Heart Rate Monitor Giveaway

Posted: May 12, 2011 at 6:13 pm

I told you I had two great giveaways coming your way this week! First, a giveaway for an awesome workout top (winner will be announced with this winner in Saturday's post). Now, a giveaway for a heart rate monitor! Oh yes, my friends. Oh yes.

When Sportline offered me the chance to share my thoughts on the Duo Women’s heart rate monitor, I said HECK TO THE YEA “Sure!”. <--- Trying to act demure, ya know?

IMGP1143

I think heart rate monitors are great tools to use for fitness goals. They allow you to more accurately know the intensity level in which you are working. This helps, because you can pace yourself better…or know when to kick it up a notch. 😉

The Duo Women’s heart rate monitor is a great item. It is made for women so it has a slimmer wrist band to not feel so bulky. You can use the heart rate monitor with or without a chest strap. The chest strap allows for a continuous heart rate display, or you can use the sensors on the watch to get a reading. The readings will also let you know the % of your maximum heart rate, a fat burning zone, and if you hit your target heart rate. All in all, it’s a great little gadget.

And you have the chance to win one! You can enter by doing the following:

  • Comment on this post telling me one way you like to workout smarter.
  • Tweet the giveaway – I’m trying to win a free heart rate monitor from @TinaFFF and @SportlineRocks! - http://bit.ly/jN3dgD

The giveaway will end on Saturday morning at 10 am EST. Good luck!!!

  1. I like to mix up my workouts with cardio and strength training. And my strength training uses compound moves to really target big muscles with small ones…this is a great way to tone and get your heart rate up at the same time!

  2. Lauren says:

I LOVE to monitor my heartrate so that I know when I’m getting lazy and so I know when I pushing too hard! 🙂 I am a newby runner…and looking forward to my training for more 5K runs!

  3. Kate says:

I work out smarter by mixing up. 3 days of spinning, 2 days of running, as well as a mix of strength training, elliptical and the stair climber on other days!

  4. Beth says:

I love to track my heart rate! I find it really useful to see when I need a recovery day (those days where my heart rate skyrockets while doing exercises that usually feel comfortable). My heart rate monitor just broke and I haven’t replaced it yet so this would be awesome!

  5. LG says:

The way I “work out smarter” is to just do something every day. Sometimes I’ll go hard with weights and running, but often I fit in a 45 minute walk on my lunch hour or walk for an hour on the bus route towards my night class and then take the bus. I’ve never used a heart-rate monitor so this would be interesting!

  6. Angie says:

I will do a day of cardio, then strength training, yoga and try to mix up so my body is always moving and doing something different!

  7. The best way for me to workout smarter is to have a goal and a plan. It gives me motivation and structure and helps me reach my goals in a healthier fashion.

  8. Lisa says:

    TWEETED! 😀

  9. Cellabella says:

One way I’ve discovered to work out smarter is to incorporate strength training. Even though everyone has told me to do it, I always thought it was more work and “easier” to just run. But now that I’ve been doing more muscle-building exercises, I’ve noticed I’m stronger and don’t need to go on long runs to get a great workout!

    • Tina says:

I love strength training. It really does help balance out other workouts so well. Glad you found the love of it!

  10. Danielle says:

I work out smarter by mixing exercise with fun, like taking my daughter to the park or on a picnic after a long, brisk walk. I would love a heart rate monitor for when I exercise outside of the gym.

  11. Crystal toole says:

I know this might sound cheesy but I like to have fun with it! Zumba, dance video games and sports really keeps me interested!

  12. Kristina says:

I workout smarter by listening to my body and giving it the fuel it needs to run faster, jump higher, and lift heavier. I rest when I need to, and push myself farther than I thought I could have gone.

  13. julie says:

I try to work out smarter by incorporating HIIT into my week. It’s a big bang for your buck and I love the way I feel afterwards. It’s good to push to the limit, SOMETIMES!!!

  14. Jess says:

I just tweeted about this, very cool 🙂

And also – to answer your q, I like HR monitors not for the cal burn or anything else but for pacing. My HR monitor is very low-end so I don’t use it much these days, I’d love one that helps with pacing which I need for when I start training for another half too!

  15. Awesome AWESOME giveaway!!! If i dont have time to do a big workout i do HIIT!

  16. Celeste says:

I am working out smarter in two ways since having my daughter in April: 1)CONSISTENCY (something I haven’t always done so well) & 2)new MOTIVATION. My motivation in the past was always simply dis-satifaction with the way I looked physically. Today it’s more about overall health and appreciating the ability to exercise.

