Low Key Memorial Day

Posted: June 1, 2010 at 5:13 pm

I’m baaaaccckkk! Did you all miss me? As much as I enjoyed unplugging over our Memorial Day Weekend trip to the mountains, I did miss being involved in the world of blogging. I feel so out of the loop! I’ll try to catch up with everyone as much as possible soon. I hate to think how much I’ll miss blogging when I am gone with no Internet access for 10 days! Please don’t leave me all of you fabulous readers! You really put a smile on a girl’s face…especially when she is still feeling sick as all get out 80% of the time. Yes, I still don’t feel so great. But I’m surviving and was still able to enjoy myself this weekend. Care to see what I did? I hope so because that is what this post is about. 😉

Friday

I spent the morning in the bathroom, the afternoon on the couch, and somehow managed to pack up for our trip and get a Flashback Friday post up showing my baby bump progression from my pregnancy with baby M. We left at around 6:30 to hit the road for the pretty easy drive to Ellijay in the North Georgia Mountains.

I was so happy when we finally made it to our cabin. It looks small but it had 6 bedrooms, a hot tub, a pool table, and plenty of room for the 8 adults and 4 kids in our clan. Friday night was all about getting unpacked and settled before relaxing with good conversation and company for the night.

Saturday

Saturday was a little more eventful. We searched the surrounding area for a hike to go on that would be suitable with little kiddos and had some pretty views. We found a good sounding one that had some waterfalls and was a short hike in.

We got M settled in the hiking pack and made our way up to the waterfalls.

IMGP4213 IMGP4272

The waterfall was smaller than we expected, but it was still nice because you were able to walk out to it easily. Makenzie even got the chance to touch it.

IMGP4259

We then all packed back up to head back down and go to a little country restaurant we found for lunch.

IMGP4284

It was along the river and had such a charming feel to it with all the country style decorations. Well, besides the stuffed animals all over the place. They could have done without that.

Continuing with my nothing-healthy-sounds-appetizing food aversions and first trimester eating habits, I ordered some chicken tenders, sweet potato fries, and coleslaw. It was delicious. Probably only because I was SO hungry after it took them an hour to get our food.

The remainder of the day consisted of naps and watching the kids use pool noodles for the best entertainment out of the many toys they had access to.

IMGP4332 (Large)

As well as cooking out and playing some games with Heather’s Insanity Bars to fuel us at night.

Sunday

Sunday was extremely low key. We took our time waking up and getting the day started. I even slept in until 9:00 which is unheard of for me. I honestly don’t remember how we filled our morning. After lunch, however, we headed to the pool and playground that was part of the cabin rental community. The girls all had a blast and Makenzie adored the pool.

Of course she loved the playground too. There was swinging involved and wooden bears she could high five, so how could she not love it?

The night was spent much the same as the previous one – eating and relaxing.

Monday

We did a mad dash of packing up the excess of stuff you bring on a vacation when you travel with 4 kids ages two and under to be able to make our 11:00 check out time. Then, headed home. I caught up on some emails and crashed on the couch out of exhaustion and the worst nausea so far. We still had to head over to Peter’s parents’ house to pick up our dog and also let them in on the pregnancy news. They were shocked and excited. I’m thankful it was a quick visit so we could get home and pop in a movie with some pizza. You would think I would be craving veggies after eating so little. Normally I would, but not when the sight of them make me want to dry heave. So, the lackluster in the nutrition department eats continue. I only have about 6 more weeks of this. Lucky me! 😀

  • Tell me the best part of your weekend! I really want to know since I haven’t been able to catch up on blogs much yet.
  • What is your favorite thing to do on a vacation? Do you like to be busy or just do nothing?

aww your poor thing!!! Its pretty crazy the food aversion thing – i remember it with my daughter – but like you said hang in there and soon you won’t want to dry heave so much!!!haha!!

Just a question i love your hiking backpack that you can put M in – where did you get it?

    hannah
    🙂

  2. M is just too cute in the pool!

And thats how I feel about veggies everyday. 🙂

  3. It looks like you had a nice and relaxing holiday!

I’m a big fan of mixing busy/relaxation. I love going out and seeing stuff, but this girl also requires a day or two at the beach/pool. That’s just how I roll… 😉

  4. I love being busy AND relaxing- I guess it depends on the vacation mostly. I get bored just sitting around, but I also really appreciate having nothing to do. Glad you had a fun weekend!

  5. I really don’t like the stuffed animals either. They really freak me out 😉

  6. Hallie says:

Missed ya! This weekend I read and laid around like a bum. It was lovely.

  7. erica says:

Oh my gosh your family is adorable! What a great weekend! I love holiday weekends!

  8. Kati says:

We had a great weekend at the lake and I too ate junk food 🙂 We had pizza last night also! Baron’s frozen…not bad, not bad :> My favorite part was riding the tube at the lake! Hope your nausea eases up sooner rather than later! I’m waiting for mine to go away too!

  9. homecookedem says:

Everything you ate looks GOOD to me!! That cabin is so charming looking! Glad you had a nice weekend!! Can’t wait to see you TOMORROW!! I already know what I’m ordering… well, at least I think I do… 😉

  10. Looks like a great time! My favorite part of the weekend was the amazing food we cooked. Which also happens to be my favorite thing to do on vacation: EATING!! 😀

  11. Welcome back! That cabin looks so nice. I love getting away like that. My weekend was soooo packed full of fun. Oh, don’t worry, I’ll be waiting for you after your 10-day hiatus!

