Sick Tidbits

Posted: April 7, 2011 at 8:16 am

I ate a chocolate chip ice cream cookie sandwich last night for dinner. It was the only thing that sounded good with my immensely aching body and super sore throat.

After the fact I figured I probably should have had a green smoothie instead. So, I made up for it by making one for breakfast.

C’mon nutrients – do your thing! Make me feel normal again. Purty puh-lease!

I hoard the best bites of my food from Makenzie. I think she is catching on because she waited until this was all that was left before asking for a bite of my oatmeal yesterday. You know…back before I felt like walking death.

I find tracked in dirt after just cleaning the floors one of life’s biggest annoyances. More than traffic, multiplying dishes, and people chatting on phones at the gym. Yes, I clearly worry about the important things. Most importantly, I faced that annoyance yesterday and not today when heads would likely have rolled. I never said I’m a nice sick.

I need a date night with my husband. It’s been since before B was born. I miss dates.

Our last date night with me in all my 9 months pregnant glory.

I also miss a full night’s sleep. Especially when sick. And I must admit that one of the reasons I look forward to FitBloggin’ is a couple of nights of uninterrupted sleep. Oh, wait. I will still have to wake up to pump. Darn.

I rarely cuss out loud, but admittedly have a potty mouth running at times in my head. Therefore, you now know I did not really say “darn” when writing the above statement about sleep.

I am counting down the days until Saturday. Why? I get to make these to bring to my friends’ pot luck dinner.

Dear Lord,
Please help me feel better before then so I can happily consume those three layers of heaven. Amen.

I couldn’t tell whether to praise or curse (in my head, of course) Damn You Autocorrect. It provided a worthy distraction for my pain…but it still hurt to laugh. And darn it all I just laughed at the irony that the site is called '”Damn You Autocorrect”.

autocorrect

I used to not believe in naps, but then I needed one yesterday. That should have been my first sign I was sick. Now, I anticipate my chance to nap today. I would almost trade my chance to eat numerous cookies and cream bars for a nap. Almost.

  • Do you ever curse?
  • What kind of “sick” are you? Angry? Moany? Needy? Denial-y?

  2. ohh so sorry you’re not feeling well. I hope you feel much better soon! 🙂

  3. Hope you feel better soon!!!! And get a date night in, too–you deserve it!!

  4. Hope you feel better love! You’ll have to let me know how the bars come out. And I can never stop laughing at damn you auto correct!

  5. Angela says:

HAHA love that last bit with the texting! Hilarious! I hope you feel better soon Tina! I go through different moods when I’m sick, but I’d say the worst is the irritabla feeling-sorry-for-myself mood. I try not to let it happen too often!

  6. Sarah R says:

I’m sorry you’re not feeling well. But for feeling sick you’re still pretty darn (ha!) funny!

  7. I think DYAC is my favourite website ever.

  8. I’m such a curser, it’s bad. I blame my older brother. I was spewing out F bombs in middle school. In my defense, I’m really good at censoring myself in situations where I need to, though!!

  9. Curse you autocorrect! Sorry you’re sickly lady.

  10. Brooke says:

ah, i am also sick! and i am tryin’ to feel better so i can also make one of jess’ recipes for my friends surprise 30th. good luck to both of us!

  11. Heather says:

i’m so sorry you’re sick 🙁 yes, sometimes i curse, but i try not to…and i love that site! i read it at work when i’m having a bad day so i can crack up 🙂

  12. Feel better soon, Tina!! Being sick SUCKS! I have a total in-head potty mouth/brain too sometimes hahahahha 🙂

  13. I curse often. I blame a work environment where there are only 4 girls and 30 guys. Things slip. And my mom hates it!

I’ve eaten ice cream for dinner before. Also blamed on a sore throat. Totally justified. 🙂

  14. I go in cycles. Trying to stop cursing again, but my husband is a BAD example!

  15. I try really hard not to curse because it honestly just doesn’t suit me. LOL! And I am a whiny sick person and really kinda annoying. Ha!

  16. Heather says:

    sorry you arent feeling well!
I love that autocorrect website. a few months ago my husband and I spent hours looking at it.
I very rarely curse (and thats only if you consider pis or crap a bad word)
Being a southern lady, I just don’t think its classy, and being a Christian, I don’t think its a great witness. All my guy friends know if they curse around me they will get smacked on the head, and I like that they know this about me and respect me for it.

  17. Aww so sorry you’re sick! sending you get well vibes!

LOVE your new blog look by the way! So fresh! 🙂

  18. Stephanie says:

I made those brownies about 2 weeks ago for a friends baby shower- I was hoping to have some leftover but the tray was cleaned about 20min after i set it out! They are DELISH!!!!!!! =)

  19. Jess says:

Ohhh noooo, the sickies have invaded you too?? Friend, I know how awful it feels – 3 weeks later 🙁 I hope yours rids itself from your body much sooner. Feel better!! Hugs!

  20. Kelly says:

I am so sorry you’re sick! It is so NOT fun! And I agree that I HATE autocorrect! But that conversation was funny! 🙂

  21. Ok the autocorrect text is HILARIOUS! haha that gave me a good laugh this morning! thanks 🙂

I rarely curse? If it slips out I notice it right away and feel bad… lol

  22. I’m an angry sick. haha I HATE being sick and it just makes me mad and I want to be alone so I don’t take it out on anyone else!

The autocorrect is TOO much – wow – fondled. hahahaha

I do curse when frustrated- but definitely curse in my head WAY more than out loud – eek!

I HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON!

