Tired & A Serious Dilemma

Posted: July 1, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Let’s all show a little honesty here. Particularly you early morning exercisers. I’m talking to YOU! Do you really have boundless energy to knock out fantastic workouts in the wee hours of the morning? Do you really? I can tell if you lie. *stare down*

Okay, I believe you…but I know I’m not one of y’all to have early am energy! My weekly workout schedule I organized has me completing a DVD workout at home on Fridays. I much prefer doing my workouts without the worry of roundhouse kicking my daughter or watching my 5 month’s old eyes bug out at the television. So that means I must wake at the butt-crack of dawn to complete my workout before those little eyes awaken. I usually get up at the butt-crack of dawn regardless, but like to ease into my mornings. Feeling a fire in my tush and abs via Physique 57 then jabbing my little heart out with 20 minutes of Turbo Jam I do not classify as easing into my morning.

But I did it. And it felt good to get it out of the way and on with my day. I’ll just need some extra joe in my life on Friday mornings.

Isn’t joe handsome???? We rendezvous every morning and its glorious. Ahem.

Now for that serious dilemma. You should know that when tired, I also tend to exaggerate. I can’t help that all reason leaves me. I also can’t help that I deem dessert a very, very, very important issue. Very. Serious dilemma = what dessert to make and bring to our little shindig get-together with our friends this Sunday?

Typically for the 4th I like to do a traditional fruit sugar cookie cake -

Oh thank goodness my photography has improved. Still not stellar, but better at least!

Buuuutttt….Oreo truffles sound so good to me right now.

IMGP8970

They are pretty much one of my favorite desserts, but I fear making them in the heat. I don’t know if they would hold up well. I have only made them during the holiday season, hence the peppermint in the photo.

Peter begs me to make Jess’ triple layer cookies & cream bars again.

So good! But I just brought these to one of our pot lucks. I prefer trying and bringing  new things. New things like Chelsey’s cheesecake bites.

Yet I have a feeling a dessert made of cashews and dates would not go over entirely well. Plus, I’m in the mood for sweet that makes your teeth hurt myself. It’s a good pain. Just like lunges and eyebrow waxing.

Yes. I have a serious dilemma on my hands. Because not only does fatigue make me exaggerate…it also make me want to eat them all. 😉

  • What sweet treat would you choose? either one here or another you love

  1. OK had to laugh about the image of roundhousing your poor child as the other sits gaga at the tv. I know my sister has talked about almost mowing down a kid and falling off her step trying to do a Cathe workout. I’ve stepped on a dog or too myself. It gets tricky 😉

  2. Haha oh kicking kids shouldnt be funny. I knocked my poor beagle in the face while playing wii.

I say make them all! I love dessert sampler plates.

  3. Carly says:

I always choose brownies… I do love oreo balls, but brownies win every time 🙂

  4. Sam says:

oreo balls. totally worth the possible meltage!

i love my early morning workouts, but i am a cranky bear from 4:30am – 5:00am while brushing teeth and getting to the gym. once i’m on the spin bike, i’m totally fine!!

    happy weekend, girl.

  5. I am way too indecisive so I probably won’t be all that much help.
I will say that I think the first cookie cake you make yearly looks delicious!
Either way, I don’t think you can go wrong. Have a great 4th!

  6. Dani says:

I really don’t have that much energy in the a.m., and I can even tell that I work out harder in the evening… but, if left to the evening, there is a good chance that the workout won’t happen at all.

All those desserts look so good!

  7. I don’t think you can go wrong! However, my friend made oreo truffles when it was hot out and they started melting big time.

  8. Mrs. Fish says:

Personally, I love the fruit sugar cookie. My friend made one on a snickerdoodle crust, so maybe could be an option!

Janetha also had tons of cute 4th of July eats on her blog the other day, maybe that could be some inspiration as well?

I used to call my coffee Joe too. Then I got a crummy ex boyfriend named Joe, so now it’s just coffee again. 😉

  9. Do the truffles and just keep ’em in the freezer! They sound so heavenly right now 🙂

  10. I just made raw dough balls with cashews and they taste like dessert!

  11. Coco says:

LOL on the “good pain” of sweets that make your teeth hurt! I am a sucker for themed desserts, especially red, white and blue ones for July 4th, so that one gets my vote. And yes, I am one who stumbles out of bed and starts working out before I am awake enough to talk myself out of it. I make sure I do at least 10 min cardio before picking up my weights to make sure I’m awake enough to hold on to them!

