I Fail At Motherhood

Posted: September 16, 2011 at 1:04 pm

Sometimes a mom needs to vent. Sometimes (ALL the time) I like sarcasm. Read with care.

It’s been one of those frazzled days so far. You may remember me mentioning in my morning post that Braedon woke up before 6 am this morning. I thought “no biggie” because then he would just take a longer nap while Makenzie was in school and I could make up the extra work time then. Let’s see how well that played out…

I went about the morning as I usually do on Friday mornings.

Time for operation speed clean. And GO!
@TinaFFF
Tina Reale

Then, as I cleaned off the counter tops I came across this.

IMGP1407-1

Oops! Guess what mommy forgot to do her preschooler’s homework??? Once again, I thought “no biggie”. It would only take a few minutes to find a picture of my beloved little girl and fill out a few brief facts about her. Errrrr….if I actually had any pictures printed!

Blogger = you take TONS of pictures.

IMGP1411-1

Tina = you never remember to take the time to get them printed off. I searched high and low but apparently we don’t have any recent pictures printed off. We don’t even have pictures printed of Braedon!! I fail at motherhood.

I fail at motherhood twice because on the way to dropping Makenzie off for preschool I realized I had also completely forgotten that I had to go in for a Library Volunteer meeting today to learn more about my monthly volunteer gig.

IMGP1412-1

Or…what I thought was a quick overview meeting as the emails implied. Turns out we had to do the full two hour library duty. That would not normally be a problem at all – but let’s go back to the beginning of this post, shall we?

Braedon. Up since 5:40 in the morning. Library duty = no nap for the wee man. No nap = meltdowns of the century. For the last two hours I have listened to one of the following: a SCREAMING eight month old or the cat piano on full blast.

IMGP1410-1IMGP1409-1

You may recall the cat piano from Baby B’s Dancing Video. It was the only way to console him. He loves that thing. I love it because it entertains him so well. I don’t love it because…well, have you ever been around loud and obnoxious kid toys playing nonstop for 2 hours?

I found a little solace in the humor that Braedon has apparently grown a mullet or rat tail of some sort. Yet again, I fail at motherhood for laughing at my child.

IMGP1384-1

Just as sometimes things aren’t peachy keen on the body image front, things aren’t even close to always peachy keen on the mommy front. So, pass me a screwdriver (to remove some batteries), some scissors (to help my poor child’s hair), and some chocolate (you can figure that one out). Smile with tongue out

  • Are you good about printing off pictures? Any suggestions for quick, easy, CHEAP places to do so? Online would be awesome!
  • What is the last silly thing you needed to vent about?

***NuNaturals Giveaway winners will be announced tonight!!!

You just reminded me to cut Lulu’s fingernails. Girlfriend has claws.

  2. Don’t beat yourself up. You are an awesome mom! And I think the mullet rat tail is pretty cute. Reminds me of the hairdo of my first grade crush:). And I would recommend snap fish for pictures. They are always having great promotions on prints.

  3. Khushboo says:

Ha ha motherhood sounds like a joy :-)! Your baby boy is too stylish with that mullet! I’m really bad with printing photos but I’m pretty sure you can email them across to a photo delivery shop and they’ll print it for u within an hour or so max!

  4. I NEVER print out pictures! It’s bad, because sometimes I need a hard copy of a picture.
But the drugstore chain in Canada has these kiosks that make it super simple to print out photos. All you need is your memory card. I think they’re by kodak, and I’ll bet they’d be in Walgreens !

  5. Target to print out pictures! Super cheap and fast, you can do it yourself.

  6. Oh, you so make me look forward to motherhood! ;o) I think you deserve a DQ Blizzard tonight – tell Peter I said so!

  7. I’ve been better at printing photos since I started getting Snapfish’s discount e-mails… but anyway you’re clearly and AWESOME mother! 🙂

PS, love the mullet – he totally rocks it! 🙂

  8. I’ve only been a mom for 3 months (tomorrow! omg!) but I think you are doing a GREAT job! 🙂 I’m still trying to figure out how to incorporate running into my new mommy life…I have not been successful so far…How do you get up early when you know you could just sleep late with you daughter!….And I print my pics at Shutterfly.com! They are always sending me coupons in my e-mail! And they ship really fast! That’s where I had my baby announcements printed. 🙂

  9. Marcia says:

Walgreen’s does ( if you have those there) print out online and for cheap.

