Sick Tidbits

Posted: April 7, 2011 at 8:16 am

I ate a chocolate chip ice cream cookie sandwich last night for dinner. It was the only thing that sounded good with my immensely aching body and super sore throat.

After the fact I figured I probably should have had a green smoothie instead. So, I made up for it by making one for breakfast.

C’mon nutrients – do your thing! Make me feel normal again. Purty puh-lease!

I hoard the best bites of my food from Makenzie. I think she is catching on because she waited until this was all that was left before asking for a bite of my oatmeal yesterday. You know…back before I felt like walking death.

I find tracked in dirt after just cleaning the floors one of life’s biggest annoyances. More than traffic, multiplying dishes, and people chatting on phones at the gym. Yes, I clearly worry about the important things. Most importantly, I faced that annoyance yesterday and not today when heads would likely have rolled. I never said I’m a nice sick.

I need a date night with my husband. It’s been since before B was born. I miss dates.

Our last date night with me in all my 9 months pregnant glory.

I also miss a full night’s sleep. Especially when sick. And I must admit that one of the reasons I look forward to FitBloggin’ is a couple of nights of uninterrupted sleep. Oh, wait. I will still have to wake up to pump. Darn.

I rarely cuss out loud, but admittedly have a potty mouth running at times in my head. Therefore, you now know I did not really say “darn” when writing the above statement about sleep.

I am counting down the days until Saturday. Why? I get to make these to bring to my friends’ pot luck dinner.

Dear Lord,
Please help me feel better before then so I can happily consume those three layers of heaven. Amen.

I couldn’t tell whether to praise or curse (in my head, of course) Damn You Autocorrect. It provided a worthy distraction for my pain…but it still hurt to laugh. And darn it all I just laughed at the irony that the site is called '”Damn You Autocorrect”.

autocorrect

I used to not believe in naps, but then I needed one yesterday. That should have been my first sign I was sick. Now, I anticipate my chance to nap today. I would almost trade my chance to eat numerous cookies and cream bars for a nap. Almost.

  • Do you ever curse?
  • What kind of “sick” are you? Angry? Moany? Needy? Denial-y?

  1. I don’t really curse unless I’m really, really angry. Anytime my husband hears one come out of my mouth he says, “You must be really mad.”

I might whine, just a little, when I’m sick. 🙂

  2. Mmm, cookie wich sounds like a perfect dinner! 🙂 Maybe you should start saving a ‘Makenzie bite’ of your oatmeal next to the pb so don’t have to give away the good stuff. 😉

  3. I’m glad you’re starting to feel better, Tina!! Being sick is not fun – I hate how it throws off my appetite, sleep and exercise. I rely on all those things to stay sane 🙂
Date nights are the best – hope you and your hubby get out soon!

  4. Allie says:

Next time I have a sore throat I am totally eating a frozen ice cream sandwich 🙂

  5. Bahaha – that autocorrect is hilarious!
And yes, I have more of a potty mouth than I’m proud of 🙁

  6. Amanda says:

Do you have the recipe for that potluck dessert and what you put in your green smoothies? I’d love to have them! Thanks!!

    • Tina says:

The potluck dessert recipe is linked to in this post. It’s on the How Sweet Blog. My links are showing up weird for some reason (hard to tell apart from other text). I linked the word “these” in that sentence. Or you can search “Triple Layer Cookies & Cream Bars” on the site http://www.howsweeteats.com

And for green smoothies – I always do 1-1.5 cups of unsweetened vanilla almond milk, 1 frozen banana, a couple handfuls of spinach, and occasionally whatever other fruit sounds good – mango, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple. Right now I’m digging the strawberries. 🙂

  7. Anne Marie says:

    1. I curse like a sailor.
    2. I’ve really been meaning to hit up green monsters again. I bought spinach tonight!!
    3. I don’t remember the last time we had a date night. We bought a house instead.
    4. I have about 8 million auto correct #FAILS a day
    5. I am the neediest sick person on the planet. I just cry.

    Love this post!!

  8. I hope you are feeling better soon! I am very denial-y when I am sick, although it never makes me feel better any faster 🙂

  9. Dorry says:

hahahhaa – the autocorrect is SO hilarious. And yes, I curse. In my head, out loud, it happens. I’m trying to be better about it, though. OK, well, that’s kind of a lie. 🙂

I’m not a good sick – I hate when anything comes between being active (workouts, hanging out with friends, grocery shopping) and eating! If I’m sick enough that I’m not hungry, or worse – can’t taste anything – I’m a total grouch to be around.

  10. I hope you feel better soon! I totally hoard the best bites of food too, and someone always asks for a bite and wants the best part!

  11. I can’t remember when I stoped cursing, but I’m glad I did. For the date part, better late than never, right?

Don’t feel the pressure to go on X dates per month cause other bloggers do that. You’re a busy, active mom and you two make a pretty good team at handling things around your house.

When I’m sick, everybody has to know it. I like having all the attention and then feel bad for wanting that. I want to be cuddled and kissed and someone to say that it’s all gone end in no time if I do what needs to be done: rest, eat and take my pills.

    • Tina says:

We used to do one date night every week for a long, long time. I don’t feel pressured from others to have dates. I just firmly believe in their importance because the marriage always has to be #1 in a family. We still make time for each other, but 3+ months with no “date” date is so off from our norm. I just miss them. 🙂

  12. Hope you feel better soon! I’m also looking forward to uninterrupted sleep…but with a 2 week old newborn, I have a feeling it is going to be a long, long time:)

    • Tina says:

True. But when it drops to only 2x a night and then 1x a night, it always feels like uninterrupted sleep. So things will feel better sooner than you think. 🙂

  13. Lee says:

Damnyouautocorrect is so funny! I’ve been in tears laughing at it. I would say I’m somewhere in the middle of not really cursing and having a potty mouth. I definitely do it but I can control it and don’t really curse at work and around people that wouldn’t appreciate it.

Hope you feel better. I think you might need frozen yogurt for your throat.

  14. Jan says:

Hope you feel better soon. I want a bite of your “three layered slice of heaven”. 🙂 And LOL about your text. Blasted auto correct. It’s just horrible. Yours is extremely funny though…..”fondled”…tee hee. 🙂

  15. I have read so many posts regarding the blogger lovers however
this paragraph is genuinely a good article, keep it up.
