the first day of fall

Posted: September 21, 2010 at 8:07 pm

I was always taught that September 21st is the official first day of fall. I don’t care if the US Government claims tomorrow is the first official day of fall. I celebrated today! Take that you high-90s weather. You try to ruin my fall spirit, but I won’t let you.

It all started this morning with a special pot ‘o gold. Or can ‘o orange. Whatever.

You better believe I incorporated pumpkin into my breakfast. Yay for the first batch of pumpkin oats of the season! My oats included 1/2 c oats, 2 heaping spoonfuls of pumpkin, 1 heaping spoonful of melted peanut butter, and a healthy dash of pumpkin pie spice.

Perhaps these were the key to my good mood today? Or the power behind my awesome spin class this morning? I just know pumpkin is a good, good way to start the day.

Pumpkin is also a good way to end the day. I already mentioned earlier that Tuesdays are Sister Night. Knowing that my sister shares the same adoration of pumpkin as I do, I had a plan.

To start the night off right with a particular pumpkin beverage. But first, we had dinner at Atlanta Bread Company. Because well, it’s attached to Starbucks. That’s reason enough for me. 😉

I had the half and half combo with chicken salad on wheat and the balsamic blue salad. I don’t think I can ever get sick of this combo. I don’t think I can ever get sick of pumpkin infused treats either.

The first pumpkin spiced latte of the season. I do wish it came in a pretty mug though. That would be more fun. And photogenic. Oh well. I’m a happy camper now. Now, I’m off to watch some Fall TV!!!!!

  • What made you smile today?
  • Do you have siblings? Are you close? I have a sister (obviously) and a brother. My brother lives in AZ so we aren’t extremely close. I still love him though! My sister and I are one and the same person. And it actually makes me a little sad that M likely won’t have that sisterly bond.

Today is National Prayer for Peace Day. Take a moment to pray that all of those across the world may feel God’s peace in their lives.

  1. I am soooo stocking up on pumpkin this year. Who the heck knew there was going to be a shortage??? Apparently not me 😉 I do have 2 cans that I’ve been seriously hoarding. LOL. Yep, I have a sister I’m super close to. I hope you have an awesome night!

  2. I LOVE pumpkin! I’m so sad because I went to get some at the food store today and they were still out of Libbys! Bummer!! I have 1 sister and we are very close. She’s in her senior year of college right now and I miss her being in NY! 🙂 Happy fall!

  3. Lisa says:

Pumpkin was finally in my grocery store yesterday. I bought every can on the shelf and only left 2. Whoops! haha.

  4. I built a similar pyramid this weekend with my pumpkin cans 🙂

  5. Rosilind says:

Ohhhhh – you made me soooooo HOMESICK for America! Pumpkin Spice Lattes and canned pumpkin (and pumpkin spices). I guess I need to go find a squash to make my own canned pumpkin. That sounds soooooo good in oatmeal! What a great idea – and a healthy one, too.

    • Tina says:

It is really good! Just be sure you use something like peanut butter or maple syrup to add a bit of sweetness. Otherwise it would be a bit bitter. I hope you find a good sub for your pumpkin cravings. 🙂

  6. to be honest I am not a huge fan of the pumpkin lattes (I know the horror!) haha they are just a bit too sweet for me! i DO love the taste of pumpkin pie spice though and sprinkle that in my coffee every so often!

    DELICIOUS oats!

  7. I can’t believe you were able to find pumpkin! I check the stores each time I go and you better believe I will be cleaning out the shelves too. My kids LOVE pumpkin bread and eat it year round when there isn’t a shortage.

I want to try the PS latte, but I refuse to drink it while it’s still in the 90s here. Pumpkin and hot weather don’t go together…

  8. Camille says:

I have a sister who is 3 1/2 years younger than me (almost to the day) and she is my best friend in the entire world. We are so different in so many ways but we still have a ton in common!

  9. Aww you guys are cute!! So glad fall is here! I was smiling and cracking up today when my coworker and I realized we were both wearing crazy socks lol. The little things make me smile, especially when people in my office are normally WAY too serious.

I am an only child and always wished I had a sibling (or two) 🙂

  10. Heather says:

How fun, I wish I had a sister. I have two brothers, and sadly I’m not close with them at all.

What made me smile today is my dog’s new thing of hiding under the bed. He gets all crazy when I go look at him from the other side, it cracks me up.

  11. omg what a fun day!

and i am posting a couple pumpkin recipes in the next day or two…you and Anna newlywed are serious addicts LOL

glad you had fun today, you deserved it after yesterday 🙂

  12. Mmm, I have yet to have a pumpkin beverage this fall – I need to change this soon! 🙂

  13. Lee says:

I have a half brother and half sister. They are much younger than I am so only in recent years have we started to become closer.

  14. I think it’s awesome you have “sister night”. My brother is still in Mid-MO going to college, so I don’t get to see him as often as I’d like. But I will say, he surprised me when he came out to stay the night at my parent’s house when I was there a couple weeks ago! He surprised everyone by showing up! 🙂

  15. I used to LOVE ABC!! I always got their tuna salad sandwich with tomatoes on sourdough when I went shopping with my mom…both of their locations near me closed though 🙁

I have an older brother, and while we’re not best friends, we’ve definitely gotten much closer as we’ve gotten older!

  16. I have two brothers and we are very close. I love the special bond that we have!

  17. First day of fall! I’ve been celebrating with pumpkin a little early, too. What made me smile today (yesterday) was the audience I was giving my presentation to. They were so enthusiastic!

  18. Sounds like a perfect way to start and finish your day! I have 3 sisters and we are all close in different ways. Our ages are at most 16 years apart, so that makes things a little different. I am so glad you had a good day! I hope Wednesday treats you well too!

  19. Mellissa says:

We don’t have any pumpkin here, I had to spend over $3 for a can of organic.

I have a brother who is 22 and we are not close at all, we are two very different people.

  20. ashleigh says:

Something that made me smile yesterday AND today was my cats.. they are just so cute and make my day better every day!

I have a brother and we aren’t very close. We are very different people and live in different states but do hang out whenever I go home. He still lives there. We have fun but we aren’t close! I always wish I had a sister!! My mom is very close with her sister and my dad’s two sisters are bffs!

  21. It’s definitely hard to get in the fall spirit with the temperatures are still high! We broke heat records all weekend!

  22. Nichole says:

Yea, glad you gave in to the Pumpkin Spice Latte, mmmm!

I love, love fall can’t wait.

I am still smiling from an amazing dinner with friends last night.

  23. all i want in life right now is a pumpkin spice latte! they’re so good…

my sister and i are really close…i love her so much, and other than nate i would say she’s my best friend. she knows the real me, ups and downs, and has been such an example of love in my life!

  24. Meg says:

Haha, can o’ orange, I love it! I have one brother who is 2 years and 2 months younger than me. Unfortunately, we aren’t very close since we are nearly complete opposites but we get along and support each other however we can.
