The Recap
Morning! How is everyone doing today? I hope that you all had a wonderful day yesterday, no matter what that entailed. We have had quite our fair share of fun over the last two days. The traditions that fill Christmas Eve and Christmas Day entail some of my favorite activities of the year. Since I expect a lot of these style posts will appear around the blogs, I will try to keep mine as to the point as possible. And if you just skim pictures, I don't blame you. 😉
Christmas Eve
We spent a good part of the morning running a few last minute errands, like stopping by the bank and visiting the store.
Then, we came home to straighten up a bit and make my special fudge. Of course I had to make my fudge for my family. Although, it sadly didn’t come out perfect this time. Still delicious, though!
I took a short nap in the afternoon, before my family arrived. Then, we all headed to church for the children’s service. It will never compare to the traditional candlelight services I love, but it’s something special to watch Makenzie’s excitement and see her friends.
Once church finished, we headed home for dinner – my Crockpot White Chicken & Bean Chili. A bowl full of comfort.
The remainder of the night we nibbled fudge, watched a movie, talked, had Makenzie open up her special Christmas PJs gift, and went outside to look at the “special star” and sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.
Christmas Day
Christmas Day is one mad rush from family to family. We begin the morning at our house with my immediate family. This year, Makenzie came down super excited to listen to Christmas music and see her presents from Santa.
Yet somehow, she missed the kitchen set and tricycle right in front of her face. Once she realized they were hers to enjoy, she was quite thrilled.
And we were thrilled to only have to spend $30 total on those two gifts. Thank you consignment sales (kitchen) and people leaving things behind brand new and in the box for months at the apartments my parents manage (the tricycle).
Present opening among the family ensued.
Then, breakfast, showering straightening up, and heading out the door to my G-Pa’s house followed. We only get to visit with my dad’s whole side of the family twice a year, so it was great seeing everyone.
We had a late lunch / early dinner there. I love this meal. It’s almost like Thanksgiving all over again.
I devoured green bean casserole, cornbread, collard greens, tomato, 2 deviled eggs, half a twice baked potato, and some ham. I wish I had leftovers.
We end the night with Peter’s family. It’s kind of crazy with all of the kids running around, but the palpable joy in the air makes it all that much more fun.
Plus, the endless desserts count for something, right? I had dessert for dinner. When you eat lunch at 3, you save your dinner room for dessert. It works.
Normally, the excitement ends here and we head home to unload the car and hop in bed. Last night, though. We ended with a White Christmas. Georgia got snow!!!!!
And that, my friends, made for one wonderful Christmas celebration.
