eat oats, pray for bargains, love spin

Posted: August 17, 2010 at 12:00 pm

Happy Tuesday! Did you all make it through Monday okay? I did and now it's time to get my busy schedule kicked off. I already applied some of the tips I use to keep sane during busy times. Starting with last night.

I made it to the 5:30 pm spin class on time! I got there about 15 minutes early to grab a bike. Thank goodness I did because, shortly after,  the class filled up again. I needed a good workout and some me-time. The class fit the bill perfectly. I left feeling accomplished and ready to relax.

What better way to relax than with a special book? Eat, Pray, Love became available for me at the library this week. Finally!

I have played the patient patron for about 5 months. I’m guessing the movie made it have a long waiting list. Ironically, I’m kind of bummed to be reading the book right at the cusp of the book being a big deal from the movie. I don’t read things to follow trends. I read them because they interest me and I hope to get something out of the words scripted across the pages. I’m certain this book will spark lots of thoughts in my rambling mind. I’ll be sure to share what I think might interest you all…without going on about things already mentioned everywhere else.

This morning, I took time to prepare a hearty and healthy breakfast to help jump start my day. I broke open a new jar of my favorite nut butter. Skippy All Natural Honey.

IMGP6145

I like the fancier nut butters too, but this one remains on top thanks to its cost friendliness. I used the peanut butter to top a bowl of oats. With some tropical mix dried fruit mixed in. Yum!

Now, I have some snacks packed up (a Luna Bar + banana) along with my laundry basket (to serve as my shopping cart). It’s time for me to chase after those bargains. This sale is crrrraaazzzyyy! I really hope to shop quick and beat the 3 hour wait to check out that comes in the afternoon. M better know how much I love her.

  • Have you read Eat, Pray, Love? Would you care to hear about my thoughts on it or not really because people already discuss it so much? You can be honest!
  • What’s your favorite nut butter?
  • Be sure to check out the 30 Days of Self-Love challenge coming to my site in September! And don’t forget to let me know if you added my button or shared the challenge on your blog. :)

  1. That is the best post title ever!!!!!!

I haven’t read Eat, Pray, Love, but I would love to hear your thoughts!

  2. oh girl, this book will TOTALLY get you thinking! i’m a little over halfway through, and i love it BECAUSE it makes me think! plus it’s a great, well-written story. i can’t wait to finish and then go see the movie!

  3. Angela says:

I haven’t read the book but based on some of what I’ve heard I don’t think I want to. It might be a case though where I have to see for myself.

I’m really excited for you September 30 Days of Self-Love challenge. I definitely need to spend more time with self reflection. Thanks for doing this!

  4. Heather says:

I read Eat Pray Love and it was okaaaay. There were some decent nuggets of wisdom, but there was too much glorification of mystical spirituality in it for me to truly enjoy. It just didn’t sit well with my spirit.
On to the less controversial topic-nutbutters 🙂
My fave is Smuckers natural-chunky style 🙂

    • Tina says:

I am a little “hmmm….” already about how she defines God and everything. I’ve read quite a few books like that. I try to look past it I guess to the other things presented in the novel. I can see how the mystical stuff could get overdone though.

  5. Becky says:

I just got my copy of Eat, Pray, Love. The opinions of it are so varied. I am curious to get reading and see what it’s like.

I am desperately devoted to Teddie’s. Simple, unsalted, creamy, and delicious! I love fancy nut butters, but I couldn’t survive without Teddie’s

  6. I’d like to hear your thoughts on it! I read it, it was ok, some parts I loved, some were very hard to get through!

  7. Jennifer says:

I love the library, but I had to borrow the book from a friend. It has taken me forever to get through it. I love it and I am relishing the read.

  8. Hey girl! 5 months!!! Geez, had I known you wanted to read it, I would have mailed it to you! I have it:)

I read *most* of it, but just couldn’t seem to stay interested toward the end so I don’t know what ends up happening. I guess if you did a review you could solve that mystery for me! HAHA!