I sooo feel this post! 😉
You just gotta laugh at days like this!!
We print pictures off about once every Mother’s day for Matt’s mom. haha! We JUST updated the kids pics in the house… Miles is almost 4..the pic we took down?? He was 6 months old. Awesome. Amara was 2 ( she is now 7). We rule.
Enjoy that chocolate momma- you earned it. 😉

    • Tina says:

I am definitely going to look into Walgreens! I just don’t want to have to go stand at one of those dang kiosks. I would be there for eternity with the amount of pics I apparently need to get caught up on. LOL

  10. Heather says:

Haha – I didn’t have any pictures of Colin when he needed them for school, either! I had to print a picture off the computer. Lol.
You’re not a bad mom, you’re a HIP mom for having all your pics on the computer instead of film!

  11. I hardly ever print out pictures, but if I do need some, I just use our own printer. You just need some photo paper, and GO! Easy, fast, and cheap.
I just vented this morning, right here at your blog. Thanks for that option! 😉

  12. I know others have mentioned this above but I use Walgreens to print my photos. You can do it all online and pick up in store an hour later. I get their photo specials in my email but if you go to the website they will have the deals listed. I usually wait till they go on sale for 9 to 10 cents. That’s the cheapest and fastest service I’ve found!

  13. Julia says:

I can only imagine the amazing noises that you got to hear today. Cat piano looks like it needs to make a mysterious disappearance…except if that would make your little man more unhappy, then maybe not.

I’m terrible about printing off pictures. I haven’t even printed off any of my wedding photos except in the album I created online, and I love them.

The latest cause of needing vent sessions in my life is our renters insurance company, mainly the lady assigned to our theft claim. She never calls back when she says she will and has taken over two weeks now to get back to me about something. My favorite was when she called at a time I told her I was busy, and she proceeded to lecture me about how busy she was when I told her I couldn’t talk right then. She is not fun to deal with at all and seems to think that her time is Much more valuable than anyone else’s.

Ok forgive my long comment/vent. Loved this post.

  14. Baby B has a mullet — that is hilarious!!!

Tina you do not fail at motherhood — you are human!

And no, I’m not good about printing off pictures. Every once in a while I remember and print some off but for the most part they all live on my computer, on my blog or facebook!

  15. jobo says:

Aww! one of THOSE days huh? Well I am glad you can have some humor about it 😉 Online – YES! Target has great 1 hour developing and you can do it all online! Any near you?

  16. I’m pretty sure I fail at motherhood at least once a day. I guess it’s those times that just make us better mothers in the long run. Right? RIGHT???

    I love M’s bow – so cute!!

And no, I’m horrible about printing off pictures. At least I have A LOT of them if I ever do need to print!

  17. I am seriously dying over that baby rat tail 🙂

  18. AJ says:

You are AH – MAAAAAAAZING for being so honest. We have all been there (or “we” are lying, aren’t “we”?). Deep breaths! You can always stick your SD card in your printer for a quick photo print in a pinch. For larger “batches” and projects, I always use SAM’S Club. Word of warning, though. They do NOT keep the prints in the order they were received. This quirk can make for some fun times for someone who is turning in LOTS of prints from multiple SD cards who is very, very, (well what the heck, one more time for emphasis) VERY anal about her photo albums being on a proper timeline. 🙂 Hugs to you, and have a better evening!! 🙂

  19. I’m sooo bad about printing pictures now too! I even get my vacation albums made in books so no pictures there either!
Sorry but i kind of laughed at the rat tail too
Glad you have such a good sense of humour about bad days 🙂

  20. Brooke says:

You are not the only bad mommy who has not printed a single picture of her 8 month old. I have so many pictures of my 8 month old and not a single one is in paper form. I guess that means I do not have recent ones of the 4 year old either. Oops Mommy fail 🙂
I don’t know a good place to get photos printed but I did see on the pampers points that for 5,000 points or something you can get 200 prints from shutterfly. Just a thought, not sure what diapers you use. I am going to be redeeming my points for some pics!

  21. Rachel says:

B is so cute, even with the mullet! If you need them quickly, you can order from Walgreens online and pick them up. Cheap too!

  22. Lol Tina I am sorry about your morning, but you just made MY morning by reading that post!
The baby rats tail was definitely my fav.
Hope you found that chocolate – you deserve it!!

  23. Holly says:

Kodak or shutterfly have great promos. I just ordered 189 printes from Kodak for 1.99 shipped and they were here in less than a week! Super easy if you use their photo software.

Trust me, you are not a bad mother! There are only so many hours in a day/so many responsibilities/so many WANTS that are hanging over us that it’s impossible to do everything and still feel like a human being and not be a raving lunatic!! I am supposed to do laundry today, but haven’t yet. I think I’ll at least put a load on right now.
My 4.5 year old is running in her first race…1 mile at 5 and that’s more important than laundry!