  12. Cindy says:

I pick the brownies they look so good. But if your trying to look for something different go check out http://www.dashingdish.com Katie just posted a recipe for cheese cake bars.

  13. Those raw cheesecake bites look delicious! I can’t wait to try and make them.

I say for a typical crowd go with Jess’s triple layer cookies!

  14. Oreo truffles please 🙂

I wouldn’t say I have boundless energy in the AM, but I do really enjoy working out right away….well, I think I enjoy the fact that I get it out of the way! 🙂

  15. I love fruit pizza and I usually make one for the 4th, but someone else is taking care of dessert so I’m bringing homemade guac.

I’d go with the cheesecake bites — I like chocolate but not so much when it is really warm outside.

  16. Erica says:

🙂 This post made me giggle. I am an early morning gal. I’m not sure how or why, but I feel best when i get up and just get it DONE! And I can’t even date Joe right now (well I am dating his decaf version but he is just NOT the same). owww dessert wise? I’m a fruity dessert gal. Crisps crumbles trifles….they have my heart!

  17. My motivation for working out in the AM is mainly the coffee I’m going to get (with the extra shot of espresso) afterwards! As for 4th of July sweets, I love the ones that are themed…people that can’t get on board with a good theme make me mad!!! We’re just having angel food cake topped with blueberries, strawberries, and vanilla ice cream. Red, white, blue and yummo!

  18. Errign says:

I do actually LIKE early am workouts 🙂 the trick is getting enough sleep!

I would skip the truffles, since it’s so hot. Maybe you could make a cupcake out of the same flavor profile? 🙂

  19. Haha! I just blogged about how I couldn’t run this morning. I don’t know how the 5am people do it!

  20. lindsay says:

that is a serious dilemma when you havte so many to choose from!

    I like chelseys!!
    🙂

  21. I’m a morning exerciser and afternoon. I do CrossFit each morning at 5:30. I run in the late afternoons/early evenings. This time of year in Alabama, it’s so hot, it’s sometimes 9 before I run.

When I’m back at school, the only time I will do a crossfit class is early morning. I get up, drink some nutrition on the 30 min drive to class, kick serious tail in class, then shower and change and I’m at work 30 min before the kids get there. It works out PERFECTLY. After school, there is no way I feel like going to class and especially in the heat. I will however, run any time of the day.

But I have to say, I’ve tried morning group classes before and never stuck to them. So it may just be that I’ve found my “one thing” for cross training and I’ve stuck to it for almost a year.

Now for the serious dilemma–the brownie bars all the way. Or maybe take some choco chip cookie mix and make them into “brownies” just to be different. They cook a little longer, but it’s not any different than making them into cookies. Put the mix in a 9×9 and cook, cool, cut. To fancy them up, put icing on them 🙂 That’ll make your teeth hurt 😉

  22. That’s certainly one major problem! haha …. but they all look scrumptious to me. I can’t help!

I have to do a longer warm up when I work out in the early morning. I would much, much, much, MUCH rather workout at 5:15 AM than 5:15 PM. It just feels SO good to accomplish so much before 7 am:)

  23. Why only pick one? Make a half batch of two.

  24. Emily says:

I go through working out phases…I just went through the crack of dawn phase during the last month or so of school. Now that I’m not teaching, i can’t get my booty out of bed at that time and it’s more of a late morning or evening thing. I just roll with it as long as I get the exercise in. make all the desserts. twice.

  25. RunEatRepeat says:

I’m totally a morning exerciser, so I don’t get people who can push themselves past 10am. Once the clock is 10:01 I’m like a big ol’ lump.

  26. Sarah says:

I am a lover of those oreo truffles, too, but I think they will get too melty in the heat. I would go with another chocolate option, but that’s just because chocolate is my favorite kind of sweet (especially these days!).

  27. You gotta go red, white, and blue. You HAVE to. It’s the Fourth of July!

Morning workouts are the bomb. They make me feel SO motivated and hardcore. A few weeks ago I got up like an hour before I needed to and went for a run as the sun was coming up, and it was seriously the greatest feeling ever. There was one morning where I got up at 3 a.m. and ran…NOTHING makes you feel as hardcore as hopping on the treadmill at three in the morning.

