happy birthday to me!
Posted: August 23, 2010 at 11:00 amYep! It’s my birthday. It puts me in a good mood but doesn’t mean anything extraordinarily special. I woke up to a pile of dishes to be done in the sink because I was too tired last night. I was still up before the sun to kick off the day with a bit of productivity. I will still carry about my day as normal with a trip to the store and a kickboxing workout tonight. No big surprises awaited me when I came downstairs and likely won’t later today. I’m cool with all of that though and will still have a pep in my step because its my birthday, even if M threw the world's biggest temper tantrum this morning. And I get fro-yo today. 😀 Which means today’s birthday will likely fall somewhere in the middle of the two below.
MY BEST BIRTHDAY…would probably be two years ago. (picture below is June this year though)
Nothing too exciting happened. A group of our close friends, Peter, & I went to dinner at The Cheesecake Factory together. We hung around talking and laughing for a few hours. It was my first birthday in a long time that I didn’t fret about the calories I ate or judge my worth on how I felt I looked or the progress I made physically the last year. I lived in the moment. Simple, but fabulous.
MY WORST BIRTHDAY…came last year.
We had just finished a dinner at home with my parents and were putting M to bed. She had a high fever of 103+ but we were advised that’s normal for kids her age and to keep it down with Motrin overnight then bring her to the doc in the morning. That advice still irks me. When changing her clothes to put her to bed she got this weird daze on her face. Then her body went limp and we noticed she wasn’t breathing. She started turning blue around the mouth. I was freaking out! Thank God my mom was there and jumped into action to give her CPR. We had to race to the hospital, where we spent the next 4 nights treating our poor baby girl for a severe UTI that she had no signs of and likely would not have been diagnosed at the pediatrician because it is so rare at that age. I felt like the worst mother and cried and cried for fear of what could have happened. In fact, I think that is the worst day of my life so far.
I still get chills and tears in my eyes looking at these. Although the butt one is pretty cute. 😉
To end on a lighter note, I’ll include one humorous bday moment. My 21st birthday was a wreck! It was during my party days and I don’t remember this…but apparently I couldn’t step up into the van cab. I just kept walking right into it banging my shins. Then, on the way home I kept yelling to the driver about how horny I was. Not the proudest moment, but at least I can laugh on it looking back. I can’t believe I just told you that.
- What’s your best, worst, craziest, etc birthday?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m so sorry to hear what happened to babygirl last year, but so glad that she’s okay. And, that butt picture is unbelievably adorable 😛
Have an amazing day, love! xoxoxoxoxoxo
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TINA!!!!!
Your 21st birthday story is absolutely hilarious – it had me laughing out loud for a few minutes! My 20th sounds like it was very similar. One of my guy friends ended up carrying me part way home (probably not an easy feat since I’m 5’10”!!) Prior to packing it in for the night, we thought it would be a good idea to go to our usual post-bar diner for some food. Being a cereal freak (and health nut) I thought I was being wise when I ordered Raisin Bran. It hadn’t quite clicked in my head that it was going to come out of the kitchen with milk. I decided to be clever and drain the milk off the side of my spoon every time I went to take a bite, but I ended up dribbling SO much milk all over my dress! For some reason I thought I was spilling it on my 2 guy friends on either side of me, so apparently I kept apologizing profusely to both of them – even though I was the one with milk all over me! Ohhhh dear…..
I hope you have an absolutely fabulous day!
Hahaha! That’s an awesome story. I love having funny things like that to look back on. I have quite a few up my sleeve. UGA didn’t let me down in that area.
Happy Happy Birthday! They do seem to get less exciting as we get older don’t they? I do hope you have a wonderful day at least.
Yea, which is a bummer in some ways. But I guess we’re mature enough to be satisfied with less flash and glamour too, huh?
Some days 😉
Happy Birthday petal, hope you have a great day – no more washing dishes! Yey for Fro-yo!
Have a HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!
I hope it’s a great day and nothing like last years. You have an adorable little girl! Butt pic is too cute!
I think my best birthday was my 20th. My boyfriend and I spent our first Thanksgiving together and then went and shopped for a Christmas Tree. It’s the simple things… 🙂
That sounds like a great bday! Makes for a great memory too. 🙂
Happy Birthday! I am sharing a Birthday with you woot woot. I don’t know what the funniest birthday moment would be, but I remember my 21st birthday and vomiting on the patio at the bar I was at then doing the walk of shame to my grandma’s house On the day of my Birthday. I guess the worst would be the night of the 23rd when I went out with friends and the car I was in broke down and no one wanted to party. Ahhh partying days, so glad they are over.
