The Truth Is In The Apps

Posted: July 18, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Truth: The apps on a person’s phone reveal a great deal about said individual. In the short week I have used an iPhone, I have already fallen madly in love. And it does in fact reflect me all too well. What does my phone say about me??That I’m a social media and fitness junkie who loves God, bargain shops, and has kids. Yep. That about hits the nail on the head. So, let’s take a look at those apps I now love…

Hootsuite: I have converted to Hootsuite from Tweetdeck. It is sooooo much better! Twitter, Facebook, and customizable all in one? Flipping amazing!

WordPress App: That way I can keep up with all of your wonderful comments. 🙂

HootSuite wordpress-app

Electric Miles: To more easily track my workouts via Daily Mile.

Instagram: Why wouldn’t I love an app that takes cool pictures and makes it easier for me to capture precious moments like this one?

FeeddlerRSS: Google reader on the go! Very cool. Although it’s too bad I still don’t have the time to actually read blogs as much as I would like.

The Bible and Today Daily Devotions: Perfect for those moments I need a little decompression and refocusing on God in my life. Like when I’m bored waiting in line at the grocery store because they have ONE cashier on a Saturday afternoon. Seriously. Who does that? And let’s not even talk about the gum I stepped on as I left…

today app

Deals: Groupon, ScoutMob, Publix, Kroger, and Redbox

I like to shop cheap.

The Weather Channel: Will I have to run in the rain today?

Phone for Kids

A silly free app that has coloring, numbers, and letters for kids. Sometimes…like when a certain toddler needs entertainment during her brother’s 6 month check-up…its good to have such things available on the phone.

  • What is something simple you think shows a lot about a person’s interests?
  • Are you on Twitter? Use a special platform like Tweetdeck or Hootsuite?

  1. I love my droid! I am on twitter but don’t have tweetdeck or anything…I am going to have to check that out now :).

  2. I’m on Twitter, but I’m old school. I tweet via text or web. I tried an app but just didn’t like it.

Most of my apps are pretty practical–and I have zero games–which is always disappointing to others but great for me because it means they always give me my phone back in about 10 seconds. 🙂

  3. Coco says:

I haven’t tried Hootsuite. The newest Tweetdeck intergrates Facebook, but for some reason I don’t like it as much as the old version.

Check out Tap Grocer for your grocery lists. Its a pain the first time, but so easy after that. And you can rearrange items and categories to match the layout of your store.

The Kindle App works whether you have a Kindle or not – yes, I do read books on my iPhone!

  4. My Droid is okay, but I still have major iPhone jealousy issues!

  5. Sam says:

    i’m still not on twitter…but i think i might be soon, we’ll see 🙂

love my iphone. i have no idea how i lasted so long without one!!

  6. jobo says:

Awesome app choices! May I also suggest a fun one – don’t laugh! Called “SitOrSquat” and it shows you where local bathrooms are no matter where you are, and how good (or er, notsogood) they are (hence, sit or squat!). Just downloaded it hehe 😉 I also dig Hipstamatic in addition to Instagram!

  7. Sam says:

HA this is SO TRUE!! I finally got an iPhone myself and can’t imagine life without it now. SO many great apps – and they truly do tell the story of who you are as a person. Just look at their apps! One of my faves is the pandora app – great for the car, or at work or at the lake in Maine, even! Handy dandy indeed. I also LOVE instagram!!

  8. haha this is so true!

I also think a women’s purse is telling as well as people’s bookshelves!

  9. I love instagram on my iphone. It’s my latest obsession. LOVE IT!!!!

  10. Ha! This is so true. We have a lot of the same apps 🙂 I always like to play with my friends phones to poke around. I also like to try and interpret things about people by their Starbucks drinks!

  11. This is soo cool! I wish my phone had apps haha my sisters have such random ones 🙂

  12. I use Tweetdeck but I’m going to check out Hootsuite — mostly because I like the name!

  13. I just downloaded feeddler after reading this. Love it, thanks for the rec!

  14. Good to know about hootsuite! Downloading…NOW!

  15. I’ll have to get the Today Daily Devotions for my ipod touch! Thanks for sharing what apps you have!

  16. I wish I had an iphone just for the apps. Blackberry has lots too, but theyre not the same. I am in love with the wordpress app though. Its fantastic.

