Shop Til I Drop & My Wish List

Posted: December 9, 2010 at 3:26 pm

Christmas itself is not all about the gifts. Besides the special one of a savior. However, gifts do appear and I find great joy in surprising loved ones with things they wanted or needed. So today was all about the gifts. I completed a major shopping spree!

IMGP8925

That would be the result of 3 hours of shopping. I have to brag that I now have finished my Christmas shopping with the exception of my nephew. Seriously, where in the world can you find model cars?! Moving on…

I didn’t want to brave the mall today, but I convinced myself that I wouldn’t face too much madness with it being a weekday and still the first half of December. I was right. The mall was not bad at all. Pretty empty in fact.

IMGP8921

Inside the mall, I only needed to visit JC Penney (because I had a $10 off a $10 purchase coupon I refused to waste) and also Aeropostale (because I have a preteen niece who loves their stuff). I was in, out, done relatively quickly there. Bolstered by the ease of the mall, I ventured on to Toys R Us for the other children’s shopping.

IMGP8923

Not quite as peaceful. I think all of us stay at home moms were out in full force. It took forever there. I had to search high and low for all sorts of crazy things (Mighty Beans????). Luckily, I covered the list, besides the danged model car, and managed to escape only slightly flustered. I rounded out my shopping with a stop into Target and Kohls. It took 3 hours of my morning and gave me some cramps, but its worth it to have some December birthdays covered as well as gifts for everyone from Makenzie to the donation present for a youth from our church’s “compassion tree”.

IMGP8926

I get more excited shopping for other people than anticipating gifts for myself. Actually, Peter & I don’t even exchange gifts because we will purchase things we need or really, really want throughout the year. That doesn’t stop me from having a wish list though. Hey, there are always things that sound nice. Like the following…

Baby B arriving sometime in the 37-38 weeks pregnant time frame. He’ll be fully cooked at that point…and I’ll be way overdone by that point. Seems like a reasonable wish.

Insanity & TurboFire DVDs. I want. I want. I WANT!!!!

Oh how I would love to have these as part of my at home workout DVD collection to use sometime post-baby. Anyone have any sitting around dusty on their shelves they care to send my way? I’m only slightly kidding.

New tennis shoes.

My current ones are 2 years old. Yikes! I just realized that. I haven’t been motivated to buy new ones when my workouts weren’t as heavy. Clearly that is a necessity. Too bad I have no clue which I would like.

A shopping spree at Trader Joes. I haven’t been in awhile and want to go and stock up. Plus, I still have yet to try their pumpkin butter. I have pangs of jealousy every time I see it on your blogs.

Sponsorship to FitBloggin in May. A girl can dream, right?

  1. Look at you getting all of that shopping done! You DID brag on my blog! LOL You crack me up. I had a blast in Chicago but feel SO behind at work and with Christmas shopping. I DID get online tonight for over an hour with Austin + Amazon and got A LOT done! I don’t have a wish list – eek!

  2. Shannon says:

I don’t celebrate Christmas per say, namely because I’m, uh, semi-estranged from my family. Spending it alone can be a little lonely but I do appreciate not having to spend hours in a busy mall racking up credit card debt I simply can’t afford.

I don’t really have a wish list but things I’d love to treat myself too are a food processor. I’m a newly converted vegan and find my old blender not quite powerful enough to make things like nut cheeses and even hummus is a struggle. A new pair of running shoes because everytime I hit the treadmill these days, I end up with terrible heal and shin pain. A chiropractic treatment because I’m studying for my exams and my hips are stiff and sore from spending so much time sitting on my butt. A new pair of winter boots because there’s snow on the ground and I’m still alternating between my sneakers and my rubber rain boots, neither of which keeps me quite dry or warm.

  3. Great job getting your shopping done! I still have to go do mine! 🙁 I order my gift for the blogger gift exchange! 😉 I can’t wait to get it so I can send it to them!

