Bits And Pieces

Posted: June 29, 2011 at 4:00 pm

Okay, my title just made me crave candy and I have no idea why. Maybe it makes me think of Reese’s Pieces? I still have a hard time figuring out the way my mind works. Either way, here are some Reese’s pieces of my day today. ‘Twas a good one.

5 Mile Tempo Run With The Cows

007

Mooooo!!! Now that I got that out of my system…I hit up a local running trail to hang out with the cows and knock out this week’s tempo run. The run called for a one mile warm-up, three miles at an 8:33 tempo, and then a one mile cool down. My tempo splits ended up being 8:37, 8:38, and 8:28 min/mile. I came somewhat close but definitely learned that I have a problem figuring out my pace and keeping it steady. I felt all over the place! Those tempo runs are tough trying to get in tune with the body.

Best Way To Store Headphones

IMGP9907

I had to buy new headphones after mine crapped out on me this past weekend. You know I went the “el cheapo” route and nabbed a pair for under $10. That, of course, means they don’t have a handy way to store them or other fancy features. Which, therefore, means I resort to my office clip method of storing headphones to keep the tangles away. Nothing works better. Don’t you love Peter’s my innovativeness?

Breaking In Our Pool

IMGP9958IMGP9980

We have a pool in our backyard, but the dang trees keep it shaded most of the day so it takes for-ev-ah to get warm enough to take a dip without risking hypothermia. Today was the day to finally brave the chill factor and only risk the “cutting glass” effect, if you know what I mean. I edged my way in to about chest level and was done. Peter, of course, jumps right in telling me it’s the only way to do it. Mehhh….I like my method.

Harry Potter Obsession

harrypotter

Dork alert: Peter & I share a bit of enthusiasm over Harry Potter. Not crazy crazy, but we like it well enough. Well enough to decide to watch the first seven movies through again before hopefully fitting a visit to the theater into the budget for next month’s release of the last film. We start #2 tonight!

I Got My Jeans Buttoned

My “goal jeans”! Out of curiosity I took a stab at them and got them on and buttoned. They still fit way too tight to actually wear comfortably, but I take getting them oa as a huge victory. Consistency with healthy habits and not doing anything crazy besides watching tons of Harry Potter and running with cows pays off!

I Love ALL of YOU! That doesn’t need further explanation. I just wanted to tell you that. <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

  • Harry Potter – Are you a fan?
  • Getting into a cold pool – Slow and steady or Dive right in?

  1. So nice to be loved 🙂

  2. Amy says:

Love Harry Potter and your pool is like your life…you gotta dive right in! 🙂

  3. Congrats on the jeans! That’s awesome! I am having a similar issue with the lake lately. It has rained so much that the water is too cold for me. I went in the day before yesterday and YIKES, there was a definite “cutting glass” effect. I had to get out! I am slow and steady so I like it warm!

  4. Ehm, yep. Mine is a full-blown Harry Potter obsession. Midnight showing here I cooooome! 😀 😀 😀

  5. Koko says:

you need to get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Nite-Ize-Curvyman-Supervisor-Black/dp/B002LED4II

They are the best and super cheap for your headphones! xo

  6. I’m a swim teacher and I always ease myself in but I make my kids just get in right away. They’re a little too dramatic about easing in and it takes them forever. I tell them it’s like pulling off a band aid. I’m such a hypocrite, though! I hate just getting right in.

  7. Cate says:

I proudly admit to being a HP fan! A rewatching of all the movies sounds good to me!
I can’t wait for the final movie. It is a little bittersweet though.

  8. Karolina says:

In regards to the pool- I tend to slowly creep in instead of just jumping in quickly.
a definite YES to being a big HP fan too. I just watched the 6th and 7 part 1 movies in the last week, and am reading the 7th book right now. SO excited for the movie!

