Lake Fun

Posted: July 4, 2011 at 12:00 pm

Morning and Happy 4th, friends!!! Although it appears many of you are up to your own activities. The blog world has been rather quiet this weekend – and I like that! In my mind it means we have filled our schedules with loved ones, a chance to unwind, and outdoor fun. I know that’s what a quiet day from me meant yesterday.

I spent the day here…

I love the lake! Our friends’ parents have a lake house which they open to our crew every year for a summer lake party. And what better weekend than the 4th of July weekend?!

P1140704

We gathered with our friends and their families for a full day of lake fun. I spent the day chatting away with everyone. I bet that doesn’t surprise any of you.

 P1140679

Laughing and catching up with good friends relaxes me. It’s like a mental release. Probably why I love blogging so much. 😉

The day also included lots of play with our many children in the lake swimming and floating.

P1140666

I love the lake. We live only 5 minutes away but don’t have a boat or dock to really use it beyond visiting for a walk, hike, or picnic in its beautiful scenery. Getting to actually use the lake was so fun. I only wish we had a boat big enough to fit all…30??…of us for some tubing or skiing fun all together. We did get to go out in waves though.

All of that playing worked up an appetite…which didn’t pose a problem with the ample amount of food to fill our bellies. Including hummus, veggies, pita chips, mini pigs in a blanket, and buffalo dip.

 P1140673 P1140682 P1140683

For dinner we had a potluck style meal with the traditional hamburgers and hotdogs. I filled my plate with a hotdog, a scoop of macaroni and cheese, a scoop of a baked potato casserole thing, and a scoop of a bean salad (which was phenomenal).

Once we finished dinner, the time for dessert came. I know the suspense is killing you on which dessert I decided to make and bring. Well…

P1140703

I made Katie from Dashing Dish’s cheesecake bars. I followed her recipe almost exactly besides using regular sugar over the sugar substitute. It turned out so well. I got my sweet fix with some of the bars in addition to a slice of to die for homemade key lime pie.

Sweet tooth = satisfied.

Once dinner came and went, we took another hour or so to relax together before we all needed to head out. We all said our goodbyes around 9 pm. The life of parenting young children. At least we all pretty much relate and can still have a heck of a good time. I know I met my holiday fun quota!

  • Do you like the lake?
  • Favorite kind of pie?

  1. I LOVE the lake! Sadly there aren’t any great ones in Colorado but we are going to northern CA in September to get our fix. Can’t wait!

  2. Oh my gosh, I’ve never seen such a cool dock off a lake house! That’s awesome. Seems like you live in a great area to enjoy the outdoors, Tina!

  3. Lauren says:

Looks like you are enjoying a wonderful 4th weekend! Enjoy your last day of the long weekend. 🙂

  4. That dock area is so cool! I love being by the water — we have a few friends who have boats so we get out a few times in the summer. I wish we had our own!

My favorite pie by far is Banana Cream.

  5. Katie says:

yummmmm! all that food looks divine! so glad you enjoyed the cheesecake bars! 🙂

you look AWESOME btw!! keep up the good work girlie!

  6. Maria says:

Oh I wish I had a lake to spend some lazy summer days on! To me, lakes and oceans beat pools anyday, but you take what you can get, right? 🙂

    Happy 4th!

  7. I love the lake! We live about 3 hours from Lake Tahoe and I love to go up there during the summer… I only wish we got up there more often!

Those dessert bars look amazing! My favorite pie is pumpkin!

    Have a Happy 4th today!

  8. Lee says:

Looks like fun! Honestly, I haven’t spent much time at lakes in general. As a kid in the DC suburbs, it just wasn’t something that we did. It looks really fun though!

  9. Wow- they have an amazing dock!! Looks like a perfect 4th of July. I love the lake- living on water helps me stay sane! 🙂

  10. Angela says:

Ooh yum those desserts sound great! I think my fave pie has got to be lemon meringue. My gran used to make it on holidays and I couldn’t get enough!

  11. Alexandra says:

Love the pics! That American flag cake looks so amazing, I’d gobble that up in a jiffy haha 😉

  12. I would rather be at a lake than a beach any day 🙂 Looks like a wonderful day!

  13. Becca says:

    Looks like a gorgeous weekend!

I love going to the lake/river/beach… total water girl!!!

  14. A couple of my parent’s friends have boats so we have spent a lot of time on lakes around our area and I absolutely love it! It’s so fun! 😀

I hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday!

  15. Christie says:

Sounds like such a great time! I love any excuse to be in/near/look at water.
And cherry pie is definitely my favorite!

