tina’s dirty little secrets

Posted: September 17, 2010 at 1:09 pm

Check out this morning’s 30 Days post to share this week’s gifts of the body. Also, thanks for those of you who gave me feedback last night. If you haven’t yet – I would still love to hear from you. 😀

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I have no qualms showing the real side of Tina. For fun this Friday, grab some popcorn and sit back for some entertaining glimpses into the real me.
I’ve mentioned before that when I’m at home I live in either workout clothes or pajama/comfy clothes. Those comfy clothes I wear though? They get reused numerous days before making it into the wash. I have only one reason for why I’m not chilling in the same yoga pants and tank I had on last night – they got splattered with enchilada sauce while cooking.
IMGP6948
Which comes to real side of Tina #2. I’m a super messy eater. You may want to reconsider ever dining with me at a blogger meet-up. I can’t guarantee you will leave stain free either. By the way – we need to schedule another Atlanta Blogger meet-up soon. Leave me a comment of any places you may want to go and I don’t mind organizing it this time. 🙂
Veggie enchiladas aren’t the only thing that can give me toots. I’m a very gassy and stinky girl. And sometimes, I take pride in the ones that shock my husband.
Another quality on par with the gas? I don’t shower every day. Today I likely won’t shower even though I went to yoga. I showered yesterday afternoon, will shower tomorrow morning, and just don’t feel like it today.
The microwave is a good friend of mine. In fact, I nuke my oats every morning.
IMGP6962
I have weird cleaning habits. I can go weeks without dusting or vacuuming the carpets, but must wipe down the kitchen sink after each use and clean the kitchen counters and table every day with Clorox wipes.
I don’t read much anymore. In fact, I didn’t even finish Eat Pray Love before it had to go back to the library. Which means I get to be #548095 on the waiting list again. Even knowing I have trouble finishing books now, I still will go to the library today to pick up Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. I was #487524980273 on that list so I’m going to do my best to read it in two weeks. Who am I??
Consider yourselves lucky that you know me through the blog. You may not have been willing to befriend me otherwise. 😉 I take that back. We all have our quirks and dirty little secrets. Care to tell me one of yours? 😀 C’mon! I told you I get kicks off my flatulence!
Disclaimer: FFF is not at fault for any repulsion caused by the above post. Please do not be disgusted and discontinue reading of this blog. If this is one of your first visits, FFF assures you toots, bad hygiene, and general neuroses are not the focus of every post. Thank you. –FFF Corporate
  1. You go, girlie! I’m a very gassy girl, too! Used to get tummy aches a lot and one time the hubby said, “Just fart. Your tummy will feel better.” He genuinely regrets telling me that now because for the last ten years, I let ’em rip allllllll the time!!
  2. Amanda says:
    Microwaving oats is sometimes essential and I have to admit that I have done it before too! I loved this post 🙂
  3. Camille says:
    Yours sound a lot like mine!
    I thought I was the only blogger who microwaved my oats! Honestly, I think they taste better that way! Take that, stove!
  4. GIRL, you are AWESOME. I just love you! 🙂 thanks for making me laugh today.
    we could seriously be fast friends: I don’t always shower every day, and I wear the same yoga pants 3 days in a row sometimes. I am meticulous about cleaning my kitchen and bathroom, while I bet I can scan the room for dust bunnies from lack of vacuuming. 😉
    I’m not afraid… I’m not necessarily a messy eater, but I’ll still take the chance and eat with you!
    that’s where it ends though. I don’t toot. 😀
    BAAA HAAA
  5. Shayna says:
    Can I tell you that I absolutely love this post?!? 🙂 I’m okay with my dirts for an extra day, I’ll totally re-wear jammies, I toot and that’s ok with me (but not my husband, which makes me laugh)…I’m pretty disgusting. I’ll go as far as to share that not only will I pick at my skin, I’ll pick at my loved ones too (blackheads, even on others, make me uncomfortable) And I wouldn’t have it any other way. Bonus points for your honesty!
  6. This is the funniest post ever! And it’s extremely awesome that you are brave enough to share your deepest darkest secrets with us! (I am not that brave.)
    As for reading: I own Steig Larson series if you’d like to borrow it. I finished the last book about 3 weeks ago. I can send it to you if you’d like! And I promose that I won’t make you return it in 2 weeks 🙂
    • Tina says:
      That would be pretty awesome if I could borrow them! I will say that it would probably take me a good couple months to get through them all though and I would feel bad keeping them that long. If you really don’t have anyone else to lend them to let me know though.