My favorite nut butter IN THE WORLD is MaraNatha Macadamia Nut Butter. Dear heavens, it is one of the most amazing nut butters I’ve ever had, but needs to come with a warning label because it’s so addicting (as are most nut butters!) 🙂

  9. Rachel says:

LOVED the book. Going to see the movie tonight with two of my girlfriends!

Glad you had a good spin class. I did a weights class last night and I am feeling it EVERYWHERE today.

  10. EPL was ok, I think I liked the first half the best. Some of it was a bit *yawn* for me.

Peanut butter is by far my fav.. but cashew comes in close!

  11. Bree says:

I want to read the book before I see the movie. I am usually disappointed in movies made from books though.

I am with ya on the nut butters. I love Maranatha almond, but we also get Jif Natural for my husband and I eat it a lot, too! It is much more cost effective especially if you eat it a lot 🙂

  12. Camille says:

PB with honey!? That sounds fantastic!
My favorite nut butter is peanut butter but I love when it is infused with another flavor. I recently had both caramel PB and banana PB and I about dies with happiness 🙂

  13. I haven’t read EPL and I don’t really plan on it. I’ve heard positive and negative things about the book and I think I might wait until the hype is over before reading it. But I like reading opinions on it, so please write about what you think!

My fave nut butter is Jif. Yep. Regular old Jif with all the hydrogenated oils. I don’t but it anymore, but its still my favorite! Now I get almond butter from TJs or Maranatha PB. I recently won a few packs of Justins nut butter, I’m excited to give them a try!

  14. Molly says:

That book, hands down, changed my life. I read it when it first came out, before it was “popular” and I think it was something I really needed to hear at the time.
    Enjoy it 🙂

  15. Enjoy the bargain chasing! Hope you find some great deals. I have not read that book and am totally with you on reading something because I want to not as a trend. For value, I really like Earth Balance, plus you don’t have to stir it.

  16. Michelle says:

Hi! I added the 30 days of self-love button to my blog 🙂

I liked EPL. I read it when it first came out, but I remember identifying with her struggles with enjoying food and spirituality. Everyone’s got their own preference though so I don’t mind when people say they don’t like it. To each her own 🙂

  17. Nichole says:

I need to get on the Eat, Pray band wagon. I’m sure the book will be better than the movie.

I love almond butter right now!

  18. I have not read the book and I’m not sure if I plan to yet. I won’t buy it because I’m afraid I really don’t support the author.

I have an automatic opposition to stories like this that seem to fly in the face of commitment and family.

That being said, you are right in that there are so many different opinions, but I think that’s exactly why you should add your own!

  19. I really enjoyed Eat, Pray, Love! It will really make you think, even if you don’t agree with all of her views. I read it when it first came out, and am now reading it again for my book club. We’re going to see the movie this week. 🙂

  20. Mac says:

I tried reading it a number of months ago, but I just didn’t get into it. I’m not sure if I just wasn’t focusing on what I was reading or what. Normally if I don’t get into a book I will try again later.

  21. I just started reading this book today. I got it over the weekend – not because of the movie – since I had finished my other stack of books and it was time to restock from my list. I have no plans to see the movie.

By the way, I really like your site. It is nice seeing and getting tips from others about healthy living and about life in general.

  22. Katie H says:

I’m glad you were able to get the book today! I think you will really enjoy it. I would love to hear your thoughts on it!

My fave nut butter is Peanut Butter & Co Mighty Maple. Or dark chocolate dreams. It’s hard to pick just one!

    • Tina says:

I badly want to try Mighty Maple but can never find it at my normal grocery stores. I don’t want to trek to Whole Foods for it either.

  23. I haven’t read it, but I am curious what you will think of it. I am kinda scared to because I don’t always go with the hype. I am with you on the nut butters! I love barney butter, but I normally go for the natural peanut butters at a cheaper price. I have Jif right now, but Skippy is always in the rotation. Glad you got in your class last night! Definitely makes for a great ending to the day!

  24. My book club read “Eat Pray Love” a few years ago, and I was one of the few in the group who liked it. Parts of it spoke to me for some reason (but right now I can’t remember why).

