never say never

Posted: July 15, 2010 at 6:00 pm

I have learned many things over the course of my short life. Lessons such as not spitting into the wind or eating yellow snow have proved invaluable. Haven’t they for you?!?! One even greater, however, reminds me that I should never say never. Such a gem of a lesson applies to all things in life.

  • Your wellness – never say you will never get past body image, eating, motivation, etc issues. You CAN and with the right mindset and approach you will. I learned that when I busted through my binging issues years ago and continue seeing improvements in how I view and love myself every day.
  • Your goals – never say you will never reach a goal. A positive mindset can help you achieve the desired outcome. I never thought I would compete in a fitness competition. I did. And I will continue to work towards new goals with the trust they are worth it. Like my first article or becoming group fitness/personal training certified after this pregnancy.
  • Motherhood – never say your child will never watch TV. I simply have to succumb to the virtual babysitter once a day for a mental break right now. I’m okay with that now. After all, my under two daughter already knows all her letters and can count to ten.
  • Social Media – never say you will never join Twitter. I succumbed to the call today and am officially tweeting my life away. That’s not a bad thing. Until my husband decides I will have to choose between the computer and him. Don’t worry. He will win in a heartbeat. But..c’mon! It was love at first tweet!

And now a shameless plug – please click on my Twitter Button to the left side of the screen to follow me. Or you can just click here. Another life lesson? If someone puts a cherry on top, you simply cannot say no.

And I could buddy up with Ghandi today because I have yet another important lesson to share. I tweeted about it earlier.

twitter

Despite my new styling gel that could rival (Something About) Mary’s, I had a much better day today. I always knew that allowing adults to get under your skin ended up giving the other person the control they wanted. Why wouldn’t this work on toddlers? It does. She got over her “look at me and how naughty I am,” “I’m bored and want to get a rise out of you,” and “ watching your face turn red is funny” moments much quicker today. And I learned cleaning a messy table takes less time than picking yourself up from a mental breakdown. Success!

Now for some advice I don’t have…and  that my ole buddy Ghandi can’t quite give. You all didn’t let me down with your suggestions on what to pick from CSN Stores. There were many recommendations for a quality blender, food processor, or griddle/grill/panini press…all of which we already have. Then a few mentioned a spiralizer and that caught my eye. I finally decided a tofu press would be the best thing to go for…only to find out they don’t have one on their site. I will still take any suggestions you have!

I also need fashion help. Where would you recommend shopping for some nice, relatively inexpensive (like $50 range or less) dresses? I need two dresses that will suit my growing belly to wear to the wedding and rehearsal we are attending in a month. I have looked at Ann Taylor Loft and NY& Co with no real winners. I’m hitting the stores again Saturday with my sister and want to know of some good places to check into. Help!

Now give me a comment..

  • CSN stores product to choose?
  • Good store to shop at for dresses?
  • Do you Twitter? If so, where can I find you if I haven’t already?

  1. oh girl, i said i’d never be on twitter too…and 2,900 tweets later here i am 😉

  2. homecookedem says:

Haha, I’m still saying I’ll never do twitter, but I guess never say never! 😉

I buy my clothes mostly from Kohl’s, Target, Ann Taylor Loft, and Old Navy. My mom told me Kohl’s is having a sale on maternity clothes right now (when aren’t they having a sale though??), so you might want to check in there.

  3. So glad you made it to twitter. I already followed you!!! Now I’m waiting on you to start tweeting 😉

Dresses – I’m sure you don’t want to break the bank (if you’re anything like me on those sorts of things) have you tried Target or Kohl’s?

  4. Yay!!! I saw you added me on Twitter today! 🙂 Glad you came to the dark side 😉
I like Banana Republic, Von Maur, and Nordstrom for dresses!

    • Tina says:

Oh! Nordstrom Off the Rack might be a perfect place! Plain ole Nordstrom is probably too $$$ for me right now. Boo. 🙁

  5. Mandy says:

LOL I still haven’t gotten the complete love of twitter and prefer facebook overall 🙂

    • Tina says:

I have a feeling you will be missing me on Facebook. Not that I was ever there that much anyways. But we will always have chat!

  6. I find my dresses at either Express (google the coupons) or TJ Maxx/Marshalls… you can always find something cute for a decent price!

  7. Run Sarah says:

I totally believe in the ‘never say never’ concept as well. You never know! I love buying dresses for summer at American Eagle and work appropriate ones at Banana Republic.

  8. I just tweeted you about never saying never on twitter.

I’d get a spiralizer. Those things look amazing.

That being said, Im using my CSN to get a blender since I wont have one at my new place.

