Nutcrackers and Space Shuttles

Posted: February 16, 2011 at 6:58 pm

As many of you likely figured out from my earlier post, we had a family game night last night. My brother had to travel home to Arizona today so we planned a low-key and fun evening all together before he left.

After getting in my Legs & Glutes workout, my mom, sister, and brother showed up for dinner. I had prepared my favorite White Chicken Chili for dinner and my mom brought some Mexican cornbread to go with it.

I need to get the recipe for that cornbread. It is so good!

Once our taste buds became adequately spiced from dinner and the kids were in bed, we started up a round of Cranium.

Like I mentioned before, my sister and I usually kill at this game. Did you see her go from guessing “Elton John” to  “puppet show” in 2 seconds flat?

Due to our creepy knack for guessing each other’s clues, we went for a random division of teams by pulling numbers. Guess who ended up together??? You can tell Heather is looking at my camera (the fun one) and I’m looking at my mom’s (the JUST SMILE WILL YOU one).

That’s more like it. Goofy is way more fun.

On to the game! Things started off rougher than anticipated for the victory team. We actually trailed most of the game. Apparently, my mother’s phallic space shuttles made a connection with the guys?

Or me trying to act out “nutcracker” steered us off course?

nutcracker

No. It must have been Peter’s intensity that got them ahead at the start.

Let’s take a closer look shall we? I cannot for the life of me get over this face…

Don’t worry. I warned him I was posting that picture. Although, he may have thought I was kidding. Oh no, my dear man. Oh no.

Somehow, at the end, knowing that dogs sniff out truffles and a charading of “triathalon” brought us back. Then the epic “puppet show” won it all. The champions continue to reign!

My dear brother Tommy, you will be missed until we meet again. Then, we will yet again get another chance to defeat you. And of course have little M call you that nickname you so hate love. Tata for now Uncle Tookypucket.

Question of the Evening – Which would you rather do: Act, Draw, Hum, Answer Trivia, or Spell?

  1. That looks like you had such a fun night! I love game nights.

  2. Answer trivia, act and spell — in that order.

It does look like you had a blast. I’d like to do more game night type of things …

  3. Cranium is MY FAVORITE GAME! Sooo fun, especially if, like you and your sister, your team is unstoppable. I like spelling, drawing, and acting.

Congratulations on continuing your victory streak. Is it a streak if it lasts forever??

  4. Julie says:

    What fun!
I think I’m better at drawing or spelling. Acting is my worst! I get so frustrated and can’t think worth beans.

  5. Aw how fun! I love game nights! Even though I’m a musical theatre major, I HATE acting things out in games! I know, weird! Haha! Even though I am pretty bad at drawing, I would much prefer to draw.

  6. Leashieloo says:

Cranium is SO fun! We always end up rolling on the floor laughing at people’s imitations and such, looks like you guys had a ball!

  7. Tookypucket!?!? I like answering trivia and spelling!

    • Tina says:

I don’t even know where it came from. But it drives him crazy and its fun. We had M greet him as Uncle Tookypucket. I wish I had a picture of his face then!

  8. Looks like so much fun! The family that plays together, stays together!

  9. Sorry he had to go! That makes me sad. I would rather draw, but it is sad to do when you live with an artist.

  10. Trivia all the way (as long as its about pop culture/entertainment!). 🙂

  11. Heather says:

Tookypucket!? That’s awesome! Looks like you guys had an absolute blast!! Too funny!

I’m a pretty good speller most of the time and I love to draw!

  12. This post was hysterical!! I definitely prefer drawing things out, because whenever I try to act it out I end up laughing too hard for anyone to know what I’m doing 🙂

  13. Errign says:

I have never played Cranium – is that weird?!

  14. looks like fun! I love the pic of m and tommy:)

  15. That looks like so much fun! I’m a trivia girl for sure….for some reason my brain absorbs random useless info..hehe

  16. Courtney says:

Sounds like you all had a great time! I’d want to draw for sure, I’m terrible at trivia haha. 😛

  17. Hahaha awesomeness all around! That sweet parting photo reminds me of when I have to leave my nieces and nephews!!

  18. Lauren says:

Those pictures are priceless! I always rule the spelling ones – I was on the spelling time in 5th and 6th grade, nerd alert.

