10 Things This Pregnancy Taught Me

Posted: January 14, 2011 at 9:47 pm

1. It may be hard at times, but I can love my body at any size. It produces beautiful children, after all. Heck – I even “exposed” myself with a pregnancy bikini picture!

2. Men like to play games. Little Braedon teased me over and over with false labor. Then, he took me for the ride of my life with the crazy labor & delivery at the most unexpected of times.

3. I have crappy mother’s intuition. I woke up certain I would be going into labor certain days, but my gut instinct would always prove wrong. The one day I knew I wouldn’t go into labor….my water broke.

4. The pregnancy card rocks. It scored me a better deal at the gym and helped us get out of a crowded Christmas event without a problem Score!

5. People search crazy stuff on Google. I have seen some interesting hits to my site based off pregnancy-related things I discussed. I can only hope it was a preteen girl searching “bloody panties”.

6. You all are quite the supportive bunch to listen to me talk about bloody panties, crazy stunts like eating eggplant parmesan to induce labor, and my endless pregnancy rants.

7. Patience is tough, but a valuable lesson in trust. Only God could have worked everything out like it did.

8. Old wives tales don’t work. Although they can be fun.

9. Sometimes there are no greater things in life than feeling pain or wetting yourself. I would have jumped for joy if I could have after my contractions started with the “pre-water” breaking.

10. Sugar is addictive. Those pregnancy cravings were brutal! Although I didn’t mind satisfying them with my fair share of sweets.

  1. Great post! I have learned recently that I need almost nine hours of sleep to function. It’s not conducive to being as productive, but it’s necessary!

  2. I have learned that I have to be me and I can’t make people happy trying to be something I am not. Life is a lesson, isn’t it?!

  3. I have recently learned to trust myself more. 🙂

  4. Isn’t pregnancy CRAZY?!?!

Lately, I have learned that I am happy with being me….and that I don’t have to be someone else for other people!

  5. # 8…but they’re fun. LOL. It takes a woman who’s had a baby and has tried to bring on labor to get that one 🙂

Catching up on your other posts.
    Milk, great.

    2nd degree tear…ouch.

If you have a WF’s near you, the Motherlove brand is amazing. Tell your hubs to go get you some of that….the nip balm works great at healing everything from diaper rash to nips to tears to….you know.

    Love this list!

  6. Being pregnant sounds like a lot of fun… I’m not wishing it soon on myself, but I am excited for whenever it does happen!

Anywho, I’ve learned that friends are just as important as family (and can be just as supportive!)… especially when you live far away from home!

I’ve also learned that the blogging world can be just as supportive and important as “real-life” friends. I’m really liking this new community I’ve entered into!

  7. Hehehe, I knew this would be fun to read! 🙂

  8. Heather says:

I’ve learned that I always take on way too much than I can handle and have to learn how to say “no”. 🙂

  9. *like*

This post is way too cute! Love it!

Congratulations to you and “Pierre” for bringing yet another beautiful person into the family! I wish you all the best!

  10. i have started to learn that eating rich foods kind of makes me feel icky…like REAL icky! too bad those are the things that i crave…. 🙂

  11. I’ve learned that blogger friends are absolutely the best! Thanks so much for being you. Period.

  12. Ela says:

Congrats! I love your sharing and that you’re sounding so happy.

I’ve recently learned (_again_) that I don’t have as much energy as I want to have and have unrealistic expectations of how much I can get done, and need to forgive myself!
    love

  13. It is amazing what one can learn from a “simple” thing like pregnancy.

My most recent learn is that the system doesn’t always work the way it should, but through prayer and perseverance right & truth can prevail. I have, also, learned that making gluten free bread is really hard.

  14. laura says:

You have learned so much! thanks for sharing. Pregnancy looks very hard, but the positives seem to make it completely worth it.
Recently, i’ve learned i need a LOT of fuel to recover, and get to a healthy weight. So. one day i can have babies too 🙂

  15. Jennifer Rahn says:

I NEEDED to read this post tonight.

