Revamping The Workout Playlist
Posted: June 23, 2011 at 4:54 pmThis morning I had a short and sweet 2 mile run that I completed on the treadmill at the gym. It felt anything but short and sweet, however, because I didn’t have my tunes to distract me. I occasionally don’t mind running without music, but the treadmill boredom just calls for some pump-me-up jams. I think the fact that I had just revamped my playlist and then left my iPhone at home bummed me the most. I had anticipated listening to all of these goodies -
Because My Playlists Feel Incomplete Without Their Music
The Edge of Glory – Lady Gaga
Til The World Ends – Britney Spears
Just Can’t Get Enough – The Black Eyed Peas
Katy Perry – E.T. (which btw is SO weird, but strangely addicting)
Because Dance Tunes Make Great Running Music
Tonight – Enrique Iglesias featuring Ludacris
Happy, Upbeat Songs to Keep Me Going
Keep Ya Head Up – Andy Grammer
Good Life – One Republic
I Waited Way Too Long To Add To My iTunes Library
Good music does so much for me. I can have boundless energy if I have great music powering me through. At least I know these songs will come in handy on my 6 mile run Saturday morning! I also now know what I need to ask for as a birthday present – iTunes gift cards. New music may be worth it, but it adds up fast!
- What new music are you currently loving?
- How often do you revamp or switch up the music you listen to? I like to switch up my playlist every week or two, but I only add new music every few months. I mix it up between stuff like above and my favorite Christian artists.
IMPORTANT!! Please take a moment to visit Susan’s blog and give her an uplifting message of love and support as she battles a tough health situation. Please.

I’m currently loving: mashups and Matt Nathanson’s new album (more yoga-esque than running).
I use an ipod shuffle when I run/strength train so I just put all of my fastest, happiest songs on there and press play 🙂
Great list – very similar to my style. I really want to get that Adele song for my running playlist, just has a good beat to it. I also like music that has the crescendo (?)/building effect. Just keeps intensifying. And I always wait too long as well – I just get lazy about it.
We have similar taste. My playlist is about 80% the same!
A feww other ones I’m digging recently:
Sweet Temptation-Temper Trap
Dogs Days are Over-Florence & the Machine
Somewhere with you-Kenny Chesney (for some odd reason I find this song makes me want to run faster-weird)
Ah! Dog Days Are Over is one I keep forgetting to get. When I get that iTunes gift card…
I probably change up my playlist twice a week, but only get new songs here and there. I can’t spend that much money on them- although I wish I could! Right now, I’m loving pop/rappy style songs- their beats totally set the pace for a good workout. For example:
Flo-rida: “Club Can’t Even Handle Me”
Usher: “More”
Diddy: “Coming Home”
Hope you’re having a great day! 🙂
My family thinks I pick the strangest running stuff – they are probably right. Mahalia Jackson’s “Walk in Jerusalem” starts off the whole she-bang. Johnny Cash, Katy Perry, the soundtrack from Hairspray, Abba. Yeah….it’s all there!! I’m going to go give Susan some love….we all need it from time to time.
I’m into everything you’re into right now! Haha. The dance elements in all the new songs right now are really catchy and great for cardio. Have you heard the new Britney song, “I Wanna Go”? It’s great for the gym. Also playing on my iPod…Lupe Fiasco “The Show Goes On”, Big Time Rush “Boyfriend”, Rihanna f/ Nicki Minaj “Raining Men”, and Nicki Minaj “Super Bass”. Tell me what you think of these girl! Just found your site from Twitter maybe? Love it!
ahhh I just added so many of these – LOVE! Honestly though – I can run to girltalk every day and never need new tunes, but it’s fun to mix it up!
Big bummer on leaving your pod – 2 miles is VERY long without music on a treadmill.
great songs tina! i am loving anything by pitbull these days! he has a song with marc anthony that I have been listening to on repeat! “reign over me” OH so good!
I totally agree that music can make or break a workout. Lately, I’ve been listening to Lady Gaga’s new album during runs and strength workouts. The ones that pump me up the most are Hair, Scheibe, Bad Kids and Edge of Glory. There’s also a fun mashup of Born this Way and Express Yourself that I’m obsessed with!
I am loving One Republic’s Good Life. I can’t believe I don’t have it on my ipod yet. I have it as my ringtone though!
oh gosh I would totally rock out to this! you’ve got awesome taste in workout music girl b/c this is def the kind of music that makes me jump around like a madman in my car when i’m driving =)
Just added a few of your suggestions to my own playlist. I have a remix of “Single Ladies” on my iPod. I’m not sure what it is about that song, but it gets me going every time!
Thanks for the post. I was just thinking about this today, I totally need to update my itunes list!
All of those songs are currently on my workout play list! 🙂
I just heard the keep ya head up song today and i love it! Downloading it nowwww!
Ah, seriously, ALL of these songs are my fave lately too and in current heavy play on my ipod and pandora! I am also a fan of ‘old school’ stuff lately…random one for me? Sublime ‘Caress me Down’ (sure the lyrics are a bit, uh explicit but so what right) – brings me back to high school. ha.
I know it sounds crazy… and everyone that knows me cannot believe I love him… but Pit Bull!!! lol He is GREAT to run to… makes me want to bust out some dance moves in the middle of the street! I also love Black Eyed Peas for running and Patty Griffin!
People always recommend Pit Bull to me but I can never remember what his songs are!
I listen to Pandora’s “today’s hits” station when I work out. I get really bored if I know the playlist and I’m never very good with picking out good, get me moving, music.:)
Love that Adele song! I never get sick of it.
I try to update my workout playlist at least once a month. It’s been hard to find new songs I like, but maybe I’ll try some of your recommendations. Thanks!
I left a message for susan earlier tonight. Such sad news, and praying for the best possible outcome for her! Thanks for sharing your workout music:)
love your playlist!
I try to update mine every few months but it usually turns into like 4-6 mos…yikes!
Fun post!!! I’ve missed you Tina. I somehow lost you in the blogosphere but am so glad I found you again.
[…] Afterwards I hopped online and checked a few blogs while nibbling on some World Market dark chocolate. That stuff is sinfully delicious, and on a side note, Tina and I have very similar taste in workout music. […]
I SOOO need new music! I think the last time I downloaded a song was like 3 years ago. My playlist is horrendous.
Eek, I hate running without music especially on the treadmill. I can only think about how much I want to get off. Right now I’m really loving Selena Gomez “Who Says”, Hairspray “You Can’t Stop The Beat”, and Jewel “Stronger Woman”. I also like listening to podcasts too! Especially one called “What You Missed In History Class”. I’m kinda a history nerd…
LOVE these new additions to the workout list, it’s always nice to have some new tunes while running!
I can totally relate to the importance of having an ipod when working out! I left mine home the other day and could only do 30 minutes of cardio because I was too bored. We have similar taste in music!
Hehehe, good taste in music my friend! My running list has ET (the beat…it’s the perfect tempo for a run), Just Can’t Get Enough, Edge of Glory (helllloooo 80s saxophone!!!), and, haha, a bunch of hardcore music and reggae. Sometimes I like the Metallica-like music to make me get rowled up. lol
