Sumo Fashion Show?

Posted: February 28, 2011 at 11:02 am

Peter had to travel to New York this weekend for his grandmother’s funeral. The kids and I stayed back because financially (3 plane tickets @ $600/piece? NO!) and logistically (driving 14+ hours with a 6 week old? NO!) all of us traveling didn’t really work. Before he left for the weekend we headed out for a family night out.

Yet again, we had a Groupon to use. Somehow we always end up waiting until the last minute with these things. We headed out to Tin Drum Asia Cafe.

They specialize in a variety of noodle, curry, and fried rice bowls. And apparently special fashion shows. Perhaps we wouldn’t have body image issues if these were the standard for fashion shows? 😉

I went before, to the restaurant – not the fashion show - and tried a curry bowl. This time, I went for a noodle bowl since I would have to share with miss M. I ordered the Lo Men which included shrimp, mushrooms, carrots, onions, green onions, bok choy, and of course the noodles in a light sauce.

It was good, but I’m glad we had the Groupon. I don’t know if its worth the full price. What is worth the full price? Frozen yogurt. Always. A Yogli Mogli sits across the street from the Tin Drum and I had my eye on going there from the beginning. What can I say? I always have a hankering for dessert!

I somehow managed to feast on that creation and still not feel 100% full. Eat like that and still fit in jeans 6 weeks post partum that took you months to fit into post-Makenzie? Gotta love nursing! ;)

Question of the Day – Which would you order: Noodle, Curry, Rice? Sumo fashion show – intriguing or scary?

  1. LindseyAnn says:

Can I go with option C–hysterical? That would be something to see, for sure!

  2. Curry all the way! I’ve gotten in to curry these last 2 years and I can never seem to get enough! 🙂

  3. Runeatrepeat says:

I would go with noodles 🙂 And I would 100% go with fro-yo after!

  4. I’d go with noodles!!! And I don’t know if you knew this, but there is a separate compartment in the stomach for fro-yo 😉

  5. Stephanie says:

Probably curry or rice. 🙂 I would love to see the sumo fashion show. I always appreciate a unique experience. hehe

  6. Sorry to hear about Peter’s grandmom. I’d go with the noodle…I’m a noodle girl all the way!

  7. Maren says:

The fashion show, not going to lie, sounds pretty scary.

  8. Angela says:

Curry for me!!! I don’t normally order noodles/pasta in restaurants because I’m of the mind that they’re easy enough to make at home. And sumo fashion shows… a little scary I think!

  9. Mmm I love curry, so that’s what I’d go for!

Haha I’d love to see a Sumo fashion show! Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all. 🙂

  10. a sumo fashion show would be pretty hysterical!

I can NEVER pass up fro yo!!

  11. Kacy says:

Sorry to hear about your family’s loss 🙁 You’ll be in my thoughts and prayers!

I love bowls like that and would have a horrible time trying to choose between the three options!

    • Tina says:

      Thanks, Kacy!

And that’s something hard about the restaurant. You order at the counter and there’s always a line. So, you walk in and basically have 5 minutes to decide what you want between all these different options. I had to make a shotgun decision when I finally got to the counter. Stressful! LOL

  12. A sumo fashion show? Definitely intriguing.

Noodle, curry or rice? I don’t think you can go wrong no matter what you choose.

  13. Sumo fashion show = SCARY!!! 🙂 Glad you had a good time with the family. And props to you for being a single mommy this weekend!

  14. I hope everything went well for Peter. I hate that his family has to go through this now. Sumo fashion show sounds kind of weird, but who am I to judge? I would go for the rice…I think. Have a great day Tina!

    • Tina says:

It was upsetting to hear, but at the same time we have been expecting it for awhile. I think we’re all more at peace now because she was suffering so much at the end.

  15. Well that’s got to make for an interesting evening! I think I’d probably go with the noodles (especially if they had soba noodles).

  16. Amanda says:

That Lo Mein looks delicious…then you go and add the froyo!
    My tummy is jealous 😉

  17. I’d definitely go for curry. Love me some spice! As for the fashion show, I have to say that it kind of freaks me out. I’m all for embracing your body type and not stressing over size, but to me there is nothing good about being that overweight…even if you are a sumo wrestler!