Thank you for helping keep me sane and reminding me to trust God.

  16. that I miss sleeping on my stomach and back 😉
and I have a very long time to go before I can do that again!

  17. Rach says:

Wow. The whole exposed movement… I had no idea. I’d never heard of it. I’m still new to the blog-world so I completely missed it. I checked out your post and then googled the exposed movement and found a list of people who had exposed themselves. Nearly had me in tears reading their stories and seeing their pictures. Yours too. You are a brave lady and I admire you. Thanks for sharing.

  18. I love this post!

I learned recently that people you don’t know in real life can be some of the most amazing people in the world. 😀

  19. Heather says:

Great post! If I have learned anything recently it is that you should never be anything but yourself and that you deserve the best in life. It’s been a hard journey for me to discover these things, but I am finally finding happiness now and discovering things about myself that I never knew before!

  20. Shannon says:

I’m still on a sugar kick…I think it’s the need for extra nursing calories (at least that’s what I’m telling myself!).

I’m learning how to accomplish more with a baby. I love my Ergo and Bumbo chair!

  21. I enjoyed reading your pregnancy journey- it told it like it is and made me both excited and nervous to have my own kids one day!! Lately I’ve realized that as much as I love sugar, it’s easier than I think to turn it down sometimes. Just because it’s there, doesn’t mean I have to eat it!

    • Tina says:

I have to remind myself of the same thing with sweets. I will go from no desire to feeling like I have to have apiece if I see something way too easily too.

  22. Great and thoughtful recap–and now I want a Blizzard for breakfast!

  23. Kristi says:

I learned that I miss being pregnant lol. As crazy as that might sound. 🙂

  24. I learned that food processors are expensive. I want a large one and had no idea that they cost over $200. I’ll just use my mini for now thank you.

    Congratulations on the babe!

  25. chelsey says:

    I loved this – I hope it’s a preteen girl too who searched! 🙂

Lately I have (re)learned to give up control to God. I am such a control freak, but I just need to let go and let God.

  26. You are so cute! Great post! And wow… I hope it was a preteen, confused girl – eek!

Lately, I’ve learned that i’m much more of an introvert than I thought – i’m EMBRACING the downtime the weather has given me!

  27. Not going to lie, I’m a big fan of numbers four and ten 😉 Something I’ve learned recently is that you actually CAN go out to eat to the same restaurant twice in one week, order the same exact thing, and have it taste just as great as the first time. What can I say? I’m enjoying my last week of winter break before my last semester of college…

  28. Kat says:

    5. I hope for all of our sakes that it was a lady hunting for that. God help us all.

This is like a super-obvious one, but I learned that if I don’t run for a week, I will not lose all of my endurance/hard work. And more importantly, if I move my body and listen to it, all of the weight I worked so hard to lose won’t just come flying back on.

Totally irrational fears/lessons to learn? Yes. But sometimes you just need to be hit over the head with them.

  29. Allie says:

You have learned a lot 🙂 That is awesome that you take every experience and really learn from it!

  30. Cute :o) I learned (or should I say, am slowly learning) that there are things I have absolutely no power over, and pretty much the only thing I can control is myself and my own thoughts and actions.

  31. Re: Old Wives Tales – A friend of mine heard Olive Garden’s salad dressing could make you go into labor, so she literally had two shots of it while out to dinner one night waiting for baby Celia!!

  32. I learned recently that setting time limits for anything is good. When I have time constraints I get more done than doing things willy-nilly.

  33. love this!! oh, i’m really hoping that i’ll be able to come to you to ask for pregnancy advice SOON!

  34. Jolene says:

I’m taking notes for the time in the future where I have children… great learnings 🙂

  35. Cassie says:

Because of this entry I had my first blizzard in 5+ years. At least it was a mini!

  36. katie says:

Oh my gosh, you are seriously so incredibly amazing. such an inspiration, you are a SUPER MOM!!!!!!!!!!!! your kids are going to be so incredible because of the wonderful parents they have, seriously!

  37. Henria O. says:
