Aww, shucks!

FFF Featured Blogger (from your comments): Texas Gunslinger - Talia has a goal of competing in a fitness competition, but keeps it realistic and has a healthy approach. She's awesome for that!

Thanks for all the wishes to rest up and continue feeling better. I’m still doing much better than yesterday and feeling more like normal at this point My body still feels a bit tired at times and waves of nausea still come and go. Although that could be related to the 3rd trimester, which I’m in as of this week. I sincerely hope this trimester goes quicker than the others. I’m over being pregnant this go around. Constantly feeling swollen, achy, and not my normal lost its appeal quickly.

Since I took some quality time with my bed and the back of my eyelids yesterday, I need to back things up and recap a very special part of our weekend. Of course, it does not compare to M’s 2nd birthday festivities, but it still is a special time I want to share. Starting October 2008, while M was in utero, we began a family tradition of going to Uncle Shucks’ pumpkin patch and corn maze every fall.

I look forward to this every year! And every year keeps getting better as Makenzie gets older and more interested in activities like this. I already anticipate her excitement for Christmas lights this year. 😀

We started our time at Uncle Shucks with the corn maze. They create a different design each year so you always have a new course to find your way on. We go in armed with water bottles and these little cards.

IMGP7885

It should come as no surprise that I thought the space between the lines was the pathways. Despite the top left corner telling me the lines are the pathways…and its been that way each of the three times we have visited. Doh! If it weren’t for Peter saving me from my lack of directional skills, I would likely still be in the midst of all this…

IMGP7887

IMGP7897

Makenzie started off the course looking like this…

IMGP7893

…but quickly crumbled and wanted OUT. Lesson learned. Birthday party + corn maze = too much for one day. For both my pregnant body and a two year old. She quickly calmed down though when she discovered a corn maze just the right size for her.

IMGP7919

And my limited directional capacity. Please don’t laugh when I tell you I almost got lost in the kid maze. Makenzie had to lead me out.

IMGP7907

The fun continued with a family hay ride around the corn maze.

IMGP7937

IMGP7942

By that time, we needed to hit the road. Not before getting what we came for though. Makenzie had some energy to spare so we put her to work.

IMGP7870 IMGP7876 IMGP7949

And we left with two gorgeous carving pumpkins, coming to a post near you in the next week or two! 😉 (PS - No children were harmed in the production of this post.)

‘Twas a perfect way to spend a fall day. Minus waking up feeling terrible the next morning, but we can just forget about that minor detail.

  • Have you ever been to a corn maze or pumpkin patch?
  • What is your favorite fall tradition?
  • Don't forget to Ask Me Anything for a Q + A series I hope to start in November!

  1. we’re going to our Corn Maize this weekend AND getting pumpkins… two of my favorites this time of year…

looks like you had fun… (I’d most likely get lost in the kids maze as well!) 😉

    • Tina says:

Glad to know I’m not the only one! LOL

I seriously said “No, M, I think we go this way” and then Peter said “umm, no…the exit is over there”. Oops!

  2. ohmigosh the shot of her when she found the smaller maze made my heart melt! what a cutie! i love fall food – that’s for sure my favorite fall tradition 🙂

  3. Karen says:

Love your pictures! M is so cute! I love pumpkin picking….its so much fun!

  4. I am such a spaz in corn mazes. I can never find my way out, my husband always has to!

  5. emily says:

when i was in elementary school….my classes would take field trips to the pumpkin patch every year! I love it! It was sooo much fun! They hayrides…..the animals….ghost stories….and the huge pumpkins!!! Those were the good ole days!

  6. Lisa says:

That looks so fun! You do such fun things with your family! It makes me cant wait to have my own some day! =)

    • Tina says:

We did a lot of these things together before M, but doing them as a family and seeing things through her eyes makes it so much more special. 🙂

  7. That picture of her cheesing it makes me melt. Wow do I want a baby…

  8. homecookedem says:

Love the pictures!! We took a field trip to that same corn maze a few years ago. Imagine me with 20 six and seven year olds in a corn maze. Omg, talk about panic attack!! Haha! 🙂

  9. Sara says:

Pumpkin patches = found childhood memories. Looks like so much fun!

  10. I LOVE family trips to the pumpkin patch!! I can’t wait to have kids and do this with little ones!

  11. I love that picture of you and little M. I could see that hanging somewhere in your house one day. It is really beautiful!

    • Tina says:

Aw, thanks. I really need to print pictures and update the ones in our frames. I haven’t done it since she was a few months old. Yikes!

  12. Penny Lane says:

I can feel you on the directional problems. When I am in the car I can get home from about anywhere, but when I am on two feet/bicycle I can get lost faster than anyone. I can’t even imagine going through a maze, I think it would be fun but they just might have to send a search party out for me (I don’t like Maps).

  13. What a cute and fun activity! I’ve been to a pumpkin patch but never to a corn maze. That maze looks pretty complicated from the map. I can see why it was too much for little Mackenzie.

  14. ashleigh says:

I hope you are back to normal soon!

I have never done a corn maze.. I am sure I would get lost!