  18. So sorry about Peter’s grandmother. I think staying behind is for the best… even though you can’t physically be with him, you are doing a helpful thing by watching the kids. Plus, wow… I had no idea plane tickets there are so expensive!!

Gotta love the sumo fashion show idea, though don’t they not wear many clothes to begin with?? 😉

I definitely want to try nursing if/when I have a kid, mostly for money-saving, but being able to eat a little more while still getting into clothes would be great, too.

  19. Kathie says:

    A sumo fashion show?! Interesting…

  20. Sorry for your family’s loss 🙁

I’d skip the entree and go straight to dessert I think – your frozen yogourt looks so yummy!!

A sumo fashion show would certainly be interesting – I’d go, but I think I would avoid sitting in the front few rows 😉

  21. chrissi says:

love yogli mogli 😉 i do hear that nursing helps shed the lbs quickly…

  22. I always have my eye on dessert before the meal too 🙂 I’ve never heard of yogli mogli, but it looks delicious!

I think I’d choose noodles, but all 3 options sound great. As for the fashion show, it sounds like it would be entertaining!

  23. Mellissa says:

So sorry to hear about Peter’s Grandmother.

    • Tina says:

It’s been a long time coming, but still upsetting. I think we were all more worried about Peter’s dad and how he is handling it.

  24. Sarah R says:

There is always room for frozen yogurt. Always. 🙂

  25. Dorry says:

I love noodles in Asian dishes – and rice, too. But noodles are more satisfying to me. I hope Peter had safe travels and some closure with his family at the funeral.

  26. Noodles AND currrryyy!!! The froyo looks so good. I feel like it’s becoming one of my cravings often nowadays. 😛 The great thing is that it helps with digestion! I think. 🙂

  27. Sounds like you made the best decision about staying home. Thoughts and prayers with you, Peter, and the family.

    I’m all about the noodles!

  28. I always love Asian noodle dishes, especially rice noodles.

  29. Lauren says:

I’d choose curry! Curried veggies are some of my favorite. Um, sumo fashion show? I’d be interested in seeing it, but I may be a little scared.

  30. Hi, Tina! I’m so glad I found my way to your blog 🙂 Your frozen yogurt looked delicious! I had some this weekend too, and still didn’t feel 100% full afterwards, either! 🙂

  31. The Sumo Fashion Show sounds interesting – albeit strange to watch while eating haha.
I would always choose noodles. I could eat pasta every day. And you can never have too much fro-yo. 😉

  32. Emily says:

Wow that fro-yo looks so good! I have been craving it like crazy today, and seeing that picture just sealed the deal, I must have some!

And thank you very much for your comment on my blog last week. As a new blogger, I rarely ever have comments, so it really excites me when I do! Thanks again, I love your blog!

  33. I would be so torn between the curry bowl and the noodles, but would probably end up with the curry. 🙂

  34. I pick the fro yo! I haven’t had it in so long and those toppings look divine!

  35. I’m sitting here STARVING and that noodle bowl couldn’t look more appetizing. I’ll admit it, I’m a carbivore! 😉

  36. That noodle bowl looks fantastic!! Love the Groupon!

  37. I would pick noodles! I don’t think I would enjoy a sumo fashion show. I think I would rather skip the show!

  38. I’m a little hesitant about the Sumo fashion show, but at the same time, why not?! Celebrate everyone’s body type! Yum, that frozen yogurt looks delicious! I’d double that and eat that as my meal instead 🙂

  39. Kelly says:

    WOW!!! You’re in a size 6 already! Amazing! 🙂

    • Tina says:

Well I wasn’t referring to the size (although it is a 6). I meant that its been 6 weeks post-partum that I’m fitting into these jeans. But you caught me! I try not to mention sizes though.

  40. Allie says:

You do seem like you love your desserts! LOL.. I would too if Pittsburgh had frozen yogurt shops around here! A Sumo fashion show sounds interesting 😉

  41. Curry is one of my favorites so I would have went with a curry dish. Sumo fashion show? Ummmm….I am going to have to go with scary.

  42. emma says:

i so wish we had fro-yo places over here!

  43. I LOVE tin Drum and yogli mogli! They put in a yogli mogli but our house, and there’s a tin drum by my office – nom nom nom!