I like peanut butter and almond butter … but the almond butter is so much more expensive that I usually get whatever PB is on sale.

  25. I’ll be really interested to hear what you think about the book! I have to be honest– I wasn’t crazy about it!! I know that saying that is kind of heresy or something, but Gilbert kind of got on my nerves, lol.

  26. I havent read EAt Pray Love but I saw it. and honestly, I was dissapointed. Im glad that I saw it, but parts were pretty boring and I doubt ID wanna see it again!

  27. I really enjoyed reading Eat Pray Love. The movie was quite different than the book but still pretty good.
I have been to Italy so I really loved hearing about her travels in the first part of the book.
I’m curious to hear what you think of the book.

  28. I loved the book AND the movie, which is apparantly quite controversial. I wrote a review of the movie: http://eatmovewrite.com/2010/08/15/eat-pray-love-the-movie-a-review/.

I would love to hear what you think of the book? I’m interested to hear the different sides of the Eat Pray love debate. 🙂

  29. I always want to hear peoples thoughts. I liked the Eat section but could’ve done without on the Pray & Love sections. 😉

  30. homecookedem says:

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the book. I haven’t read it yet and something tells me I probably won’t be reading it any time soon, so I can just read your recaps in the meantime! 😉

My current favorite nut butter is maranatha almond butter.

  31. Sarah says:

I’ve tried quite a few nut butters, and I think my VERY favorite is Smucker’s natural peanut butter (closely followed by coconut butter).

  32. Matt says:

My favorite nut butter will always be Earth Balance creamy. It isn’t too expensive, but it is seriously amazing.

That book is on my to read list!

  33. LOVED the book! Haven’t see the movie yet, but I adore Julia Roberts so I’m excited for it!

  34. Dorry says:

I haven’t read the book but my mom has it so maybe I’ll borrow it from her. 🙂 I’ve heard mixed reviews about the movie however…

I love any form of natural almond or peanut butter – my favorite is probably the grind-your-own at Whole Foods. so good.

  35. Lee says:

I know I’m in the minority, but I didn’t like it that much and it certainly wasn’t life changing for me. I liked the Eat part the most.

  36. […] Howdy blog pals! I figured I would throw that in there since I’m a southern gal and all. Even though I never say it in real life. Or even “y’all” for that matter. Enough greetings talk. I need to mention that I had no clue Eat, Pray, Love evoked many strong feelings of like or dislike for the book and what it shares. I’m only about 30 or so pages in and enjoy it so far. Nothing life altering and nothing “come onnnnn” about it yet for me. I will certainly open my perspective up for your viewing pleasure as I work my way through. I’m interested to see what I will think of it myself after all the comments from today’s earlier post! […]

  37. Ameena says:

People will probably hate me for saying this but I really disliked this book! I found it whiny and the author seemed a bit too self absorbed for my liking. But that’s just me…lots of people loved it!

  38. Krystal says:

i just finished EPL last week. i had to wait a long time for the library to get it in, too, and I also don’t like to read something because it’s “trendy.” Although, the movie trailer is what made me think I might like it.

I did, but I’ll admit, I thought the “eat” and “love” parts were not nearly as interesting as the “pray” part.

I’d love to read what you think about it.

    i also like sunbutter.

    and i like you! 😉

and i’ve been a crappy blog friend lately but i promise, I’m reading!

    xoxo

Skippy Natural is the only PB i eat. a little tiny bit of added sugar is worth not having to stir for me! 🙂

    • Tina says:

Crazy computers. 😉 And I agree with the not having to stir thing. Worth it to me too.

I feel like a crap blog friend too! I’m always reading as well though. It’s so hard keeping up with everything though and then I feel bad when little things like that fall by the wayside. And I feel bad for not keeping up on FB too. 🙁 I love you though my good pal!!

  39. Krystal says:

ok weird. the skippy part of my previous comment came out at the end of my comment instead of right before “i also like sunbutter” which is where i typed it.

    my computer is psycho today.

  40. Kristy says:

I just got the book too! I would enjoy hereing you point of view 🙂 Cant wait until my groin injury is completly healed so I can go back to spin!
