I Missed you, Friend

Posted: June 27, 2011 at 8:00 am

Morning to all! Here’s the low down of what you may have missed this weekend:

But, let’s get another week started shall we? I know I have already gotten the ball rolling over here. I was up bright and early to hit up a spin class before Peter had to head into work and before the busyness of the kids’ morning routines started. It always feels so great to start the week off moving and grooving.

Per the usual, my workout left me feeling hungry and ready for a solid breakfast. Yet, unusually, I didn’t hanker for my bowl of oats. I had images of a diner style meal instead. Eggs, toast, and a side. I whipped up my own, less greasy, version -

 diner bfast

An omelet with one egg and one egg white, filled with green onion, mushrooms, and laughing cow swiss cheese. Plus a whole wheat english muffin spread with peanut butter and a cup of grapes. And without a doubt, some iced coffee!

In other words, perfection. A happy tummy = a happy Tina. Although…a happy tummy + catching up with good friends = a very, very, very happy Tina. And that’s just what happened this past weekend.

On Friday night we went over to hang out with our friends Ben & Danielle and to let our little girls have a ball together. It had been awhile since the four of us all got together, due to vacations and busy schedules, so we all looked forward to the night. I think I had started going through withdrawals. I hardcore miss my friends when I don’t see them for more than a couple of weeks.

For our dinner date, we prepared a basic pasta meal together, while also watching the children play and catching up on life. I made a pasta combination of whole wheat pasta with sauce, extra diced tomatoes, squash, diced onion, and 8 oz lean ground beef.

She put together a salad consisting of spring mix, onion, carrots, banana peppers, hardboiled egg whites, and a balsamic vinaigrette.

I also enjoyed a glass of cabernet. Wine. Mmmmm….

An understated meal that takes on a 5-star quality because the people around the table. It had been too long. Thankfully, I can rest easy knowing we will get time with many of our crew this upcoming weekend too. I can’t wait!

  • What was the best part of your weekend?
  • How long does it take you to miss your friends?

  1. Sounds like a perfect evening. Sometimes you just need a simple meal and great company.

  2. Robyn says:

I had a very productive weekend. Cooking, baking, cleaning and blogging, oh my!

I miss my Mom and Sister! I only get to see them a couple of times a year. It does not take long to start missing them, sometimes as I head down the driveway on my return trip home.

  3. One of my best friends lives 2 hours away, and I swear when I moved home from college, we went through crazy withdrawals from each other! We had lived together for 3 years, so it was hard to get used to.

  4. I used to be fairly introverted and didn’t miss people all that easily…however, over the past year I’ve become more and more extroverted and now I really miss people all the time! I would say if I go more than a day or two I get kind of sad, haha. I suppose it depends on how often I’m used to seeing them.

  5. Yep– good friends can definitely turn a basic meal into an awesome dinner 🙂

  6. Danielle says:

That was so sweet! You know I missed you too and I’m looking forward to spending lots of fun times together the rest of the summer! 🙂

  7. Sounds like a great night! I am hardcore missing my friends right now too!

  8. I wish my friends were in the same state as me right now! One is on vacation in FL and everyone else lives in FL or new england and omggggg I feel like i’m on a desserted island in NC still! yikes!

I totally know what you mean about a simple meal with friends seeming 5 star b/c of the company =)

  9. Mrs. Fish says:

The best part of the weekend was hanging out at my grandma’s house with my husband. The company was great and so was the homemade pudding grandma made. 🙂
Most of my good friends live far, far away-like from Ohio to California far- so I only get to see them every few years. 🙁 I’d love to have more friends close by! Your friend night looked and sounded wonderful.

  10. jobo says:

Yum, breakfast looks delish! Love something nice and hearty and eggs always do the trick!! I had a wonderful weekend at the wedding of one of my closest friends. It was gorgeous!

  11. I think we have the same glasses! And mine was filled with iced coffee this morning, too. 😉

Best part of my weekend was celebrating my mom’s birthday with a bunch of our closest friends. Such a blast!

  12. Angela says:

Sounds like fun! I miss all of my friends that I used to see every day at university – we graduated last August and the group of 6 that I hung out with most often still gets together for holidays etc, but I’d love to see them more!

  13. I miss my friends in a day 😉 Particularly my bestie..little things I want to share with her that I can’t because she now lives on the other side of the country.