  19. I always choose the clay! THE CLAY! If not – drawing or spelling FO SHO! Great pics – the space shuttle pic made me LOL!

  20. answer trivia!! I’m a huge nerd. 🙂

  21. lindsay says:

DRAW!! I am so much better at that. I stink at acting, haha. I love the sister pictures. SO fun!

  22. spell or answer trivia!

i love the family pics of you all! 🙂

  23. Helen says:

I love games, we need to have more game nights around our house.

I would have to go with spell. For some reason I just have a knack for that.

  24. i am shockingly good at the spelling cards in cranium! i love it. and brad is the BEST at the humdingers. such a fun game!!

    • Tina says:

Jealous you have a man good at the humdingers. That sounds naughty…

But anyways – Peter once missed Bon Jovi. HOW!? We had been to his concert like two weeks before too. Hahaha!

  25. I always choose the blue card! My husband can draw with his eyes closed and I can sculpt anything! <3 favorite game ever! well… scattegories is a close tie! =)

  26. I loveeee Cranium! I would rather spell or answer a trivia question (I rock in those categories). It looks like you guys had such a nice night 🙂

  27. looks like the perfect evening! i love board games!! i played cranium with my family when we went skiing and I have to say I wish I was better at the spelling portion! its harder than it looks! lol…I can NAIL the acting though 😉

  28. Nothing is better than a game night. We hosted one a couple weeks ago and it was a blast. My favorite is Catchphrase!

  29. I’m so good at the spelling ones, where you have to spell backwards and stuff like that. My husband is a trivia king. Not me, I don’t know squat.

    • Tina says:

That’s like us. I do great with spelling and word puzzles but trivia I stink at. I was so shocked I knew about the dogs sniffing truffles. I must ahve read that on a blog somewhere. Haha!

  30. Rach says:

Bhahaha! I love the close up on Peter’s face! Hilarious!

    Definitely act! 🙂

  31. I like the trivia and drawing ones – especially when you have to draw with your eyes closed! 🙂

  32. Haha. The photo of Peter cracked me up.

I love family game nights. There’s nothing like a little competition!

  33. Runeatrepeat says:

Love games and cornbread! Sounds like a blast 🙂

  34. Shannon says:

What a fun night! We had a crazy jenga match on New Years Eve that we’re still laughing about! Love game nights!

  35. I love to act more than anything!! Or something like TABOO

  36. whoaaa cranium is far too intense of a game for me. you look like champion players

  37. Lee says:

    Answer trivia or draw.

  38. Heather says:

oh man, i don’t mean to brag but i’m REALLY good at cranium despite the fact that the only thing i LIKE to do in it is spell! haha…we should play together sometime!

  39. I really hate games like that b/c I just feel soooo out of my element. If I just relax and go with it, then they end up being fun though. I think I’d rather answer trivia or try to draw than act. Though I have had to hum before.

  40. I love family game night! I’d rather guess trivia. I’m horrible at drawing!

  41. I definitely prefer acting!! makes it a lot more fun!! I love that game! 🙂

  42. Holly says:

Okay….I seriously want to have family game night with YOUR family. 🙂

I love family game nights! People might disagree with me, but the Wii and video games don’t have ANYthing on good old fashioned board games!

Hmmm….I guess I’d rather hum? Or spell?

  43. I would take drawing or answering trivia any day! I hate the acting one, only because I am TERRIBLE at it.

That pic of Peter is priceless!

  44. I LOVE THIS! Such fun!!! You and so sister are so beautiful together!

I love acting – I’m all about the charades in Cranium!

  45. what a fun night!!!! Looks like such fun!!

  46. I think I am probably better at spelling and drawing, but I enjoy the craziness of the acting and humming. I have been known to get pretty giddy playing games like Cranium. 🙂

  47. Stephanie says:

I love allllll parts of it! LOL…the humming cracks me up though! His face…bahahahah. I’m sure he’s super pumped about that one blasted over the internetz. 🙂

  48. I LOVE family game nights! When I go home for weekends, that’s all I enjoy doing! My favorites are Mad Gab & Trouble 🙂 Looks like you had a great time!

  49. Karen says:

Looks like a fun night with your family!! Game nights are always a blast! Have you ever played Apples to Apples? That’s one of our family’s favorite games!