  12. Jennifer says:

We have friends in Ellijay! We stayed there one night and it really is beautiful. As far as vacations go, I like to relax, but I also like to explore the area such as trails or nearby restaurants and shopping stores. Girl I gotta tell ya, I started baby-sitting my friends 3 year old and 9 month old girls last week. I get them once a week from 8am-5 p.m. while their mom does clinicals. The girls are absolutely amazing and I had a blast but it is exhausting! After the first day of having them, I woke up feeling like I had done 100 bicep curls on my left arm for holding the baby. How much age difference will be between M and the new baby?

  13. Sarah says:

    Your vacation sounds great!
Some of my favorite parts of the weekend include quite a bit of strawberry picking, writing, and enjoying time with family.
On vacation, I like a mix of fun things to do and being able to just do nothing. Your vacation sounds perfect!

  14. Holly says:

That truly sounds like the perfect weekend! What a gorgeous cabin, and ALL the food looks delicious. Especially those bars. I’m seriously gonna have to check those babies out.

On vacations, I kind of like to be busy AND relax. Too much of either is, just….well…too much! I kind of like the best of both worlds. 🙂

  15. Ameena says:

What a great holiday! I find vacations with Maya super stressful so I don’t know how you stay so calm and relaxed.

I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well still! I hope the fresh air helped things. I’m sure you’ve heard this about 100 times but have you tried ginger? Its supposed to work miracles on morning sickness.

  16. Lee says:

I’ve never been to Elljiay but it looks very pretty. I like low key vacations. When I was younger, I wanted to be busy, busy, busy but now I relish the relaxation time.

  17. Heather says:

sounds like a fun weekend but sorry about the nausea!
I have an aversion to veggies an I am NOT pregnant, haha!

  18. Shannon says:

What a beautiful cabin! I’m glad you got to do so much, despite feeling sick. I can’t wait to take our little one hiking in a baby backpack!

  19. Lindsay says:

Fun Fun Fun! I love the mountains. My parents life near Ellijay. It’s beautiful.

  20. I love the north georgia and Tennessee mountains 🙂 Looks like you guys had a great vacay 🙂

  21. I like to relax on vacation. It looks like you guys had a great time!

  22. Rachel says:

The best part of my weekend was just getting to spend some quality time with my wonderful boyfriend. We did all kinds of stuff but it was just great to be with him for three days without work or anything in the way. 🙂

I like to explore my surroundings while on vacation. I have a hard time relaxing because I don’t want to miss out on anything while I am there! I come back from trips EXHAUSTED, but its worth it to me!

  23. Totally missed you! But I am glad you got to spend some quality time with your family!!! I like to be on vacation and just unplug. I tend to get so caught up in my stresses of life that on vacation it allows me to put things into perspective and focus on what is truly important!

  24. Oh do I ever feel your pain. The last couple of days I have been having 24/7 morning sickness. I have not gotten sick yet but I feel like I can anytime I move. I think I have eaten more carbs in the last few days than I usually eat in a week. We just did a big grocery shop on Sunday before I started feeling so yucky and now I have a refrigerator full of produce that I will be lucky if it gets touched before it goes bad.
Hope you are feeling better soon and your weekend looks like it was a good one (minus the sickness).

  25. Best parts of my weekend were camping and seeing friends and family. Worst parts – spraining my toes and falling down the stairs. Doesn’t get much worse than that right? Your trip looks great. That hiking trail looks like it was really cute with the waterfall and all and the cabin looks gorgeous. But you’re right – it doesn’t look like it fits 6 bedrooms in it!

  26. camping was a blast, but i loved just sitting back and taking in the gorgeous views 🙂 i wasn’t in love with our friend’s kids waking us up in the middle of the night crying because the blanket was twisted though…

  27. Sounds like a great Memorial Weekend! I’m loving M’s lil curls that she is getting–so cute!

Oh, and PS–your camera looks GREAT! it’s taking amazing pictures.

  28. Amanda Estes says:

My husband and I moved into our new townhome Memorial Day weekend – I did take a little break and go to the pool – it was very nice but it is getting too hot here in Texas! That looks like a great cabin to stay at and relax! I’m all about a relaxing vacation on the beach – my fave! God Bless!

  29. ellie says:

That high-five picture is awesome! I LOVE your cabin!!!! Gorgeous 😀 Sounds like a great weekend…sometimes just kicking back and going with the flow is the best way to have fun.

My favourite vacations are in cities that I can explore with no set schedule/places to be- I love just wandering around streets, getting lost and stumbling upon random stores/cafes.

My weekend was spent resting my ankle. Haha, I kind of wish I had something exciting to say in response to this question…was relaxing and surprisingly pleasant considering I am generally a go-go-go kind of person!

  30. Aww I hope you feel better sooner than 6 weeks! My highlight was getting away to my parents lake house with my husband, friends, parents, brother and aunt/uncle I haven’t seen in WAY to many years. Fishing was pretty fun too 🙂

  31. Nicole, RD says:

Faithful readers never leave, promise! Your weekend looked wonderful! I am all about doing nothing while on vacation…with a little exercise for sanity 🙂

Thanks for your kind words on my health woes, I really appreciate it 🙂
