The Last Day

Posted: January 1, 2011 at 1:59 pm

Yesterday was the last day of 2010. It ended on a supremely good note. After having a rough day before then, I determined that I would end the year well. Sometimes you just have to make a day a good one. I didn’t have to force too much though, since they day included so many great plans.

I started off with a quick circuit style workout. I used the very first fitness DVD I ever owned and completed. The Beachbody Slim in 6 workout.

It’s a very basic mix of light cardio and strength moves with a resistance band. It makes a perfect beginner workout – or late pregnancy workout in this case. I got pretty sweaty and my legs were certainly feeling it by the end.

After my workout, Peter & I headed out to meet up with some friends for lunch. Thomas and I go way back. We’ve known each other and been friends for over 15 years! So crazy to think that. We only get to see each other a few times a year because he now lives up north.

We have our little tradition of going to O’Charley’s. It’s a chain I don’t mind. Mainly because I am in love with their California Chicken salad – chicken, oranges, strawberries, pecans, spinach, blue cheese…yum! Please excuse the recycled super old photo from my blog. I may not be much good at photography, but at least better than this now.

I also forgot to snap a picture of the group of us together, so here is one from their wedding we attended over the summer.

There’s certainly something special about those old friendships. No matter how long we go without seeing each other or talking regularly, the bond will never cease.

Later that night, we spent our time with “newer” friends though. We have developed such amazing friendships through our small group at church. I really do not know what I would do without them and couldn’t imagine ringing in the New Year with any other group of people.

We had a low-key evening with lots of chatting, lots of laughing.

And lots of eating.

Yes, that would be Jess’ Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Dip. And yes, it is as fabulous as it appeared on her blog. In fact, having the chance to make that for our NYE party almost makes baby B still residing in my stomach worthwhile. Now let’s see how much longer he plans to chill in there. I’ve been having some minor contractions again…we just have to wait to see if they disappear or increase. I’m certainly praying and crossing my fingers for the latter.

Question of the Day – What’s the oldest friendship you have? What did you do for New Year’s Eve?

looks like a great get together with some of your newer friends. That dip looks GREAT!

    Happy 2011!

  2. Happy New Year! One of my dearest friends ever I’ve known since preschool (so that’d be about 32 years now). She’s seriously like a sister to me. Glad yesterday was a good one for you. Maybe today will be even better if Baby B comes along 😉

  3. Anna says:

My parents, brothers and their family celebrated our family Christmas on New Years Eve. We watched Despicable Me, played games on wii and visited. I love being with my family 🙂

  4. Happy New Year Tina! I am so glad you ended it on a good note. This year is going to be incredible for you! My best friend from high school and I still stay in touch. She doesn’t live too far away, but just far enough that we don’t get to see each other too often. Anyway, we stayed home with the boys and watched an “Arrested Development” marathon. It was perfect. I hope all the health and happiness in the world to you and your family this year!

    • Tina says:

I hope this year brings fabulous things to you as well!! I know you have been stressed recently with some stuff and I really hope to see it all go upward from here. You deserve the BEST!

  5. Camille says:

This might sounds kind of silly, but the longest friendships I have had are with my sister and my Dad (17 and 21 years, respectively). I have had a lot of friends over the years that have let me down and not treated me the way someone should be treated in a friendship. They are the two constants who always stick by me, no matter what. Aside from them, my Mom is a good one. I’m not quite as close to her as I am to my Dad, though, which is why I listed him first. I am not the kind of person who has ever had a lot of friends. I am much closer to my family and a few select people. I like it that way 🙂
    Happy New Year!

  6. For NYE I stayed in and avoided the crowds. I’m not one for clubs and honestly, a night in sounded so much better!

Have a wonderful day and I’m crossing my fingers Baby B will make an apperence soon! 🙂

  7. Becca says:

I think my oldest friendship is about 19 (soon 20!!) years—we were born five days apart and met in the church nursery! So we’ve known each other for basically our whole lives. 🙂

I spent NYE watching movies–well, Criminal Minds first, then Men In Black, and then Back to the Future 2 & 3. And I ate popcorn and stuff. By myself. Sis was out with friends and Mom and Dad watched TV and went to bed before midnight. I rang in the new year with Marty McFly and a text message from our exchange student (who was with friends all week). Haha. It was actually kind of enjoyable. 🙂

I’m excited to “meet” BabyB soon! =) Hmmmm… my cousin’s being induced on Monday… Maybe the babies will share a bday?? 😉

Looks like a great NYE! My oldest friend is my best friend. We met when we were 2 at church. We grew up together (but went to different schools through high school) and went to college together and were roommates. She stood up in my wedding and is definitely part of my family! <3 her!!

    GET OUT BABY B!!!

