The Biggest Fashion No-No
Posted: October 11, 2011 at 7:24 pmIf you found your way over here for the first time from my post on the DailySpark blog, I’m super excited you stopped by! Get acquainted by checking out a little more on what to expect when visiting FFF and who I am. Then, say hello so I can get to know you. If you’re a regular here at FFF, please check out my post on what motherhood taught me for a healthy lifestyle!
The outdoors this morning didn’t look too welcoming.
Blah. Dreary. Drizzly. Grey. Enough reason to stay in cozy wear. You already know I am not a fashionista by any stretch of the imagination, but this piece takes the cake!
The Italian Virgin Mary sweatshirt. It’s the biggest joke of a Christmas gift Peter received last year (gotta love random family presents!), but so soft.
Peter and I take turns wearing it and laughing at each other for the sheer ridiculousness of this fashion statement. Love ya, Mary…but you’re not exactly my fashion style. Makes for some good laughs at the very least!
Despite my super attractive get-up, I didn’t opt to laze about. I felt better about getting productive while so comfortable. The kids and I cranked up the music and made our way through the house, cleaning up a bit as we went along the way. With breaks for dancing along the way.
It appears Makenzie has a serious affinity for the oldies. Okay, kid. Have at the Beatles. I wish I had some video footage of our dancing shenanigans – especially of yesterday’s disco dance party! My mom would be so proud. She’s a former disco dancer. No joke!
Can’t you see it?
As the day went on, I eventually got my butt out of the sloppy wear. First for a run and then to look presentable for sister night.
Dinner tonight honored a craving of Peter’s. We just recently got another share of meat from our local source and he had a hankering to use some in tonight’s dinner.
He pulled out a top round roast to defrost and then cooked it up this afternoon. Once he got it to the perfect medium doneness, he sliced it thin to layer up on a baguette with some sautéed peppers and onions plus some provolone cheese. I guess you could call it a mock Philly cheesesteak?
Okay. Not really. But it was still good. Really good. I honestly think I can tell the difference in the quality of our meat. Or at least I can feel better about knowing the source. I served it up with some roasted green beans because we shall eat our weight in green beans this week.
That’s what happens when you find a 5 pound bag of green beans on sale. I don’t mind one bit. We have quite a bit of steak left too. Which means I know what I will be having for lunch tomorrow.
Sister night with The Biggest Loser is calling my name now. Let’s see if the teams can take down Bob this week.
- Do you have a family member who always seems to find the most interesting “treasures” to give as gifts? Any good ones to share?
- What’s a way you try to help cleaning house more fun?

My aunt used to come up with the most age inappropriate gifts to give. From the age of 5 – 11, she would give me different types of crystal ware for Xmas. It was hideous stuff, but it was all things she loved.
Then the year I turned 12, I opened her give and thought it was a nice sweater (for once a great gift!). As I lifted it out of the box I realized that it was a pair of footie pajamas! With a panel in the back to go the bathroom!
First, footie pajamas for a 12 year old? Second, where could you possibly buy footie pajamas in a size appropriate for a 12 year old? Third, it totally wasn’t a gag gift because she didn’t really have a sense of humor. I’m still scratching my head over that one.
I busted out laughing when I read your comment! Those are some mysterious gifts. Makes me wonder what she gives you now! LOL
Ha! Ask Jess about the ‘lamb sweater’ – totally came to mind when you posted this picture of the sweatshirt!! Such a riot. And my stomach growled on cue reading about dinner…my body is all outta whack at work in California this week, and I can’t wait for dinner!
That sweater is HILARIOUS! 😀 I’m not too original – I like to crank up the tunes to clean too. When I was “audio-reading” The Help, it was great to clean to as well.
One of the gifts that’s made its way through at least my dad’s side of the family is an old swimming suit. A man’s one-piece suit, a la the original Cheaper by the Dozen. It’s kind of the “newlywed” gift: whoever’s newly married gets it. We had it for quite a while…
We give gag gifts sometimes on Mom’s side, too. One year my dad got an old busted-up boat propeller, to remind him of the time that year he busted my uncle’s boat. This year my one cousin-in-law might get candles for Christmas after having trouble lighting the candles at another cousin’s wedding. My sister and one uncle have given each other the same piece of coal each year for a couple of years. It started probably three or four years ago, when our uncle told her he was going to give her coal if he got her name in Secret Santa. I think she ended up with his name, and gave him coal. I don’t remember who got it last year, but it’s fun to look forward to. 🙂
Music usually helps with cleaning for me, too. 🙂
Bahaha that sweater is amazing! My sisters and I “share” a rediculous purple poncho just for laughs 🙂
Glad to see you got out of pj’s eventually! Better than me! I’m at rehearsal now and still in them! 😉
I’m loving that sweatshirt! We have family members who give gifts that we all laugh about! We have a couple treasures we pass around from year to year and no one ever knows who will end up with them. We always wrap them up as nice as we can so the person who is going to get them is completely unsuspecting! It’s always such a good laugh!
