Song Superlatives

Posted: October 1, 2011 at 9:19 am

Wow. I tell you what, wow! <— Can anyone name that movie???

Eleven miles is a seriously long time to run. Unless you’re Kara. Then it’s cute. And she can call it that because she is so hilariously awesome. You have to love blog friends who can motivate you and help push you through!

A few other things that pushed me through?

  • my normal fuel – PBJ english muffin before + espresso love Gu during
  • wanting to get out of the cold
  • energy from awesome runs this week (I ran 6 miles in under 50 minutes Tuesday!)
  • good music

I realized it has been awhile since I’ve shared the songs that inhabit my workout playlist. I often forego music during weights, the elliptical, and shorter runs – but, boy, do tunes make a difference for speed work and long runs! I now present you with…the FFF Song Superlatives!

Song That Makes Me Run Faster – Pour Some Sugar On Me (Def Leppard)

It also makes me think of my college days…

Song That Makes Me Want To Bust Out Singing – Your Love Is A Song (Switchfoot)

Seriously such a beautiful song.

Song That Never Gets Old – Baby Got Back (Sir Mix A Lot)

Song That Makes Me Feel 12 Years Old But Will Stay On My Playlist Because I Don’t Care I’m A Dork – Party In The USA (Miley Cyrus)

I’ll own my dorky ways.

Song That Puts A Smile On My Face – Just The Way You Are (Glee Cast version)

Song That Makes Me Want To Scream Because Shuffle Wants To Play It So Many Times It Drives Me Batty – Lose Yourself (Eminem)

And I can’t take it off until I re-update ALL my songs because I got a new hard drive and iTunes is ridiculous.

Song That Makes Me Want To Shake My Hips Mid Run – Escape (Pina Colada Song)

Can’t I be there right now???

Song I Know I Shouldn’t Like But Just Can’t Help Myself – TGIF (Katy Perry)

The lyrics are so bad, but the beat is so good for running.

  • What would your choices be for any of the song superlatives?
  • Does your shuffle like to play the same song way more often than others?

Club Can’t Handle Me ~ Flo Rida 🙂 Best running beat EV-ER

  2. Alexandra says:

Ahh I love your song choices! What a fun post! My most embarrassing hits are probably disco…it tends to make quite a few cameos in my workout playlists haha 😉

  3. Khushboo says:

My shuffle mode defo has its favourites! My song superlative would be “this song is so annoying but it has the best tempo beat to run to”: ‘Why Don’t You Love Me’ by Beyonce.

  4. Haha I love party in the USA too :). And I never put my songs on shuffle because I have so much music that I wouldn’t want to workout too..I just make a playlist before I exercise! Right now the song “Best Love Song” by T-Pain and Chris Brown really keeps me going and makes me go faster!

    • Tina says:

I have a “workout” playlist that is all my favorite workout songs – about 80 songs – and I will shuffle through that. If I have a day I’m in the mood for something specific I will pick and choose from that list and make a separate playlist for that race/workout. I like that it doesn’t have me making a playlist every workout or listening to the same one. 🙂

  5. They are cheesy but Katy Perry and Pink songs (also – embarrassingly – Avril Lavigne’s ‘Girlfriend’) really help me pick up momentum. My iPod has such embarrassing music on it, especially workout playlists.

  6. Your song choices are awesome! My shuffle likes to settle on the “cooldown” songs in my playlist – the ones that are GREAT for walking but SO. BAD. for my running mojo. “Angel” by Sarah McLachlan is one of those songs.

My fav songs for running are “Hurricane” by 30 Seconds to Mars and “Cochise” by Audioslave.

  7. I tend to listen to bands and artists that nobody knows, so listing my own superlatives would be kind of pointless. Or have you ever heard of a band called “Katzenjammer”? 😉
I never use the shuffle option, guess I’m a control freak.

    • Tina says:

      Oh, Katzenjammer!!! They’re my favorite!

      Sorry. I couldn’t help myself.

I bet they have good beats though since I know you kill your workouts. 🙂

  8. Kellie says:

Listen to Move by Mercyme. Great beat and I like songs that my daughter can listen to when she uses my shuffle too.

  9. I love that Katy Perry song!

I like anything that’s Black Eyed Peas to get me going.

Congrats on the great run! You’re going to do so well in the half marathon!

  10. Since I’m embracing this freezing cold/blustery weather we have this morning… song that never gets old – N Sync’s Merry Christmas Happy Holidays!! 🙂

  11. Therese says:

“Pour Some Sugar on Me” is by Def Leppard 🙂 and it also makes an appearance on my workout playlists from time to time.

I go through phases with my music. Lately I will make a playlist on Grooveshark while I do P90X in the garage and load it up with old school Britney. Hey, what can I say? I am a teeny bopper at heart!

  12. Kara says:

Haha, the first paragraph actually made me laugh out loud. 🙂 11 miles is no joke, no matter how many times you do it! Heck, I still don’t think running one mile is a joke either!

I love your running songs! I’ve been listening to a lot of country on my runs, but honestly I don’t listen to music for most of my runs. I only do that because my races don’t allow it and I don’t want to get too attached to it. Zac Brown Band has been my recent favorite for running songs! Also, old school Kid Rock which makes me regress to high school. 🙂

  13. I love Anastaia! I actually bought it online as a senior in high school and stayed up late the night it arrived to watch it. 🙂

I know exactly what you mean about music! My playlist used to be long enough but then I decided to run a marathon. 😉 now I’m buying song I turned down before but they have such a great beat.

I’m the only one who knows what’s on my playlist so it’s okay. 😉

  14. It’s a blacked out blur, but I’m pretty sure it ruled! Dayum!

  15. GREAT JOB GIRLY!!! You are awesome! I love seeing what you listen to and I try my hardest not to like TGIF too:)

  16. I have had baby got back on my ipod forever. LOVE 🙂

  17. Best song to run to – Born This Way by Lady Gaga 🙂

  18. I am so glad that I am not the only one with “Baby Got Back” on my running/workout playlist!

  19. Clarence says:

Today i spent 300 dollars for platinium roulette system , i
hope that i will make my first cash online