  16. Allison says:

Looks like a fun time:) My grandparents use to live on a cabin on a lake so i grew up swimming there every summer! Such fun memories:)

    Happy 4th!!

  17. Looks like you had a lovely time, I really wish I lived closer to a lake! Keylime is high up on the list of my favorite pies – for me, pie is all about the mood so I can’t say there’s a definite #1. I would make this at home more often … if only those keylimes weren’t so tiny! 🙂

  18. I absolutely love the lake!!! Growing up, my family had a lake house and we would go all the time in the summer. I definitely miss those days! I hope you enjoy the rest of your July 4th!

  19. Awe- the lake looks awesome!!! My parents live on Lake of the Ozarks and if I weren’t overseas, I would be there celebrating the 4th right now. TodayI can live vicariously thru you! Enjoy–btw the cake looks yummy!!!

  20. Sarah says:

That is one decked out boat ramp!! It looks amazing and I yearn for warmer weather.

  21. Katie says:

Oh I just love this! I used to go to a lake every 4th when I was in high school, and had a blast…this brought back so many good memories. We don’t have a lake anywhere near us, but I would love to visit one again somewhere!

Pie: it’s a tie between apple and peach.

  22. Looks like SO much fun! I love the lake! My parents live on a lake back home in Texas, and reading this post makes me miss them and Texas SO much! Oh well, I can’t complain — the weather has been perfect in SoCal lately! And my hubby’s family is coming to visit tomorrow. Happy, happy fourth of July to you and yours! 🙂

  23. I love the lake and I am so jealous of you right now!! 🙂

WHen I was younger, my family and I would go to the lake ALL the time. Oh I so miss those days. Jet skiing, tubing, water skiing, flotaing on noodles….. so fun!!

  24. You and your kids are adorable! And all of that food looked so good, especially your bars. mmmmmmm. I love lakes and oceans but decided to stick around NYC this weekend for a little relaxin. I read on my rooftop and worked out a little bit in the mornings. It was the perfect weekend. Tonight I’m headed to Hudson River to watch the fireworks over the city. Can’t wait! Happy 4th!

  25. Vanessa says:

Yay for a fun day with your family and yummy eats!! I so want to eat that bean salad. Please post the recipe. I love the lake even though I’ve never been one to go. However, I could so move to the beach and be happy forever!! I’m sooo excited our family is going in 2weeks. We used to go every yr, but we’ve not gone in 6 yrs. I know it sounds so silly, but I’m nervous about the bikini thing. I def shouldn’t be, but I am. I’m also nervous about not being able eat what I want, when I want. I know the beach trip will bring some anxiety, but it will be good for me to not be a control freak. Anyways, you look awesome inyour bathing suit. You glow from the inside out and your outward beauty is beautiful as ever!!! 🙂

    • Tina says:

Thanks for all the sweet words. 🙂

And remember – confidence and how you carry yourself is huge so believe you can rock that bikini. I bet you can! Also, it may feel a little off physically while away but you won’t do damage to a healthy lifestyle in just a week. 😉

    • Tina says:

Oops. Also meant to mention that I didn’t make the bean salad and forgot to find out who brought it. If I can get my hands on the recipe sometime I will definitely share it! 🙂

  26. Happy 4th from Michigan!!
I love the honesty on your blog. That is what has sucked me in. My favorite? The body image stuff. My whole life I have struggled with weight/eating disorders. You have encouraged me to (one day) open up about my own struggles to the blog world. You are awesome girl!!

  27. Jessica says:

Looks like you had a phenomenal time! That lake looks gorgeous! I love swimming in lakes! The water is so fresh is cool-also gotta love swimming with the fishes! My favorite pie is pumpkin! yum yum yum!

  28. Mrs. Fish says:

What a cool lake house and a fun day spent with friends! 🙂

  29. I enjoyed a weekend at the lake too! great to relax and just enjoy some time outdoors!

  30. Julie says:

oh boy…those cheesecake bars look divine!!! I love the lake…or the river…or the ocean…I’m a water baby for sure.

  31. This looks very similar to our day at the lake, except your dock is waaay nicer 🙂
We only have a jet-ski so we rely on friends’ boats too for fun. It pays to keep those friendships up 😉 j/k (sarcasm there of course)

  32. That is, without question, THEE most epic dock I have ever seen in my life. Holy smokes.

A+ decision with the cheesecake bars. I’m happy to see you still got red, white, and blue in (or at least kind of 😉 )
