I Can’t Take It Anymore

Posted: July 25, 2011 at 4:00 pm

I hope you all have gotten your bid on today for The Great Fundraising Act! You still have until 9:30 pm EST to bid on my Lemon Raspberry Muffins and your choice of FFF shirt!

Has everyone had a good day so far? Mine was pretty “meh”. I had a headache most of the day and my hamstrings/butt hindered walking for the day. I can get so sore in my hamstrings so easily. I don’t mind a little soreness at times, but it never seems to fail that my hamstrings are either comfortable or suuuupppperrrr tight. Never just slightly sore. Not a fan. I even had to put aside my workout I had planned for today and go with an unplanned rest day. If you can call taking the kids to a play group event at a playground a true day of rest, that is. ;)

I’m actually kind of surprised that I have such soreness going on in my legs after a low-key workout yesterday. Yesterday’s plan involved a two mile easy run and light cross training. I completed the run on the treadmill yet again and followed it up with some time on the elliptical at an easy pace and resistance. Thank goodness for our gym’s Cardio Cinema room playing Sweet Home Alabama to keep me distracted!

I had impeccable timing because I showed up just as the movie started playing. I had to peel myself away because I wanted to see the end. For some reason, I can’t remember the details of how it ended. Although, of course I know who she ends up with. Chick flicks are nothing, if not predictable.

That doesn’t mean I will ever stop watching them, though. In fact, they now rank at the top of my preferred movie watching lists. I have always enjoyed a romantic comedy, but used to never choose one over a good suspense film. Now, though? I just can’t take suspense films anymore apparently! We tried watching the movie The Law Abiding Citizen for our at home date night on Saturday night and I had to beg Peter to turn it off. The plot line of a widowed husband seeking vengeance on the murderers of his wife and daughter literally had me sick to my stomach.

I’m not so delusional to think that things like murder don’t happen in our world, but I simply can’t stomach a movie that focuses on such stories anymore. Now, with my own family, whenever I see a film with such plot lines I find myself sucked into dark thoughts of “what if something like that ever happened to us”. It depresses me too much. I literally started getting shaky, anxious, and nauseous from watching. Overdramatic, much?

Luckily I have a good husband who happily obliged to finishing the movie on his own time and switching to something light-hearted to watch together. Even when something like Notting Hill caught my eye in the Netflix streaming options.

Guess I’ve been in the mood for old school chick flicks? Poor Peter. I bet he misses the days when movies like Saw ranked at the top of my list.

  • What is your favorite movie genre? Any that you just can’t stand to watch?
  • Where do you HATE feeling sore from a workout?

  1. LOVE the proposal! 🙂
Hope your ham starts feeling better soon!

  2. Oh my gosh, I know what you mean about hamstring soreness! That can be the absolute worst! I love romantic comedies, dramas, and suspense movies…but I hate horror films!

  3. I’m a romantic comedy gal all the way. The movies that top charts in my book are ones like Pride and Prejudice, Love Actually, The Proposal….well, really anything with Hugh Grant or Colin Firth. Ahh…and Notting Hills is a great one as well! Good choice. 🙂 Be sure to let Peter know that he’s no the only one…my husband suffers quite a bit too. He calls my movies bonnet movies and I call his Laser movies. 🙂 Have a great evening!

  4. I have to admit, I’ve been a bit of a scaredycat lately with the horror films. In fact, during one film I was watching all alone (The Strangers, eek!) I had to halt watching, look up the ending on IMDB, and turn off the TV. I used to be a horror ADDICT!!

    Oh, how people can change….

  5. Yet another reason why we’re friends…I had to turn of Law Abiding Citizen halfway through too!

    • Tina says:

      I don’t think I lasted 10 minutes! LOL

And I’m doing my 7 links post sometime this week. Can’t wait. 🙂

  6. Love Sweet Home Alabama and all of those types of – girl meets boy and falls in love – movies! I’m a sucker for a happy ending 🙂
Don’t mind feeling sore — just lets me know I had a great workout!

Hope you feel better soon though! xoxo from Trinidad

  7. Tina says:

I am with you, I LOVE romantic comedies! I have always hated horror films.

  8. law abiding citizen is hard to watch. my sister picked it out for a family movie night on vacation last year and i sat there with my hands over my eyes. it’s actually a good movie, but i wanted to slap her for not warning me about some parts

  9. Anna says:

I love chick flicks! I am a hopeless romantic and am a sucker for the idea of prince charming.<3

I hate feeling sore in my abs!

  10. I hope you feel better soon! I have to say that I can deal with anything being sore EXCEPT my inner thighs. It’s so concentrated and it just kills.