Well happy bday to you too!!! The walk of shame. I had my share of those in college that’s for sure.
Happy birthday Tina!!!
Reading about your worst birthday gave me chills. Oh man. I can’t even imagine.
My 21st birthday was horrid. My ex-boyfriend and I got into a huge fight. yuck.
Happiest of all birthdays to you!! I hope today is wonderful and full of love and celebration. SO glad everything turned out ok last year. I can only imagine how terrifying that must have been. Lots of blessings to you this year. 🙂
Happy Birthday!
I think you made every mother in the world shudder… Me too, even though I’m not a mother yet. Very scary. Glad your little one is ok though. And thank goodness for infant CPR.
My worst birthday was my “sweet” sixteen, which my mother accidentally forgot about when she booked our vacation to visit my grandparents. I spent it having a 5pm dinner in a retirement community in Connecticut with my mom, Grandparents and their creepy-old-man neighbor who caught wind of a sweet-16 party and couldn’t pass it up so he invited himself over for dinner.
What a bummer! Family is important and all but sweet 16…you don’t want to be in a retirement community. LOL
Happy Birthday!!!!
The story about your daughter nearly made me cry at my desk. I’m so glad she is alright!
My worst birthday was in 2005. My dad passed away 16 days before my 24th birthday.
My best birthday was probably this past year where I was surrounded with friends and family. I love it!
I love that you told us that you nut! You crack me up!!
WOW – hate to hear that about baby girl – how scary!
On another note – happy birthday! I hope this one is painless! 🙂
My birthdays are pretty standard – fun get together with friends. I will say that I always get a bit sad/dissappointed because turn out is usually rough with the time of year right at the 4th of July!
Oh man, I remember when that happened with M—we were all so worried about you. you are extremely lucky and now–think on the positive side–you got a cute butt pic of her! I have one of me at that age in the hospital and I love it now!
and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
And I remember going down to the lounge in the hospital to type up that update for all of you and talking on the phone with Mandy so she could clue you all in. Ridiculously scary! I could feel all your support though. 🙂
Happy Birthday! For my 20th birthday I went to a Decemberists concert in Chicago with my boyfriend (now husband) – the concert was awesome and so was the day. I think it was the first birthday where I did something fun that I wouldn’t normally get to do (as opposed to just doing dinner out somewhere in town or the birthday parties I was thrown as a kid) and that’s why I liked it so much.
Happy Birthday Tina! I hope it is a wonderful one!
Happyhappy birthday Tina!!! I hope you’re having a wonderful, relaxing day 🙂 My best birthdays are spent with my mom, seeing as she played a key role in the whole “birth”day part of it 😉
Aww, love it! I usually see my mom on my birthdays too but this year she is coming on Thursday night. Because she HAS to be told in person what the gender of the baby is. Love her.
Happy birthday!! Hope you have a great day. Let’s see…for my 21st birthday I did 11 shots (girly shots, but still) in about 45 minutes and then came home, puked for hours, and then spent the rest of the day in bed, with what I think was a mild case of alcohol poisoning. GOOOOD times, let me tell you. Blech.
Happy Birthday!
Hope you have an awesome day. I have no doubt that it will be better than last year. Enjoy today!
Happy Birthday, sweet Tina! Keep that pep in your step and enjoy the day – you most definitely deserve it.
I’m so thankful that little M is A-OK and that you have that experience well behind you. 🙂
oh baby bottoms are SO CUTE! first of all, happy birthday to YOU today 🙂
i’ve never really had a bad birthday but last year’s was great…i took the day off from work and nate and i just drove around and explored denver together. then he had a surprise party for me later that day! so fun 🙂
Oh what a fabulous bday! I’ve never had a surprise party and actually REALLY want one.
Happy birthday!!! I don’t have much luck with birthdays, it’s been forgotten a bunch of times (including 21), I got dumped, I’ve been sick, etc… I try not to think about it.
My BEST birthday was 26. My “twin” (a very dear friend who shares it) and I had everyone go to a club. I had a fantastic time, but didn’t really process, that out of all my friends to show up, only one was female. My boyfriend at the time didn’t take this well, and broke up with me shortly after. Still was an amazing birthday, and, really, I was not meant to be with a guy that couldn’t handle my boys.