i LOVE tacky christmas sweaters!! all the religious orgs at vandy used to throw christmas parties where tacky christmas apparel was required. they’d give out awards at the end of the night for best outfits! it was always so fun! i totally feel you on not wanting to get out of PJs when it rains… also, when i’m studying. leggings are my favorite way of not being in PJs, but not actually being dressed 😉
I have always wanted to go to a tacky Christmas sweater party!
Congrats on the guest blogging spot at SparkPeople! And reading you earned me another 3 SparkPoints, LOL.
I have fallen victim to the worst fashion crime extant: hideous shoes. It started back in college with my Birks. Those were a gateway shoe, because at least I could pretend I was pleasantly bohemian. Never mind the fact that for me, “roughing it” consists of having to drag converters along for my hair dryer. I was hip! I almost even ate granola! But now, at age 41, I’m wearing the dreaded Easy Spirit loafers. I even own them in both brown and black.
They are hideous. And my feet have never been so happy.
Hahaha love the sweatshirt! Too funny!
I am all about crankin’ the tunes when cleaning the house too. I usually clean the house by myself when my husband is at work or working outside so I’ll occasionally break out into my own little dance/singing sesh. 😉
Haha oh my gosh that sweater is HILARIOUS! My dad and uncle pass back and forth this knitted orange sleeveless vest sweater every Christmas and it definitely looks like it should be sold right alongside this Mary sweater!
Oh, man. That shirt is fabulous.
In my family, we have “Aunt Sophie.” She is a fictional aunt that buys really special Christmas gifts, complete with a long letter explaining why the gift is *perfect* for the recipient. Jon got an apple-shaped disco ball ornament one year, my first year teaching I got a really special matronly dress, you get the idea.
Aunt Sophie started when my uncle got a horrible, ugly, extremely tacky lamp and gave it to my aunt and her new husband as a wedding gift and signed the card “Love, Aunt Sophie.” The first fight of their married life was about whose aunt she was. It was months before my uncle came clean! 🙂
That is too funny! What a fun family tradition.
Blasting music always helps when it comes to cleaning the house. This is why it’s best when I just clean by myself – might have to stop and bust a few moves along the way 😉
Oh wow. That sweatshirt is amazing. Is it bad I would wear that and not think it a joke? 🙂
LOL! i want that sweat shirt. too funny! we have a big russian coat that is ridiculous. we pass it around the family during the holidays. Not sure why it cracks us up so much but it does. Oh gotta love family!
haha I love the gift. In the Husban’d sfamily, there is a golf putter and ball statue that has been making its way around the family for years. I am awlays excited to see who ends up with it at Christmas – as long as it’s not me again!
Bahaha, that sweatshirt is awesome. It is almost as bad as the wolf shirt (I’m sure you know the one).
I definitely use music to make house cleaning ALMOST fun!
I make cleaning fun by… not cleaning. Instead I have fun.
I need a LOVE button for this comment 🙂
I wish I had a secret for making cleaning fun but for me, blasting some good music is all it takes to get the job done! Cleaning is a bit like running- the initial few minutes are painful but once I get into the swing of it, I don’t want to stop!

+1
Oh comfiest clothes are nearly always ugly!
I have a relative who pretty much always gives hilarious presents, animal shaped egg cups, a folding apple shaped fruit bowl and a squirrel nutcracker 😛
I have loads of green beans too!
My sister, Ele and I love to give each other thrift store gifts. Not junk, just things we gotten for Really good prices or even from the Dollar store. It doesn’t matter as long as it’s something you know the person will like! Ralph always gets mad because we always talk about how cheap our gifts are. It’s a Sister thing…he wouldn’t understand! 😉
I’ve been watching out for your guest post ever since you told me about it coming up:) Nice job, Tina!!
In my opinion, dance breaks make cleaning SO much more doable 😉
I have read so many content on the topic of the blogger lovers except this paragraph is actually a good article,
keep it up.