I am not really a movie person – I actually haven’t seen one, theater or at home – for almost two years. I think this is because I’m too lazy to go to a theater, and I skip the at-home movies because I have no couch at home (yes, I turn 31 in a month…don’t judge me).

    • Tina says:

We didn’t have a couch for basically our first year living together. Actually we didn’t have any furniture besides our bedroom stuff since we were remodeling everything. So I can relate. No judgment here! 🙂

  11. I’m with you on the movie selection. I just get sick to my stomach thinking about some of the things in movies these days. I love comedies! 🙂

  12. Jess says:

I actually LOVE post-workout DOMS, no matter where they are. It’s a sign of an awesome workout so I really can’t say I hate any one aspect of that feeling. Even if I look like an old lady hobbling down the hallway sometimes. hehe 😉

  13. This is probably really weird but I don’t even like movies. They are always so disappointing! Either the end is too predictable or the acting is bad or the story line isn’t engaging… or all the above.

  14. Diana says:

I LOVE rom-coms – Clueless, Love Actually, The Sweetest Thing – seen ’em all too many times to count! I like my movies to be diverting, not add further stress to my life!!

Also…does your gym have a MOVIE room? That is a genius idea! I would ellipticize for two hours if I could watch a delightfully trashy movie – as it is I get in about 10 minutes before I get so bored I start contemplating ways to off myself with objects handy.

  15. I love watching action, science fiction, and martial arts movies! Horror movies are fine, too, if they’re not too gory. I can’t stand romantic comedies and classic chick flicks at all, but I can’t watch movies about war, either, for a different reason. They make me really sad.
I don’t mind being sore, it’s ‘proof’ that I gave everything during a workout. And I know it will pass.

  16. My favorite movie genre is romance or comedy 🙂

I used to be a huge horror fan but upon finding my faith, they just dont really appeal to me any more haha! Hmm I wonder why.. lol

  17. I don’t like gross-out horror movies — like the Saw films. Yuck. I like suspenseful horror films ok, but the blood and guts is too much.

I like most other types of movies though: I probably prefer dramas the best, but a good comedy is fun too!

I wish our gym had a cardio cinema — that seems like such a good idea!

  18. I’m like you and can’t stand to watch stuff dealing with murders. I haven’t seen a horror movie or scary movie since I was about 14 I think. That’s when I decided no more. Now my favorite Halloween movie is Hocus Pocus. That’s as scary as I’ll go.

I hate being sore in my neck or back, but that’s where I always seem to get sore! If I do a long run my legs are usually fine the next day, but my back is always sore and stiff. It’s weird!

  19. I am not a big movie person (I actually hate sitting down to watch them!) but if I do watch one, I go with a horror flick or a comedy! I cannot do action movies, sci-fi, or heavy dramas.

I have no idea what my deal is with movies! I just feel like it’s a big deal for me sit down for two hours and do nothing but watch a movie! 😀

  20. Ugh I absolutely hate being sore in my hamstrings!! I deem it the worst place ever too, and like you it’s a never “in between” soreness…it’s always too much or nothing at all?!

I love romantic comedies and chick flicks 🙂 Lately I haven’t been enjoying suspense thrillers either…they put me in a depressed mood and all I want is to laugh and be happy…comedies do just that for me so we mainly watch those 🙂

  21. Errign says:

I usually always enjoy DOMS just because it makes me feel like I worked hard. It sucks though when it’s reallllly bad in your abs and core!

  22. i can literally quote EVERY line of sweet home alabama!!! It is so darn cute.

  23. Katie says:

I’m a sucker for chick flicks, too. And I really, really wish my gym had a cardio theater. That would be the best way to zone out.

Also, my hamstrings get the WORST soreness out of any body part. Like sometimes I can’t stand up or sit down without assistance. Hope yous feel better soon!

    • Tina says:

That’s how I feel today. I hate it! I love getting sore in my upper body…but my legs not so much. I feel like I can’t do anything. LOL

  24. Khushboo says:

I love Sweet Home Alabama! Rom Coms are def my favorite genre, so much that I have probably seen a majority of them twice!

I hate feeling sore on my butt- going to the bathroom is no fun!

  25. See now I’m the opposite – I love a good suspense movie, but can’t really take romantic comedies. *Some* are funny, but most are just too predictable for me!

  26. Priyanka says:

Definitely a romantic comedy lover, I cannot stand to watch action or heavy duty suspense movies.

  27. oh i cannot STAND horror movies/scary movies even movies that had a disturbing plot like the movie “taken” when the girl gets taken while traveling…oh that scares me so much!!!

that is so cool that you have the cardio cinema!!