  9. Heather says:

I saw a friend from high school the other night – still can’t believe that was 15 yrs ago!
Looks like you had a great night – Happy New Year!!

  10. there is nothing quite like old friendships! my best friend is from seventh grade and we hang out weekly. it’s so great. i want to try jessica’s dip! happy new year, tina! thanks for being so wonderful every day!

    • Tina says:

And the same to you! You are a marvelous lady and friend. You, Jess (How Sweet), Lisa (Okie), and Julie (PB Fingers) are my longest blog supporters.

  11. Jen says:

    Happy 2011!
Sending labor vibes to Baby B to vacate 🙂

  12. I was recently reunited with my best friend from kindergarten, so we’ve known each other for almost 24 years! 🙂

  13. My oldest friendship is with the girl I met in kindergarten. We only get together once a year now but I love that girl! We went out with newer frowns for NYE. New friends.are good too!
    Happy new year, Tina!

  14. Shannon says:

Sarah and I met 25 years ago and now I’m godmother to her two kids. It’s awsome to have that shared history with someone and while I cherish my ‘new’ friendships, there is something special about spending time with those that have known you practically as long as your family has.

Happy 2011 Tina! May it be an awsome year.

  15. I’m still in touch with my best friend since kindergarten, thanks to Facebook. (She’s in Florida, I’m in Arizona.)

  16. Tatianna says:

I spent the night in packing for school.. I move on Monday 🙂 I actually went to be before midnight too because I was super tired. It was actually kind of nice to just relax and have time to myself.

  17. Robyn says:

I would have to say the oldest and best friendship I have is my younger sister. She is awesome.

The Husband and I stayed home last night due to bad winter weather conditions.

  18. Heather says:

    LOVE O’Charleys!
We sat around and watched football and did a lot of nothing, it was nice!

  19. I’m still friends with 2 girls I’ve known since I was literally a baby. I don’t see them often anymore and we’re not as close as we used to be, but I still think we have a special bond! Happy new year’s- I was drooling over that dip with Jess posted it and I’m glad it lives up to expectations!

  20. Dorry says:

Looks like a great end of 2010! I have a couple of girlfriends who i’ve known since we were 4 & 5 yrs old. I love them! It’s awesome to know someone through the course of life and maintain the friendship through different colleges, cities, etc.

    Happy New Year!

  21. Em says:

You don’t look pregnant at all! And all of that food looks amazing! Happy New Year 🙂

    • Tina says:

Haha! Thanks! I assure you I do though. The picture in the red dress is from when I was only about 5 months pregnant. Now, I literally look like a basketball is tucked under my shirt and ready to burst. You sure gave me a smile though. 🙂

  22. I really need to try that cookie dough dip. I spent NYE on my couch with my husband and lots of food watching Boardwalk Empire on demand. It was the perfect way to spend the evening!

  23. Ela says:

Happy new year to you and all best wishes for it!

Love that you focus on old friends. It was so precious to catch up with some old old friends when we went to England in November.

Glad that you’re getting to work out. The woman on that video cover looks quite triggering and scary to me: but it may be the angle the shot is taken at. Good area for me to make resolutions in…

    love
    Ela

  24. I would love to try a DVD – if I had the room! Haha – my place is so small – and the floor is wooden and hurts ! 🙁

    Happy New Year to you!

  25. Happy New Year, Tina! Sounds like a fun one. Hoping Baby B comes soon! That chocolate chip cookie dough dip looks soooooo fabulous! I am going to check out the recipe!

  26. My longest friendship is going on 14 years now! (I’m 25). Pretty cool to have a friend for that long. I saw some friends on NYE that I don’t get to see very often so that was awesome. Happy new year! 🙂

  27. Kristi says:

My friend just reminded me on my birthday this past Dec that we have been friends for 22 years. We still live in the same town and though our lives are busy and we don’t get to see each other as much as we would like our friendship never changes.

  28. I have lots of good friends still who I meet in elementary school! I can’t wait for that little baby to arrive!

  29. Vanessa says:

Yummy!! You ate my favorite salad! Now I want one! My longest friendship is probably my little brother. He’s 7 yrs younger than me and my best friend. He is 18 now. He is the perfect definition of a friend.

  31. Kara says:

My new year’s eve consisted of staying up until 9:30 (wild!) and getting up bright and early new year’s day with a morning bird baby. I couldn’t handle the thought of voluntarily losing sleep, especially since teething has deprived me of so much sleep recently.

I did get to see my best friend (since 7th grade!) the day before new year’s, so that was fun!

It’s kind of funny. I become a certified personal trainer and the first workouts I turn to this week come from someone else. The book came in for me at the library last week and, after flipping through it, I couldn’t wait to give the circuits a go. Making The Cut includes a lot of […]