  9. you know what my hubs calls the “moo-moo” style of dresses, long, flowey, tons of fabric are all the rage…go to like a forever 21 type place and buy a large and rock the bump underneath! it will be $20 or less

    or target’s maternity

or even non-maternity stuff that you can fit into…anything flowey will work i would think, right?! everything is sooo flowey and big right now from what i have seen, i think youre in biz!

    • Tina says:

I’m really hoping to get something non maternity that is flowy in a bigger size. I certainly will rock the bump though! Thanks for the suggestions. All great!

  10. Ameena says:

I succombed to Twitter at my husband’s request. I think he was embarassed his wife didn’t tweet. I’ve found it is a great way to get results when you have customer service problems! Nice bonus.

Have you checked out Old Navy’s maternity? I didn’t like spending a ton of money on stuff I had no intention of wearing much so I stuck to Old Navy and Target’s Maternity section. And like Averie I bought a few things from Forever 21, just in a larger size. I can’t say I looked fantastic but I was pretty respectable. Good luck Tina!!

  11. I want to be active on twitter but it really seems to not work in Africa!!! Like seriously, it just does not work. The website will load, but you cannot update it. Which makes the whole concept of twitter kind of pointless for me… I am still working on it though! My twitter is @calev and the new one that I made for my blog and wanted to switch over to is @CourtPancakes… I will be tweeting more in my next life 🙂

    • Tina says:

I’m following you on the @calev one right now. I will look for when you do get to post again more…in your “next life”. Haha! Although I bet it will feel like that when the time comes with everything being so different.

  12. Kimberly says:

I have learned to never say never-lol!

  13. For dresses, how about looking at Kohl’s for babydoll type dresses that you could wear after the baby gets here?

    • Tina says:

I really hope to find something like that! I want it to be something I can wear later. Especially since I will only be around 4 months pregnant at the wedding. Kohl’s seems like a good place. So many are recommending it.

  14. Nichole says:

Well hello tweetheart! Target has some amazing summer dresses, and evidently JC Penney is stepping it up now too!

  15. Oh yay! I am definitely going to follow you. I am runnerkelly! As for dresses….what about Target? They have a good maternity line! 🙂 So glad you are going to be a twitter girl now!

  16. Becky says:

Hi there! I absolutely love your blog, I feel like it’s so “real” if that makes any sense. 🙂

I have a quick question. My family just relocated from Florida to South Carolina (yay for living in the South!) and we’re looking for a church to join. Years ago we went to a Lutheran church but then one thing led to another with family illnesses and problems that we stopped going all together. We want to start back up here in SC especially since we made some of our closest and truest friends at church. The only problem we’re having is trying to figure out which denomination (or even a nondenominational) we would most prefer. The reason I’m asking you for your denomination suggestion is because your beliefs and values seem to most resemble ours so maybe you could give us an idea of which denomination would be best for us?

    Thank you!
    ~Becky

    • Tina says:

Happy to help! We go to a Methodist church but neither my husband or I were involved in that community beforehand. We simply tried out the church and loved the environment it brought. The church’s motto stuck out to us as well – “Helping to support each other to become the person God created you to be through worshipping, growing your life, and serving the world”. I suggest doing a web search and browsing different churches in the area and then taking a couple months to go around and see what fits. Be sure to try to talk to a guest relations person at each one too. I hope you find a great new church home. I know it is really important!

  17. Dang-I was such a Twitter basher…but now I find myself more and more intrigued by it! Maybe I will make the leap and become a convert… 😉

As far as dress shopping goes-some of my favorite “go-to” places are Target, Forever 21, and American Eagle. They are all very college-budget friendly and you can always find something fun!

  18. Jess says:

I’m all about this mantra – never say never is awesome!! I am SO behind you on becoming a group fitness instructor after you have your baby, you will ROCK it I promise 🙂 And Yay, we’re already following eachother on twitter!

    • Tina says:

I get so excited already thinking about getting into group fitness! Sharing healthy living and fitness with others is such a passion of mine. I can’t wait to further my involvement. 🙂

  19. Bree says:

I said I would never join twitter either – but it’s so fun and totally not what people think it is. I am following you 🙂

For dresses I expect to only wear once or twice, I go to Forever 21. Super cheap, trendy, and they seem to fit me pretty well. I have also had good luck at H&M.

  20. […] Now, I’m so excited to bust out the yoga mat for a free 25 minute session courtesy of Yoga Download and to be one day closer to Saturday. Fun things happening around these parts tomorrow. One of which will be shopping. Thanks again for all your dress shopping suggestions!! […]

  21. Samantha says:

    I added you 🙂