  17. Kelley says:

I like to work out smarter by staying focused. If my mind wanders, my workouts aren’t as good. 🙂

  18. ErikaMC says:

I’ve always mixed up my workouts but one thing I wasn’t always good about was hydrating while working out. Now that I am (6 months) pregnant I never workout without a bottle of water in arms reach. I hope to continue this practice after the baby is born.

  19. Karla says:

I have learned to workout smarter by giving myself days to rest! I learned that pushing myself when my body is in pain or not giving myself rest days leads to injuries. God even declared a day of rest so it must be good! 🙂

  20. Bonnie says:

I would like to work out smarter by adding tempo runs and HIIT workouts more!

  21. Vanessa says:

I mix my workouts up by 3 easy runs, 2 hard, and 1 long run. I also incorporate Zumba, Aerobics,Tae Bo, or just pushups and situps as much as I can. I teach 1st grade, so my mind is always “working out” haha. They keep me on my toes! I REALLY want to win!! 🙂

  22. judy says:

I work out smarter by mixing up my workouts just to keep my body guessing.

  23. LauraJayne says:

I SO need this! Honestly, I need to workout smarter by monitoring my heart rate, etc – I think it would help me to have a better idea when I am truly having an “easy” or “hard” day.

I also try to mix up my workouts – most importantly, I always precede and follow my long runs with easier workouts so I don’t get any injuries!

  24. Mac says:

I got a sneak peak at a heart rate monitor this past semester for my human performance lab. This was my primary “workout smarter” tool and I loved it, and sadly now I miss it because I had to turn it back in to the lab 🙁 That heart rate monitor got me through my half marathon and helped me tremendously with my pacing.

  25. I’m a Jazzercise instructor and a heart rate monitor is a great way I could tell my how hard I am working to motivate them to work harder! 🙂

  26. Amy says:

One way I workout smarter is by making sure I am hydrated while spinning. I feel like i sweat soo much during spin and need the water to keep me spinning

  27. Nicole says:

I would love to be able to monitor my workouts so I know when to push myself harder!!

  28. Carolyn says:

I work out smarter by listening to what my body wants to do that day 🙂

  29. Krystal says:

Over the years I’ve learned that just going through the motions isn’t going to cut it. Going to the gym and putting in my time doesn’t mean Jack. It’s the workouts where I do the exercises I dread, when I push out one more rep or set when I want to quit, that do me the most good, both physically and mentally. There’s a reason it’s called WORKING out! It’s not supposed to be easy! (But it’s totally fine for it to be fun!)

  30. Melie says:

I think I am lacking in the “smart workout” department. But I go with the feeling that I gave my all and a good sweat 🙂

  31. Heather says:

i would like to work out smarter by adding some new strength training moves to the very few that i do now – i am always afraid of trying new ones because i think i will do them wrong!!

  32. Anna says:

I enjoy doing workouts that combine cardio, strength and toning. I don’t do it very often any more but it always makes me feel like I have acomplished a good workout.

  33. RunEatRepeat says:

I’m trying to add variety to my workouts to workout smarter 🙂

  34. ashley says:

I would like to recognize when my body needs a break. I always tend to push it too far.

  35. Tiff says:

What a fun giveaway! I’ve been wanting one for a while, mainly to judge my intensity in spin class and on the elliptical.

  36. Celeste says:

    tweeted:)

  37. Marilee LaFond says:

I like to workout smarter by not counting dog walking duty as part of my 60 minutes of cardio a day goal…so if we’re walking, running, biking, hiking but the dog’s with me, that time is for “the dog”…it’s just bonus exercise for me. I still make myself go to spin, boot camp, whatever…and this “mentality” helps me get lots of extra exercise in without the mind-set that I’m working out…I’m just playing with the dog!

  38. Brittany says:

I workout about 5 days a week doing cycling and pilates. I recently found out I’m pregnant and my doctor wants me to keep my heart rate below 160. A heart rate would be a great “smart” tool to help my workouts!

It’s kind of funny. I become a certified personal trainer and the first workouts I turn to this week come from someone else. The book came in for me at the library last week and, after flipping through it, I couldn’t wait to give the circuits a go. Making The Cut includes a lot of […]
