Publix Tours By Day, Mangers By Night

Posted: December 2, 2010 at 12:21 pm

Thank you all so much for your supportive comments in regards to my announcement last night. I know it will be a mental struggle, but with your support things will be so much better! Thank you!

Yesterday was filled with fun activities for Makenzie. Which inevitably means fun for me. I don’t think anything sweeter exists than the pure excitement of a child. Except maybe her cute little “Good Morning Mommy” I hear in the most innocent of voices every morning. Although, that’s really only purely sweet after 7 am.

As I was saying, yesterday we had a busy and fun day. It all started with a mom’s group activity – taking a tour of the Publix grocery store. Since the tour was geared towards young children, it was not some super informative and behind the scenes tour. It was cute as all get out, though.

We looked at cakes, watched how they slice fresh baked bread, and all the kiddies ate their free cookie.

We checked out the deli section and heard about food safety…and the importance of hair nets. Then, followed that up with a tour around the produce section. Such a pretty produce section. I know you all understand.

In the meat/seafood section the children got quite the surprise. The chance to see and touch a real, live lobster. Oooohhhhhh.

IMGP8750

The tour quickly ended after that. Only heading to our next stop (play time) would have a chance to hold their attention like that lobster.

After our play time, I tried to relax a good bit during M’s nap because I knew we had a fun night ahead of us. Every year, the children’s program at our church hosts an event called “Meet Us at the Manger”. It’s a night including a meal together, crafts, live nativity scene (with petting animals), games, and more.

The night started with a basic pasta, salad, and roll dinner. Meh.

IMGP8763

The fun of the evening made up for any lackluster dinner. We hit up the nativity scene first for some animals and to see baby Jesus, who had disappeared from the scene apparently.

IMGP8776 IMGP8769

We then made crafts – a thumbprint Christmas tress tile – and decorated cupcakes. A cookie and a cupcake? M’s lucky day!

IMGP8777 IMGP8780

I went for the hot chocolate. I have been craving it after seeing some on Jess’ blog.

Shortly after all of that we decided to head on home. My body was wearing down fast and most of the other activities suited older kids anyways. We still had fun watching little M enjoy herself so much. Time for yet another busy day ahead of me. I hope you have a good one too. 🙂

  • What child-like activities do you really enjoy? I adore Disneyworld and theme parks in general. I’m like an excited little kid any time I go.
  • What is your favorite holiday drink? Hot chocolate for me!

  1. How fun! You have the most gorgeous daughter. I LOVE hot chocolate….I drink it once a day:) I love just being outside and playing games!

  2. I love how your daughter will never be able to hide an emotion- look at how happy she is! Adorable!

Sounds like a fun night I’d sort of enjoy myself… 😉

    • Tina says:

You’re very right that she doesn’t hide emotions well. We know when she is happy and you better believe we know when she is upset. Her attitude can flip like a switch! LOL

  3. That sounds like a kid’s DREAM day!! And that picture of her with the cupcake is classic 🙂

  4. Astrid says:

I can be such a little kid, too. I love anything Disney, and I love fun lego stores where I can sit with the little kids and build cool structures with the legos.
My favorite holiday drink is definitely hot chocolate, too. I must make myself some and soon. With marshmallows or fluff on top.

  5. i love theme parks and zoos although i can’t do the rollercoasters as much anymore…too chicken since i’m older now!

  6. Tatianna says:

That picture of Makenzie at the grocery store is about as precious as they get! I think it’s so great that you go to and participate in community events like these.

  7. Theme parks and carnivals were always so much fun for me!

    M is so cute!!

  8. I am a Disney nut too – My husband and I went here for our honeymoon & go back as often as we can! We’re lucky that we only live 1.5 hrs away…

M looks SO cute in those pictures – such a happy little gal!

    • Tina says:

Our family goes to Daytona every year, so I completely plan to take a day trip each year starting this coming summer or the following (whenever M is old enough to really appreciate it). I seriously cannot wait!

  9. How fun. LOVE that pic of M and the cupcake. Just too stinking cute

  10. How cute is Mackenzie!!? I can’t wait to have kids!!

  11. Angela says:

LOVE these photos! This trip looks like so much fun. I was about as giddy as a child on my recent tour of Whole Foods and loved every second. Childhood activities I still enjoy are colouring (it relaxes me), petting zoos, and Play Dough!! 🙂

  12. Looks like a fun filled day! I love decorating cookies with the boys! I want to do a gingerbread house this year with them. I would say hot chocolate is my favorite now, but it was egg nog before!

