On Why Bloggers Rock

Posted: August 1, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Since I had a rather wordy post earlier – feel free to add to the discussion on the “health persona” of blogging – I shall share the weekend update links now. In case you missed it:

Now back to regularly scheduled blogging…

Bloggers, quite frankly, rock. Whenever I meet up with a great group of blog friends, it never fails to transform into the highlight of my day. I had the pleasure of dining with an amazing group of twelve Atlanta bloggers this past weekend. Our group just keeps getting bigger and bigger! Which only means it gets better and better as well. Yep. Bloggers rock!

When making lunch plans, they don’t suggest the general standbys of Chilis or Taco Mac. They seek out little gems such as R Thomas Grill – a kitschy restaurant serving a wide variety of healthy (and amazingly delicious!) options.

Their eyes don’t bug out when you say you spent your morning running 8 miles. In fact, they have their own race stories or workout adventures to share.

They have no problems opening up and chatting away too. It feels so natural!

They are right there with you when whipping out cameras for food…

…and relate all too well to the trying dilemma of figuring out what to order.

It took me 47 years, but I finally landed on the portabella melt sandwich with lots of grilled veggies and a side of cinnamon sweet potatoes. It delighted me!

And for the record – you know a restaurant has a lot of good sounding options if a blogger crew shows up and nearly everyone orders something different because there are that many eye-catching items on the menu.

Bloggers also rock because they get just as excited as you do over things like Love Grown Foods granola.

rthomas7

Thanks to the Love Grown team for providing me with some samples so I could spread the love with my friends. I hope you all like them! 🙂

And finally, they have husbands who totally understand the need for a plethora of pictures and happily oblige with a mid-summer-day-way-too-hot-out photo shoot. Thank you Brooke’s husband!

lovegrownbloggers

And don’t blink an eye when the photo shoot includes us holding up bags of granola.

Yep. Bloggers rock. I can’t wait for our next get together!! Perhaps it will be bigger and better again. The Atlanta blogging scene just keeps expanding. My last count had us at almost 25 and it wouldn’t surprise me if others lurk in the shadows. Let me know if you’re in the area and want to get in on future meet-up action!

  • Complete the sentence: Bloggers rock because ____________ .
  • Have your friends, family, significant others gotten used to the picture taking, blog talk, and everything else that goes along with blogging?

  2. I had so much fun meeting you and everyone else! I feel so lucky to be a new member of the group. Can’t wait for future things like this! 🙂 And thank you for the granola, I inhaled one as soon as I got home that day!

  3. I LOVE R Thomas! I hate I couldn’t make it, but I’m so glad you all had such a great time!

  4. That looks like a ton of fun! Can’t wait to attend my first get together here in the Bay Area.
My husband thought it was totally weird the first time I whipped out my camera to take a picture of my food, but now he reminds me to do it before I devour my plate of food. Of course, I haven’t tried it any place fancy yet, so we’ll see how that goes.

    How wonderful!

bloggers DO rock! I read Lee’s post earlier and loved the pics of everyone taking pics of food 😉 I honestly feel like my blog ‘friends’ know me and relate to me more than some of the friends I have that I talk to and see relatively often. Bloggers just rock, man.

  7. Suzanne says:

    How wonderful! 🙂

  8. Bloggers do rock, yay!

I don’t talk too much about my blog to family/friends, and try not to let my picture taking interrupt our meal times. But they are always offering up suggestions on things I should post on! 🙂

  9. ahhh you met a few of my favs! =) and well duh you’re one of my favs too!

Bloggers rock because they are OPEN, POSITIVE, and SUPPORTIVE! <3 and overall… cause we love thinking… and eating! outside the box! mwah!

  10. Bloggers rock! They are a wonderful support system!

I am always asking my dad and my sister to take pictures for me for the blog. Family rocks too! 🙂

  11. Thanks so much for organizing another fun get-together! Great to see you again!

  16. sounds like fun! haha bloggers rock because they help eachother commit and follow through with eachother goals 🙂

  17. Hilary says:

I agree…bloggers DO rock! My family and friends are slowly getting used to it, I think. Just tonight, my mom offered to move her wine glass/yogurt container out of the way so I could get a better picture at dinner tonight. 😉

  18. Bloggers rock… period. 😉 I’m so jealous that you were able to have a blogger meet up! I have yet to have one, but I’m dying to meet all the amazing bloggers out there! 🙂 If I get transferred to Atlanta we will definitely have to meet up for dinner (and a few drinks!) 😉

  19. What a cute post! I don’t think there are many bloggers where I live, but I hope someday to head to a blogger meet up! They look like so much fun!!!

