Something Is Amiss
Posted: September 19, 2011 at 7:06 pm5:30 am: Wake up very begrudgingly. Want to stay snuggled under the covers with the best husband in the world.
5:45 am: Blog about the wonderful surprise from the best husband in the world.
6:30 am: Get dressed in my favorite Champion gear. Not only to nab a picture of my special giveaway items (have you entered?!), but also because I had workout plans later in the day.
11:30 am: Send the following Tweet.
1:00 pm: Share the following conversation with Peter via Google Chat.
2:00 pm: Send another Tweet.
The fact that I’m sending tweets and reading a bazillion blogs smack in the middle of nap time should let you know exactly how unmotivated I’m feeling.
5:00 pm: Head to the park with the family instead of to spin class.
6:30 pm: Take a hot shower and crawl into pajamas.
The remainder of the night: Get the kids to bed quickly and crawl into bed early with a movie, something sweet, and something sweeter (Peter) for accommodating my complete lack of motivation when he knows I just need it…no questions asked.
Although, here’s hoping my motivation mojo will finally make a reappearance in my life soon! I don’t know what is up lately, but something is amiss.
And since that post clearly did not give the highest quality reading, here are a few other things I encourage you to please check out:

Help a girl out – When was the last time you lacked motivation? How did you get that mojo back in your life? Just ride it out or any tips/tricks?
When I have that lack of motivation/mojo going on like you did/do, the only thing that helps me is a rest day and SLEEP. Sometimes an unplanned day off is just what I need to want to get moving again.
Sometimes you just need a break! Then you get your mojo back.
For me, it helped to do something different. Hiking or biking somewhere I’ve never been. Changing the scenery helps!
Totally totally fine to crawl into your pjs. I think its the change in weather. I felt the same way yesterday!
Don’t worry, Tina– you milk those PJ’s. We all need a break sometimes.
The last time I lacked motivation was actually just last night– I just was so exhausted by the time I finished laundry, chores, dinner, school work, and everything else, that I couldn’t even IMAGINE pumping out a dinner post (I totally just wrote pumpkin instead of pumping….mmm :D)
Haha your convo with your hubby is cute.
I definitely find that my mojo lacks from time to time. I know for me, it’s usually because I just need an extra day or two off to rest. So I take them, and then whether I like it or not, I get back into my workout routine. Just the act of getting back into it makes me more motivated and reminds me of why I love to workout so much. Enjoy your relaxing evening! 🙂
Eyes on the prize – whenever I lose the motivation to workout, I remind myself of my goals, and I almost instantly am ready to get back to it!
I am lacking major motivation today. I’m coming down with a cold and I have a test wednesday that i do NOT want to study for. ugh! enjoy movie night:)
That convo with Peter was hilarious… ha ha. Sometimes a movie and ice cream is just what you need. I feel like I haven’t done that in forever!
Hope a little mojo comes back tomorrow for ya 🙂
I absolutely love this blog because it reminds me that everyone has their off days. I’ve had my off day(s) all weekend long and felt like crap physically and mentally. I didn’t want to pick up a book for studying, and especially didn’t want to pick up a foot for exercising. However, I feel so much better today when I had a mental pep talk with myself. I’m so glad you KEEP IT REAL! So the ones(like me) who don’t run miles and miles every blessed day are assured we are all human and deserve some relaxation sometime. I bet you will kick butt tomorrow… As a wife, mother, cook, runner, and fab blogger that you are!
Thanks, Mindy! I definitely could never put up a front. It’s just not who I am. And I hope that by keeping it real it does help encourage us all. I know it keeps me balanced! 🙂
Rest day, sleep, relax, good quality you time and then make sure to get back to it the next day (even if you don’t feel like it!) Go for something you love, when I get down about the gym I just go for a walk! put some happy music on and enjoy the weather and nature. Go with what feels right and treat yourself well aka don’t push yourself too hard when your body- or mind for that matter- need a rest.
Hope you’re feeling more yourself tomorrow! xxx
I lacked some serious motivation after my “fail” run, but I had plans to go to yoga with a friend.
I’m usually not one to exercise with others, but knowing I had made that commitment to her AND myself made me want to follow through.
and it was good 🙂
I was feeling off today too. No worries girl, it’s probably just a case of the Mondays. 🙂
Right this moment I lack motivation to pry myself out of my desk chair and go eat dinner, even though I’m so hungry I could eat an entire side of beef in one sitting (and this from a woman who has to convince her husband that it is OKAY to occasionally have meals that don’t feature meat).
But getting up to eat would involve… well, getting up.
So yes, I’m with you LOL
I have certainly had my moments like that! LOL
I have days where I lack motivation pretty often… I either convince myself that i need a day of rest (which is probably true if I’m feeling that lethargic!) or I get my booty to the gym or to the library to do work somehow… don’t usually regret it either way 🙂
It seems like your body need abit of a break. Just chill for awhile it should come back 🙂
It’s funny you should post about this today, because I have been feeling exactly the same lack of motivation recently. I think the best way to “make up” for lack of motivation or to get motivation back is to take an active rest. Sometimes, I’ll just focus on getting a couple of relaxing things done, like reading a book or trying out a new recipe. Fun, but not taxing.
