It’s Really Almost Here! – Fitbloggin’

Posted: May 17, 2011 at 9:19 am

Where has this year gone? I remember registering for the Fitbloggin’ conference back before Braedon even came into this world. Now, suddenly the conference knocks on my doorstep, awaiting me in only two short days!

Excitement prevails, but I cannot lie that I have a bit of nervousness in approaching this conference as well. And over the silliest things! Sometimes I wonder about myself.

What To Wear

what to wear source

I feel like such a teenage girl with this one. The conference will include everything from fun runs and fitness activities to cocktail parties and dinners out on the town. I see no shame in wanting to look good with my other awesome friends and new pals I meet. Now just to figure out what to wear for the different things?? Cute dress? Jeans and nice top? At least I have my workout wear sorted out after falling in love with my two new running tees.

Networking

I view myself as a people person. I would not classify myself as a shy one. I have no problem saying hello and chatting away. However, I do find myself a little nervous about how to play the whole “networking” thing. Part of this conference is to make connections. When I had my blog redesign, it included business cards. I want to be sure to pass them out at the conference so people can remember the smiley creep come say hello later, but don’t like the thought of seeming pushy and all “you need to read my blog”. Because that just ain’t my style.

Not Having Enough Time With All The Fabulous Folks

So many wonderful people will be in attendance and I would love to spend every moment with each of my blog friends. I know that won’t be possible since 2.5 days will go so fast, but I hope I get enough time to get my fix of all of you fantabulous pals. I just plan to go without a plan and make the most of every minute I get to have with each of you!

Workouts

There are THREE different activities I want to do on Friday. I want to do the fun run 5K. I simply have to do Cathe Friedrich’s fitness challenge. I mean, the woman started my love of working out after all. And a trampoline class just sounds awesome. Though my still weak post-baby bladder might not love that idea. TMI? Oops. Yea. Now you really don’t want me to “network” with you.

Fitting In Pump Time

I don’t want to miss any of the fun while at this conference! Although I know I will have to hole myself away a few times a day to spend time with my pal, Mr. Pump!

Smelling Like Maple Syrup

source

Okay. Let me explain. I don’t want to jeopardize my milk supply while away. In an attempt to prevent any issues, I plan to take a herbal supplement called Fenugreek to help me out. It makes you smell like maple syrup. I guess there could be worse things? Please don’t judge my Mrs. Butterworth eau de parfum.

The Big One

Peter. Alone. With the kids. Three days. Hopefully they will both be a lot better before I have to leave! Yes, both. M is sick now too. I know they will survive without me. I hope. 😉

  • What is something you would feel nervous about when heading away to a conference or event with so many people?

  1. I can’t believe it’s almost here!! I’m in the same boat as you…I don’t know WHAT to wear?!? I’m sure I’ll over stuff my suitcase, as usual…

I can not WAIT to meet you!!! 😀

  2. Emily says:

I can totally relate to your nervousness! I actually just posted a blog quite similar to this last night! I will also have to holing away at different points in the day to pump. Oh, the things we do for our children! The last point of yours is my #2 worry on my list…my hubby, at home, with all the kids. But I know that the men will manage! They may not do it our way, but it will help solidify the bonds between daddy and children! I hope your little kiddos feel better soon! I do hope that I get to meet you at Fitbloggin. I have been following your blog for awhile now and find you so inspiring to where I am at in my life.

    • Tina says:

We will certainly have to meet! I hope to get the chance to meet every single person there. I wish I could hang out 24/7 with every single person too since I know we all have so much in common.

  3. Oatmeal, like fenugreek, works wonders also!

Having to go to a conference or big event can make me nervous at times. Being a relatively shy person, they force me to get out of my element and be more social. I am terrible at small talk!

So while the initial response is mild apprehension, it works out well in the end because I end up meeting great people!

  4. jobo says:

Have so much fun! Tell Cathe I say hi 😉 You will love her, she is so so nice!!! I know what you mean about networking…it’s never the easiest thing, even when they’re all friends./friendly. You’ll have a blast!

  5. Jess says:

I am SO sad I won’t see you at Fitbloggin…you were on my list of “must meet and hang with” bloggy friends. 🙁 You will have an amazing time I am sure of it…and please say hi to Cathe for me! I’m sure she’ll work ya real good!!