Growing up I had a TON of guy friends. And I knew I couldn’t be with a guy who didn’t understand that my closest friend was a guy (the one who got married recently actually). Thankfully Peter got it. Guys are just fun. And tend to have less drama. Now I have a pretty even mix but that’s mainly bec our closest friends are the couples in our church groups.
happy birthday! enjoy yourself!
Happy Birthday Tina! YUM frozen yogurt sounds so good…my all time favorite! Oh Miss M, that is so sad and so scary. I am so glad everything turned out well in the end. Having kids definitely ages you quickly. The heart ache is so painful! I am such a normal girl…I have no great stories for birthdays. Have a great day!
Happy birthday to a fellow leo!! Hope you have a wonderful day!!!
Ya know what…I never know if I’m Leo or Virgo. Some things say one and others the other since my bday is the last/first depending. I guess it makes sense though because I have qualities from both sides. I’m super organized and type A like Virgos, but very social like Leos. 🙂
Happy birthday beautiful Tina!! 🙂
And I must say… though it was a terrible time and I can’t imagine how scary, at least you came out with that adorable bum-poking-out-from-the-gown shot of M! 🙂
HAPPPPPY BIRTHDAY Beautiful! Happy, happy birthday. What a sweet picture, but that story almost made me lose it. so sorry you had to go through that. Your mom rocks, that’s for sure.
My fave bday was when I was like 20 and we went to Disney and I did the princess makeover thing with a bunch of 4 year olds, lol.
My fave bday would involve Disney right now even. I love that place!
Happy Birthday, beautiful!
May this year be the most blessed yet with laughter and prosperity!
Texas-sized HUGS!!! 🙂
Happy Birthday, I hope today becomes one of your best!
Happy Birthday, Tina!! I hope today is the best birthday yet. 🙂 You have so many wonderful, exciting things to celebrate right now!
Oh my gosh, I LOL’ed at your 21st birthday story. That is hilarious and possibly something I’d do (both the running into the cab and shouting out things I’d later regret). What a scary birthday last year….I cannot imagine the panic you felt. I am SO glad M is okay and thriving today!
My craziest (and best?) birthday was probably this year, in Vegas. 🙂
Bahahah! I just cracked up at your 21st birthday story! And let’s be honest… who doesn’t have a similar story in their past? 😉
I’m so glad your baby girl made it through the UTI… so scary! But you’re a great mom!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! 🙂
Happy Birthday!!! So glad your baby girl was OK in the end 🙂 I know this is a weird way of thinking, but maybe part of that day was your special birthday gift. Maybe if you hadn’t been paying attention, your mom hadn’t been there, or if any other things about that day were different, you might not have noticed the weird symptoms and been able to care for them right away. I don’t in any way mean to under-recognize how traumatic that day must have been; I’m just always on the lookout for blessings in disguise 🙂
My best birthday was probably my 21st. Some friends from college came to visit (I was home for the Summer), so we went out to the boardwalk (I’m from the Jersey Shore) for some fun. I was so happy to see all my friends getting along 🙂
I definitely like this perspective. I like to view things from a positive view and things certainly could have been worse. I in no way would think you were demeaning the experience. We have plenty to be thankful for!
Happy Birthday!
That pic of M with her buns hanging out is so adorable!!!
My best birthday was probably the first year J and I were dating — it was my first birthday with his family. They all got me gifts, made me a cake and told me how happy they were to have me in their family (J and I had gotten engaged a few months prior). It was so sweet.
Happy birthday, lady!!! You deserve to have the most wonderful day ever!
Love that butt picture, even if there is a scary story behind it. Honestly, from what I can see from this blog, I think you are an AMAZING mom. I hope I can be like you someday in that respect! 🙂
Thank you so much! I do my best. Some days are definitely better than others but I always give my love and thats what counts.
Happy Birthday?
That’s so scary, what happened last year to your daughter. Glad she’s ok!
happy happy birthday… this was probably my toughest birthday due to the struggles we are going through, but in the end I still feel very lucky so it was great.
Happy Birthday girl!
Your 21st birthday story cracked me up! Mine was pretty epic, to say the least, but is way to inappropriate for a blog comment. 😉 Needless to say I will not forget it anytime soon.
I hope you have a great day though and cherish the time you have with your little girl.