Have a relaxing evening! 🙂
Hi Tina,
This is a totally unrelated “comment” but I made the pumpkin bread (sooo yummy!) but now have 2 cups unused pumpkin in my fridge. Am a single gal. What should I make with it? Can be meal or snack. I know you love your pumpkin!! Thanks 🙂
PS: “me caveman” is totally something I would have wrote!!
I love adding it in to my oats in the morning. Although make sure you use something like maple syrup or honey to counteract the slight bitterness of it. I also feed it as baby food to Braedon. He loves it. LOL
Oh – or make pumpkin spice cookies. Box of spice cake mix. 15oz of pumpkin (maybe 2 cups worth) and that’s it. Mix together. Plop onto a baking sheet by the spoonful and bake for about 10ish minutes until toothpick comes out clean. Add chocolate chips, even! Love those.
Aw! Whenever I am feeling this way – meh, pretty much – it’s because I am feeling unfocused or needing a new challenge or things just being status quo…and not being used to status quo. If that makes sense. Sometimes we are always looking forward to the next challenge or next ‘thing’ to accomplish, that when we don’t have a lot of that floating around, we feel meh. at least that’s what happens to me. It’ll return, that mojo, I know it!
Saturday I did NOTHING. I completely lacked motivation…. I didn’t work out, clean, cook. NOTHING. In fact I took a 4 1/2 hour nap. Sometimes it is ok to be lazy..our bodies need a break from life! No worries girlfriend 🙂
That mojo can be SO elusive sometimes can’t it?? But seriously, to me that just is a sign my body is telling me to give it a rest, or two. And as soon as I stop, slow down and listen, my mojo magically returns in a day or two. So that’s my advice – stop looking for the mojo and slow down a bit, she’ll be back to kick your butt soon enough, promise 🙂
Aww Tina let me tell you I’ve been there. There’s so many reasons why we get in slumps, sometimes its just because our mind/body is telling us to slow down and get in check. Make sure your vitamins and minerals are all good, too, because that can really effect it. Maybe you need to do something a little new or different? Just to switch it up and get excited about something new. You’ll get it back girl, I have faith in you!
Loved your guest post on Katie’s blog. I didn’t know that story! definitely memorable 😉
You work hard and deserve the rest! It is good to listen to your body and rest.
Usually when I have one totally lazy/unproductive day, it’s like hitting restart and I get back on track the next day. We all need a break sometime!
I definitely have those days – I just take it as a sign that I should spend my time doing something other than working out. I do enough of that as it is, so an extra day off here and there is good for the mind + body. I have a feeling your motivation will come back just as quickly as it left. 🙂
This was totally my day today!! zero motivation 🙂
I was completely lacking motivation last week! Getting up to run seemed like the worst thing ever! I woke up one day and the morning was beautiful and I figured that day would be the one that my mojo would come back! I had such a nice run and I really appreciated the gorgeous day! 🙂
Sometimes no motivation is a completely good thing! I always know that when im having these kinda days its usually my body telling me I need a time out. Maybe your body needed one too!
Tina I totally lacked motivation over the weekend — it happens! You’ll get it back in no time.
I loved the post! We all have those days! I’m sure many of us envied you for allowing yourself to just “be”….and I hope you had some more caveman talk! 🙂
I felt completely unmotivated a couple days ago. I was tired and my brain was just not working. So what did I do? I took a hot shower, drank a cup of tea, and went to sleep early! It worked! I think we all get burnt out once in a while and it’s ok to take a breather for your own mental health! 🙂
Uh, tell me about it! My motivation to workout has been missing for weeks! It probably got lost somewhere between my desk job and wedding/family stuff, and I’m having a really hard time getting it back. I’ve signed up for a Zumba class and a Pilates class, have two short races planned for October … hopefully this will help. Sigh!
On days like those, nothing seems to do the trick! I’ve noticed that if I leave my workout for ‘later’, chances are it won’t happen. There seems to be a negative correlation between my motivation levels and time of day ha! Hope you wake up feeling rejuvenated!
[…] lot of you mentioned last night that when you face the workout blahs it’s usually because you need some rest, so you choose to […]
I feel like if your mojo is really gone, you’ve got to just ride it out. Allow yourself a reasonable amount of down time… time to do whatever relaxing and lazing around that you want, and then, once you’ve done that, jump back on the horse. PS I’m glad you’re back! Seems like you got over this little speed bump quickly! 😀
Oh, the elusive Mojo! I just wrote about it myself. The best I could do is come up with Mojo related accessories. Like a “Mojo Retreival” app of some kind.
I know you’ll get it back. In the meantime, enjoy everything else about your life.
xoxo