      • I just checked – the only person I had lined up to borrow them started school again & she won’t have time to read until the end of the semester. So they’e all yours! If you’re still interested, send me an email with your mailing info & I’ll ship them to you next week! (And seriously, there’s NO hurry to get through them! You can keep them as long as you need!)
  7. Jess says:
    OMG you are a RIOT Tina! I loved reading this post!!! Let’s see – dirty little secret of mine? Kinda lame but even though I’m a total neat freak, my closets and some of my drawers are a TOTAL mess. As long as everything looks nice and smells nice where visitors can see them, I’m happy. 🙂 Lame – I know. I’ll have to think of another more embarrassing one, ha!
    • Tina says:
      I am pretty good about keeping closets clean…but the office has a ton of random things just put in there to be out of the main living area. I do not look forward to having to go through it all when we turn it into the guest room to make the guest room baby room #2.
  8. I’ll join the “I don’t shower every day” club — although if I exercise I always shower after. But some weekend days I don’t “need” a shower, so I don’t!
    And the whole farting thing had me laughing so hard! My husband is probably the gassiest person on earth — his mom and brother have confirmed this! And yet, I can still get him to clear the room — especially if I’ve had lots of beans. Oh my!
  9. HA made me laugh out loud. But I’m with you on many of those things. The farting part made me laugh- I honestly think my family genetics have determined that I will be gassy. My Mom says that breathing air gives her gas and I have to say, I’m the same
  10. Haha love your disclaimer at the end. I am super weird about showering. I think living in a big city and walking everywhere has made me paranoid about dirt. I’ll shower twice a day if its particularly hot out.
  11. Me-Linh says:
    BAHAHAHA I love the one on farts! I’m totally the same with you for wearing the same thing everyday. Hey, the clothes are clean you know?! it’s not like we pigfarm in the clothes and constantly rewear it.
    Sometimes I like to wear the same thing two days in a row (if I know they’re not stinky) but I have the same person in all my classes everyday but he notices. But I’ve learned not to care 🙂
  12. Becca says:
    Kudos to you for sharing the kind of taboo stuff! Love it!
    Haha, I know how the clothes thing goes! My mom has always told me that as long as my pants aren’t dirty, I can wear them at least twice before throwing them in the laundry.
    Although come to think of it, I have a pair of jeans that must have a perpetual stain (orange; have no idea what it is or how it got there!) on the hem… But that’s okay, because I doubt people ever notice it!
    Sweatshirts, too. 🙂
    I know you didn’t mention this specifically, but:
    Our youth group is horrible about belching. It’s hilarious. When we were in TN for a conference last summer, one of our girls surprised all of us by belching–long and loud. It was amazing. There were these guys who weren’t in our group ahead of us on the sidewalk and they turned around out of curiosity. And here’s this skinny high school girl, laughing and grinning proudly! It was actually pretty impressive. 😛
    • Tina says:
      Belching is one thing I don’t have the capacity for. I still find it amusing though. There are many ways that I am such a teenage boy! LOL
  13. I wear PJs for 3 – 4 days before washing. I don’t see the need :). I’m messy too and according to The Lover, I don’t have gas but it’s pretty killer. 🙂
  14. Stacy says:
    Woohoo what a great post, and so has the last few posts as well. I am proud of you for taking the reigns and doing whatever it is you did. It seems that you letting your true personality and style of writing come out, and it’s freaking awesome!!! Keep it up girl!
    Dirty little secret, I shower every other day too. Saves me time, and I think my hair feels weird if I shower every day.
    I sleep in the rattiest clothes, because they are comfy.
    I have a weird obsession with vampire anything, and even weirder I think it would be cool to be one, minus the whole blood drinking thing! Ick!
    I spare my husband my gassiness at home, but beware my car. That’s my safe zone 😉
  15. haha this was awesome!!
    I wear the same sweats all the time. The way I figure it, as long as Im wearing underwear, the pants dont need to be washed. 🙂 Actually, the jeans Im wearing right now (at work) havent been washed for at least two weeks.