  4. It’s amazing you’re done, I have barely started!
I really want a new coat, new sneakers, and a new camera!

  5. Congrats on finishing your shopping! I just have a little bit left to do.

  6. Astrid says:

    Awesome wish list. On mine:
    Lululemon pants
Ugg boots (I know, I know, but they look so comfy!)
    A winter jacket for Colorado
A membership to a yoga studio or gym
A shopping spree to Crate and Barrel or Pier One
I would rather do TurboFire. It looks more dancy, which could be silly and fun.

  7. Thanks for much for the comment on my post! 🙂
Congrats on getting all of your shopping pretty much done. I’m 75% done. yayyy!
Insanity and TurboFire look so awesome. i want i want i want too!

  8. I am hoping to finish my Christmas shopping this weekend. (Crossing fingers)

I’m aware it will be a madhouse, but I really don’t have the energy to go in the middle of the week after work. Even though I know crowds will be better!

  9. ashleigh says:

I love holiday shopping but the people I shop for are so hard to buy gifts for! My wish list includes a food processor and tea kettle… Also, I’d LOVE a TJ’s shopping spree, what a great idea!

  10. Lauren says:

    I don’t mind shopping if it isn’t busy…otherwise I’ll shop online.
We do the same gift type thing at my church – my mom and I had to buy a princess gift for a 3 year old the other day. I love shopping for little kids, and it’s even better knowing that the gift will make a big difference to them.

  11. “He’ll be fully cooked at that point…and I’ll be way overdone by that point”–

LOL but SO TRUE!!! By 38 weeks, i have never met a preg woman who says oh, can this just continue another 10 weeks or so 🙂

    • Tina says:

Funnily enough, when pregnant with M I had her at 38 weeks and was upset because I wanted to be pregnant longer. Although I think that had more to do with we had just finished remodeling our entire upstairs two days before and I wanted a break for at least a week. LOL

  12. Girl, GET SOME NEW SHOES!! Sorry to yell at you, but 2 years old of working out in the same shoes?! No!!! And you work out a lot!

    • Tina says:

I know! I’m usually pretty on top of that. I guess I convinced myself that over the past year I was just doing low impact stuff and they weren’t uncomfortable at all. It was hard to purchase $100 shoes when we had so many other things to put the money towards this year. I will have new ones before I start working out again though.

  13. Lee says:

I hate holiday shopping. Mostly because I don’t like crowded malls. I prefer to do my shopping online. We’ve gotten most of the stuff for people so far, but I still haven’t gotten anything for Jason.

  14. katie says:

that is a GREAT wish list my love!!! you so deserve those shoes 🙂

  15. My husband and I do the same thing- and buy things as we need/want them throughout the year. Although there was a great deal on a tool that he wanted to so picked it up to put under the tree. For the most part I don’t do Christmas shopping- I’ll be spending the next two weekend baking in the kitchen!

Side note: Model cars can be found at your local hobby store- or at least that’s where I’ve seen them. Good Luck!

  16. You are going to be so thankful that you did that today! Good for you for getting it out of the way 🙂
I still have a few to go, but I’m mostly there!

  17. Kat says:

Lady, I would love for my life to be one gigantic Trader Joe’s shopping spree. That place is like the mother ship.

Ironically, new running shoes are on my list as well. I never thought I would ask for them as a gift, but now I can’t think of anything else I would like more!

  18. omgosh i did the same today! 7 hours of shopping ahhh. still have more to go!

  19. I love the practice of holiday shopping but refuse to step foot near a mall after Thanksgiving, it’s just too hectic for me. On another note, JCP rocks, one of my favorite places!

  20. Wow, you’re waay ahead of the game! I went to Joan’s yesterday and the line was incredibly long even though it was early afternoon on a work day! Crazy stuff.

I have quite a few Christmas projects going right now and will be thrilled to be done!

  21. Emily says:

I went shopping today, too! My mom and I hit the malls and I knew that with all my shopping done I would be buying for myself…Hey, it’s cold in New England and I need more sweaters! I think my list is pretty much covered which is awesome; mostly winter wear and also a pretty new apron 🙂 Thinking of you lots, don’t worry you WILL get through this slow stretch and have such a wonderful Christmas gift of a brand new baby to love and make your family grow 🙂 Enjoy!!