  6. Angela says:

Oooh I’m so excited for you!! I really want to attend a blogger conference this year but am not sure it’s in my budget right now, given the other financial commitments I have. I am going to the fitness conference that I attend every year though (sadly on the same weekend as the HLS – again!!) and one thing I always find is that I get so tired by day 3, but there’s still so much GREAT information to take in!! Hopefully this year I’ve got my sessions planned in a smarter way so that I can maximize the experience. I hope you have a fantastic time!! (And that’s ok about the syrup – I’m sure there are worse things you could smell like!)

  7. Wow-you’re going to have such a good time, eau de syrup and all!! Enjoy!

  8. Well I hope M and B are both better before you leave — for Peter’s sake and so that you can go and not stress about your 2 sick kids!

I’m going to a blog conference in June and I have all of the same fears as you: what to wear, networking, doing all that I want to do, etc. I’m sure you’ll have a wonderful time!

  9. Mellissa says:

I am a social and shy person, I have no issues talking in front of a huge crowd but I can be very shy when in smaller groups.

  10. Hmm, I kinda love the smell of maple syrup. Perhaps I should take funegreek just to smell like it 😉

I get worried that people wont’ like me

  11. have a wonderful time!!! can’t wait to hear about it!

I’ve considered starting funegreek since i’m about to hit 3 months and I hear that’s when supply starts to drop — now that I know the happy side effect, I’m all over it! The Mister does love pancakes 😉

    • Tina says:

Haha! Its funny bec people will actually ask you “Oh did you have pancakes for breakfast?” It’s fun explaining that! LOL

And come to think of it – why do people care what you had for bfast?! Haha!

  12. Tina, I really love this post! You touch upon many things that I would worry about/consider as well before heading to a conference. I’m not able to go to Fitbloggin but I am hoping to make it to the Healthy Living Summit in August and I am most nervous about trying to chat with so many people in such a short period of time!

I know it sounds weird but even when I’m having a great time at social events, since my trouble with anxiety in January, social event sometimes make me nauseous and light headed! Weird I know!

I can’t wait to hear all about the conference I’m so sorry to hear that your little ones are sick. I am sure Peter will do an awesome job while you’re away.

  13. Lauren says:

Have fun! It sounds like a really fun conference! I’d be nervous about not having enough time to meet people or do all the activities.

  14. I’m SO excited. I can’t believe I get to meet you in 2 days! And I’m pretty sure everyone is nervous about all of those same things…well most of them anyways. 😉

    • Tina says:

I’m so excited too! You, Katie, and Amanda will have to decide who loves pancakes the most to share a bed with me. LOL

  15. I am with you on all of this since BlogHer Food is this weekend! YIKES! I love talking with people about food and dietary restrictions, but I question my networking abilities! Not only that, I’m speaking…I am so nervous about that part. I have no idea what to wear since it ranges from suits to shorts (they even said yoga pants…um, no thanks). I’m thinking slacks and cute tops. I wish I could go to FitBloggin’ that would be so much fun! Deep breathes are my calming technique this week.

    • Tina says:

You are going to do SO great! And I think jeans and a nice top would be a great middle of the road look. 🙂

  16. I’m looking forward to getting a chance to meet you this weekend!!! But I feel the same way as you – what to wear?!?! Will we have time to shower and change post run/workout prior to the afternoon sessions?? Thats my biggest concern! haha

  17. whoa! Good luck to your hubby! Sounds likeyou will have a fantastic time! Don’t be nervous! I’m sure a lot of other bloggers have the same apprehensions as you! (maybe not the maple syrup think haha)

  18. You are so cute! You’re going to rock the conference and have a blast! Love that you get to take the cathe class and the trampoline class does sound so fun (unless the ‘tmi’ issue ensures. LOL). I hope you have SO MUCH FUN and I can’t wait for your recap!

  19. I agree with everything you said here Tina! I am really excited for the conference but a little nervous/overwhelmed with all the people I want to make sure to get time with! Also, what to wear!?!? I think I’m going to go with yoga pants, tshirt, and sneakers during the day on Friday and Saturday, and then bring a dress to change into for the cocktail party.

    So soon!