  17. I think that a person’s taste in music immediately can reveal a lot!

As far as apps go, I love all of the ones that you have mentioned and your daughter is WAY CUTE!!

  18. I’m obsessed with Instagram — I’ve found myself using it more and more for my blog posts, too. Amazing what difference some color can make!

  19. i just wrote a post like this yesterday (or a couple days ago? i dont remember) talking about Fooducate and Instagram, I’m obsessed!! i also have the yahoo weather app, google maps, 5-0 radio (police radio…obsessed with that too), checkers, coloring (who doesn’t like to color?), WordPress, Twitter, AroundMe, GeoQpons and Pandora. I’m a little app crazy…

  20. Is M a Dora fan? There is an app where you can take a pic of her, and then she can decorate it with Dora stickers. My niece LOVES it.

  21. I think someone’s desk at work it VERY telling of the kind of person they are! 🙂
(Bookshelves and purses are good too, what is inside their car….ooo, this game is fun!)
I love you app notes. They do tell a lot about you!

  22. lindsay says:

this is the only reason I want an iphone! i think that instagram and devotional app is awesome!

  23. I am deliberately not on Twitter. I have made it this far resisting it’s siren’s song. 🙂

I love instagram. My daughter (5) and I are really enjoying the Tiny Zoo app. She loves to ‘check on the animals.’ The Scholastic apps (we have Clifford and Word Girl) are good too.

I’ve had my iPhone for 2 weeks and I.am.smitten.

  24. Priyanka says:

You are so right, apps are a window to know the person using it better. I have a run keeper (since I don’t own a garmin yet), twitter, instagram like app for droid, springpad among others 🙂

  25. teresa says:

Oh boy, you make it look like so much fun!

  26. im an echofan girl. havent tried hootsuit though…maybe i need to try!

    and instagram, i love it!

  27. Ha – good point! I have the Twitter app but had no idea WordPress had one. Thanks!

  28. I would have all of the same apps if I were to have an iphone! The Bible, WordPress, and MAYBE even the coloring book 😉

  29. Thanks for the reader app rec! I’ve been trying to find one for eons!

  30. Michelle says:

One piece of advice on the Groupon app — make sure you turn on the password setting (so you have to enter password before purchasing). Just in case M has the phone and decides to buy you a Groupon. Not that I would know anything about that or anything. I really wanted that Airsoft Gun deal. Sure. 🙂

    • Tina says:

Bahahahaa! Okay. thanks for the tip. I could so see that happening. Although….maybe I should have her “accidentally” purchase a massage. 😉

  31. Katie H says:

Ohh, I didn’t realize that dailymile app existed! Thanks for the heads up! I have a droid and I’m jealous of the instagram app- it makes photos look so neat!

Hmm, off the top of my head, one of the ways you can tell someone’s interests is by looking in their car/trunk. I have my yoga mat and water bottle in it, along with my workout clothes. My friend just started racing in triathlons and she jokes that her car looks like a tri store.

  32. Haha that is actually so insightful! You’re so right! For one, I have a little navigation thingie that I still don’t know how to use (I get lost all the time) lol.

I think those Bible apps are sooo cool! I’m in search of something cool like that for my Android. My sister loves it on her Iphone as she’s a new believer, and it’s helping her a lot! 😀

And well, I think that a blog definitely shows a person’s preferences and interests! Also, one way we can tell is if we actually can see what’s inside someone’s bag.

  33. I hope I can get Instagram on my EVO. It looks awesome! I love your blog BTW. 🙂

  34. Meesh says:

That’s so funny, I was totally planning a post about apps in the next few days! You’ve got some good ones 🙂

  35. Do you have Peek-a-boo barn? It’s a kids app that we downloaded and actually (GASP!) paid for. Peanut, who is almost 6 months, LOVES it. It’s her favorite app. And i hear that 2-3 year olds love it too.

  36. Stephanie says:

I just got a Smartphone (not an iphone, but I keep accidentally calling it that), and…I’m utterly overwhelmed! I can’t even figure out my contact list, let alone apps! Ha…