  9. AHHHHH! Love the cows – they’re so peaceful, eh? And love the button – GOTTA LOVE INCHES – I’m WAY more into inches than pounds. Congrats! Tick tock til the final movie 😀

  10. Love how you store your headphones. 🙂 I might have to copy you. 🙂 And I’m jealous that you get to run by cows. I have to run pushing a heavy stroller in the summer heat. ha! Congrats on the jeans!!! ( I just returned a pair that had been sitting in my closet for 1 1/2 years.) 🙂

  11. I have to dive right in…the slow and steady is too painful! haha!

I’ve never gotten into Harry Potter. Although now I’m ready the Hunger Games series and when those movies are made I sense myself becoming one of those crazy fans…can’t wait! 🙂

  12. 1. That is awesome that you have a pool! I would be in there every day if I had one.

    2. Congrats on the jeans! Persistence pays off!

    3. I love the headphone clip idea…I usually wrap a hair binder around mine, but your idea seems faster!

  13. Kelly says:

Man…even in the shade here is close to 100 degrees! This Texas summer is a beast! That is fun that you have a pool…I would love to have one in my backyard but not matter how much I beg, plead and whine to Keith it is not happening! haha!!

  14. Mandy says:

Yahooooo on the jeans!!!! I can’t wait for that feeling again LOL 😉

I’m a sneak in person in the pool too, just like you.. and of course Jerry is just like Peter. but does that surprise you?? 😉

  15. […] HO-LY-COW! […]

  16. Whitney says:

I ease in the pool too! My hubs jumps right in! I say if he wants to be crazy, then he can go right ahead. lol I also had a great run yesterday with my C25K. Although my poor legs are hurting so bad, maybe not enough streching. 🙁 As for Harry Potter, we have never watched them. But Twilight on the other hand is GREAT! Not to mention the cute actors!!! haha!

    • Tina says:

Love Twilight too! And I’m a firm believer in stretching helping with soreness. I’ve been slacking since vacation on regular stretching and I can SO feel it!

  17. Stephanie* says:

Dont feel bad- I introduced my fiance to Harry Potter recently, and he managed to go out to CD warehouse- purchase the box set 1-6 which we have managed to watch TWICE in a week in a half PLUS on sunday he made me go with him to target to buy the deathy hollows pt 1 and I finally had to hide all the DVDs to get a break. 🙂

  18. Great idea on the ear bud cords. Mine are always a tangled mess. I ease into the pool. Thankfully ours warms up super quick – but it also can cool down just as quickly with a few cool nights.

  19. I love Harry Potter!!! I’d come snuggle up with yall on the couch and watch all the movies again, too! )

  20. Wow, that’s a lot of jeans!
    Congrats on fitting into them

  21. Megan says:

So, so, SO stoked for Harry Potter!!! I CANNOT wait. But then I think that this is the last one and there won’t be anything like this again. I’m quite excited though! And congrats on the jeans, that’s a HUGE accomplishment!

  22. I love posts like these! Basically what my five things friday are 🙂 Guess what bit john and I are excited for this weekend? Transformers!!!

  23. Geraldine says:

Cows are so serene aren’t they? Do you think that cow was wondering who was the crazy running lady taking her pic :-)?

As for getting into a cold pool – I go slow and steady until I’m waist high and then just duck right under! Awwwh I’m so jealous I wish I had a pool in my back garden! Enjoy it Tina! That picture is so cute 🙂

  24. ohhhh beautiful water!!! ahhhhh it looks so pristine I wanna drink it. Oyyy. So cute, you and M look like twinzies in the photo. And thank you so much for the response comment about weight lifting! It was really encouraging and so good to have some feedback from you Tina~So while I do my regular HIIT bodyweight plyo exercises, I’ll continue with heavy weights AND low weight+high reps. 😀

  25. I just started Harry Potter 7 again, and can’t wait for the second movie to come out! Your little girl is so cute. She reminded me of Michelle on Full House in that pool picture.

  26. Woot woot! Goal jeans!? That’s fantastic…wish me luck…I still need to get there. Haha.

I’m not a huge Harry Potter fan, but I think that’s because I’ve never read the books. Seen a couple of the movies, and they’re cute. 🙂

I’m a slow and steady girl when it comes to the pool. Herrick? Dives right in! Must be a guy thing. 😉

  27. Don’t use a good unwashed set of two stockings. Sweating soaked up by the stockings will establish bacteria that induce potent scent on your own ft as well as the athletic shoes. When you have by now used that will set of two stockings, and then use it within the laundry washing basket and get any fresh washed pair.