Best part of my weekend? Pool time with another friend!

  14. Sarah says:

Best part of my weekend? A saturday spent biking around time hitting up 6 year old bday parties and later heading out to a 10 year old play.

Nope, not a mom.. just a nanny. 🙂

    • Tina says:

I was about to say I didn’t think you had kids. LOL Kid activities can be so fun though can’t they. I love all the bday parties. And the cake. Hehehe.

  15. Aw what a fun weekend! I’m so glad you got to spend some time with your sweet friend!

  16. Carolina says:

Best part of the weekend is being able to sleep in on Sundays, that extra hour or two makes such a big difference for me. I also love going to the Farmers Market & purchasing beautiful produce for the week!

  17. Whitney says:

Love catching up from the weekend blogs! Love, love, love the recipes! I am totally going to try a green smoothie this week…just have to get the spinach! lol Looks like you had a great weekend! Have a fabulous week! 🙂

  18. The best part of my weekend was that Lee and I got a chance to hang out with our BFFs all weekend. There was a motorcycle rally near our house so we spent all day every day riding around with them! The weekend went way too fast!

  19. Jessica says:

My best friend lives in Florida, and whenever I see her it feels as though I have found another missing piece to the puzzle of my life. The best part of my weekend had to be when my grandpa came over, and my family and I sat in our den watching old homemade videos. Agh. Simplicity. 🙂

  20. Sarah says:

I miss college where all my best friends were five seconds away from me. But when I go a couple of weeks without seeing my friends I make plans to see them ASAP.

I love being able to sleep on the weekends without setting an alarm 🙂

  21. Lisa says:

It looks like a great weekend!

Mine was fantastic! The boyfriend planned a romantic getaway surprise and I loved every moment of it (except for the stomach flu I got…bummer!).

  22. I had a GREAT weekend celebrating my birthday – and an awesome 12 mile run. Who said getting older is a bad thing?

Glad you had such a great “reunion” with your friend!!

  23. Trisha says:

It is always a weird adjustment for me to move home from school in the summers. I absolutely LOVE living at home with my family, but I also miss living with friends and hanging out 24/7!

  24. I realize how much I miss my friends when I hang out with them. With the baby and married life it’s hard to get together people. When I do get to hang out with my friends, it’s amazing!

  25. I’m pretty sure I always miss my friends, but it isn’t until I see them that I realize how much I have been missing them. It’s tough when some of my closest friends are across the country but I’m so grateful when I’m able to see them!

  26. Sarah R says:

Props to you for getting up and going to the gym so early! I would have to bee out the door at a ridiculous hour if I was going to attempt a workout before my husband went in to work. It sounds like you had a great weekend as well! The best part of my weekend was spending time with my two guys. And it doesn’t take long to start missing my friends. Email’s good, but it’s just not the same as being together.

  27. Mac says:

Best part of my weekend was going boating yesterday! Glad you found some time to catch up with a friend, that is always the best!

  28. Rebecca says:

I really like your breakfast, I may have to steal that.

  29. Joanna B says:

I had two best part of my weekend. First was watching Bridesmaids with a great friend a week before her wedding for which I’m a bridesmaid. Second was an awesome 6-mile run.

  30. The best part of my weekend was taking a 3 days ACSM Certified Personal Trainer workshop. I was basically a brain dump of information overload, but it DEFINITELY gave me a huge advantage when I take the exam in a few months! 🙂

    • Tina says:

Too funny you mentioned that. Today I’m trying to figure out what materials to go for and whether or not to do the live workshop option through NASM.

  31. Yahoo for iced coffee!! I always to those too! And your iced coffee pic is great! Here’s my iced coffee best-shot pic so far…I am really new to photography and LOVE it!

  32. Dorry says:

We had a really fun weekend! Rehearsal dinner Friday night and wedding Saturday night for one of my dear friends. I worked Saturday and Sunday, too, so it’s been busy and I’m pretty pooped.

  33. Ah! I love a great weekend with friends and long for one as well! Plus i can’t wait to be done with breastfeeding (although I do cherish every moment we have now!) so I can work out in am!

It’s kind of funny. I become a certified personal trainer and the first workouts I turn to this week come from someone else. The book came in for me at the library last week and, after flipping through it, I couldn’t wait to give the circuits a go. Making The Cut includes a lot of […]
