Hunting Down A Good Monday

Posted: April 11, 2011 at 5:15 pm

Well the day just flew by today, didn’t it? I guess that happens when you have a lot on your plate for the day. I started out at the gym. I restarted the same workout schedule I picked up last week, since I got sick right after starting. That meant a 50 minute spin class and the following circuit completed 3 times through.

  • push-ups (10 on toes, 5 on knees)
  • mountain climbers (20 reps per leg)
  • dumbbell bench press (10 reps)
  • squat jumps (15 reps)
  • overhead tricep extension (10 reps)

That circuit is quick and to the point. It takes just under 15 minutes to get through, but leaves you spent. I had to kill a little more time before leaving the gym, so I did a round of 30 second planks to finish out my gym time. Then, I immediately devoured this yogurt bowl in the parking lot.

I packed up some Chobani mango yogurt, raspberries, cheerios, and crushed butter toffee almonds with a banana to have on the go after the gym.

I can only eat something light before my workouts, so I knew I would need extra fuel to hold me over afterwards. You see, we had to go straight to an Easter egg hunt with the mom’s club this morning.

We don’t do the Easter Bunny thing, but egg hunts sure are fun this time of year. Makenzie lived it up. She found her 10 eggs and then forgot about them when she realized she got to have a special decorated cookie.

Thank goodness for play time at the park to burn off some of that sugar rush.

Perhaps I should have taken a cookie myself. I could have used a sugar rush to get through the rest of my day. I still managed to power through most of my to-dos this afternoon. Then, I rewarded myself with a homemade Tropical Flax bar, apple, and peanut butter.

And now. I think I need a shower. Catch you all tomorrow with Month 3 progress catch-up!

  • What breakfasts do you like to take with you on the go? My yogurt bowl was a perfect, filling option for me. I still love extra ideas in a pinch, though. Share away!

  2. great circuit routine and your little one is as cute as ever! 🙂

I’m a big fan of peanut butter and banana on sprouted grain bread. In fact I rarely have breakfast without PB and banana incorporated in some way! 🙂

  3. you didn’t have a cookie??!!! 😉

Awesome workout! I LOVE spin, but can never take the classes usually because of kids…. I do my own thing, but it’s never as hard as the classes!

  4. Lauren says:

I’ve been relying on yogurt bowls & overnight oats to grab in the morning. So easy & saves time in the morning.

  5. Mellissa says:

Dry cereal, yogurt, larabars, homemade granola are my staples for breakfast at work 🙂

  6. Jess says:

Yum! Love me a good yogurt bowl! I never think to bring them on the go though – I usually eat them on the weekends, and eat oatmeal or something during the week at work. but maybe tomorrow it’ll be a yogurt bowl for me in the AM too! PS. I just tried the mango Chobani, was so good!! I can’t decide which I like better – black cherry, lemon or mango, tough call

  7. Allie says:

Is that iced coffe I see in the last picture?! YUUUUUM 🙂

  8. What a tough workout! I feel inadequate with mine now haha. Your tropical bar looks delish!

  9. Yogurt and granola are great, or just some fruit!

M looks precious eating that cookie (?)

  10. I can’t eat before I work out. It makes my stomach hurt. We don’t do the easter bunny thing here either, but the kids (even at their age) love hunting for eggs.

  11. Dana says:

I take a bowl of oats with me in the car every AM on the way to campus! I know i’m crazy but I dont spill, i swear 😉

those little ciruits post cardio are the best! Just enough to get those muscles going. Great monday workout!

  13. Anna says:

I love making overnight oats in a mason jar so that I can take it and go in the morning.

  14. Sarah says:

I am loving toasted english muffins with almond butter and cinnamon + a to-go cup of unsweetened vanilla almond milk in the morning. However, that particular breakfast contains absolutely no produce. Oops.

  15. Love the pics of little M! So cute! She’s a doll. My favorite on-the-go breakfast is peanut butter or almond butter on a whole wheat wrap, wrapped up tightly. They’re so quick to make and delicious on the go! I usually have that along with a piece of fruit, like a banana or apple.

  16. I always loved Easter egg hunts. My mom was trying to convince me that we should do one this year. I tried to remind her that Im 26 years old. She didnt seem to care.

  17. your daughter is such a cutie! i used to do a mom’s club thing called MOPS. I miss it so. those types of groups are always a blessing.

my b-fast on the go usually consist of a cliff bar or some type of smoothie

  18. Michelle says:

Our church has potlucks all the time. It is so fun to go. I try to bring some kind of fruit or veggie because there are always TONS of desserts it seems at things like that.

  19. The quiche muffins I made last night are pefect for an on the go breakfast. And Makenzie’s face in that one picture (where she’s holding on to the rail) is precious! So cute!

  20. Peanut butter sandwiches are great for on-the-go breakfasts! I’ll spread a sandwich thin with PB, top w/ fruit and chia seeds, and throw it in a bag. Yum!

  21. yay I got an iced coffee today! I am so happy its warmer out it just makes me so smiley and more positive!

breakfast on the go?!?! I like homemade protein bars, fruit and greek yogurt!

  22. Kristina says:

What a fun time on that egg hunt!
I like smoothies, large and in charge!

  23. I have brought oatmeal in the car — and I keep it in a mug and eat it at stoplights — I guess it is a good thing I have tons of stoplights on my way to work 🙁 Or else I bring smoothies or PBJ on toast.

  24. Kacy says:

M looks so cute on the hunt. I loved those when I was little.
I really enjoy smoothies on the go. So portable.

  25. I take overnight oats with me all the time! I have a Saturday class so I make it the night before and eat it right before class in the car. So convenient ;D

  26. Coco says:

I love the egg hunt pictures! So cute. And M looks a bit pouty on the playground. Aww.

I keep a Kashi Crunchy granola bar or Cliff crunchy granola bar in my bag and car for emergencies. That alone or with a banana hold me over pretty well.

  27. Michelle says:

    Awww M is adorable!

If I’m really in a rush I’ll either eat at the cafe once I get to work (they have made to order veggie omelets) or I’ll stop by Starbucks and get their Reduce-Fat Egg White/Turkey Bacon breakfast sandwich (it is SO good – and relatively healthy).

  28. I think your breakfast-on-the-go looks perfect!

  29. Today did flyyyy by! I am big on portable snacks/meals. For breakfast i usually take a greek yogurt with some trail mix or some fruit with a mii packet of almond butter!

  31. Runeatrepeat says:

Love a workout that gets straight to the point! Great job 🙂

  32. Heather says:

I pack my breakfast every day for work and it’s almost always a yogurt bowl. It’s just too good not to!

  33. Usually breakfast for me consists of overnight oats, a smoothie, or a nourish bar on the way to the gym!

  34. I like oats on the go but it’s very very VERY hard to eat while driving. 🙂

  35. Karen says:

My to-go breakfast is a peanut butter and banana sandwich with a little honey drizzled inside. So tasty and pretty easy to eat on the go!

  36. I don’t even know what “the Easter bunny thing” is. Am I supposed to tell my kid that a magical bunny brings him his Easter basket? No way, he knows it’s from me!