  24. teresa says:

We use Shutterfly to print photos, which we don’t do nearly enough! Our printer isn’t good enough to even eek out one good photo. I made a really nice photo book for my husband for fathers day on shutterfly. Super easy and I thikn really resonable.
You have not failed. My daughter had a natural mokawk. It was great. Funny, and great.
You even volunteer at the library!!!!!!
Get yourself some chocolate! You deserve it.
And why am I’m commenting on all your posts all day…. because I’m proctrastinating doing the stinking laundry! Worked out though….

  25. You do not fail! I think it is simply amazing that you can balance all the things you do. And to have the attitude you have doing it! Keep on truckin Tina!!

  26. I send all my prints on to Costco.com. Upload them there, then just go to the store & pick ’em up. As long as you’re not doing that on a Saturday afternoon (Saturdays = Costco Crazy Days).

  27. This is hilarious! What a day! I am actually cracking up over the cat piano. First of all, because who would ever think you would be using the word ‘cat piano’ and second of all, I don’t know what’s worse…crying or the piano! 🙂

  28. Hehehe…you’re so funny. Loving the mullet! Too cute 😀 I never print pics anymore. That’s probably the thing I miss most about nondigital cameras. Hope your day slows down a bit 😀

  29. I think the last time we actually had pictures printed out was our wedding and that was 5 years ago. So no, you don’t fail at motherhood, it’s just the times we live in! haha

  30. emily says:

you may think today was a fail, but you’ve given the world two more gorgeous people 🙂
i vent about my boyfriend covering half our couch with books and whatever else comes out his bag. and coat hangers. fairly minor but on the right day, it drives me insane.

  31. RunEatRepeat says:

At least you rock at blogging?!
    😉

  32. Kara says:

Faith has the same rat tail! I can’t cut hers though because I really hope the rest will grow too. 🙂

I have SO many toys that I love and hate at the same time!

  33. You’re not even close to being a failure….you are an awesome momma! 🙂 I use snapfish for photos…then you just order them and they show up in the mail. I always get so excited for fun mail!

  34. Sana says:

I have not printed off a picture in the past decade. That is why I have a blog 🙂

  35. I have a feeling I’m going to be like that all the time when I have kids! If I’m going to print my photos I usually do it at CVS!

  36. Seriously, I forgot to give Max lunch money today! While most kids love pb&j, mine does not. So the obligatory no lunch money pb&j at school would not have cut it. I love mommy cool points all the time! As for the pictures, no, I never get them printed. We are screwed if our computers crash. Dang, now I’m nervous!

    Enjoy your weekend Tina!

  37. Ha – you shouldn’t feel bad about the pictures thing, that’s just the way things are these days! I barely ever print pictures – just went I want to fill some frames.

Maybe Braedon can be a trendsetter… mullets will be the “it” infant hairdo of 2011.

  38. Don’t even worry about B’s hair. Today I worked at the county Health Department for a Kindergarten Immunization Clinic, and there was a little boy with a buzzed head, that turned into a mullet, which turned into a braided rat tail… at least 6 inches long. It was so so wrong!

  39. I USED to be good at printing pictures and scrap booking, but since blogging and facebook, I’ve certainly become lazy with it!

  40. […] Apparently they can also make you appreciate the little things in life a lot more readily. After “failing at motherhood” today, I realized how thankful I am for a few […]

  41. Wendy says:

Well, it’s good to know I’m not alone in my failures at motherhood! Ha!

I’m terrible about printing pictures, but when I do order them, I like Snapfish. I think you can get prints for as cheap as 9 or 10 cents. I have several hundred print credits because I bought a deal awhile ago, so I haven’t actually paid for prints recently.

Hope you have a better day tomorrow!

  42. Hello chocolate!

I am terrible at printing off pictures! I can’t even remember the last time I printed pictures out from a store. Sometimes I just temporally print them off on my printer and find that works in a pinch.

  43. Lee says:

I’ve used kodakgallery.com before and it’s pretty cheap. It takes a few days though.

  44. I think nowadays we don’t print pics off…because we really don’t have to! I load all of them onto my computer, select the ones I want to show on my laptop screen saver, and pic ones to post on my blog, facebook, twitter, etc. Why print em out? Everyone has already seen them. 😉

It’s nice to hear someone be honest and share “failures” (which yours were so tiny it was humorous). I actually just did a post called “Turn that Frown Upside-Down” because I was feeling like a failure of a person. Blogging about it helps and it helps to see others aren’t perfect either. 😉

    Thanks for sharing!!

It’s kind of funny. I become a certified personal trainer and the first workouts I turn to this week come from someone else. The book came in for me at the library last week and, after flipping through it, I couldn’t wait to give the circuits a go. Making The Cut includes a lot of […]