I have to say I hate getting sore in my hams too…its a love hate…I love it but then I hate it because it stays sore for DAYS!

  28. I LOVE that movie! I always get sucked in to movies like that or Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. It seems like every time that one is on, I HAVE to watch it!

  29. I hear you! I prefer light-hearted comedies or romantic movies – I don’t like dark or scary subject matter at all. I can read it, but can’t watch it – I get nightmares. I LOVE the idea of cardio theater! I’d walk forever!

  30. aww I havent seen Notting Hill in ages!! classic! I hate feeling sore in my legs after a workout. I really hate gory horror movies. I love a good historical fiction or rom-com 🙂

  31. My hamstrings are definitely prone to soreness more than any other muscle… if I do deadlifts, even at a fairly low weight, I’m guaranteed to feel it the next day.

My favourite movie genre is comedy!!

  32. I like movies that me laugh or think. I dislike violence or scary movies, I am a wimp!

  33. Sarah says:

I love period pieces even if I spend the majority of the movie analyzing the historical facts. I like movies that make me happy 🙂 Too many things in life make me sad and anxious, I’d rather watch a movie that made me feel good. I do love the Lord of the Rings movies especially the first one. Maybe because I saw all the movies with my entire family!

  34. My favorite movie genre is scary…. but I hardly ever watch scary movies!

  35. I like Romantic Comedies the best. I like to watch feel good type movies! There is enough sadness and crime in the world to watch it in the movies too.

Nice to meet you! I just started my weight loss blog and have been working on finding new inspiration! Your blog is wonderfuL!

  36. I have totally had a headache for the better part of today too – it must be the day or something. 🙁

I loooove romantic movies – in fact, one of my favorites is The Notebook. Totally a girlie cliche right? Or comedies – Father of the Bride is one of my favorites too… and I like suspense movies that keep me guessing the entire time and make me think.

  37. Karen says:

My favorite movies to watch are romantic comedies! I love that they are so cute and predictable : ) I will absolutely not watch a scary movie! I do not like horror movies or thrillers!! I don’t even like the few moments of suspense in otherwise calm movies…I just can’t handle it : )

  38. I can’t STAND watching scary movies! I like just about any other category.

I used to always get tight hamstrings and calves when I ran.

  39. I almost just wrote that I’m not a romantic comedy kind of gal, but that’s not true. I love ALL types of movies. Romantic comedies (Friends with Benefits), comedies (Hellooo Hangover), suspenseful movies (Sherlock Holmes), and so many more! I looooove a good movie 🙂

  40. Mandy says:

I love romantic comedies as well… but I also do enjoy a good drama movie too, just depends on the plot:)

  41. I LOVE Noting Hill! The husband and I quote it back and forth often. I can’t do slasher or haunted type horror films. They leave me terrified for days, thinking that someone is in my closet/mirror/tv/backseat/etc. My favorite films lately are action movies like the Bourne series or Bond movies. I like the quick pacing.

Of course, the movies I mostly watch these days are of the animated variety. I’ve seen Despicable Me, Megamind, Kung Fu Panda, Tangled and How to Train Your Dragon more times than I’d like to admit. 🙂

    • Tina says:

Haha! At least animated films are cute and have that subtle adult entertainment and humor in there…which can be fun the first 20 times. 😉

  42. Karin says:

I’m not a fan of horror and really violent films. It just started to happen about 10 years ago. I’d rather watch comedy or romantic films/drama now.
I hate pulling a groin muscle, and I seem to do it quite often. Just sitting wrong will do it, and then I walk around like an old lady.
Watching movies at the gym? That is wonderful!

  43. Ha ha ha! My husband makes fun of me because he says that all I watch is romantic comedies. 🙂 I don’t like to have to concentrate too hard on movies.

  44. I like the classic romantic comedies, like the Notebook, Pretty Woman, and French Kiss. I also like courtroom mysteries/suspense that you have to follow along with and try to figure out (even though I never actually do!). I can’t handle anything scary though either – even the suspenseful music starts to freak me out! I saw L.A.C. too, and did NOT enjoy it – just too intense (and I do the same thing – start to visualize that it could happen in my own life).

One place I can’t stand being sore – my butt – it feels like it hinders the rest of your “normal” day and walking around when I’m sore there – even though it probably means I got a decent workout for my butt 🙂

  45. I am the same way with movies! I used to love Saw and stuff like that, but now I truly enjoy something that makes me laugh instead of cringe.

I loathe sore hamstrings…i agree that there is no “in the middle” pain with them.

    Have a blessed day!
