lackluster saturday, pleasurable sunday

Posted: September 13, 2010 at 4:30 pm

It seems quite a few of you really enjoyed this morning’s 30 Days of Self Love post. I smiled with each and every one of your comments on how you are physically beautiful. We should never deny our beauty, inside and out. I would love to read more, so share how you’re beautiful in the comment section of today’s post.

Since the only blogging I do over the weekends right now is for the 30 Days, I owe you a recap. We had no set plans going into this weekend. I love weekends where you can go with the flow. I expected relaxation, family time, and a good meal out for our one night a week restaurant visit. Saturday fell a little bit short of those hopes and dreams. Even my massage.

I headed out Saturday morning to use up a Groupon I received for a prenatal massage. I almost had butterflies from the excitement! My body needed this massage and I could not wait to feel less tension. I got myself situated on the massage table – on my side with a body pillow for support – and settled in to await bliss.

I would not quite describe this massage as bliss. I would not describe it as bad either…but weird. A good 1/3 of the massage was done through the sheet! And with basically no pressure. It felt like someone poking me in the shoulder or back over and over to wake me up. Not exactly relaxing. Part of what I love about massages is the use of oils and really feeling the release of muscles. No oils touched my skin and minimal tension release happened. I did enjoy the chance to relax, but I certainly would not go back. Any Atlanta area massage studios want to offer me a chance for review? I promise to play nice! As long as you don’t rub me raw through a sheet. 😉

The lackluster Saturday continued with a Georgia Bulldogs game loss and a pretty nasty dinner. We typically prefer going to local, non-massive-chain restaurants in our area but had a BOGO coupon for Ruby Tuesday. I remembered liking their food okay and who am I to say no to a cheap dinner with a salad bar involved? Lesson learned – say no!

My salad suited me nicely. Greens, beets, artichoke hearts, edamame, olives, cucumbers, onions, tomatoes, carrots, parmesan, balsamic vinaigrette, and things I’m likely forgetting.

My meal, however, equated to disaster. I used to love their steak but I could not handle it. It had a lot of chew to it, which cannot be good in my standards. All in all, I had sweet potato fries for dinner. Not worth the $15 we saved from going elsewhere.

I enjoyed Sunday a lot more. It started off fairly typical with church, home for lunch, and chilling during M’s nap. Then, we made the spontaneous decision to head out to the park for the afternoon. I soaked up some quality time with the family and a leisurely stroll around the park’s little pond.

Spending afternoons together outdoors gets me all warm and fuzzy inside every time. We closed out the night with more fun. The hilarity of the movie Date Night ensued. I really liked it! I liked the fact it wasn’t too long and gave us an early bedtime even more. Such a wild life we live. Oh well. It all added up to a pleasurable Sunday!

  1. what a dissapointment on the massage. That stinks. I have a massage planned soon and I hope it goes a little better than that.

Sorry about GA losing as well…I thought of you!

  2. i love weekends. i love sleeping in, hanging with friends, cooking, lounging in my PJs, and going to church. if only i could do all that at work!

  3. Awwwwesome guest post on Healthy Living Blogs! I don’t like to focus on the weight aspect as much as I love planning my meals, exercising, etc. Inspiring stuff, m’dear. May your Monday be off to a great start!

  4. Kat says:

Sorry the massage was a bit lame, but groupon does have some awesome deals sometimes so maybe you can get a better one soon!! The best part of my weekend was the alone time with my hubby. We dont get to go on dates enough, so it was great. The worst would have to be that I missed out on football!! Good thing theres a game tonight 🙂

    • Tina says:

I love Groupon so I will certainly have my eye out for other deals. I actually have another prenatal massage certificate to use.Good thing not to the same place!

  5. Heather says:

I agree with the worst part of the weekend was the Bulldogs loss.

I am sometimes a fan of the Ruby. Their salads are good, but their entire menu is bland. I really only go if I am at the mall and want something healthy

  6. Mark says:

Aww, you were really looking forward to that massage too. At least the friction-fest with your sheet massage means that you are now perfectly exfoliated :p

  7. How disappointing about the massage!

The best and worst parts of my weekend were the same thing. The ridiculous hike I did yesterday. It sucked and I thought I might die – but I did it, and Im super excited about it.

  8. Best part of my weekend: watching my daughter score a goal at her soccer game.
Worst part: getting her there in the first place-she was tired and grumpy and resisting going up until the minute she stepped onto the field to play!

  9. BUT Sweet potato fries = Perfect dinner in itself

    Right….?

  10. Eunice says:

    Bad massages are the woooooooorst!

The best part of my weekend was football, of course. And the worst part was all the homework I had to do during commercials. 🙂

  11. So Date Night was good, eh? I’ll have to check it out!
Best part of the weekend: my BFF’s Surprise party and my 10 miler
Worst Part: It coming to an end!! haha

    • Tina says:

Glad you had an awesome weekend! And it was really good. It was pretty funny and fun to watch. Nothing for the Oscars…but I’d recommend it. 🙂

  12. Camille says:

I had a pretty lazy weekend, but it was actually quite nice! I’m all about the laziness sometimes 🙂

  13. erica says:

Sorry to hear about the massage! Thats a bummer! Good then you payed half price through groupon, otherwise I would have been really upset haha! Ruby Tuesday hahaha it’s been a long time since I went there and I agree….don’t have to go back!