  16. Kattrina says:
    Hi there! I don’t think I’ve ever commented on your blog, but I read it often. Anyway, I just HAD to comment on this post because you sound exactly like me – minus the showering bit (I tend to shower every day). I wear my comfy clothes ever day after work and the only reason I wash them is because I do wash every Saturday and they are inevitably on the floor, so get tossed in the wash. I have a friend who once told me that threw her comfy clothes and towels in the washing machine after ONE use. I admit, I felt kinda stinky.
    My husband and I are also foo-fee-ers (as we childishly call it in our house). Sometimes I can’t believe how often we do it – and then we have a ritual of acting surprised and pretending we have no idea where it came from.
    And, lastly, I notoriously cannot finish a book in time for the library to need it back. It’s really pathetic – I’ve renewed books three times and sometimes I put my name on the list twice anticipating that I won’t finish and will need it again. I feel like the SLOWEST reader on the planet. I also can’t finish movies and have a list of movies that I never watched the end too…
    Great post – totally made me laugh!!!
    • Tina says:
      Thanks for coming out of the woodwork and commenting!! Nice to “meet” ya! 😀 Sounds like we have quite a bit in common. 😉
  17. Hi Tina! I wanted to let you know I added a giveaway to my last blog post and wanted to tell you because you commented it before I added it 🙂
  18. you dirty rotten girl!
    heres my dirty little secret that im often ashamed to admit. I love picking at dry skin. I also love picking at Sean’s dandruff.
    So, we are all nasty in our own ways haha!
    • Tina says:
      I am sad to say we can no longer be friends. The sound of dry skin being picked, rubbed, scratched etc freaks. me. out!!!
      Who am I kidding? I love ya too much to ever not be your friend! 😀
  19. kate says:
    I dont shower every day either! And Im okay with that 🙂
  20. I love posts like this! Thanks for sharing your “secrets” – I’m sure so many of us can relate. For me it was like reading my own post or something – no showers, rewearing clothes, etc. etc. You’re so REAL and that’s why you’re wonderful =)
  21. Amen! My rule for dressing and showering is as follows:
    When I cannot remember my last (wardrobe change/shower), then it is time for a (new set of clothing/a scrub down).
    And I don’t even have kids.
    My worst, most disgusting habit: I LOVE TO POP THINGS. Unfortunately, I have always had really clear skin, so I don’t get to pop things as often as I want to.
    I love other weird skin stuff, too. I’ve watched a doctor give me stitches and watched a doctor shave off a mole.
    But I hate getting blood drawn. Let’s not be gross.
    I could go on and on. Perhaps I will make a similar post!
    • Tina says:
      Oh I can’t watch doctors do things. I don’t mind the pain of different procedures but if I see it I freak. I had to have reconstructive surgery on my elbow my senior year of high school after I was hit by a car and hated having to see what he was doing. I clenched my eyes the entire time.
  22. LOL – this is exactly why I love reading your posts – you’re honest and straight up. I’m a terribly messy eater too so we could definitely eat together 😉
  23. i definitely do the shower every other day thing! feels gross, but im saving water and money! 🙂
    great post girly
  24. Sava says:
    I will admit that sometimes I let my clothes go probably longer than they should without being washed.
    Hey, it saves water! 😛
  25. rachael says:
    love this post 🙂
  26. Steph says:
    Since a lot of people are blogging about “owning it” recently – I will own this – I am a messy eater as well! Yesterday my co-work managed to squirt ketchup on himself, looked at me and said “Hey we have matching stains”, I looked down only to realize I was unaware of such a “twinkie” occurence and responded with a slightly more vulgar vocabulary than I will share in my comment “Oh, shoot”.
    Thank you though for sharing – we all have our quirks, but it’s what makes us who we are!
    PS I’m not much of a tooter, but I am guilty of some loud burps, what’s even more entertaining is my dog is a loud burper as well – mama’s boy what can I say???
  27. No shame in not cleaning the house or your bod regularly…it’s overrated!
  28. Lee says:
    I am really gassy too. Like really gassy.
    I’m down for another meetup.
  29. I loved this post. Seriously. Be you and own it!
    I don’t show every day either!
  30. haha I love the microwave and have lots of weird things about me too…like I actually like cleaning the bathroom.
  31. ML says:
    Ha ha, we have so many things in common! I’m glad I found your blog.
    I wear the same comfy clothes after work every day for a week. Then to the laundry they go.
    I do shower most days, but forget washing the hair. That’s every other day or more.
    I go weeks without dusting or vacuuming as well, and have gotten into the habit of cleaning the sink and wiping the counters every night! If no guests are coming over, why bother vacuuming, much less dusting, all the time.