  28. I love the white cake + berry combo for the fourth. It always looks so cute!

  29. Annie says:

These look yummy to me…strawberry stuffed with cream cheese filling!! I also so online where someone colored white chocolate and did red white and blue chocolate covered strawberries 🙂

  30. Robyn says:

    Tina

I have a heck of a time working out in the early morning. 1st I need coffee first thing! It takes my body a while to loosen up and physically get ready to take on a walk. If I got in the routine of an early am workout that might change. Right now I am an afternoon walker/slow jog.

Oreo Brownies are my 1st choice, but I understand wanting to take some thing different than last time. I vote for traditional fruit sugar cookie cake

    🙂

  31. Melodie says:

I actually round house kicked my now 14 year old when he was 2 🙂 lol, he was ok though! Early morning workouts are a must for me since I work full time. It was a difficult habit to start, but now I feel off if I do not get my workout in early 🙂

  32. I’d go with the traditional sugar cookie cake or the cheesecake bites – they’re both festive… chocolate can be eaten ANYTIME! (next week) 🙂

  33. I’m a morning worker-outer and must admit I have much more energy in the morning than I do when I get home from work. I’m so exhausted by the end of the day that afternoon workouts tend to be very lethargic. In the morning, I can take full advantage and my energy level 🙂

  34. Mary says:

triple layer cookie and cream bars! repeated recipes are fine when they look that delish!! 🙂

  35. I am a morning worker outer (is that even a word??) 🙂 Anyway, I love doing it in the morning. Keeps me energized for the rest of the day!! It’s definetely hard geiing out of my delicious bed at 4:40 am, but if I don’t work out or run in the morning, look out!! I’m vicious (just ask my hubby!!)

  36. I’m a morning workout person myself. I alternate days with my husband because he too is a morning workout person. I prefer to go to the gym, I just can focus better without distractions. Once I see that something in the house needs done, like laundry, dishes, tidying up, etc. It makes me nervous, hence I don’t workout.
Though, I’ll do stair master or treadmill workouts at home, go to the gym for weight training/circuit/plyometric training workouts.
I have a huge sweet tooth all of your desserts look wayyyy to tempting! okay it’s almost 5am and need to get my butt on the treadmill before I teach my classes this morning!

  37. Mandy says:

I used to be a 5am working out person but not anymore. Something changed when I had kids and I literally cannot do it that early anymore LOL.

    All the treats look delicious!

  38. Katie says:

Happy July 4th weekend to you and your adorable family!!

I love the sugar cookie pizza thing, and brownies are always a winner in my book!!

The oreo yums look so good though!!!

  39. Geraldine says:

It’s got to be the Brownies or Oreo Balls. Yummmmm. Sorry that didn’t help at all. 🙂

  40. Lee says:

I’m not a good morning exerciser either. I’ll do it when I need to, but I never feel very awake. And then I feel tired two hours later.

Do the truffles minus the candy canes. Every time I’ve ever made oreo truffles, they’re a huge hit.

  41. whoa! The sugar cookie cake and the bars look pretty good and like something MOST people would want to eat?? 🙂 I think Angela Ohsheglow’s Canada Day recipes look pretty good too! Simple but delicious.

  42. Karolina says:

I am NOT a morning workout person. I generally dislike mornings in general, but forcing myself to move a lot makes it even worse. I feel like i’m too dehydrated in the mornings to have much energy either.

  43. What a difficult dilemma you have on your hands! 🙂 I would pick something else if you want your teeth to hurt. Mine aren’t that sweet!

  44. Do you bf or formula feed? Mine is just over 5 months and I bf so I have no idea how to get a workout in in AM! I love working out in am 🙁 ps those desserts look ridiculously amazing.

    • Tina says:

I breastfeed. However, to get some extra milk to save up for when I go out of town I pump in the mornings right now because I can get 12 oz pumped – feed him 6 or 8 and save the rest to stockpile. So if I workout in the morning and feel too full, I can go ahead and pump first to not have the discomfort. Also, my boobs don’t get overly full feeling this time around like they did with M. I don’t know if its something with being the 2nd child and my body more used to it?