  22. chelsey says:

I love holiday shopping – I love getting gifts for others. I can’t imagine getting everyone gift cards! 🙂 I have one of those Penney’s coupons too. I need to go use it!!

  23. Priyanka says:

Good job on getting the shopping done, well almost! I like the holiday shopping season, this is the time when I get my shopping done for my family back home in India.

  24. dmcgirl says:

I love your site and cannot wait to explore it over the weekend!

    • Tina says:

Aw, thanks so much. It’s got a lot of stuff – from emotional madness caused by the end of this pregnancy to sharing about the fitness competition I did a year ago to my ramblings on full health and wellness. I can’t wait to get to know you more through blogging. 🙂

  25. Camille says:

I looove shopping for other people. Unfortunately I am broke this year, so everyone gets cookies. When I have the money, I go spending crazy on everyone 🙂

  26. Marg says:

I swear I’ve seen the model cars at Michaels Arts and Crafts, if not there maybe Hobby Lobby?

Today I love Holiday shopping because I found some great deals at TJ maxx.

  27. Wow you got a lot done! I had to get model planes for a kid last week but it was at some random store so unfortunately I can’t help ya.

  28. Heather says:

i would LOVE to go to BlogHer food next year…that counts as a wish list item, right?!

  29. Tatianna says:

I love holiday shopping! Congratulations on getting it all done in one trip – that’s one heck of an accomplishment, especially for a pregnant woman!

I honestly don’t have anything on my wish list. I have everything I need.. really! My present was a laptop, which I got early in order to have it up and running for school in January.

  30. jen says:

I asked for Turbo Fire and Insanity for Christmas too, I really want both of them!!!

My longest pregnancy was 37 weeks and my shortest was my youngest, he decided he was fully cooked at 36 weeks and that little chubber was still 8lbs 3oz at a month early!!!

    Jen

  31. I hope B comes out a little early for you too! We went shopping in the other direction yesterday…and our Toys R Us was crazy! We also went to Target and let’s just say that was an experience. Luckily we have decided to go the less stressful route this year and go with the flow! I need new tennis shoes so badly too!

  32. I have yet to start ANY of my Christmas shopping. Ugh. My holiday wish list is full of things I need anyway…sports bras, new running shoes, jars of PB and dark chocolate. Keeping it simple…Mom and Dad already give me so much!! The presents are more for the sake of having something to open under the tree 🙂

Hope you have a great Friday!!

  33. Ugh I am sooooo behind this year on shopping. Don’t know what my problem is. I want those two workouts too!

  34. I’m almost done shopping — but I still need to finish my Christmas cards – ugh! Those take forever. But I do enjoy making them. They need to get mailed by Monday, so you know what I’ll be doing this weekend.

My list: VitaMix, new George Foreman, long john type PJs from Vic Secret, more flannel sheets, barnes and noble gift cards (for Nook books), coffee cups for my Keurig machine. I feel so greedy wanting all of that stuff!

  35. Mary says:

You can get model cars from Hobby Lobby or Michaels – plus they usually have some sort of coupon that you can use too!

  36. I don’t mind holiday shopping as long as it’s early in December. It seems the closer it gets, the more crowded it gets and I never go out on black friday (minus this year when we went to kohls for an hour).

  37. Pregnant and facing the crowds at TOys R Us? You deserve everything on your wish list! 😉

  38. The pumpkin butter isn’t THAT great. Does that make you feel better?

  39. Let’s just say that I love that online shopping exists 🙂

  40. Turbo Fire is on my want list as well!!!! And girl, insanity will get you right back to your pre baby body asap! Its one of the best workouts ever!!!

  41. Lindsey says:

I actually DO like holiday shopping..I love this time of year!

I’m back to teaching Turbokick again…I took a hiatus this past year with my relocation to Ohio and what not…I’m glad to be teaching it again, I love the Turbo workouts! I have not heard of that Turbo Fire though, that looks neat!