  20. Mac says:

I’m so jealous of everyone going to the conference! Have a blast! Once you get there everything will be fine and the nerves will wash away 🙂

  21. You are going to have SO much fun!

I’m going to the Food & Wine Festival all by myself… yipes! BUT I keep reminding myself that I always get nervous leading up to networking events like this. Typically once I get there the energy is so high that nerves are a non-issue.

  22. Definitely my social awkwardness getting in the way of fun…oops I just my inner geek out! Seriously though, with so many great bloggers you’re bound to have a blast!

  23. Have fun! I always find networking to be awkward. I hate doing it for conference events at work. Hopefully when it’s for fun, it’s a little easier. Enjoy!

  24. Priyanka says:

I am a little shy in person initially so I get really intimidated by these huge conferences. Although I really want to attend one! It would be so much fun meeting the faces behind the webpage!

I am so sorry to hear that M is sick too. I hope both B and M feel better soon.

  25. The networking would get me too. I’m not all that assertive, so I guess it’s a good thing I’m not in sales!

  26. I know how you feel, I was raised living with my mom and grandma, then I married a guy who seems to be related to half the state (eek) then I joined his familys church and every year there is a convention (500 people who remember me but I always forget who they are) I’m always feeling out of my comfort zone the first day or so. Fitbloggin sounds like fun, I wish I’d known about it sooner but have only been blogging myself for a month. I hope you have a great time and that your family feels better as well.

  27. Lauren says:

I so wish I could go to this! Sounds like SUCH A BLAST!! 🙂

  28. ::sigh:: Part of me wishes you weren’t going away this weekend so I could meet you! I’ll just be sad.. in Chicago.. by myself while the Husband is in Atlanta. 😉

    • Tina says:

Well, do know that Chicago is one of the #1 places I want to visit. Our paths WILL cross someday, somehow.

Hey, I know! Leave the husband at home for Disney and lets race it together and make a girl trip of it. 😉

  29. LauraJayne says:

I’m so excited to hear about this conference! I’d wanted to go, but was just too late!

I am so NOT shy, but I always worry about meeting new people – what to wear, what to say, and if they’ll like me!

I need business cards for BlogHer – do you have someone your recommend? Not urgent, but I’ll like to get some pretty quickly!

  30. Brittany says:

so so so excited!!!!! Can NOT wait to meet you and everyone else! I’m nervous about the networking as well. And the clothing issue, don’t even get me started!!!!! I don’t know what to packkkk!!!! AHHHHHH!!!! freaking out like a teeanger, too! xoxox

  31. I wish I could go to this! I’m sure you’ll have a blast, and you sound well prepared!

  32. Kara says:

I’m pretty sure my bladder wouldn’t be able to hold up to a trampoline class, lol.

I’d be nervous to leave the baby for 3 days, but I know my husband could handle it (since she doesn’t suffer from mismatched outfits).

  33. Ah! I am so jealous! I wanted to go to Fitbloggin so bad! But I had to pick my conference for the year and I’m going with Healthy Living Summit. I’ve never been to Philly and that won me over (I’ve gone to Baltimore many times due to family living there!) Fitbloggin next year though! 😀

  34. Have so much fun at FitBloggin’ 🙂 you’re going to have a blast!

  35. How fun, you’re going to love it!! 😀

  36. Lisa says:

I’ve never heard of that thing about maple syrup. At least it’s a nice aroma, right? 🙂

  37. Allie says:

    How exciting about fit bloggin!!!

nd a trampoline class just sounds awesome. Though my still weak post-baby bladder might not love that idea. TMI? Oops. Yea. Now you really don’t want me to “network” with you.—-> that made me laugh SO hard! You are too funny! I would still network with you.. especially if you smelled like syrup!

  38. Helen says:

Have a blast girl! I too have a hard time deciding on wardrobe for larger functions.

I am sure the husband will do great with you gone, but I will say a prayer that health will be restored to your little ones 🙂

  39. Lee says:

I don’t know if I come across as shy but I really am, especially in situations when I don’t know anyone. So that would worry me the most.

  40. Janelle says:

I kind of liked smelling like maple syrup during my spin with fenugreek. 🙂

  41. I’m nervous too but it’s because I’m an introvert and the thought of being surrounded by such a large group of successful women really intimidates me. I’m hoping to “fake it until I make it”. LOL
