Will Putt Putt For Food

Posted: June 14, 2011 at 9:06 am

I think I need a new Bondi Band.

Instead of “Will Run for Margaritas”, I need one that says “Will Putt-Putt for Food”. After all, that described my day yesterday perfectly. After a typical morning at the beach and lunch/naps, we decided to take advantage of a Groupon we purchased for some putt-putt action.

Take note: sign up for deals in the areas to which you plan to travel. You can score deals on fun activities for the trip without extra hassle. That’s what we did to score a great price on a round of putt-putt, or miniature golf as some call it.

We picked up our clubs, balls, and scorecard and began a super serious game of golf.

IMGP0030IMGP0036

Makenzie dominated the game, of course. She decided that the start of each part of the course was about 1 inch away from the hole.

IMGP0052

Smart girl. I could have used such handicaps for myself. I clearly do not have good hand/eye coordination and scored at least a 3, but usually a 5, on each hole. Somehow Peter knocked out more than a few hole-in-ones.

Oh, well. I still had a blast. How could I not watching this little one have the time of her life? Although, I think she got more excited over the pirate flag than the actual game.

IMGP0072

Once we finished our round of putt-putt we got showered and ready for our family dinner for the night. We went to one of our favorite restaurants – Stonewood Grill and Tavern.

IMGP0113

We love this place. They have amazing food and drink. We look forward to it every year.

Tonight I started with a rosemary infused blueberry martini.

IMGP0114

Then, a group of us split a bruschetta appetizer that included a fantastically delicious balsamic reduction. I happily devoured my piece.

IMGP0116

Once again, my sister and I decided to share a dish. For tonight’s dinner we went with the filet and portabella ravioli combo. Each of our portions included a 3 oz filet, ravioli “pillows” stuffed with a wine sauce and portabella mushrooms, a Caesar salad, and creamed spinach for a side.

IMGP0126 IMGP0125

I wish the pictures could do this meal justice because it tasted incredible. Splitting a meal created the perfect portions, too. I left perfectly satisfied, but not overly full. I love when that happens after dining out. I know I can easily eat a bit past my comfort zone when faced with an abundance of delicious food. So restaurants that serve realistic portions always win in my book. Hopefully we will get the chance to return again next year!

  • Is it easy for you to eat more when restaurants serve a huge portion?
  • Do you call it “putt-putt” or “miniature golf”?

  1. I want to putt putt! Looks like fun!!

  2. Angela says:

It’s putt-putt for me! I haven’t been in forever though, which is a shame because it’s so much fun!! And yes, it is easier for me to eat a lot when restaurants serve more. I’ve found this particularly when traveling to the US, but some Canadian restaurants serve really big portions too. I usually try to have a snack beforehand to keep myself from feeling too hungry before heading out for dinner. Having said that, lately I haven’t eaten out very much so it hasn’t been a big problem. Looks like you guys had a great day!

  3. miniature golf! I’d love to know the geographic divisions on this one. I assumed miniature golf was an east coast thing, but I may be wrong!

  4. Samantha says:

Putt putt all the way! I never call it miniature golf haha.
And I have the hardest time controlling myself when I’m at a restaurant with delicious food. My problem with eating is controlling portion sizes. I usually eat very healthy, but I eat too much. Then I regret it when I get that overly full feeling. Blech.

  5. It’s always been Putt-putt for me…but maybe because there was a chain of mini-golf courses CALLED “Putt-Putt” where I grew up?
Stonewood is absolutely delicious – have never had a bad meal there. I do struggle with big portions at restaurants but I’m getting pretty good at asking for a box right away to box half of it up before I eat too much.

  6. I LOVE putt putting—except when I was little I called it huttputting.

  7. Kelly says:

I call it putt-putt. Looks like fun. M is SO cute it hurts! 🙂

  8. How fun! I absolutely tend to eat too much at restaurants. Occasionally, my husband and I will share, and that’s usually enough. We should do that more often, but we aren’t drawn to the same menu items. And I call it mini golf.

  9. Mellissa says:

What a fun family day! I always end up eating less than half of my entree and taking the rest home. It is way too much food!

  10. I call it miniature golf and yes I love playing. I’m not very good, but every once in a while I get lucky!

  11. I love the sound of ravioli ‘pillows’ -YUM!

    M is so cute!!

  12. I usually call it mini golf and it is one of my favorite things to do in the summer! It was actually one of the things my fiance and I did on our first date.

  13. I struggle majorly with portions when I eat out at a restaurant. I like to split things to avoid that like you do, or else order an appetizer for my main meal. It helps!

  14. Michelle says:

M is ADORABLE as always! I think Livie has that same shirt 🙂

LOVE LOVE LOVE Stonewood Grill! We usually go there for Mother’s Day – they do such a great job with a big group!

  15. Sounds like such a fun vacation! I also tend to eat more than I need, if the food is especially delicious. That doesn’t only happen at restaurants, but also when we visit my (soon-to-be) mom-in-law. She always serves huge portions!
And we call it ‘Mini Golf’, actually.

  16. Putt-putt! We were just talking about wanting to do that too! It looks like you’re having a great vacation Tina!

  17. That restaurant is 2 miles from my Mom’s house 😉

    I call it mini-golf

  18. Looks like some awesome family time!!

  19. Mini Golf! I forgot about that. That’s a new potential date night idea 🙂

  20. Growing up we called it miniature golf, but now that I live in the south I usually call it putt-putt. Looks like it would be so much fun to play with a little one!

  21. I love little M’s sunglasses! 🙂

    I call it putt putt!

  22. Emily says:

I am huge “clean plate club” person at restaurants! The good thing though is that I tend to be a healthy eater when I go out to eat so I don’t feel as bad 🙂 And we call it mini-golf here .

  23. I call it Putt Putt, but I’m terrible at it! Haha! 🙂

We have a Stonewood Grill here, we love it!

  24. I call it putt-putt and I always will. It’s more fun that way!
Your little ones are ADORABLE! I can’t get enough!

I’m starting to really hate the big portions. I ALWAYS overeat and stuff myself silly. I’m trying to have more self control and ask the person I go with to share with me. I feel good afterwards, satisfied and not so comatose.

  25. Heather says:

    It’s not vacation without putt-putt!
And those big portions kill me every time. I have such a hard time putting my fork down!

  26. Mac says:

I love miniature golf, it’s been forever though! I can’t play real golf worth a darn, but watch out when it comes to mini golf!

  27. I call it put-put, and I was so happy when I saw that you did too. Put-putters unite! As for portions at restaurants, I eat as much as they give me, so I can appreciate a smaller portion. To-go boxes never make it to my house!

  28. I love putt putt but I get SO competitive! Granted Nate always knows what buttons to push to make me that way, but it can be scary sometimes 😉

  29. Lindsay. says:

oh i love love PUTT PUTT! those were the days. all the fun little games.

And yes, unfortunately restuarants make big portions and we as americans are so used to clean your plate syndrome. I wish more places served tapas style!

  30. Shayla says:

What a cute and fun way to spend the day!! I’ve never heard it called putt-putt? I’ve only called it miniature golf my whole life…..I live in CA and I wonder if it’s a west coast/east coast thing?!

And yes it’s always hard for me to not overeat when I’m faced with huge portions at restaurants….I tend to have the “all or nothing” approach….I need to work at balancing my eating at restaurants! One way to help that is like you I like to share plates with my hubby or whomever I’m with, I feel so much more satisfied that way being that I’m able to have all these different tastes and flavors of foods, while at the same time not eating huge quantities of it.

You’re doing an amazing job on vacation and I love how you’re modeling balanced eating in a relaxed way without any deprivation, so awesome! I’m aspiring to that and you’re my motivation and inspiration 🙂

    • Tina says:

Thanks! I’m really trying to have fun and enjoy myself without worry…but not just throw caution to the wind either. I appreciate you recognizing it! And you can certainly do the same.

  31. That dinner looks absoultely amazing. So jealous of that spinach!

  32. Lee says:

I call it putt-putt but when I was growing up, we actually went to the chain called putt-putt. I still remember the theme song. “putt-putt for the fun of it!”

  33. Alisha says:

I call it Putt-Putt but that’s because we had an actually Putt-Putt Golf in my hometime and I grew up going there ALL THE TIME. I still miss it and wish there were more miniature golf places in Atlanta. Ken & I were talking recently how we can’t believe there isn’t one considering how families are always looking for things to do together.

    • Tina says:

Well there is that gross one by Gwinnett Place. We’ve done the one inside Stone Mtn before too. Its really really small but fun.

  34. Bobbi S. says:

Looks like fun! Thanks to you (and bondi) I have two new bands headed my way. I ordered them last night, one reads “Sweat if my Fat crying.” Super excited to see how much they help with the sweat issues!