Happy Birthday Tina! I am so glad to have found your blog – adorable pics of your little girl! I’m so glad everything turned out OK for her – how scary!
I hope you have a fabulous day and that this birthday brings good memories for your future. I’ve had my share of good and non-eventful but this year I’m celebrating my champagne birthday 26 on the 26th of September. It will also be my blog’s birthday so a big year indeed!
How exciting. Mine was a bit ago and I didn’t even know of the champagne bday then. I totally would have loved a glass of champagne then too. Haha.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pug Hugs!!!
So scary about your Birthday last year 🙁 That butt picture is so cute!
LOL at your 21st Birthday story. Once after going out, I had on super tight jeans and could not for the life of me hike myself up into a friends truck. Matt had to sort of pick me up and throw me in, hahah. I totally busted my shin during the whole charade!
Ahahahaa… I love your 21st birthday moment! I was a wreck on mine, too. I remember getting so mad and throwing a fit that all my friends were making me go home because I was seriously having the best time ever. Then my bf was like, “AMY. We have to go. The bar is closed.” Oopsie…
Happy Birthday, dear! I hope it’s a great one for you!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! Glad your daughter is ok – WOW!
My best bday had to be my 21st – My mom took off work and took me to lunch and then that night all my roommates and their boyfriends gathered together and gave me a cake and took me out clubbing. I was smart and took the next day off – I went to class and then crashed the rest of the day.
My worst bday was last year – hubs took me shopping and we were supposed to go to a nice dinner. MIL called while we were shopping and hubs told her it was my bday. She then picked that moment to tell hubs she was not feeling good and a bunch of other stuff. Hubs got pissed off and then tried to make it up to me by pretending to be happy but the damage was already done. We cut shopping short and headed home instead of dinner and I spent the night watching tv on the couch by myself.
That would have frustrated me too. Some MILs have issues!
HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY BEAUTIFUL!!!
That is such a scary story!
Thank you for your sweet comment on my blog – I’m “honored” to have you read as you have such a popular following Ms. Fitness!!
I’ll eat a slice of cake in honor of your B-Day ;)…I know, such a raw deal for me hey? 😉
No need to feel honored. I’m a normal gal like everyone else. 🙂 And I always love commenting to those who comment here. I like the connections and want to keep them going. 🙂
First off – happy birthday!!!
Your story of Baby M brought tears to my eyes. She’s a little fighter, just like her mom 🙂
Happy happy birthday! I hope it’s a wonderful day for you!
So scary about your birthday and Baby M going to the hospital, yikes! But, I’m glad she was ok in the end. And glad you included the 21st birthday story, that was funny!
My craziest birthday was probably my 21st as well. It was in college and definitely during the party days, and I remember throwing up in the bar and then my boyfriend coming over to kiss me right after, oops.
Your 21st story — omg! That is hilarious! I’m not sure which is funnier, though…the shins or the horny part 🙂 And what a scary birthday with M. My gosh…I seriously don’t know what I would’ve done other than flipped out. Bless your heart!!
I think my best birthday was my 21st! It was a blast! We rented Bruce Springstein’s suite at the Hard Rock Hotel in Chicago and went out to Chicago clubs with all of our friends. And by we I mean one of my best friends and I — we share a birthday 🙂 So much fun!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! What a terrible story about your daughter though! I’m so glad she was okay!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope this year is a wonderful one! Poor M, that must have been so miserable 🙁
My 21st was insane. We were in Australia and began the night with tequila shots, then played beer pong with wine before going out. To this day, none of us know how we got home!
Hahahaa!!! My friends and I had some nights like that. Scary but hey…it happens. I would have been soooo sick mixing tequila with beer or wine.
Happy birthday to you! I remember the next day after my 21st birthday going into work the next day… I lasted 1 hour and had to have my husband pick me up. he told me I stank like alcohol when I got in his car. How embarrassing. My friend at work still laughs at me sometimes for that.
Oh no! I remember I somehow woke up not even hungover. And my friends said I didn’t get sick either. Don’t know how that was possible. LOL
HAPPY BIRTHDAY my sweet friend!! 🙂 🙂 🙂 I hope that you have a wonderful day!! 🙂
Gosh, I can’t even imagine how scary that day with M was though… God was definitely watching over her that day though and how wonderful that she is ok and doing well today!!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 😀
I hope it’s FABULOUS!!
xoxo
What a fantastic birthday story! HA!
Happy Birthday!!!!