  23. Aww I hope you feel better soon! That green smoothie should help physically, and the cookie helps mentally 🙂

I am definitely an angry sick. I get frustrated when I can’t complete my normal daily tasks and then when I try and do them anyway, I end up feeling worse…duh!

Yes I curse 🙁 A habit I am working on dropping for good!

  24. I so needed that autocorrect laugh today…thank you!

I’m an in-denial sick person and also become a wee bit needy 😉

  25. I hope you feel better soon!

Sometimes in my head I can’t get curse words out but I don’t really want to say them to anyone. There are just so many more words in the English language…that texting site though is absolutely hilarious!

  26. I also curse way too much in my head — I say things out loud sometimes, but not too often. I have to be pretty mad to start swearing. (or you have to cut me off in traffic, then I’ll curse a long streak)

    I hope you feel better!

  27. Hope you feel better soon 🙁

  28. Sarah says:

Yes, I most certainly do curse.
I hope you feel better soon, Tina!

  29. Hope you feel better soon! I don’t know how mothers do it when they’re sick. Now that I’m older I try to be so caring and attentive to my mom when I know she’s not feeling well.

You done right with your oatmeal and peanut butter 🙂 It’s the ONLY way to do it.

  30. Holly says:

    Feel better Tina!!
& thank you for the laugh from Auto correct- that was hilarious 😀
That Makenzie is one smart girl- waiting for the best bite 😉

  31. Heather says:

Bahahaha!!! That text chain is AWESOME! 🙂
I have a bad habit of cursing – but I’ve really been trying to be better this year. Not sure it’s really working, though…

  32. You’re a great mom- I could never give that bite up. And those texts are SO funny hahaha. feel better!

  33. I looove that website – I read it for a good few hours one day and the Husband kept getting so mad that I was laughing so hard and interrupting his peace and quiet. HILARIOUS

    Sorry you’re feeling crummy!!

  34. hahah that autocorrect website is so funny! I hope you start feeling better and get some rest!!

  35. lindsay says:

LOL! I do the same, with the cursing. Not a good thing. But when someone tracks in dirt post cleaning, ya thats annoying!
Sounds like you need a good getaway with your hubs, well maybe when B get a little older. Sending you lots ouf good nourishment for that throat!
    🙂

    • Tina says:

We’re hoping to have a vacation together next year. And if I do the half in Savannah this November that will be a “getaway” of sorts too. 🙂

  36. Leashieloo says:

Let’s not kid ourselves, we all need an ice cream cookie sandwich as a meal sometimes 🙂 I hope you feel better.

  37. Sorry you are feeling ick. DYAC is the best website EVER.

  38. We are kindred spirits. I can’t STAND IT when I clean the carpet or floor and someone tracks ANYTHING in. Leaves, sticks, dirt. Oh it makes me so mad. Or I’m in the middle of cleaning the floor and my husband comes home from work and DARES to walk in the door and down the hallway to where I am … STILL WEARING HIS SHOES. Oh gosh! Feel better, Tina.

  39. Morgan says:

Feel better mama! Do what it takes to make yourself feel good-you deserve it!

  40. When I am sick…I am in complete denial. I keep telling myself “I’m fine..I’ll be ok.” There has been a couple times where I needed to go to the ER but I kept putting it off because I was “fine”. So stubborn

  41. Becca says:

I try not to curse, but sometimes I catch myself wanting to. Then I have to actually force myself to use some other word or sound, depending on the case. Sometimes I’ll just say “fffffff” instead of letting “frick” turn into something else. 😛

I’m usually an angry (upset at the least) or a moan-y sick. I don’t like being sick, and I think I’m coming down with at least a cold or a sinus infection right now. Yay, Spring…

DYAC and SmartPhowned are fun ones. 😀 I also like Unfriendable and the other two text/phone-related ones connected to DYAC, Parents Shouldn’t Text & Wrong Number Texts. They’re where I spend most of my “bored” time thanks to giving up Facebook for Lent. 😛

  42. erica says:

hope you feel better! (especially in time to eat that chocolatey heaven!)

i curse more than i used to…i was really good about it before.
i’m a moany sickie…i just wanna lay in bed and snuggle all day.

  43. Naomi says:

hahahahaah that text is amazing…i needed that laugh…I once texted someone and wanted to say “nope” and it turned it into “nipple” haha it was great

    • Tina says:

It makes you think the auto correct programmers pick these crazy words to come up often just for a laugh!

  44. Jen says:

Damn you auto correct makes me laugh every day without fail!!!!
Hope you feel better soon 🙂

  45. Wish I lived closer- I’d come babysit your two cuties so you and the husband could do date night!

  46. I told my boyfriend I was giving up cursing for Lent and he told me I don’t curse. Um…I do, too! Sometimes! In my head! I still count that because it still annoys me.

Out loud, though, I don’t even have the urge to swear. I’m more of a “Goodness gracious!” and “darn it!” type of girl.

  47. How you feel better soon!
Dates with the hubs are always the best! I miss them so much, my hubs currently away for work. So I pretty much just miss him. 😉 Hoping you and your hubby get some alone time soon.

  48. Michelle says:

Sorry you are sick!! Hope you feel better soon!

  49. I’m not big on cursing but there are sometimes that the words are the only perfect way to describe a situation. I have a bad habit of swearing in german. I learned it from my mom when she was trying not to curse in front of us.

Sorry you’re sick. Take that nap and then tell your husband to take you for a date 😉

  50. Karen says:

I just laughed out loud at your text message…that is way too funny!! Auto-correct has done the same thing to me before – but never with those words : )

    Hope you feel better soon!