That picture of you and Makenzie in the baby maze is so sweet 🙂

My favorite fall tradition is apple picking and drinking hot apple cider!

    • Tina says:

I really, really hope we find a weekend to go apple picking. The first two weekends (when we could otherwise have gone) we have church retreats.

  15. Natalie says:

I have never done a corn maze but love the pumpkin patch! I haven’t been in a few years and can’t wait to have kids so we can start the tradition and go annually!

I love carving pumpkins…and toasting pumpkin seeds 🙂

    I hope you feel better!

  16. Nicole says:

Oh gosh I’m so glad you’re feeling better! I tend to fall behind on posting/blog reading too just because of work, life, etc., and when you’re sick, ‘fugetaboutit’ lol

    PS Pumpkin patches ROCK!!

  17. Loriana says:

I love corn mazes/pumpkin patches, in fact, I love Uncle Shuck’s!! I’m getting excited to do some pumpkin patch/corn maze/hay ride/small town shopping of my own this weekend 🙂

  18. Great pictures! I want to go find my own corn maze now.

  19. Cynthia says:

I’ve been to that corn maze. It’s so fun even for the adults! And I am totally directionally challenged as well. I just follow my husband so I don’t get lost.

  20. I’m glad you are feeling a little bit better–I hope you continue to rest and get well!

Your pumpkin patch corn field outing looks like such a blast. Makenzie is too too cute.

We used to go to pumpkin patches for school and it was always something that I looked forward to. I loved carving pumpkins with my mom and sister! I’ve never been in a corn maze, but imagine I would have similar navigational difficulties!

  21. Gorgeous pics! Fall is my fav, fav season of the year.

I grew up in Texas so fall was less about the cool evenings filled with pumpkin carvings then nights rejoicing that we were no longer roasting in the 90s at midnight!

But now that I am in Boston, New England fall brings me new traditions. My fav is happening this weekend where we also head to our fav apple festival, eat apple cider donuts (luv so much!) and listen to fun blue grass music. Perfection!

  22. So cute! We head to a pumpkin patch and corn maze each year and each year, I love it! But to make you feel better, I always get lost too. Last year, we spent over 3 hours in a one maze and still had to ask for directions out.

  23. Sarah says:

I love pumpkin patches and corn maizes 🙂 Makes me feel like a little kid again!

I’m glad you took Sunday to rest and recover after your hectic week/weekend. Your body probably needed the rest!! And I highly recommend Dara Chadwick’s book. I plan on giving a copy to my mother (and I kinda wish she would have read it a couple years ago when I was really struggling with my weight) and my sister. And I’m sure you’re going to amazing body image role model for your children!!

  24. Julia says:

Awww! You have the most adorable family! I love corn mazes – and they are definitely easy to get lost in, no matter what the size 🙂

  25. Awww! Happy birthday to M! Looks like lots of fall fun 🙂 My favorite fall activity is walking around the state park near my parents’ house and seeing the leaves change as the weeks pass 🙂

  26. Looks like SO much fun! That picture of Makenzie leading you through the maze is one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen! You both look so happy. 🙂

  27. Nicole, RD says:

You guys are too cute! I love pumpkin patches…I told my hubby we have to go this weekend…we have SO many right around our house. I think the combination of chili, college football, and college team hoodies are my favorite fall “tradition”! 🙂

    • Tina says:

I love finally being able to break into the hoodies! It’s still been too warm here for sweatshirts but I can’t wait. I have a feeling I will be living in them from December until the baby is born.

  28. I am posting out picks today from the pumpkin patch! I LOVE it. I hope today you are completely better!

  29. Aw, looks like a great day. She’s such a doll. I know you get that all the time!

  30. What a precious tradition! I love it!!
I’ve never been in a corn maze, but hope to this year…

    M is such a cutie!

  31. Julie says:

I love the picture of M looking like she’s in a ninja stance! So cute!

We always hit up the pumpkin patch for pony rides, hay ride, and checking out the farm animals. We love us some cute fat pigs to giggle at.

  32. Nichole says:

Cutest pics ever. Can you imagine that this time next year you’ll have TWO pumpkins with you at the patch. What a beautiful family!

  33. Camille says:

    I love pumpkin patches.
These are the kind of family events that I can’t wait to have someday!

  34. Dorry says:

Fun family day! M is sooo adorable. And you are glowing and beautiful. I really don’t know if I’ve ever been to a corn maze – definitely a pumpkin patch, though!

  35. Ohhh, what fun! I LOVE pumpkin patches! Honestly, though, until I moved to PA, I’d never been to one. It’s still pretty hot in San Antonio and not really “fall-y”…you know, leaves changing color, chilly air, carnivals. Pittsburgh is a different story and I love wearing a sweater and picking pumpkins and drinking cider and all that good stuff!

Also, THANK YOU SO MUCH, for featuring my blog! Being a new blogger, it means a lot to have a few new peeps pop in saying they found me through you. You are such a sweetheart! HUGS! 🙂

  36. Jaime says:

I love going to pumpkin patches! We are going to take the kiddos this Sunday! Can I please just pinch your daughters cheeks!? she is so stinkin’ cute! Looks like a great family day!