    And the library thing, I do the same thing! I read the first 2 parts of eat pray love and then had to return it. So back to the long wait list. I reserve so many at once, thinking that I’ll get them one at a time, yet they all become available at once!
    Thanks for letting me reflect on my own habits 🙂
  32. Penny Lane says:
    Praise Jesus! I have a soul sister!
    I always thought that when I got older I would magically become a cleaner eater or that I would care more about what I wore. But oh so often I am happy to relax in sweats that I have worn for the past four evenings.
    And I have to say what do you mean your toots smell mine smell like sunshine and puppies;)
    Thanks for the real deal Tina, Your posts feel much more like what I started reading all the way back in August!
    • Tina says:
      Yay!! That makes me so happy to hear. I feel so much better with my posts lately. It’s so important to write how works for you. 🙂
  33. Lauren says:
    Oh gosh…I thought I was the only one who farted so badly. And SMELLY ones too – the ones where if I’m by myself and someone walks by I know they crinkle their nose in disgust but I never admit to it. Haha…never thought I’d admit that in public 🙂
  34. I knew I liked you for a reason: I’m gassy, too … my coworkers were quite pleased when I invested in a bottle of Beano last month. And I shower every other day (usually).
    My mom used to be a messy eater. She couldn’t get through a restaurant meal without dumping something on her shirt.
  35. I don’t even keep track of how long I wear my “comfy clothes” that I change into after work… I’d assume it’s a week, depending on what it is… lol
  36. Jenn (GH) says:
    Oh my goodness I just have to say I am the exact same way with showering!!!! He he he!!!! Don’t tell anyone. 😉
  37. “I’m proud to be different. It’s the best thing about me.”
    I heard this quote on a Glee re-run this week, and had it as my Facebook status.
    Of course, as I read your post, and the comments, I realized I am not that different after all!
  38. Hayley says:
    I LOVE this post!!! Your honesty is so refreshing…and relatable! 🙂 I, too ALWAYS wear comfy clothes around the house – and they don’t definitely don’t make it to the wash after each wear. That just seems excessive to me…he he he! I’m also a very messy eater – if it doesn’t end up on me then it ends up on the floor, table or placemat (I think Chloe is cleaner than I am). My husband is exactly the same way about the kitchen counters – he is obsessive about making sure they are always wiped down, and if I try and do it he says, “Make sure you put soap on the rag and use hot water!” Now I just let him do it since he usually goes back over it again anyway. 🙂
    I SO love these kinds of posts…good to know there are others out there like me!
  39. Haha, fun post Tina! I also can go on days..weeks.. without vacuumin but kitchen has to be spotless 🙂
  40. hahaha! I HATE showering and often go 4 days without washing my hair. Thank goodness for shower caps and dry shampoo! 🙂
  41. Kristy says:
    Okay I can come out of the closet too. I have no idea how many times I wear jeans before washing them and I also dont shower every day. Some times I even forget after a workout 🙂 Ahh much better
  42. […] in your past or present. It might be openly sharing pictures with you in them. It might be posting dirty little secrets that display the real you. It may be all of the above (raises hand in admission to being one huge […]
  43. Jaime says:
    This post cracked me up! Let’s just say my nickname when I was little was “princess brown cloud.” I think I still own it to this day. I must confess too…I don’t shower everyday, I sometimes don’t brush my teeth in the morning, I bite my nails and I hate hanging up laundry so it sits on top of the dryer for a couple days! I feel much better!
  44. carlee says:
    OMGOSH! hehehehe. I am totally with you. I’m kinda a gassy girl myself. My stomach is super sensitive.
    I seriously thought I was the only girl who wears sweats for several days while at home without washing them.
    wow! I felt disgusted by myself at those!
    We just have to be proud! lol
  45. Ha I love this. Just read it today (guess I started reading after this post …) I also am really messy. In fact, I wore an apron over my wedding dress at my reception. I need a bunch of napkins while eating too. And veggies and beans make me a gassy lady too! This made me laugh also because Mama Pea just wrote about this! Well, ah, er, her goose! I rewear workout clothes and jeans and I like to wear comfy clothes at home too!
  46. Karen says:
    I’m going running tonight in yoga pants and a tank that I wore all weekend long. They were on the floor, I picked them up and put them in my gym bag. Big deal. 🙂
    Love this post.
