday
    Hearing a child’s belly laugh
Getting a call from your husband and still feeling excited after all the years
Looking in the mirror and smiling (and meaning it)

    Have a great day!

  4. Starting with the Worst so I can end with the best 🙂

    Worst Feelings
-I have to agree with you on getting a stain on something the first time you wear it. I just poured coffee on my new white scarf 🙁
-Going to the dentist (especially when you find out you have cavities…)
-Planning on going to bed early but tossing and turning for hours
-Wanting a great workout but getting a cramp or feeling pain

    Best Feeling
-Enjoying a cup of hot coffee first thing in the morning
-Not drying or putting effort into doing your hair, but turns out you’re having a great hair day
-Really good conversations with friends you haven’t seen enough
-Wrapping myself in my snuggie on my couch after a really long day at work
-Physically feeling STRONG (a new thing since I love cardio but hadn’t been doing any strength training until recently…)
    -Scratching a really intense itch
-Waking up each morning knowing it’s a new day and you can make it whatever you want. 🙂

    • Tina says:

I love some of yours! Especially the snuggie one. I don’t have one but I love just curling up on the couch after a long day with a blanket.

  5. How precious is M?!?! I cannot, absolutely cannot wait for the day that we have a little one. It isn’t time yet but when it is..I will be the happiest gal alive!

Like Jamie I want to focus on the BEST today in honor of National Love. 🙂

    – warmth of the sun coming through the windows
    – cup of homemade marsala chai
    – favorite tunes blasting during a workout
    – that high, you can feel it in your chest, in your throat and your heart when you are pushing during a workout!
    – a note from a friend that you miss
    – morning snuggles
    – crisp fall air
    – a rainy day full of books, movies and popcorn
    – LOVING MY BODY!

  6. Angela says:

    Love this!
    Best feelings:
    – Post-run or post-workout when the endorphins are running strong
    – Having a crush on a boy
    – Receiving compliments
    – Doing nice things for other people
    – Getting all green lights on the way to work (especially when you’re running late!)
    – Enjoying just the right amount of a great meal

    Worst:
    – Guilt
    – Regret
    – Sadness

  7. Best: Snuggling on the couch, under a blanket, with hot chocolate, while it’s snowing

Worst: Obsessing over the fact that you know you stupidly caused someone pain and can do nothing about it

  8. Dorry says:

I love that pic of you in the mirror with your big mug of coffee. 🙂 I’m loving my body today by starting this morning with a training run and eating healthy, delicious foods throughout the day. I’m also wearing my favorite jeans that used to be too big that I’ve happily grown into over the past 2 years. 🙂

  9. Becca says:

Glad you’re feeling better today Tina!

    Best feelings:

Finally confirming my christmas vacation to see my family
    completely a tough workout
getting to talk to my nephew on the phone

    Worst feelings:

    Running late for anything
    long pointless meetings
craving something and realizing your out of the good to make it! lol

  10. Best: when you are incredibly worried about a test and you get an A.

Worst: the feeling of dread and axiety before you take a test.

Obviously, school is always on my mind now.

  11. Love this!! Your best things were on the money – I heart crossing things off a to-do list and enjoying a clean house. I also like that feeling right after a hot shower, getting in clean sheets with still-wet hair. Bliss!!

Worst: Definitely had me on the traffic one. Or realizing you don’t have your cell phone before you board a plane. Or realizing you’ve lost cash/debit card/license/etc. – really just losing important things in general!!

  12. Courtney F says:

    Best:
Having your daughter start to acknowledge you.
Feeling amazing after a hard workout.
Being ahead of schedule getting back into pre-pregnancy jeans.
    Finishing a book.
    Worst:
    Not understanding something.
    Being rushed, at anything.
    Getting lost.
    Hurting someone’s feelings.

  13. I plan to love my body by taking a bath tonight and getting to bed early. That is what I need!

    Best:

Waking up before the alarm goes off, giving you enough time to snuggle with your husband for a few minutes before its time to get up.

    Worst:

Taking an alternative route home only to find there is road construction there and you have to drive your original route — but you’ve already wasted 20 minutes. Anything traffic related just sucks the life out of me!

  14. Worst is when I get up and get going early, but the boys won’t move so I can get them to their extra curricular fun stuff on time!

Best is when we get a day off on the weekend and the weather is perfect!

    Have a great day Tina!

  16. Mellissa says:

    Best-

    A great workout
A good glass of wine 🙂
    A clean house
A cuddle with the dog and husband

    Worst-
    Headaches from work stress
    My moron boss
    Being tired and hungry

  17. Mandy says:

Oh I made it early enough to contribute 🙂

    Best feelings…
    -after a good workout
    -a hug from your child
-snuggling on the couch with hubby
    -laughing so hard it hurts
    -someone saying thank you
-right after you get your hair done!

    Worst feelings…
-agree with you on the being late and hitting traffic!
-eating something because it seems like a good idea…and then feeling gross about it
-missing a friend or family member’s birthday on accident
    -being hungry LOL 🙂

  18. Jess says:

Realizing you have more time to sleep is the best ever!!

  19. i love the feeling of my puppies coming to snuggle with me…i feel so special 🙂 not quite the same as kiddos, but it’s perfect for now 🙂

  20. Best feeling: a rainy day and nothing to do but watch a movie and drink coffee

worst feeling: rainy cold day and having to go to work

  21. Best –
Newborn baby milk breath (after nursing). If I could bottle that smell, I would. It brings instant calm and contentedness to me. I also love that milk-drunk look on babies faces when they are just fed and falling asleep. How cool that you’ll get t experience that again in a few short months!!
A piece of real mail – a card, package, postcard – from a friend
A fresh cup of hot tea and the chance to drink it all before it gets cold.

    Worst
Snapping at your child and then realizing, they are just acting their age and you most certainly are not. Actually, snapping at anyone you love and realizing they don’t deserve it.
Traffic! It puts me in such a bad mood and I hate that I let it get to me.
A bad nights sleep – but I found it easier with the second kid, if it makes you feel any better.
    Disappointing yourself

    • Tina says:

Yes! The baby milk drunk one is a great one. I loved breastfeeding and I hope my body allows that beautiful bond again. I know I’ll do all I can to make it happen. 🙂

Also, thanks for giving me hope that the sleep deprivation isn’t too awful the 2nd time around. I guess it helps when you know what to expect. LOL

  22. Lindsey says:

OMG I hate the ‘waiting for a phone call’ one…when I was waiting to hear back from a job I kept hoping to get a call and would always be someone else…I was always so nervous!

Hope all is well! I miss our meet ups!!

  23. Karen says:

I totally agree on the “I Love You Mommy” feeling…nothing in the world compares to that!

Another good feeling…finding money in a coat or pants pocket that you didn’t know was there…it’s like free money!!

  24. Sara says:

Good feelings: I love when I look at the clock and still have time left! Love, love, love it! I also LOVE sleeping in (we don’t have children and still get to sleep in most weekends). I love falling asleep on the couch. I love holding kittens–their soft fur is amazing.
Bad feelings: Feeling bloated for no reason; being “short” with people you love.

  25. […] this week go by incredibly fast? I can hardly believe it is already Friday! That’s one of those great feelings, huh? We have a fun weekend ahead of us with a fall party with friends and a drive to a little town […]

It’s kind of funny. I become a certified personal trainer and the first workouts I turn to this week come from someone else. The book came in for me at the library last week and, after flipping through it, I couldn’t wait to give the circuits a go. Making The Cut includes a lot of […]