    • Tina says:

We want to do a gingerbread house with M this year too. I know she would LOVE it. All the little family things for this time of year are so great.

  13. LindseyAnn says:

OK, that tile is the cutest thing ever! 🙂 The cupcake face is adorable, too. It just says pure joy!

I love peppermint white mochas this time of year. I call them snowflake mochas, personally, because they just make me think of cold, snowy days. 🙂

  14. I like hot chocolate too – it has a Christmasy feel about it for sure.

I haven’t done this for a while, but I like watching cartoons on weekends. And I secretly want to buy every cute stuffed animal I see. And I love water parks in the crazy heat of the summer.

  15. Kelly says:

I love roller coasters and roller skating! M is too cute. 🙂

  16. Wow – busy day!!

I used to LOVE babysitting so I could do kid things. Disney movies, and toys are the best things ever. Im still 5 on the inside.

  17. Looks like an adorable day! I love hot cider, I could never get into hot chocolate:)

  18. I LOVE Disney World! It is one of my favorite places!

    M is so cute – I <3 her smile!

  19. I love hot coco too especially if it has marshmellows and whip cream! I love lots of little kid activities like coloring and doing arts and crafts projects!

  20. how cute!! and what a nice day of activities! love hot cocoa, flavored teas, and new favorite is chocolate pumpkin spiced latte- yumm 🙂

  21. * What is your favorite holiday drink? Hot chocolate for me!
Looks like a super fun day!

I’m with you on Disney World! In fact, Hubby and I are saving up to take a trip in the Spring (my choice of destination). We want to experience Disney as “kids” before we have kids:)

My favorite holiday drink is…hmm, I don’t think I really have one. Sad, I know. I guess just coffee with cream and some SF festive syrup. Which reminds me– I just ordered SF Peppermint Patty syrup and I bet that will taste PHENOMENAL in my coffee! It should arrive any day now:)

  22. jen says:

What a fun day for little M!

    Jen

  23. This post just warms my heart. I love seeing kids learn – they just soak everything right up and are so easy to please.

  24. Lauren says:

I love being with kids. My favorite kids related activity is working at a summer camp for the past few years now. I get paid to play and watch kids all day and listen to their hilarious jokes and stories!

  25. Nichole says:

I want to do that at my Publix! Is there an age requirement, lol.

Hot cocoa and marshmallows, doesn’t get much better.

  26. Allie Finch says:

I love that you do things like this with your daughter!
I just read about the “workouts” & I’m sorry — but it looks like you have such a great perspective on it! 🙂

  27. Allie says:

It looks like you had such a nice time with M!!! That hot chocolate looks sooooo good!

  28. Sorry to hear about your workouts… but just think – in a few more weeks you can workout until you can’t stand it anymore! 🙂

The grocery stroe tour is such a cool idea! Lucky M with the cookie AND cupcake day. Oh, to be a kid again…

  29. Sorry Tina I have 2 seconds to comment quick — but I had to say that the last pic of M with the cupcake is so freakin adorable!!! What a smile! 🙂

  30. Kelly says:

M is so so cute! I think she looks just like you…do you favor one another in your baby pictures??

  31. ashleigh says:

What a fun day!! It;s funny because I saw the produce section picture before I read what you wrote and thought to myself, what a gorgeous photo that looks so good! You are right, only fellow health/food bloggers would get it 🙂

  32. Camille says:

    That tour sounds too cool!
And that photo of McKenzie with the cupcake is adorable 🙂

  33. Lee says:

Looks like fun and I’m sure Makenzie had a blast.

I like hot chocolate but really only the kind from a mix that’s mixed with water. I don’t care for real hot chocolate. I know, I’m weird.

  34. How fun! Publix is great and it looks like Makenzie had a great time! 🙂

I love Disney World while most people my age love the “big kid” parks like Universal. I’m such a child at heart. 🙂

  35. Karen says:

I love to color with fresh crayons! When my girls ask if they can get out their coloring books I always say yes! I think I like to color more than they do!

My favorite holiday drink is definitely egg nog!! I love it spiked and I love it plain!

  36. Oh that would be precious! I think a fun child-like thing is sledding =) And then drinking hot cocoa with marshmallows!

  37. Courtney F says:

    Fun activities!!
My fave holiday drink is a tie between hot chocolate and hot apple cider. MMMM