  14. homecookedem says:

Weird about the massage!! Sorry to hear that… but at least your weekend ended well!! 🙂

Best part of my weekend was spending time with my family (my parents and sister took me to Flying Biscuit!!!!) and the worst part of my weekend was missing Andrew after he’d been gone for a few days. But he’s back now and all is right in the world again! 😉

    • Tina says:

Yay for Andrew being back home. 🙂 And for the Flying Biscuit of course. I’m assuming its safe to say some grits were involved. 😉

  15. that’s so odd about the massage, sorry to hear about that! 🙁

chain restaurants aren’t our thing either, we like to find quite, little tucked away venues, they seem to be more serious about their food. but i mean, a coupon is a coupon, i would’ve hit that place up too! glad to hear your Sunday was good 🙂

  16. Penny Lane says:

When we were in North Carolina we wanted to go out to get BBQ (I <3 pulled pork with slaw on it) and every place we would have wanted to go was booked so we went to some restraunt down there. I was so disappointed about that meal. Coming from a dieting family I never knew that you fried your veggies in bacon fat/grease (who really knows) and look forward to refreshing veggies with a meat dish. Bummer:(

Back to running errands on weekends:(

  17. Sorry about the massage. That really stinks! I am really glad Sunday turned out well. It did for me too. We enjoyed a great dinner at home as a family on Sunday night so it was perfect! I hope you have a great week!

  18. Morgan says:

massage through a sheet? that’s just uncomfortable. My sensitive skin hurts just thinking about it!

  19. That’s a shame about the massage…I would of been ticked! I haven’t been able to get into my usual place because of those Groupons, LOL…SO many people are booking up all the appointments with them….and I am left out in the cold, I think they expire soon, so I kinda look forward to being able to make an appointment, LOL.

  20. I’m sorry you didn’t fully enjoy the groupon massage! 🙁 But I can understand how you feel- I’d be not as happy if they didn’t use as much pressure as I was hoping…

  21. “A good 1/3 of the massage was done through the sheet! And with basically no pressure. It felt like someone poking me in the shoulder or back over and over to wake me up. Not exactly relaxing.”–

THAT IS UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!! Omg girl. I would have said something afterwards for sure b/c during, it is a bit weird to question your masseuese, b/c you were prob thinking, well certainly she’s gonna “get on with it any minute”…which never happened. Ugh. CAll the place and tell them that you werent satisfied and get yourself a freebie. You deserve it! DO IT!

  22. Shayna says:

Yikes! Sorry about your steak. I go to Ruby Tuesday’s with the husband solely to gorge myself on salad. I can eat a sickening amount, I’ll tell ya 🙂 I was actually more sad about your steak than your massage!!

  23. Shannon says:

Sorry the massage turned out to be a disappointment. I can’t remember the last time I had one.

You Sunday sounded perfect. I love getting out to enjoy this time of year. We went apple picking and it reminded me how much I love fall in New England.

  24. Kristy says:

Thats a bummer that you didnt LOVE the massage but atleast it was kinda relaxing 🙂 Amen on Ruby Tuesday’s going down hill.

  25. Nichole says:

I am so wishy washy on massages. They are suppose to be relaxing but I can never relax, blerg.

Don’t even want to talk about our poor Dawgs:(

But the weather if finally turning up!

  26. I’ve never had an actual massage session but I have had some during my physio, acupuncture and chiropractic sessions (for my back, long story) and I’d have to say, if I just felt nothing but poking, I definitely wouldn’t go back. The person massaging you should’ve asked somewhere along the way if he was doing ok. Sorry you had a bad experience. Hope the next place you try is much better.

I used to hate walks and strolls, but ever since having kids, I totally love it. Kids really do bring out the best in you don’t they? Love family time!

  27. Well that stinks about the massage. At least you got a chance to relax though. That’s always nice isn’t it??? Hope you’re having a great Tuesday sweetie!

  29. I love going out to eat and there is nothing worse than a bad meal. I hate chewy steaks, grrr!

  30. GAAH, there is nothing more frustrating than a bad massage. Having been a spa director for YEARS, I would welcome this information… (I would hope any owner or manager would) You should tell them of your experience – just point blank, not as a complaint or to get money back (I would state this too, so they aren’t on the defensive). 🙂 and who knows? they may invite you back with a more skilled therapist – I know I would!!

    🙂

also, when booking massage, ask specific questions… how many years they’ve been practicing, what different TYPES of massage they do, and tell them specifically you want a prenatal… not everyone knows the proper way to massage and what you can and cannot do…

sorry for the novel, it’s kinda my thing 🙂

  31. […] – calming, yet tough enough to relieve the tension in my neck, shoulders, and lower back. Plus, no getting rubbed raw through a sheet. I could have stayed for another hour of just getting my hands, feet, and head rubbed. Those are […]
