Start of Something Exciting

Posted: February 1, 2011 at 4:32 pm

I’m doing a little victory dance right now. (<--- That video will never get old!)

We had a fabulous day in these parts. I felt more rested than the past couple of days. Things weren’t hectic around here at all today. We also had a play date with our good friends, Danielle (for me) and Riley (for Makenzie).

Girl time certainly helps break up the day nicely. Danielle just ventured into stay-at-home-mom territory and I can’t wait to spend more time hanging out together. Our little girls love each other too!

After our play time, I made a simple lunch of leftover soup with a slice of 9 grain bakery bread topped with a slice of swiss.

I always have the most difficulty deciding what to eat for lunch. Thank goodness for leftovers that make for simple and satisfying meals. Although I don’t consider it quite as satisfying as my lunch “dessert”. I always enjoy a square of dark chocolate with a cup of decaf coffee during their afternoon naps. It’s my little moment of heaven every day. You think I’m exaggerating? Ha! I love it so much I didn’t even pause for a picture of it. That’s how much I enjoy it.

Now, I have just finished munching my afternoon snack of Chobani and an apple.

I seriously can eat this snack every day. It does not get old. Ever. Plus it makes for the perfect pre-workout fuel and I need that as today marks the start of something exciting for me.

That’s right. Today I am officially beginning the Couch To 5K program. So, with that…I’ll catch you later.

Question of the Evening – Is there a snack you can never get sick of? And have you ever done C25K?

I’m actually currently working through the C25K program. Unfortunately, I’m prone to lower leg injuries and have to limit running to only 1 day a week. As such it’s taken me about a month to move to week 3. I love running and I’m looking forward to the day when I can do it without shin and foot pain. Good luck!

  2. Congrats on preparing for Couch to 5-K! Lately a snack I love is pb on a caramel rice cake 🙂 I never get tired of pb…so it was SO WEIRD when the first thing to go when I got preggo was the pb. It did NOT sound good!

  3. I could eat a green apple with Greek Yogurt and peanut butter dip every day! It is definitely my favorite snack of all time and it is so satisfying! Good luck on training for your 5k! I know you are going to kick some serious couch butt!

  4. I’m so glad you’ve gotten some better rest!

Snack I would never tire of = bananas. I love bananas!

I did Couch to 5K in 2008, and I can’t say enough about it! It was hard for me to run the 30 seconds at the beginning, and humbling to realize that was hard for me, but I gradually worked up to the 5K and haven’t looked back. I’m training for my first half-marathon this spring. I hope you enjoy it!

  5. I’m interested to see how your C25K goes! I’ve thought of doing it before!

Yogurt and fruit is one of my favorite snacks!

  6. I started the C25K a few months after H was born in 2009. It was my first real venture into running and the slow easy pace was perfect for me so I didn’t get discouraged. I’ve been running ever since. I’ve done a few 5k’s and am doing my first 10k this Sunday, assuming it will stop snowing sometime here in Boston!

Good luck with your training! Have you scheduled your first race?

    • Tina says:

Thats so awesome! And i haven’t scheduled it yet, but I do have my eye on one. I want to learn a bit more about it before I commit though.

  7. Congrats on the new commitment! I’m actually trying to get my husband to start that up as well, but he’s a little less motivated… 😉

  8. I love Couch to 5k! It’s what got me into running several years ago!! Such a great program 🙂

  9. My snack that never gets old is my Greek Yogurt and 1/2 red grapefruit!

I am doing a different version of C25K called Girls Gotta Move (linky on my blog) and i’m three weeks into the five. I LOVE it much better than C25K — mainly because it allows me to run for 3 and walk for 2. Today I actually go up a minute in my training for a 4/1–wish me luck!

These C25K training programs are really great!!! Im so glad they are available to us! Good luck with your’s!!! I’ll be watching! :o)

Sounds like a fun girl playdate 🙂 I love fruit (especially blueberries and strawberries) mixed with low fat or fat free cottage cheese. I used to hate cottage cheese but now I love it. Trader Joe’s has an awesome ff cottage cheese.

    Good luck with you C25K!

  11. So awesome you’re aiming for a 5K! I don’t know how much reading time you have, but the best book I read when getting into running was John Bingham’s Courage to Start. It’s so inspiring!

As for running tunes… I’ve got a mess of them. P!nk’s God Is a DJ, Billy Squire’s Everybody Wants You, & LL Cool J’s Control Myself pop to mind! Would love to see your list!

  12. I loved C25K, It was so helpful for me since I had no running background at all.Congrats on starting. 🙂

  13. […] lots to talk about anyways so it works. Did you miss those posts because they published so fast? I started something I’m excited about and need some suggestions for workout […]

  14. Well now…I believe you and I both know I made it to my first 5K using this program! 🙂 It’s awesome, it rocks, it works, it’s amazing. 🙂 I can’t say enough about it, and what I love is that it got me through a really bad mental barrier. 🙂

Good luck, Tina…you’ll get there in NO time. 🙂

  15. Yay! I’m so excited for you! Have you picked a 5k?

  16. Melodie says:

I love the C25K… that is how I started back running about 2 years ago 🙂 I talked my boss into using that program also and she ran her first 5k last fall 🙂 It really is a GREAT program!

  17. That’s great you are doing the C25K! I’ve never done it, but have run 5Ks. In fact I am running one on the 19th! I’ve always done my own training program (if you can call it that hah!) and I basically run 2-3x per week. I try and keep a base of being able to run 3 miles so I can just sign up for random races…if I want to run a longer race, I begin to add in a ‘long run’ once per week. Extensive training, right 😉

  18. Me and mine are doing it now! (Well, I found a different program via Healthy Tipping Point that I want to try. But essentially the same thing!) Good luck, Tina! I’m just so happy I have actually been able to get my husband to lace up his Christmas running shoes and go with me!

  19. I did the C25K program from Feb-April 2010. Since then I’ve been successfully running 3-4x a week, at least a 5K. It has changed my life and I love running. I listen to anything and everything when I am running, but I gotta have my music. I consider it my workout partner.

It’s kind of funny. I become a certified personal trainer and the first workouts I turn to this week come from someone else. The book came in for me at the library last week and, after flipping through it, I couldn’t wait to give the circuits a go. Making The Cut includes a lot of […]
