will i keep blogging?

Posted: November 1, 2010 at 7:00 pm

How was everyone’s first day of November? Mine was pretty normal. I enjoyed some extra quiet time this morning thanks to M sleeping in until 8 am. That never happens. Perhaps there’s something to the 2 hours of trick-or-treating? Too bad I woke up sore and achy as well.

Today I headed to the store for groceries. While at the store, something hit me. Christmas decorations. Lots of Christmas decorations. Don’t get me wrong. I love Christmas, but I cannot get into the spirit until after Thanksgiving. Although, maybe I could benefit from doing so. Preparing earlier for Christmas can’t be a bad thing, huh? You still won’t see this up in my house until after Thanksgiving though.

I actually thought it would be fun for me to organize and host a Blogger Holiday Gift Share, where we each get a secret buddy to send a present to in December. If I did that, I would have to embrace the spirit before the end of November. Would anyone be interested? Or is there something like that typically set up? I don’t want to step on any toes! Plus, I would be happy to help out with it as kind of a last blogging-hoorah act before the baby comes. Which actually brings me to the first installment of my November Q + A series!

For this series, I will feature one or two questions per day in the month of November, depending on how many I receive and if I decide to also do them on weekends. Now, let’s get started with Question #1:

Do you plan to keep blogging regularly after the baby is born?

Short Answer:

Long Answer: I  mentioned before in my post on scheduling my priorities that blogging is one of those “me” things that I truly need in my life. Blogging, along with workouts, will continue to serve as my two outlets to fulfill my interests after Braedon arrives. And I refuse to feel badly for taking time for these things.

After Makenzie was born, I went through a bit of a funk for awhile. It wasn’t anything serious or even close to post-partum depression, but I definitely felt out of sorts. I remember crying to Peter that I hated feeling like my only purpose was to be a “booby bar”. A lot of that negativity and frustration came from not having anything to call my own. For that reason, I fully intend to continue blogging regularly.

I would like to keep somewhat close to what I have set up in recent months here, but don’t have any set plans on posting once/twice/every other day. I will NOT put pressure on myself to blog. I can get posts up pretty quickly these days, so I don’t plan on it being a huge issue to continue as I hope. Basically, I will go with the flow and keep it up because it does help me relieve tension.

I honestly cannot wait for the path the blog takes after this baby, which I have a whole post planned closer to my due date. Don’t worry – it’s nothing crazy! I just feel so excited to share my progress on getting back in shape (not that I’m out of shape now), adjusting to a life with two children, continuing to find balance in everything, taking up new challenges, and more. I don’t think I could refrain from blogging! It’s that huge of a positive outlet for me. My family will always take precedence, but my passions have value too. So I will make time for them and you will still see a lot of Tina! I’m not quitting on you, yet. If ever. 😀

  • How important is blogging to you? Is it a priority? Why or why not?
  • How soon do you get into the holiday spirit? Also, would you be interested in the blogger gift exchange if I set something up?
  • If you haven’t yet and would like to – ASK ME ANYTHING!!!!

    thanks for the comment, tina!

blogging is a priority for me, but it’s not a substitute for real life. 🙂 i do it as often as i can, but i’m ok with it if i miss a day to spend time with friends & family. 🙂

  2. I’m with you – I need to experience the holidays ONE at a TIME. In fact, the husband mandates that no Christmas music is allowed to be played in the house until November 26th! haha

  3. Sara says:

I really enjoy blogging–I’m not sure if anyone enjoys reading, but I don’t want to quit. I’m not a quitter and I’m still figuring out what path I want to take and what I want to do. I like what you said about “continuing to find balance in everything” I think that’s waht I’m searching for too–a happy balance. A happy medium in all aspects–food, fitness, fun! Glad you’ll still be blogging, Tina. I believe Christmas shouldn’t start until after Thanksgiving. Though often, I get in the spirit during the summer.

  4. I think it will be awesome for you to keep blogging, especially since it’s a “me” time activity for you. Plus, I love reading. 🙂

I don’t get into the Christmas spirit until after TurkeyDay either.

  5. Oh, and PS – a blogger gift exchange would be really cool, what a neat idea.

  6. Nichole says:

You have enough energy for all of us!

I know you’ll do what’s best for YOU! And if we don’t see for a bit, that’s OK, I’ll be here patiently waiting:)

    • Tina says:

Oh trust me you will see me. When I had M, I did multiple updates to my online journal for Oxygen from the hospital. I really love to share! And it really does help me so much to have an outlet like this.

  7. I love blogging. Its definitely a priority for me. I don’t let it stress me out, but its definitely something I want to keep up. I usually take the weekends off too just to keep it from becoming all consuming.

  8. I’m glad you’ll keep blogging Tina.

I love blogging because it is a creative outlet for me — I love the friends I have met through blogging and I just enjoy having a “project” each night, you know?

  9. Cynthia says:

I do like blogging, but it’s not my number one priority. I like having that outlet and like you said, it’s nice to have something as my own. But there are occasions when I will blog every other day instead of every day. I try not to put too much pressure on myself to do it every single day, so if I am tired or want to spend time with my husband, then I do it.

I can’t wait to read your posts on balancing two children and trying to get back in shape. It will make for an interesting read. 🙂

  10. Glad to hear you’ll still blog after baby! I have no clue if I’ll be able to manage!
I would be interested in the gift exchange!

  11. […] Looks like I will be doing some planning to set up a Blogger Holiday Gift Exchange. Quite a few of you sound interested and I certainly do think it will be fun! Look for a post with […]

I’m so glad you will still be blogging! I don’t always have time to comment but I’m always reading. I love how open, honest and real you are on this blog. I feel like I know you in person! 🙂

  13. Rachel says:

Blogging is really important to me, but it gets put on the backburner alot when I get swamped at work. I don’t always spend as much time as I would like to making new connections and commenting on new blogs.

My tree goes up the day after Thanksgiving. But not before! (Oh and this is only my second year to even have a tree.) I’m Jewish but my fiance celebrates Christmas so we have a tree for him. Plus I’ve secretly always wanted one! I do love the spirit of the holidays and the chance to spend lots of quality time with family, no matter what religion everyone is.

  14. A gift exchange sounds awesome!! what a fun idea!!!!!

  15. Blogging has become fairly important to me. I originally started when my daughter moved off to college. It was my way to reflect on my re-discovery of myself, as my identity was no longer tied to anyone (Merran’s mom, Mrs. Pearson.) I was Melinda Patton again, and had forgotten who she was. So, blogging to me, was just a really cool journal. It has since evolved into two blogs. I don’t feel pressure to post every day, so it is relaxing and contemplative. I read through my old blogs on my original blog and like to see where I was…who I was…

The one problem with blogging…I find it takes time away from other writing I want to do, and I do really want to get back to novels and screenplays. May have to discipline myself to only get online during specific hours…

As for the holidays. I found it disconcerting that Christmas decor was being peddled prior to Halloween. Come on! One holiday at a time please!

  16. Yay for sleeping in at least a little bit! 🙂
Blogging fills the random voids in my life and cheers me up when I am not feeling myself…it has definitely been creeping up my priority list since I started blogging more consistently. There’s something about writing (typing ha) out thoughts that is so calming. Blogging = zen happy place!