  20. Bloggers rock because it’s an amazing community full of inspiring, smart women who I continually learn from everyday 🙂

It’s funny you asked this question because since I just started blogging, lately I’ve been talking my hubby’s and family’s ears off about anything and everything blog related…and the hubby is trying to get used to this new fanatical picture snapping side of me 😉 Although in the end, they’re so happy for me and for this new found passion I have 🙂

  21. I’m LOVING my Love Grown Food samples! Thanks, Tina!

Bloggers rock because they allow you to fully be your own, natural, unique self and love you for it!

  22. Bloggers rock because they are the only ones who don’t look at you weird when you are taking photos of every morsicle on your plate:)

  23. Awww, it looks like you ladies had fun! I hope to be able to join y’all next time!

  24. Bloggers rock because they can relate to so many things about your life!

Looks like a great time!! Super jealous of the Love Grown samples : )

Bloggers rock because we are always there for each other no matter what the situation!

  30. Looks like you had such a great time! And what does your husband do to be able to watch the kids while you’re off having a rockin’ time if you don’t mind me asking? I would love to go to one of these, unfortunately, I don’t know a lot of military wives who blog here 🙁

And bloggers rock because you won’t feel awkward asking them to take a picture of you while working out at a crowded gym! haha!

    • Tina says:

Well, this was on Saturday so he was at home to watch the kids. Otherwise during the week they would have for sure been with me. LOL

  31. Brooke says:

Bloggers are awesome! I wish we could have chatted more, but that’s what next time is for! Love your posts today!

PS – I read your shout out to Tony and he was quite excited 🙂

  32. I feel like my friends and family are used to my blogging habits (ie. me having to stop and whip Sunny Seeds out and take a picture when we are out). They even suggest post ideas now!

  33. Sarah says:

I am so jealous of all the blogger meet ups that have been going on in the blog world. Looks like so much fun.

Bloggers mean to me great inspiration in my life and kitchen.

  34. That was SO much fun! I am already looking forward to the next one. Maybe do the potluck picnic thing?!

Funny about my friends/family – they now remind ME to take pics of my food before I dive in at restaurants. LOL! 🙂

    • Tina says:

Haha. M does that too. She’s all like “mommy – take a picture” and now she asks me to take pics of her food. Oh dear I hope I don’t give her a complex.

  35. Bella says:

Bloggers rock because when the rest of the world is wondering why your adding PB to oatmeal, you know your fellow bloggers are smirking.

And no not quite. My family still thinks I am food obsessed when I photograph meals. Plus they laugh at how highly I spek off the bloggers I follow. Oh well. (:

I wish I could have some meet ups like you. It’s just so hard with my living conditions being in Maine and all. Happy to see you enjoyed yourself though!

  36. Emily says:

Bloggers rock because they accept you for who you are and reach out and connect even from miles away 🙂

  37. Khushboo says:

U just described all the reasons why I love the blogosphere. Bloggers rock because no such thing as “TMI” exists…and because 9.5/10 times, someone out there has experienced it too!

  38. Lee says:

I had a great time. Bloggers rock because they are always so easy to talk to!

I don’t really take pictures in front of my family and friends. I’ll do it in front of Jason and he’s used to it, but I still feel weird around my family. I sneak in a few sometimes though.

  39. Runblondie26 says:

Justin case anyone was wondering…Tina is every fun as sweet and fun to talk to in real life.

Thank you again for organizing the meet-up. It was a blast!

  40. Bloggers rock because: they’re SUPER supportive. they address the same questions/concerns that you have. they’re a community. they offer great suggestions for food and exercise. they’re humble. they’re funny.

  41. Is it odd that I feel like I should be considered an Atlanta blogger, even though I haven’t lived there in 5 years? Haha, I guess being born and raised there will do it to ya 🙂

  42. I’m so jealous of you having all those bloggers nearby! Bloggers rock because they support each other:) The community, for me, is the best thing about blogging.

  43. I love your blog! I also love how relatable you are 🙂

  44. Ah, bloggers do rock!!! 🙂

  45. Definitely one of the best things my blog has brought me so far- new, rockin blog friends! So glad to have met you and all the other girls! Can’t wait for the next one!!!

  46. […] overhaul the menu since others wanted their tacos, so instead, I took some inspiration from my blogger lunch and created a Mexican breakfast […]

  47. Since I just started my own blog, I haven’t even gotten used or have decided what to take pictures of and what to post. I’ll slowly figure it out, I’m just now starting to feel more talkative and I feel like I have so much to write and share! haha. I don’t think my family has really wrapped their head around me having a blog quite yet. My mom reads religiously, but I don’t know about the rest of them. lol.

Hope I can do a blogger meet up one day! They sound and look like SO much FUN!!! 😀
